Fandom harry potter: trials and tribulations (loup blanc & qrow)

Sometimes it felt like she was acting more as a parent to children than as a peer to fellow students around her age. The school of Witchcraft and Wizardry was rather lenient with certain things, all within reason, but the restrictions were put in place for a reason. Curfews, restrictions on certain spots within the castle, restrictions on when and where spells could be studied, what spells were allowed to be studied. It was common for students to break the rules every once in a while, and most of the time it was harmless. Sneaking around to hang out with friends, trying to get a midnight snack or simply trying to get some air out of the enclosure of their dormitories. Though, where there was harmless fun, there were also times where it crossed far beyond that boundary.

The Forbidden Forest. The name was quite self-explanatory. No good would come out of anyone venturing into the forest, especially not on their own and at night. There were creatures lurking into the shadows that would jump at the chance to hunt down prey if someone crossed into their territory. It was dangerous even for students that knew how to handle themselves, and even worse for those that were just learning how to hold and properly handle their wands. Of course, there had been cases of students sneaking into the forest, but normally they were caught before they could get too far, or before anything could happen. No house was excused from that; Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, even Hufflepuff. At one point or another, students from each house had been discovered to do something as stupid as venturing alone.

Really, Charli wasn't putting herself into such a dangerous situation just because it was a student from a different house than herself, where turning the student in would dock points from them, and in turn possibly be awarded to her own house. No, it wasn't for something as petty as that. No matter what, she wanted to look out for others, even if it meant risking her own safety. But this Slytherin sure had to pick such a wonderful night, a wonderful time to decide to sneak out, didn't they? More than likely a first or second year that was doing it for the thrill without thinking about the consequences their actions might bring. Not only upon themselves, but others that could just as easily become involved if something were to happen out there. Something she would find out herself soon enough, because instead of going to one of the headmasters and telling them about the sighting of a Slytherin sneaking out, she was determined to go find them herself.

First, make sure they returned to Hogwarts safely, then worry about informing someone about it. It wasn't like she had actively been looking for someone to bust for breaking the rules, but she had simply been making her rounds through the halls to make sure no one was out and about when they were meant to be in their rooms. In the dead of the night - or morning perhaps, as it was more than likely well after midnight - where almost no one would be up and around to catch wind of their rash decision. Was going in after them herself the best point of action? Certainly not, but she was in the mindset that if something did go wrong, she'd rather be there to protect the student and lead them to safety, dealing with the consequences of the aftermath as it came. It was a risk she was willing to take, because she wouldn't be able to live with herself by wasting any time if there was something she knew she could have done in the first place.

It was just how Charli had been her whole life. While not older than some of her peers at the school, she certainly acted like an older sibling to most everyone. She wasn't overbearing, but she was the type to make sure any situation was handled appropriately, and if she couldn't do it herself she would reach out to someone that could. This, on one hand, felt like something she was more than capable of handling herself. All it was was tracking down the kid and bringing them back. Easy, right? She wasn't oblivious to the danger posed upon herself, but maybe she hadn't fully thought it through before she had already stepped over the threshold of the line where they weren't permitted to cross. Bloody hell was it freezing. Winters at Hogwarts could be rough because of the frigid temperature that often brought about flurries of snow, or full storms. And, dressed in nothing but her uniform and her house robes, with a mere scarf wrapped around her neck, it wasn't enough to protect her from the rigid air.

This student certainly wasn't going to get any pretty words out of Charli, nor any sympathy for their rather idiotic actions. Why were students often so eager to break the rules laid out for them? Did it give them a rush of excitement? Did they believe it would give them a good reputation when they whispered to others of what they had done? Word got around the school rather quickly, and just as fast as they could be the talk around the halls, they would be punished and reprimanded for it. It was moments like this that she was so, so glad that she didn't have siblings that were eager to go against her wishes, and endanger themselves. Instead, she had a little brother that had been well behaved and actually thought his actions through. Already feeling like a care taker for half of her peers was bad enough, but having a sibling that she would constantly have to stick her neck out for would have been even worse. Luckily, she didn't have to add that to the list. Instead, she just had to worry about hot-headed and cocky students. Slytherins, mostly, if she was being one hundred percent honest with herself.
