Fantasy Gyan - Character Sheets

BLUR

Two Thousand Club

i77wnl.jpg

Welcome to the character application section of the Gyan fantasy world role-play. Before I give you the character sheet, I would like to go over some basic information. As you have seen in the interest check, there are four playable groups in Gyan. Two of these groups are large tribes, one is a kingdom, and the final one is split in between a tribe of mostly bandits and small theocracy. These groups are home to all the manipulators of Gyan, with no exception.

Each one of these groups have their own cultures and characteristics that make them who they are and differentiate them from the others. However, there are some in the world of Gyan that have found themselves in a different faction then the one they were born in, and your characters may have that exception as well. With that being said, here's some extra information about all the factions, the houses, and the manipulators of Gyan.

As mentioned in the Interest Check, the Asman tribe live around, and even on, the Zorg mountain range. They deal with a harsh, cold climate, with very few warm days in the year. As are all of the groups of Gyan, they are nature lovers. Almost all Asman have either gray or white hair, and so they are one of the few peoples that are easily distinguishable from appearance alone. The Asman are typically very friendly and loyal to each other, but are wary of outsiders. They have a longstanding rivalry with the Mardom Kingdom. The Asman are also among the most intelligent of Gyan's people, and most of those who are not manipulators instead fancy themselves researchers of various sciences. As stated in the Interest Check, the Asman Tribe population is around 800 people, with around 300 being manipulators. The two main houses, which are also the executive powers of the tribe, are House Aub and House Hava. House Aub specializes in the manipulation of water, while House Hava specializes in the manipulation of air. While House Hava is a pretty large house, and holds a lot of prestige in the world of manipulators, House Aub is small and pretty insignificant in the world of manipulators. The members of House Aub are not one to have many children, but are deeply attached to family they do have. House Hava, on the other hand, is known to produce competent warriors, and the current generation of manipulators are among the best in Asman Tribe. The greatest manipulators of the Asman tribe are able to surpass their own house's element and learn manipulation of ice.

The Urwar tribe are like the Asman in that their choice of environment is not one most people would think to be safe. The majority of Urwars, including the leaders of the tribal council, take residence in a hill fort in the middle of the Lyle Forest. Others prefer to be in the thick of action, taking residence within the forest itself, camping out in houses constructed on the thick branches of the tall trees in the Lyle. The Urwar are a brave people, you would have to be to be so close to a forest where various dangerous beast roam free. They are a breeding ground for hunters. They are also friendly, festive, and relish their close proximity to nature and the wild. Every month, on a given day of the month, the population of the Urwar tribe, which totals nearly 600 people, gather around the bottom the hill fort and have a community picnic, where their most recently fermented stores of all alcoholic beverages are passed around and everybody gets merry together. The Urwar are also famous in that instead of having taxes to pay, the people of Urwar tribe are given money by the tribal council. Urwar individuals mostly supply their own food, shelter, drink, weapons, and clothes, and so anything they have extra is exported to other groups for profit if no one else is in need. In Urwar, there are only a handful of houses, and all heads of these houses comprise the tribal council. The two biggest and most powerful houses are the Gole and Zamin. House Gole specializes in plant manipulation while House Zamin specializes in earth manipulation. Many people in House Gole are distinguishable by markings on their face and body. Both houses are pretty renowned for their abilities. Urwars are known to be fantastic doctors due to an intensive knowledge of herbs. A master manipulator in Urwar is able to learn gravity manipulation.

A few centuries prior to the beginning of this role-play, the Xwarrag were a single tribe that lived by Mount Zend, an active volcano. As the tribe began to become more and more devout in its faith and worship of its guardian spirit, a major house decided to leave into the desert for a more free lifestyle. The remaining Xwar house began to influence the groups of people around the Zend Peninsula (see map). They also established a place of worship, constructing a huge temple where the heads of the house would stay and govern over the land. Thus, a theocracy was formed, with the Xwar house, House Atash, claiming the land surrounding Mount Zend and all the Zend Peninsula to the south as property of Asha, their guardian spirit. Over the years, House Atash has established a full blown capital where the temple was built, and now may boast of having the largest, and most beautifully constructed city in all the land, beating out even the Mardom Kingdom. Meanwhile, the Xwarrag that left to the desert, House Barq, began to establish themselves as a force of terror in the Xwar desert. Contrary to their once guardian spirit, a force of truth and righteousness, the young warriors of the Barq began to loot and steal from the people living around the area. Soon, they became notorious as a group of bandits. They are a prolific people, and thus are one of the most populous houses in Gyan. Their entire group consists of members of their house. The people of House Barq are known to be wild and ruthless, long having given up their ability to show compassion in exchange for survival in the harsh desert climate. The Xwar, as a whole, are known as expert builders and architects. House Atash are manipulators of fire, while House Barq manipulates lightning. An advanced Xwar manipulator is able to utilize the element of light.

2n9hm1.png

The Mardom Kingdom is the largest faction in all of Gyan. They hold sovereignty over around 3,000,000 people. They are the strongest militant force in Gyan, as they employ 20,000 well-trained knights. Their headquarters is located in Val Valley, and is a castle named after the guardian spirit Wa. Originally, many centuries ago, Mardom was a single tribe led by House de Auhan, manipulators of metal. Mardom had always been home to many different houses, and most were able to create weapons and armor out of thin air. Eventually, through sneaky politics, one was able to gain powerful allies and rise as a top house, battling House de Auhan for control of the tribe. They managed to take over, and soon continued to fall prey to their ambitions. They continued to seek more power, and so they adopted a feudal system, promising to protect the vast populous of the Zagost Plains in exchange for gold. They built a powerful kingdom and claimed sovereignty over a vast domain. The house was House DiMazdi. Throughout the centuries, this House continued to pursue more land, more gold, and more warriors, wanting to claim all of Gyan for themselves and increase their glory. However, they would face a major defeat when they attempted to expand their dominance into the Zorg mountain range. A combination of terrain, weather, and the powerful Asman tribe handed them a humbling defeat. They would have many campaigns sending them into Asman territory, but they would never come out victorious. Eventually, they decided it wasn't worth the effort. Over the years, the ambition of House DiMazdi has been dampened. The current king, in particular, has shown little interest throughout his reign in expanding Mardom sovereignty. The Mardom people are not known for anything in particular, as there are so many diverse people in the kingdom that one could find a skilled professional in any area. Warriors of Mardom are very skilled in swordsmanship, and they are proficient to masterful with many other weapons as well. They are dominant in the annual fighting festival, both in the Now Tournament and the Fight League. The very best Mardom manipulators are able to learn energy manipulation

Now that you know about the main factions of Gyan, you can choose who to play. For now, I'm going to cap each faction at one player per house. If you REALLY want to play a certain house and its filled, message me. If we go over eight players, I will open the houses up.

Note that you may play a character that was born to one house, but was adopted by another. However, this is not recommended, since by doing this you forfeit your rights to the advanced manipulation of either house. In turn, you may learn the primary manipulation of both.

Also, one last thing, if you choose to play a Mardom character that's not in house de Auhan, you're free to create your own house name, and may add a brief history of the house as well.

Now, onto the CS!

QUICK NOTE: IMPORTANT

The Annual Fighting Festival that is briefly mentioned in the Interest Check is a huge event in the lifetime of a manipulator. All young aspiring manipulators apply, and are eligible in their 15th, 16th, and 17th years (age-wise). The most confident manipulators obviously would apply as early as possible, while others would take their time. With this tournament comes lots of prestige, as landing within the elite eight makes sure your name is written in the annals of history.

So if you are writing about another manipulator within your character's biography, make sure not to simply gloss over this event, as it is one of the most important events in a young manipulators life!

In-Depth

Personality: Selorm is a passionate girl. She holds her dear ones close to her heart, devoting herself to people on levels they could most likely never match. She views the world in a unique light, appreciating the beauty of even the simplest of things. She doesn't care much for ignorant people, or people that lack the ability to see past themselves and recognize the value of the world around them. Everything has value in her eyes, from the blades of grass that sway in the afternoon breeze to the birds that soar through the midday sky. It is a great offense to her when reckless or egostistical people needlessly destroy the world around them.

Selorm has little trust for those she doesn't know, but if they pass the period of coldness Selorm will most definitely show, an affable, depenable young lady is revealed. Perhaps she lacks exuberance, perferring to take a more reserved and calm approach in life, but she isn't some loner that stands in the back of the crowd. She may be more stand-offish than your average person, and she may seem overly cautious with strangers, but that doesn't define her. She is a curious and adventurous girl that aspires to learn the secrets of the world around her. She is a girl that places a human life on the same level as the lives of anything else that feels. She is unshackled by the rules of society, a free spirit that knows no bounds.

Much like the water she wields, Selorm can easily become irritated by the simplist prod. The water will ripple, but soon grow still once more. However, with the occurance of a disaster, water can become a catasrophic, lethal force. This is the most effective way to describe Selorm's temperment. She will take the abuse of others or watch others be abused with little commotion. Perhaps she may spit out a meek line, but despite the internal war she may be having, Selorm finds it difficult to not be passive.

But, like everyone, she has a breaking point. It is rare, but Selorm's wrath revolves around pent up emotions of anger, guilt and hurt, creating a sense of vengence within her.

Biography: Selorm was born in the winter time with the tribe of Aub. Her delivery was a harsh one, but her mother had thankfully survived. She was the baby of her family, her only other sibling being her brother who was four years older than her. Her relationship with them was as solid as the trunk of an oak tree. Selorm's father was a hunter for the tribe, oftening leaving home to complete his role. Despite her mother forbidding it, Selorm often tailed her father, curious to see the world outside of her home within the mountains. At first Selorm would be taken home and scolded, but eventually her father decided to stop fighting his daughter's passion to learn and instead nurture it. With him she discovered her favorite place to be, a hidden dip in the mountain where a crystal clear pond resided. A small waterfall flowing up from the rocks below fed the pond. This was the very place Selorm first learned how to manipulate water, and the place she went to further her skills in using it. It was a slow process, but by the age of ten she was able to pick up a fallen tree or small boulder (like as big as a human torso, nothing crazy) with nothing but water.

Her brother's skill, being four years ahead in practice and naturally talented, was striking. He could use water to slice rocks in half, maintained expert control even when manipulating it into shapes, basically he was able to do everything Selorm wished she could. Despite this, was no jealousy within Selorm, just determination to be as strong and as skilled as her older brother.

Selorm's brother entered the Annual Fighting Festival at the age of 16, ranking second in the elite eight. He entered again at 17, this time taking first. Placing in the elite eight was admirable, but taking the title of first? He brought honor and glory to the quiet House of Aub, proving that these people were not weak. They had potential and strength. Fame was brought to Selorm's family.

Selorm's mother was once a dancer in her tribe, but left that life behind with the birth of her first child. One day when young Selorm went to fetch her mother she found her mother dancing gracefully across the yard. Selorm was amazed, and pressured her mother day and night to teach her. Eventually her mother caved in, and now Selorm has been dancing since the age of 6. She combined her manipulation and dance together into a wonderful show.

Soon he turned eighteen, and it was no surprise that by then he could manipulate ice. The tribe reveered him as a hero, someone born to do great things. It was only then that Selorm began to feel the icy prickle of spite. She loved her brother, but she was becoming frustrated. She worked even harder than he did to get where she was, and now she was just the Hero's weak little sister. A disconnect threw her relationship with her brother in a spin. She began picking fights, acting childish, yet he always remained calm and gentle. He would smile through every fight, not in a sarcastic way, but a smile of genuine understanding. This only made Selorm more upset. One day, close to her 15th birthday, Selorm got in a big fight with her brother. She had lashed out, telling him she hated him before isolating herself in her room. That was also the day her brother led a warrior party to defend against a group of incoming rouge Mardom knights. The Aub group was sorely outnumbers, but in a valiant attempt to keep intruders from entering the village, Selorm's brother pulled the snow down from the overlooking mountain, creating an avalanche that buried both the rouge Mardom group and the warriors from the tribe, crushing and suffocating them to death.

The guilt and pain from her brother's death still dominates her heart.

Current Tribe: Asman

Original House: Aub

Manipulation: Water

Additional Info: Her brother's staff. The wood is light but stong, with a sliver colored blade on one end.

Statistics

Name: Charlotte "Lotte" Leroux

Age: 15

Gender: Female

Height: 5’8”

Weight: 130 lbs

Current Tribe: Mardom

Original House: Leroux

Manipulation: Weapons

House history:
The Leroux house wasn’t ever a very large or prominent house. While they did produce fighters and element manipulators, they hadn’t received high honors in the Annual Fighting Festival since before the defeat the kingdom of Mardom suffered after attempting to assimilate the tribe of the Zorg Mountains.

While in more recent history House Leroux wasn’t well-known for their manipulators and fighters since the last ones they had to make it into the elite eight no longer claim the fame for their house that they once did since their time is past, they are well-known as crafters specializing in leatherworking and leather trade.

Most of the members of House Leroux began competing as soon as they were able. While they had not been successful in making a name for their House in the competitions, they began training at a young age with the hopes of being capable enough to land in the elite eight. This goes on for years, training and competing with the support of the rest of House Leroux, but once they turn twenty, they stop entering the festival and turn their attention to continuing the family business.

Despite the extensive training that the members of House Leroux undergo and the young age they tend to start at, it has been some time since one of their line has claimed a spot in the elite eight. It isn’t to say that they don’t still do well in the competition, just not well enough to earn a place of prestige.

While the Annual Fighting Festival is something that House Leroux looks forward to, it is also a topic that others sometimes shy away from when speaking with one of the family simply because while at least one person from their house competes every year, they still have not placed in the top ranks. Their constant seeming failure is almost considered an embarrassment to other houses and so they try to avoid the topic.

Additional Info

Weapons: Crossbow, rapier, dagger, caltrops, main gauche

Tattoos: Dove outline on her left inner wrist, Celtic knot on her right shoulderblade

Identity

Likes: Jewelry, rainy days, painting, the smell of pine, theatre, running, chocolate, climbing

Dislikes: Amphibians, smoke, beards, street performers, crumbled stone, cheese, fish, rust

Strengths: Perseverance, fortitude, adventurous, independence, impartiality, ambition, initiative, candor, confidence, fearlessness

Weaknesses: Frivolous, brash, immature, self-indulgent, stubbornness, scapegoating, passion, deceptiveness, shamelessness, pride

Personality:
Growing up with two older brothers that she often placed the blame on has caused Lotte to see most people as scapegoats. She has gotten to where she will place the blame on anyone in order to keep herself out of trouble, even if it isn’t necessarily something that can really be caused by someone else; such as something caused by her own misgivings, she would just say that someone else distracted her and because of this tendency she can seem like a bit of a brat.

To Lotte, life is about having fun. She’d rather live in the moment than think about tomorrow and it’s this mindset that prevents her from really taking anything seriously. Everything she does she only does because she gets some sort of joy out of doing it and she tends to try and hide from things that don’t make her happy and that can make her appear pretty immature.

Looking at Lott from the outside, she seems like a huge tomboy. She runs the streets with her brothers, gets into fights, has a rough way of speaking from her tone to the words she uses, but that isn’t all there is to her. She doesn’t like other people knowing it, but Lotte really is a girlie girl. She doesn’t mind getting dirty or roughhousing, but the side she doesn’t like people knowing about is the one that likes frilly dresses and fancy shoes, getting her hair styled, and cuddling with furry animals.

Biography

Born to the popular while not so prominent House Leroux, Lotte began training for the Annual Fighting Festival basically as soon as she was able to walk. With two older brothers, she had a lot to live up to and even more expected of her. She realized at a young age, being the youngest and a girl, that it was easy to get away with things because all she had to do was pout and blame it on her brothers. Her brothers would get scolded and told that she was their sister and they had to look out for her and take care of her and this led to them ditching her a lot. That was the primary reason Lotte started to become a fast runner, she had to be to keep up with them.

When she was ten, her brothers thought that it would be funny to hide her favorite doll somewhere in the city. Mortified that her brothers had gone in her room and seen her belongings, she almost didn’t go find the doll, but it was her favorite and so that day she followed the clues her brothers left her to find the doll.

It took her all day and by evening she finally made it to the bell tower where the doll had been hidden, but she couldn’t get inside because the doors were locked. She had come all that way and the idea of going home empty handed broke her heart so she decided not to. Instead of staying on the street that night and waiting to get into the tower the next day, she scaled the outside of the structure and finally reached the top to claim the doll as night fell.

Holding the doll and climbing back down in the dark were not easy things for a ten-year-old girl to do and while she slowly made her way back to the bottom, she fell at the last moment and hit the steps of the tower, splitting her face open vertically across her left eye. She screamed bloody murder and that alerted those living near the tower, it also alerted her father and uncle who had gone in search of her after the family’s leather emporium closed for the night and they realized that she was missing. After questioning her brothers on her whereabouts they were eventually lead to the tower and when they all returned home it was one of those times where Lotte could actually blame her brothers for what had happened and it was actually their fault.

After she had healed from her injury (retaining a scar as a reminder of the incident), she realized how much she actually enjoyed the hunt and despite her brothers desire to skip a repeat of the punishment they had received after having caused their little sister to get injured, they eventually caved under her incessant nagging and thus began their city races.

The very first race started much the same way as the scavenger hunt with the doll, only to make it fair, there were no clues to be found. All three of them went out the day before the first race and hid a palm size, rounded, blue-gray stone with their family sigil engraved on it. The following day, they would all race to reach the stone first and the losers had to do the winner’s chores that day.

All of the climbing and endurance that they required to complete their races were the only reason that their family let them continue the races, realizing that they could use the skills the developed along with their formal combat training. Running helped them build stamina and climbing helped them build muscle, not to mention that both helped them with agility.

Outside of the daily races, Lotte and her brothers underwent extensive training in unarmed, armed, and ranged combat all the while learning to utilize their gifts of manipulation while in the heat of battle. As was the way of their family, their parents had long since abandoned any pursuit of renown through success in the Fighting Festival and while they devoted their time to continuing the family’s name as a well-known leather crafter, they hired instructors to train their children in the hopes that they could achieve greatness.

Lotte and her brother’s each had their own specialization in weaponry. Her Eldest brother, Albert, was skillful in weapons meant to smash rather than slice, preferring two handed maces to more delicate weapons, while Dorian preferred the longsword. Lotte on the other hand preferred a much more delicate blade, using a rapier and learning the art of fencing. They also each chose a different ranged weapon: throwing axes, longbow, and crossbow respectively.

A year after the incident that caused Lotte the scar and after Albert’s first failed attempt at succeeding in the Annual Fighting Festival, the way Lotte interacted with others would change. After her brothers’ prank on her, she had taken to hiding all of the girlie items that she had once enjoyed. Dressing up and shopping for shoes were things that she left in her past, at least that was something that she would let others think.

While Albert and Dorian knew the origins of her scar and in a great way respected her for how she got it, others were not so kind. The girls that she played with when she had the chance, the ones she had thought were her friends, began proving otherwise. She first noticed the change in her friends when they would go on outings and not invite her, making up some excuse like it was a last minute jaunt or they couldn’t find her to ask. Eventually it came to the point where she became upset with one of her friends when she found out the girl was having a party and hadn’t invited Lotte.

Lotte wasn’t standing for it and her temper boiled over. She seized the girl by the arm and whirled her around so that her back was to Lotte before forcing her down on the ground, holding her twisted arm up in the air as she pushed the girls’ face in the dirt. She was furious and when the girl screamed that it was because of the scar on her face and no one wanted to see her, Lotte very nearly dislocated the girl’s arm if not for her brother’s intervening and dragging a kicking and screaming Lotte from a girl that she had once thought was her friend.

After that, Lotte didn’t spend time with girls anymore, instead running the streets with her brothers and their friends when they weren’t all training. The boys didn’t care about her scar, they all had plenty and while they laughed at the fact that she got the scar because of a doll, they still thought that it was pretty incredible that she had scaled the exterior of the bell tower just to get it.

Over the years, Lotte watched both of her brothers compete in the Annual Fighting Festival, and every year, they didn’t place where they had wanted to. It wasn’t to say that they were terrible fighters without proper control of their manipulation abilities, they just weren’t top tier. Each year they would increase their training a few months prior to the festival in hopes of getting a better advantage and ear year, Lotte was right there training alongside them.
