Ernis Blythe

AkioTheHero

The Twenty-Fifth Roleplayer

Appearance: Ernis Blythe has striking brown eyes and moderately long, unkempt brunette hair that protrudes from under his houndstooth cap, an accessory he chose for the sole purpose of emulating the attire of Golden Age sleuths. Along with his houndstooth cap, his detective persona was completed by a black wool peacoat and peppermint pipes of his creation he sucks on in lieu of actually smoking.

Name:
Ernis Blythe

Age:
16

Gender:
Male

Sexuality:
Heterosexual

Occupation:
Self-proclaimed "detective"/self-employed private investigator -- Ernis is the founding member of the Ernis Blythe Detective Agency, a club at the Baskerville High School where members take on typically small investigative jobs for a minimal fee.

Bio:
From a young age, Ernis Blythe had been entirely immersed into the realm of investigative fiction; dedicated fan of Conan Arthur Doyle, Raymond Chandler, Agatha Christie and others within their ilk, as well as thorough researcher of real world inexplicable occurrences and mysteries, unresolved missing persons reports and actual murder mysteries, Ernis always had an eye for asking questions and a penchant for getting answers. The aspiring sleuth's dream, with the advent of mysterious applications that could manifest from one's smart device called "Spell Codes", along with them came a slew of questions that scratched Ernis's detective itch, with "where did they come from?" and "Why and how are they being distributed?" only being the tip of the iceberg.

As these "Spell Codes" became increasingly accessible to the general public, pranks and even criminal activity supplemented by these magic applications began to rear their head. Aiming to bring himself one step closer to finding the answers he seeks, Ernis founded the "Ernis Blythe Detective Agency", an exclusive club students seldom get accepted into wherein members will accept a minimal fee to carry out small investigative tasks. As many mysteries that Ernis has to tackle incorporate into themselves use of these "Spell Codes", Ernis thus uses his "detective agency" -- something that anyone unfamiliar with the small town where he lives would pass off as juvenile and cute -- as a front for investigating the true nature of "Spell Codes" without attracting unwanted attention.

Personality:
Ernis Blythe holds himself with constant grace and confidence in both demeanor and attire, possessing the disposition of an English detective. However, though he seems to attempt to show himself as calm and composed in attempting to suppress his expressiveness, his control over her emotions is scarce. He is easily embarrassed when she realizes even the slightest hint of expression crosses him; he makes great strides to present himself as stoic and down-to-Earth, however in reality she appears truly somewhat emotional and excitable.

Nonetheless, Ernis is clever and quick-witted and has a penchant for puzzles and riddles and possesses a veritable repertoire of knowledge on detective fiction and murder mysteries well beyond his years. He often challenges other people with various riddles and puzzles, and just the same welcomes people to do the same unto him. He exhibits strong problem-solving prowess, even in moments of extreme stress or pressure. He also possesses a bit of forked tongue; though never outright hateful, he participates in humor defined by a bit of a playful snark.

Contributing to his puzzle and problem-solving skills, Ernis is incredibly observant; however he has a hard time picking up on the most blatant of body language. Outside of social conventions, however, he's capable of noting even the basest of details or movements about him. He has a habit of overthinking things and making simple situations much more complicated than they rightly need to be.

Ernis flounders in social interactions. He has a hard time reading or reacting to various emotions, and can oftentimes come off as insincere, unsympathetic or asocial even when he doesn’t mean to be. Additionally, despite his broad repertoire of knowledge, Nix’s common sense is somewhat lacking -- he often overthinks everyday situations and, thus, reacts how he “deduced” he should, rather than what is typically accepted. His knowledge of social conventions is incredibly limited.

Ernis has a distinct disdain for using luck-based games and activities such card games, trading card games, coin flipping and other such means of random generation for either recreation or as a means of settling disputes. He much prefers situations be settled with more skill or ability-based affairs, whether they’re fair or no.

Type of Spell Codes Used:
Perceptive | Tactical

Spell Codes (Min. 3 Max. 5 to start)

Tactical Vision: Rank(B): The singlemost important tool in Ernis's arsenal is his Spell Code "Tactical Vision". "Tactical Vision" instills into Ernis an understanding of his current situation, and thus allowing him to, as a result, deduce how best to react in order to save his skin. "Tactical Vision" provides Ernis with a purely objective and physical analysis of his surroundings and the behavior of objects and people about him; as such, it is entirely on him to figure out how best to use the information that is provided to him.

Take the Wheel: Rank(A): Take the Wheel is a physically strenuous Spell Code that allows Ernis to provide his body with metaphysical instructions which, when triggered, he must adhere to until the instructions' rightful conclusion. Take the Wheel allows and forces Ernis's body and mind to be exerted far beyond what Ernis is capable of without Take the Wheel, as the spells forces Ernis's body to behave as it is told with restraint. However, as the instructions Ernis inputs are entirely inflexible, Ernis is incapable of modifying his actions once the spell is triggered, which could very well cause the spell to backfire in case Ernis's foresight fails him. And, as the spell forces Ernis's body and reactionary mind to operate at levels far beyond what they're capable of, essentially "overclocking" himself, immense strain will be put on Ernis's body and mind, which could cause high levels of severe physical and mental damage. Similarly, Take the Wheel allows Ernis to use Spell Codes well beyond their natural limit, however he can only do so during one set of Take the Wheel instructions. Once the instructions end, the Spell Code's limit will be multiplied by how many times Ernis forced himself to use it, or the recoil Ernis will suffer will be multiplied much the same.

Necromancy: Rank(A): Necromancy is incredibly similar to Take the Wheel, except rather than being applied to Ernis, Ernis relays a set of instructions to an inanimate object with close proximity to him. However, it is much more limited as the major uses of this skill are to manipulate vectors -- velocity and magnitude -- and force an object to move, mold or behave in weird ways -- HOWEVER, it is even more strenuous as objects' shapes and forms make it harder to force them to behave in a wider variety of ways, and depending on the nature, size, weight or distance from Ernis of the object, it can take even more to effectively manipulate them.

Goal:
To get a broader understanding of the nature of the mysterious "Spell Codes"
