RPNation's Overpowered Heroic Sword Saint

Adventurer, Romantic, Mercenary...Elliot has had many roles in his many lifetimes but in his youth, he was destined to be a hero. You know the type, stop the dark forces, save the world, get the girl and all that. Unfortunately for him, early on within his first journey, through only a slight fault of his own, his body was possessed by a bored phoenix that hijacked his adventure for a change of pace. The crafty beast stole his adventure from him, defeated his foes, stole the hearts that should have been Elliot's...by the time the beast had relinquished its control on him, The adventure had long been over, Elliot(his body, at least) had been married and brought about the birth of a few long-lived children. Not to mention the actual changes that occurred to his formerly human form. Elliot found that he no longer aged, his magical ability had been greatly increased, and he now revived from death- learned fairly quickly when he attempted to end his own life soon after getting it back- though sometimes not completely the same as he was before.
Following this, Elliot spent centuries as different people, doing things that never had the same fulfillment as his one chance to be a legend. Eventually, thanks to his long life experience and natural charm and looks, Elliot found his way to a grand new adventure...Ambassador to Mythical and Supernatural Entities. Fun, right?
Personality:
Elliot is good-natured and playful, but also quite tired of the world as it is. He remembers a time of legends and heroes and finds his present predicament to be a bore in comparison. However, he enjoys the company of his friends and colleagues and at least tries to take his work seriously, despite how much he might dislike it.

Skills:
Besides the average abilities of a phoenix, regeneration, some of the hottest flames in existence, and deep reserves of magical energy, Elliot has a near-perfect recall, only losing the occasional memory upon being slain...unfortunately, Elliot doesn't consciously know how to control his magical power. He's been known to turn a fireball into localized explosions, and his attempts to go all out have ended in little more than childish fireworks. It is as a result of his unpredictable abilities that Elliot is rarely allowed on the field if he's even allowed outside the building, in the first place
Elliot also has his old hero equipment and his experiences in various cultures, societies, and arts, Which are the only things he can absolutely rely on in a fight.
