The Kirkpatricks were a wealthy family and as such Ella grew up with much luxury. However, her parents were divorced from each other when she was little and sometimes it felt like they had divorced from her too. She felt an enormous pressure to be the perfect daughter so that they would pay attention to her. She’s highly intelligent, practically a genius, and her parents loved to show this off. Ella continued to push herself harder and harder to be perfect resulting in immense fatigue and eventually bulimia at 14. She recovered in hospital and therapy over the course of the next year and when she was sixteen she returned to school. Ella was popular and outgoing, finally having a healthy sense of self. She had a large sweet 16 birthday party but at midnight she collapsed very suddenly. The woke up the next morning in hospital with tattoos all over her body. Her parents were outraged and she couldn't explain where they had come from. Then her powers started to manifest.
The first thing was that she could see the stars in the middle of the day. Then she began to be able to sense various celestial bodies. "Mars is in Libra this month." and so on and so forth. She thought she might be going crazy so she didn't tell her parents because they would definitely have thought she was crazy. She began to do as much research as she could on astronomy, a subject she was already interested in. Ella had always loved Space and astrophysics so it wasn't too big a stretch when she asked her parents for a telescope for her 17th birthday.
