THE E'LIK SPECIES
HISTORY: A species of human-adjacent beings native to the Perseus System. As many of the planets within the system lack life, or have since been destroyed, many E'lik (as they call themselves) have instead taken to colony ships, though few remain in the galaxies. Before taking to the skies, the planet they called home had, in fact, lost its rotation, causing one side to bake and blister in the sun while the other as lost in a frigid, dark night. This happened far before they ever left the planet, and in fact caused the E'lik to evolve a great sensitivity to their star (and many others). Peaceful, although standoffish, the E'lik have elected to keep their history to themselves. However, it appears that there is no deep history of war or conflict surrounding their kind. APPEARANCE: While generally human in appearance, their skin colors range along the warmer, more vibrant spectrum, featuring pinks, lavenders, and occasional dusty oranges. Those who have traveled far and have become exposed to the light of suns have begun to develop freckles, as might a human. Their eyesight also evolved. Black and speckled like the stars, they can see almost perfectly in the dark, but require protective lenses in direct light. As such, they were often considered untrustworthy in early interactions with humans. The stereotype persists, despite the peaceful and knowledge-loving nature of the E'lik. While each E'lik is different, generally speaking their facial structure and build are longer than that of humans. Generally taller, and with more diminished facial features, they are lithe and sinewy.
Biography
A former wiz-kid turned medic, Elegia was technically born on the moon of the fourth planet in the "Perseus" system. While it bears a different name for the locals of that system, known as the E'lik, Perseus 4 has been studied for some time due to its rotation having stopped and the exceptionally slow orbit around its star causing one side to be perpetually day while the other is perpetually night. However, when she was still young (approximately the age of four years to a human), her entire species left the planet behind to seek out a new destination to call home.
As a child, Elegia was raised to always ask questions, a common trait with the E'lik. This often landed her in hot water with those in command on board the colony ship given that her mother was a commanding officer.
Growing in the spotlight, Elegia thrived with pushing beyond what was expected of her. She excelled in her schooling and ended up on an accelerated track in medicine. Working at her father's side in the medicine bay, she quickly learned picked up the physiology of her own kind and began to study that of others.
