HistoryEleanor was born an only child in Prince Albert, SK,  a fairly small town with not much by way of tourist attractions. Her father, Joseph DuMonte, treasured his only daughter like a princess. He worked away from home, to earn money to keep his dear daughter and wife, Marlene “Minnie” DuMonte, fed and happy.

Marlene, however, sorely wished she had swallowed.

Her mother used to be a model, she was frankly gorgeous. Tall and lithe, with the perfect amount curve to her body. Pregnancy and childbirth ruined that. Her agency broke contract, and it crushed “Miss Minnie Mavene”. Her modelling career was ruined, and Marlene would forever hold that against Eleanor. Eleanor’s mother was, to put it bluntly, a drunk. She was too caught up in wallowing in her own self-pity to be a true mother, however, her ignorance was a large piece in the young DuMonte girl’s genius. She always strove to be the best she could, wanting desperately to be shown true affection. Her father was mostly oblivious to his wife’s neglect, but his visits were Eleanor’s favourite thing in the world. Her mother would stay sober for the day, and when she retired to bed, Joseph would take his daughter out into the woods by their house and teach her about the trees. As she aged, her lessons also became more advanced. Her parents relationship grew strained around Eleanor’s seventh birthday, and no matter how much they tried to hide it, she knew what was going to happen. They separated, but never filed for divorce. As much as it pained her father, he could not take custody, as the open road was never the place for a developing child.

She never truly fit in at school, much too advanced to play games with the other children. She was considered to be strange, always playing by herself or sitting in the classroom with her teacher. Throughout her childhood, the young DuMonte child was left to her own devices, while her mother would spend evenings locked in her room to drink her Mommy-Juice. While most would have been outside playing with friends, little Eleanor would be immersed in her books or experiments- Most of which involved her trawling through the woods by the playground and writing down everything she knew about the flora and fauna she came across. She was always a strange little girl, and when her teacher realised that she had excelled far beyond her peers academically, she insisted that her mother allow her to take specialised classes or skip a few grades. Her mother of course declined, preferring to believe she didn't have a child in the first place. Her mother’s lack of attention was a blessing in disguise, it seemed, as she had earned the attention of several local professors who offered to answer the questions her sixth grade teachers could not.

The plague hit when Eleanor was 15, she had enough common sense to quarantine herself. Her mother was one of the first to die, her alcoholism having severely inhibited her immune system. The death hurt the young woman much deeper than she would like to admit, and she fled the town as soon as possible, health hazards be damned. She stole her family's old pickup truck, loaded it with the essentials (Books, food, water, and vodka to keep her company). She was not the best driver, but with most of the world dead or dying they left the roads clear. She learned how to siphon gas after a few failed attempts, media had taught her the basics. She changed to a more fuel efficient vehicle.

Personality:

Eleanor is an odd girl, she's practically a genius. However, what she has in book smarts, she lacks for in street smarts. She is socially inept, she can pick up on physical cues but has no clue what they mean or how she should behave. She talks a lot when nervous, spouting off random facts or things she's noticed around them. She doesn't have many friends, and hates being touched by most people. She is a bit of an outsider in most groups, finding herself rather alienated by others. Her few friends are the only people that Eleanor will actively cling to and follow around. She is very analytical, occasionally viewed as aloof. She is just awkward around most. She is just awkward around most, vacillating between rarely speaking and not shutting up. Eleanor is fairly clueless when it comes to most things, completely missing any subtleties unless she is told explicitly.
