[Ed1] CALL FOR A WYLD HUNT!

Dear Great Houses,

We have received confirmed information about the existence of new Solar Anathema in the Threshold. We first lost contact to the demons because the cowards were running into a Wyld-area. Now we relocated the Forsaken near the Hundred Kingdoms. An unholy circle was definitely established a short time ago (xp50). The number of attached Anathema to the circle is roughly 3-4. Our advantage: They never encountered a wyld hunt and are more than confident of themselves.

I know the forces of the Realm were needed on the Blessed Island, so I only ask for an appropriate and balanced Hunt. What kinds of specialists are needed with which powers? Due my lack of experience in Wyld hunt tactics I need also advise in that area.

I'll be grateful and honored for any advice, suggestion or simply tips that will be given! If there is anywhere already a solution to my problem around here, I apologize

I remain as a faithful servant of the Realm

From the sendings of Eygotyostuv, God of Intercepted Things, to Redstone:

What you need:  The Unconquered Sun's own luck.  Wait, that will not help you I guess.

Okay, wait until they are separated; even Exalted enjoy privacy while peeing.  Jump the Demon while he/she has their pants down.  Then escape so that you can heal and recharge essence before attacking again.

Perhaps during this time you can keep harassing the Anathema, wearing them down and making them paranoid.

And please, the next time you send mail to someone, do not tie it to a pigeon.

Actually the wyld hunt is not used to deal with threats like that. If you want a realistic wyld hunt then the solars will most likely kill it of fairly easy. The hunt is used to kill newly exalted solars who are alone, insecure and confused.

the typical wyld hunt is 3-4 dragon blooded from different houses, a monk or two, 3-4 fangs of mortal infantry.

if you want to make it a bit more experienced with an actual chance of threatening the solars, add 4 more fangs of infantry and a siderial in a starmetal warstrider :)

Well I see ... I need bigger guns. Thats the message, right?

How about my personal and non-typical Big Hunt!

Two scales of elite soldiers.

One scale of archers.

Two Fangs of good Dragonblooded Hunters.

Two Realm Warstriders.

One Sidereal pretending to be a Dragonblooded Hunter.

(Where are the great strategists, when you need them?)

FOr an experienced 'BIG HUNT" I use 8 Dragon Blooded per Solar

2 monks per dragon blood

and 10 archers per dragon blood

A while ago, I challenged the wiki to think about this.
I know this link and I already created a hunt that is suggested there. In fact this post in the Wiki was the reason why I created this threat here. It is described there as "Beginning Wyld Hunt Tactics". But my players are at least three 50xp solars. So I decided to ask here for "advanced tactics" and hints from experienced storytellers how their "Big Hunts" work and which specialists from the Dragonblooded Aspects they are using.

My problem is my lack of knowledge of the Dragonblooded. I have the book but I am still reading the details of the charms. And I am running out of time ... we are playing at saturday

Meh, honestly if I once more read the "jump them in the bathtub" thing I am going to hand out an award for a really crappy copy of something that was neither funny nor especially exciting or beneficial to the plot in the first place.

I mean imagine the scene. Wyld hunt assembeled ourside the village the anathema camp in. banners which should proudly display house insignia are rolled in and hidden, warstriders are powered down and pained in green to better blend into the surroundings and a downtrodden local reports to an immaculate monk: "quick, get them now, they are taking a bath right now".

the wise monk slowly nods "our destiny has come my brothers, our noble cause is to sneak in like thieves and fight them in their bathtub"

meeeeh. no cookies for that storyteller

Lol, okay, if you put it like that.  I don't think that rl history disagrees with me though; always hit your enemy when you have the best advantage.  With the new mechanics in the game, would it really be too difficult for 3-5 DB's to take out a 50xp Solar who isn't backed by 2 more 50xp Solars?

Furthermore, the Hunt isn't what it used to be.  Kill the s.o.b. in the shower, get his head and bring it home.  "We killed him on the battlefield, Mom, everyone in my Hunt says so."  Who's going to say "No they didn't; doesn't that head smell Ivory fresh?"

Yes but some of the Hunts are still fucking BEASTS. Read Ruins of Rathess. Your 50 xp Solar and his buds won't do shit against four Immaculates with 400 xp each (they're in there read it) along with a warstrider, a sorcerer and a talon of infantry.

*blinks*... maybe I need to go back and CotI. Wyld Hunt using Warstriders? Doesn't sound familiar.

Most do. Shock value, propaganda... all in one. Another reason for the hunt to not come quiet in the middle of the night. They are the very best the realm has to offer.

MMM, I really don't see most Wyld Hunts using 'Striders anymore.  Maybe if that bastard Deled was in charge.  I just have this feeling that the big bad machines are staying home for the upcoming family fight. (which is why I say the Wyld Hunt isn't what it used to be: fewer recruits, fewer toys, much less "honorable" than they were, etc, etc....)

They WERE the best the Realm had to offer.  Not anymore, imo.

Well either they don't come in force or they react slower 'cause it takes longer to gather the troops.

I'm not certain what the best make up of an anti-anathema group should be, but tactic-wise, I really am a fan of divide and conquer, even if the bathroom scene was over the top (it was humor in practice, but serious in point).

Fighting one solar is going to be enough...unless you can get them to weaken themselves before hand.  Have them fight large numbers of ...I don't know...that are causing riots in the countryside and ruining the solars' attempts at peace.  Once the solars are worn out, move in and obliterate.

Or chase them.  With enough DB's, have an engagement once or twice a day.  Rotate the DB's that have and haven't used up essence.  Three solars can probably only hold off fresh DB's (6-9 per engagement?) for..what, a day or two max?  Especially if its those danged Immaculates or a terrestrial mage that can cause environmental problems that hamper the Anathema only.

If you like a more direct approach, I would start with a passive defense, let the characters blow through essence, then move in for the kill.  Although this is the better course for dramatic action, imo its also the less realistic approach.

Six or nine and engagement? Are you nuts? You;ll kill them in one if you're not railroading it for them(the Solars) to get the glory. No, no, numbers are fun, but quality can be just as, if not more terrifying.

Try a handful of Terrestrials, typical Brotherhood with support troops and equipment. Perhaps try the fang of Terrestrials in Dragon Armor? That would be a WHORE for your characters, but an epic battle no less.

Actually three terrestrials in wood dragon armour can ruin most essence channelers day... that is a pretty good tactic for a high powered hunt.

apart from that... use warstriders. sure it is hard to hit them but they burn essence like mad pulling out their perfect defenses, cause nobody wants to be hit by a strider.

Tactics?

okay using the numbers I gave you earlier

Have the Mortal archers rain down arows on the solars from a distance or an overlooking hill or cliff

en hav

This shoould start the solars spending essence to dodge

then have the mounted terrestrials and immaculates move in with ride by attacks, still burning the enemy essence

when the solars are out of essence, move in for the kills

if i was a solar I'd throw up a persistent and go after the dragon blooded :P

if all of them have appropriate persistents

then they have a chance

but even then they will not stop all the arrows

and those wound points add up to a -1 quickly

weakening them

that means that the DBs can use their 8-1 advantage wo wear the solars out more

Ok, unless this Solar is really good, eight DBs WILL fuck him up, persistent defence or not. Something will get through, I promise. Eight DBs might as well be a death sentence. I've used THREE DBs on a 400xp Solar and nearly killed him, with very little effort on the DBs part and no artifacts.

I assume this wyld hunts to fight the PC's?

another thing you should think on.

which side of the dragonblooded do you want to portray more.

that their essentialy heroic people fighting against chaos, who happen to have the poor fortune to be raised in a society that brainwashed them into viewing the solars as anathema.

Or as evil powergrubbing monsters.

If its the former you might WANT to send out a wimpy wild hunt... putting special emphasis on something like

"they are doomed, and yet they press on his last words as he fights are "FOR CREATION!!" (or for one of the immaculates, his house or whatever)

If the latter a big hunt filled aaragont snotty dynasts, especialy with a lot of poorly treated slaves may be best.

Either way it's worth it. I take the middle ground for DBs, some are good and some are bad. But guess what? My PCs never gave a shit, honorable or otherwise, if you were a DB flying a Realm banner, you had already signed your death warrant *shrug* it's how the dice roll.
