I consistently receive e-mails whenever I get an alert, I've tried everything to stop this but they still continue. Is there a setting to stop this, or will I have to deal with this?

I wouldn't, heh!
Though what exactly do I turn on/off? All of my "and receive email notifications of replies" options are off in Preferences but I continue to receive e-mails.

Email alerts are in a couple of different places, so you have to make sure you (un)check them all. In addition to what Meredith suggested, also try Watched Threads. On the far right is a dropdown that says "Manage Watched Threads" - from there you can Disable Email Notifications. (Make sure you don't click Stop Watching Threads by accident!)
