Biography & Background:

Born in the Republic of Texas, Doc was the third son of a farmer and his wife. His father only grew food for the family, and a little extra to sell in the nearby town of Woodlam. At the age of three, when Texas was annexed into The Union, Dwayne's father was pulled to fight for his country, and subsequently died for his country. Dwayne's two older brothers, David, 6 years older than Dwayne, and Duke, 3 years older than Dwayne, took over the farm doing what they could managing the crops with their mother and doing small odd-ball jobs in town. Dwayne lived a fairly normal life, the town helped the widow and her three boys. As the City of Dallas grew, Woodlam, which was roughly 25 miles to the east of Dallas, saw an increase in traffic, and sometimes those strangers liked to cause trouble in their small, one-road town.

When the Compton boys were 19, 16, and 13, they were all deputized much to the dismay of their mother, however they couldn't pass up the money that came with the job. David and Duke did most of the enforcing, and during their early years Dwayne would hold a scatter gun, the idea was that Dwayne could get one could shot off and go hide afterwards to keep him safe. As the years went on, Dwayne practiced his shooting, and by the age of 18 Dwayne was one of the best shots the town had ever seen. By 1860 both David and Duke were married, with nieces and nephews on the way for Dwayne. Dwayne knew he handle the trouble that came into the town, and convinced his brothers to retire from being deputies and take up farming again. At 18, Dwayne was the lone Sheriff of Woodlam.

When the Civil War broke out in 1861, both David and Duke wanted to go fight for Texas. Dwayne tried to talk his brothers out of it, saying they had no loyalty to anyone but themselves, their families, and the town, but failed. In May of 1861 The Compton Brothers left Woodlam to go fight in the war. By 1863, The oldest brother had been promoted to an officer and the brothers found themselves at Gettysburg. The events of those sweltering July days will forever haunt Dwayne's mind. On the first day of the battle, Duke was killed in a pointless charge. In his anger, David led a second charge the following day of battle, and was also killed, along with most of their regiment. When the battle finally waned on the third of July, Dwayne was the only brother left standing. Suffering a wound to his left leg in the battle, Dwayne left the Confederate Army, and made his way back to Woodlam.

Dwayne stayed in Woodlam for only a few months, his fatherless nieces and nephews reminded him too much of his brothers too much. Dwayne left most of his money with his mother who, with his brother's widows, had begun to raise a new generation of Comptons in Woodlam. Dwayne went west, where he has spent the last 4 years working has a hired gun. The last two years, with the world slowly descending into chaos after the eruption, Dwayne has seen an increased in work opportunities. Doc's name is extremely well known in East Texas, and fairly known in the rest of Texas, outside of Texas it can be hit or miss if people have heard of him.

I like'em, I like'em. Just a few questions though; once you answer, consider this character accepted.

  • Would you say that Compton is prejudiced towards those who fought, like him, for the South?
  • What are his feelings about the United States, the Federal government, and Northerners in general?
  • What skills or advantages would Compton have that would assist in the building/maintaining of Journey?
  • Personally, do you think I should add an equipment secton to the CS? It might make keeping track of what a PC has on them easier for the players, especially when questing or in combat.

1) No, he figures everyone has their own reason for fighting in the war. He wasn't necessarily for or against slavery.

2) He generally doesn't trust northerners, but wont outright attack them or dismiss them.

3) I feel his main role would be some sort of Law Enforcement, however he would learn whatever he needed to be apart of the crew.

4) It might easier, especially to keep track of weapons each person has.
