That Damned Cowboy
Name:

Region/Specialty: (Where they typically conduct research and typical species.)
Appearance: (photo w/ description)
History: (Two paragraph minimum)
Personality: (One paragraph minimum)
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Other:

Please note three things:

1) This a period roleplay set in the 1890's, keep character realistic for the time period. While there is some magic, its few and extremely far between so it should harldy be considered to be present. Also, steampunk elements are not allowed.

2) This is Dragonology role play, not a dragon roleplay, therefore your character must be a human dragonologist.

3) This is a Dragonology roleplay, not a How to Train Your Dragon role play. Raising dragons is a part of this world, but its very hard to do. For that reason I will only allow 2 characters to have pet dragons, and both must be juvenile.

Name: Alan T. Goodnight

Age: 25

Nationality: American

Region/Specialty: North American Ampithere, North American Monstrology (Cryptozology), Paleodragonology

Appearance:

1540453086597.png
Alan stands at 6’2” and weighs in around 220 lbs. His hair is a dirty shade of blonde, and his eyes are a very pale shade of blue. Most often he is dressed for the open range, as there is where he’s often found, be he keeps his wardrobe appropriate for the situations he’s in.

History: Alan grew up on the vast western interior of the United States on his family’s homestead. His first experience with Dragons came at a young age when he discovered that it was not rustlers or Natives, but an amphithere herding his family’s cattle off of cliffs to later be eaten. With the help some natives who knew what to do from old legends, the bargained with the dragon and began leaving offering a head of cattle every now again so that it would stay well fed and in turn not run more cows off the range than needed. In time however, the serpent left.

As he came upon the age of 18, Alan’s father sent him off to school in California, where he studied for some time. But soon enough his wild and rambunctious ways caused him to want to head back out into the untamed country which he loved. And his chance came when he was offered the chance to go as part of a paleontological expedition. Although he was originally to be a worker, his knowledge of the open lands and skill he’d developed with firearms in his youth lead him to be a valued scout and defender of the party from any hostilities which the west could provide. This was until they came face to face with another ampithere. He handled the situation calmly and once again was able to handle the situation without casualties, but the party had to agree to leave the area.

Due to Goodnights resourceful handling of the situation, the lead Paleontologist introduced the young man to a Dragonologist who happened to be a member of the S.A.S.D. From here, Alan, found great interest in the field and enjoyed the hands on experience he found searching for extraordinary creatures in wild and untamed lands. He even became acquainted with Dr. Ernest Drake on one of his trips to America. Within his 5 years in the field, he’s become the leading expert in field dragonology.

Personality:
Sharp as a tack and quick to take action, Alan is definitely a hands on kind of person. Rather than studying ancient artifacts or putting together theories, you’re likely to find him out in the field making observations in person. He hates being pinned down to one place and would rather roam free more than anything. In a lot of ways, he’s very much like the stereotypical rowdy cowboys of the time, but he has a better head on his shoulders and more capable than most would think.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+Very hands on and resourceful in the field

+Quick Thinker

+Good with Firearms

-Bad with magical aspects

-Bad with lab/theoretical aspects

-Poor communicator

Name: Hanna Jorunn

Age: 27

Nationality: Icelandic

Region/Specialty: Northern Frost Dragon, Northern Monsterology, Marine Monstertology

Appearance:IMG_0181.JPG
Hanna stands at 5'4 and has dark brown eyes. She usually wears warm or outdoorsy clothing, preferring convenience over fashion.

History:
Hanna was raised in a small, rural, town in northern Iceland. Even at a young age, Hanna was always an explorer. She had a great love of animals and a reputation of running off on her own. When she was around nine, there was a a shift in temperature in home. All the sudden, winters became much colder than normal, her town shrank as many made the choice to move to America. It was during this cooling period Hanna decided to take a peek over the steep cliffs surrounding the sea, and saw her first dragon.

A solitary Frost dragon was playing in the waves at the bottom of the cliff. She watched in stunned silence as it frolics in the freezing water, before spreading its white wings, and flying off. Hanna watched it until it was too far away to see even if she squinted, before running home to tell her parents what she saw. While she was laughed out for her ridiculous story, the incident lit a flame in her mind. When she turned 19 and was sent inland to attend school, Hanna knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life.

In school, Hanna studied biology and ecology before moving on to Finland. She was certain of the fact that she had seen a dragon, and suspected that it had come to Iceland because of the dramatically cold winter. With a camera in tow, Hanna journeyed through Finland hoping to find a lead on her dragon and prove its existence to the world. Luckily for her, she found a member of S.A.S.D first. From him she learned that the creatures she had sought to expose had been subject to abuse by those who had learned of learned of their existence and desired to exploit it. Ashamed of her prior intentions and fascinated by those of the S.A.S.D, Hanna decided to turn her life around and join them. Ever since she has been an active observer of the reclusive Northern Frost dragon and has gone on many private expositions to study their behavior and migration patterns.

Personality: Hanna is a very patient and cautious individual. While she much prefers working in the field to the lab, she is adept at both and is never one to make an expedition unprepared. She can stay in one place for months at a time simply making day-by-day observations of a single creature or family of them. Direct interactions with the objects of her study are some of her favorite parts of field work. Dragons and monsters fascinate her on another level and the wonder she experiences from being around them is the same as it was the first time she ever saw a dragon.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ Field work
+ Observation
+ Foresight
- Improvising
- Fighting

Other: In the months when the Frost dragons migrate North, Hanna turns her focus to Monsterology; particularly sea serpents, kraken, leviathans, and hippogriffs.

!!!!!!.jpgName: Cathal McKay
Age: 23
Nationality: Australian
Region/Specialty: Mountains, Marsupial and Tasmanian Dragons, Bushcraft
Appearance: 5’11” and 150lbs, Cathal is on the small and squirrelly side. He has very red hair that he wears longer than might be fashionable, and very blue eyes, and a lot of freckles

History: Cathal’s mother was born in Belfast, Ireland, and sentenced to Transportation at Botany Bay for stealing corn during the Great Famine. She never returned to Ireland, and instead raised seven boisterous children in Sydney, of which Cathal was the eldest. He most likely would have lead a dragonless life if his mother had not moved them to a small town in the Blue Mountains when he was twelve. Cathal’s new job of tending to the family’s small herd of sheep and goats meant that he was out and about, and he quickly befriended a small family of marsupial dragons by sharing his lunches with them.

He was about sixteen when a local dragonologist found him bribing a small mob of dragons from bothering his sheep with several partridges and a half a ham sandwich. After a brief lecture on the dangers of getting dragons too familiar with human company, he was offered a chance to study under the dragonologist. Despite his mother’s misgivings, Cathal accepted as much for the chance for adventure as to keep playing with dragons.

Surprising everyone, even himself, Cathal’s apprenticeship went very well, and he turned out to have a reasonably good head for book learning alongside the field work. Though still young, he’s been working more or less on his own for the past few years, and has gained a reputation as being someone you want on an expedition if you want to have amicable relations with any Marsupial dragons your team might meet, as he seems to be on good standing with most of them.

Personality: Cathal's very cheerful and outgoing and optimistic. He's not afraid of much, and impulsive, which leads to him doing a lot of stupid things. He's dauntless and flexible, and incredibly good at adapting to situations. Due to his upbeat demeanor and his penchant to make bad decisions, people tend to think he's not very bright. Anyone who knows him well knows that he's actually very clever, and picks up new information and skills quickly. The big problem is that he's usually clever enough to get himself into trouble, but not clever enough to get himself out of it. Or, worse, not clever enough to realize he's in trouble until his only options of getting out are fighting or running away screaming. He moves fast, in both plans and actions and doesn't think them all the way through; he writes checks with his mouth he can't cash and is just good enough in a pinch to make the other guy wish he hadn't took him for a sucker. Though, if he says "you should have seen the other guy," chances are the other guy won.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ wilderness survival
+ fighting
+ friendly
- planning
- easily emotional compromised by small and cute animals/creatues
- organization

Other: Cathal also works as a messenger/courier, carrying news, letters, and other things around his corner of New South Wales. He’s not in Sydney often, but when he is, he almost always finds himself in a bare knuckle match or two.

Name: Jayne Augusta Catherine Crawford
Age: 21
Nationality: British
Region/Specialty: African (and some Middle-Eastern) dragons. Expert and conservationist of the African Wyvern. Amateur dragon rehabilitator.
Appearance:

(Jayne stands at about 5'6" and has a slim build. She has warm black hair, almost brownish in certain lights, and keeps it up for functionality and style. Her eyes are a striking amber and her skin is lightly tanned from days in the field. Her common attire consists of darkly colored Victorian dresses (made of wool), a stylish hat, and her handbag.

History: As the daughter of the spice tycoon, Richard Crawford, Jayne has been travelling around the British colonies since she was a little girl. It was on one of these expeditions that she spotted her first dragon, an African Wyvern, and came in contact with the field of Dragonology. From then on It became her passion to study and document the various species found along the African Coast and surrounding areas as she traveled with her father. While he dealt with his plantations, she went out in search of dragons. At first her dear father was opposed to the idea of his only daughter chasing down dangerous beasts, but after a fateful meeting with the esteemed Earnest Drake, he changed his mind.

Free to pursue her passion, Jayne received a mentorship in Dragonology for a year in England, before returning to the African colonies in order to continue her research on the African Wyvern. However, she soon discovered that the species she so loved was in danger. At this point the ivory trade had grown exponentially and as a result the populations were suffering, almost being wiped out completely along the coasts. As a result, she saw a decline in wyvern populations. As their prey decreased, they were forced further inland or worse, having to prey on the livestock of the colonies. Fearing for the species, Jayne began writing reports on the threat of the ivory trade to the African Wyvern, even going so far as to publish a book.

In particular she followed a female wyvern whose nest was located within a heavily hunted area. The poor beast was forced to fly extraordinary distances just to feed, unable to migrate to better territory due to her egg. Unfortunately after several months the entire elephant population was eradicated and the female was forced to raid local farms, ultimately resulting in her death as she was hunted down and her parts sold to foreign buyers. To keep the egg out of the poacher's hands, Jayne took it and carefully continued the incubation process. She was absolutely delighted when it hatched (she named him Zabi) but had little knowledge in the field of raising dragons besides a few books. So she wrote to the S.A.S.D. for guidance and traveled to London to receive training. She was in the process of this training when she was contacted by Earnest Drake himself and sent to South America.

Personality: Jayne is the sort of woman who does not take no for an answer. She is determined, and once she has committed to something there are few powers on heaven and earth that can stop her. She's got a sharp mind and a sharp tongue to match it and often can get a little feisty when she sees injustice. Still, she has a soft heart even if she tries to pretend otherwise and sticks to her morals.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Drawing of diagrams and maps
+Basic human medical knowledge
+Dragon care-taking
+Rich
-Can be intimidating
-Physically weak
-Proud
-Taking care of a wyvern hatchling.

Other:
Zabi: A male African Wyvern hatching that is about 1 year old. He is roughly the size of an adult cat and despite his large wings, cannot fly yet. His scales are a greenish-brown, with the webbing of his wings and belly scales being a lighter green hue. He is rather friendly, though weary of new people (particularly men). However he warms up quickly, especially when offered food. His favourite meals include fish, beef and pork, however he will not eat salmon.

Name: Izabell d'Aragne
Age: 25
Nationality: Italian
Specialty: Naturalist | Cryptozoology
Focus: mythological creatures and folklore || Humming Dragons | Incognito Dragon | Asian Dragons and their kin| Phoenixes
Appearance: dark curling brown hair, dove gray eyes with a hint of blue at times, medium height, average figure
589390
History: Born to a moderately wealthy aristocratic family in Capua, Italy, she always had aspirations to be more than just another pretty face. Inspired by her late father who was a herpetologist, she desired to study science. Despite her mother's protests and the shocked gasps of higher ladies of society, Izabell started her career as a naturalist, curious about all things in nature. After studying wind currents, she came across her first dragon and from then on was fascinated by the creatures. Between her time as a dragonologist and a naturalist, she studied mythical creatures as a cryptozoologist. Finally gaining the credibility to accompany an up-and-rising dragonologist on his adventures, Izabell enjoyed her adventures (and misadventures) very much, allowing her curiosity and sharp intellect to guide her. Utilizing her already strengthened observational skills and knowledge about the natural sciences, Izabell began her career studying Humming Dragons and suggested improvements on how they can be used to light fires without burning one's own clothes. After contributing a great deal to safer dragon handling practices, she ventured forth to larger subjects: asian dragons.

This second part of her career really helped her to get her name out there. Although the papers were beginning to draw attention to this brilliant young dragonologist, the Italian-born intellectual was not finished. On her travels in asia, she found the scale of the never-before-seen Incognito dragon and managed to preserve this unique specimen and return it to better-equipped laboratories for further study. She began her comprehensive An Eastern Tail: The Complete Observations of Asian Dragons with the study of Chinese Long. After several years, she completed her study of the Chinese Long and briefly studied the much scarcer Indonesian variety before turning her attentions to the Korean Yong. Just as she finished her chapters on the Yong and was on her way to Japan to study the Ryu did she receive her old colleague and mentor's urgent missive with the summons to the New World. Understanding the importance of these artifacts, she abandoned her trip to Japan (albeit not without some hesitancy) to catch a flight to California eager to see an old friend again.
Personality: Izabell is eager, curious and frank with her colleagues, friends, and strangers alike. With her sharp wit and sharper tongue, she has traversed the world in search of knowledge to sate her intellectual curiosity. She does have a caring heart beneath all her verbosity and pedagogy, although it can take a while to spot it. She has always had a flair for the exotic and been known as an eccentric (a young lady gallavanting around the globe in search of fire-breathing lizards?! preposterous!) especially among her mother's friends for years.
Strengths: travel, elocution, science
Weaknesses: seasickness, remembering names and details of people (although she can recall the latin names of the formerly known and discovered dragons with ease)
