How To: Creating Character​

Dossier​

Race/Nationality: You are not limited to playing Japanese, though you can't choose to be an enemy alien (American, English, French, etc.) As long as it makes sense for the character to be in Japan during this time period and not be interned in concentration camp, you can play them. Just run it through me if you're unsure.
DOB: Your character date of birth. Replace the 〇 with the date. 〇〇〇〇年〇〇月〇〇日 (It is YYYY/MM/DD)
POB: Your character's place of birth. Usually a city/town/village in some prefecture somewhere.
Blood type: Your character's blood type. Not sure why this is here, maybe because the Japanese consider blood type to be related to someone's personality. *wink* *wink*
DOE: Date of enrollment, already filled it out for you.
Height: Please write this in metric.
Organization: The character can join the Student Council and club diegetically.

Description​

A brief description of your character. Just write something that other characters might perceive of the character when they're taking a glance at them. How's their outward appearance and demeanor? Don't write something that the character keeps to themselves; that's your job as the player to portray such things during the roleplay.

Statistics​

Strength (STR): This stat represents your character's physical ability and well-being. A character with high Strength are physically healthy and strong.
Dexterity (DEX): A character with high Dexterity are nimble, graceful, silent and has good hand-eye coordination
Willpower (WIL): This stat represents your character's mental well-being. This one is perhaps the most important stat out of all three. A failure roll on WIL check causes it to drop by 1 point.

If the value of STR and/or WIL stats ever reaches zero, it means your character no longer has the power or the will to continue, you must conclude their story and make a new character.

Here's the process to generate the character stats:
1. Roll three four-sided dice (3d4).
2. If any of the results match, decrease the value if possible; otherwise, increase it.
3. The maximum value for any stat cannot exceed 4. If you roll multiple 4s, you can't increase—only decrease.
4. For example, if you roll 2, 2, 1:
- There are two matching values (2).
- Since you can't decrease it (due to the 1), increase one of the 2s to 3.
- You end up with 3, 2, 1.
5. Finally, add 1 to each of those values, and then freely assign them to any of the three stats.

  No one could call Oyuki Haruomi a blessed or lucky woman. Even before war broke out, she led a life most people would call dissolute. Never working an honest day, she spent it in a haze of drink and gambling, supported by the gentlemen callers she entertained during the time when she was young enough for that to be an appealing prospect. Invariably, this would lead to her being with child of unknown parentage, an additional misfortune befalling her that could only get worse when she was born with an atrophied leg. She named the child Tsuki, the smallest decency she could give to the baby before she returned to her usual life, now justified by the fact that she had two mouths to feed.
  
  So Tsuki rarely lacked for at least the bare minimum, and she grew well, though her right leg always a little less than her left. It's enough that she needed to walk with a crutch for anything other than the shortest distances to avoid undue strain on her ankle and knee. Some adults were even of the opinion that if not for her leg, Tsuki would make a great athlete, with a build that (shall we say) emphasizes strength over agility.
  
  Eventually, the war began. Many industries suffered, but most of all the kind Oyuki was involved in. When younger men went to war, there were far lesser willing to throw money around, and even older men had to tighten their belts. Just when it seemed like Oyuki was fated to a life working in a factory, an European businessman came into her life. He had been doing business in Japan for several years, and the way the wind was blowing, the homefront would no longer be safe, and his company viewed their interests in Japan as increasingly untenable. He offered Oyuki to leave with him, and she jumped at the chance for a new life with a wealthy man overseas. Without any baggage.
  
  And so it was that Tsuki was packed up, crutch and all, and all but dumped at Yurigaoka. Concerns about her mental state and the building's ability to accommodate her mobility needs kept her from being enrolled formally over the time period of a year, though she was allowed to stay in the dormitories and assist in chores. Eventually, an argument from one of the teachers teaching a third-year class persuaded the principal and faculty (mostly on the matter that it would be irresponsible to allow a schooling-age girl to work at their school without first going through the program properly). And so Tsuki was allowed to join the next first-year class, coming in as part of the evacuation order.
  
  Tsuki, for her part, has a caring and supportive side to her that she deliberately projects, as if wanting to be the opposite of what Oyuki was. In part, perhaps this is due to her self-consciousness at being older than her supposed peers. She is well-read, particularly enjoying literature and academia from overseas (and dreams of traveling to settle elsewhere like Oyuki did), though she is unlikely to prove exceptional in her own studies. Another interest of hers is fishing: she would enjoy a different sport that also takes her outdoors, but her condition complicates that.

  Short, unassuming, polite and old-fashioned; this girl would probably look a lot more elegant if her glasses fit on her face, rather than falling off at the slightest disturbance. Kariko has always been of a fragile and thin disposition, and her upbringing by a wealthy family at the heart of Kyōto has shaped her into a shadow of the soon-to-be extinct, old nobility. She doesn't follow imported customs and her grace comes solely from her innocence, the sort that would be considered barbaric by the modern elites if it came from anyone of lesser status. She speaks little and doesn't express even the greatest indignation, though such indignation ignites with surprising ease.
  
  Most of her time is spent with her gaze pointed upwards, finding poetry in the fluttering clouds. Flighty and easily distracted, she can be spotted during free hours underneath the shade of the canopy, humming half-remembered songs until she grows tired of the melody. It might be surprising given her facets and position in society, but the hymns that escape her lips oft belong to the Imperial Japanese Army.

Music is how she truly expresses herself, otherwise a lot of her more sensitive emotions are kept well hidden.   If you were to ask, most of her peers would describe Honami as an odd girl. With her taller-than-average height and unsociable demeanor, nearly all of those her age would steer clear of her path to spare their own reputation and image. Her mere presence can be off-putting for others and even intimidating at times. She's eerily silent, never uttering a word to anyone unless she absolutely has to. A few adults have found this behavior concerning, but none could really reason why she acted as she did.
  
  Virtually, no one knows anything about her. There are times she'd disappear without trace only to come back like she had never even left in the first place. It would seem like she didn't have any friends or acquaintances to interact with either, but she'd sometimes be heard talking about a mysterious figure named Robin. Adults would excuse this individual as just an imaginary friend, even if it was odd that someone her age would still have them. It wasn't as if Honami refuted their assumptions either.

  Akemi was a kind and hardworking young teacher who was equally loved and respected by the students and fellow teachers alike. Her approachable demeanor made it so that it wasn't uncommon for students to confide some personal matters directly to her. However, that wasn't the only reason why so many students trusted her, for she had one rare trait uncommon among Yurigaoka's teachers, which was that she was not part of the clergy and that she didn't seem to have taken baptism as well. Therefore, she would be the last person to give religious sermons about any worldly, and often religiously taboo problems the students might have.
  
  On one faithful day last year, a woman by the name of Haruomi Oyuki came to the academy with her daughter, Tsuki, in tow. The woman begged the academy to take her in; she cried and confessed that she was unable to provide for her properly and couldn't bear to see her already disabled daughter live an even more difficult life. The faculty board, of course, refused. While the war brought many changes to the academy, many, especially among the PTA, still cling to the pretigious pre-war reputation the academy once held and that simply accepting a student into a charity would "set a bad example" that would be replicated by many others in the future. Akemi, who at the time was around to hear the conversation, proposed that she would take in the girl personally. She doesn't have the means to enroll Tsuki as a student, but at least she could let her have a roof to sleep on.
  
  And so, Akemi lied to Tsuki, saying that the academy staff would need some time to work on new safety protocol to accommodate her as a student due to her special circumstances, and in the meantime, Tsuki would live together in the same dorm room with Akemi, and she could help around the dormitory and receive some allowance, which was actually directly taken from Akemi's own personal salary.
  
  When the news came on October 15, 1943, that the government was planning to evacuate non-essential citizens from the big cities and that Yurigaoka was chosen as one of the evacuation zones, Akemi worked tirelessly to get Tsuki recommended as one of the evacuees to Yurigaoka.

  On the one hand, Fumiyo is an independent and mature girl, but on the other hand, she is still childish and has yet to fully accept the fact that she has grown to become a teenager.

  A noticeably timid and sensitive girl, Shiho is usually the first to succumb to tears in times of conflict. She often relies on others around her and is known for being rather clingy at times. Once she’s formed a bond with someone, she isn’t one to let go so easily and will do just about anything to keep herself by their side. Still growing and having yet to mature, at times she acts younger than she is, with her chosen hairstyle of pigtails only adding to the image. A bit sheltered, certain topics often go over her head.

  An ambitious and carefree student, Homura is often seen loitering around classrooms and spaces she isn't supposed to be in. Due to her tall figure, it's easy to spot her, often causing her to get in trouble. However, she always has a strange way of getting herself out of trouble, even if it means running away when a teacher's back is turned to her.
  
  She is the loud type, often taking up the most space in the room, making sure she's comfortable before anyone else. Although constantly getting teased ( and in trouble ) for her actions, Homura has no intention of stopping. She cares very little for her personal reputation and merely shrugs off any bad-mouthing she receives. However, this attitude quickly changes when she sees someone else getting unfairly treated. She is quick to jump in to defend someone, her harsh words usually scaring off any negative attention.

  Yoshitake Kitazono was born on 24 November, 1917, in the Juzen Hospital in Yokohama, Japan. His childhood home was located near the Tokorozawa Army Air Base, which also served as the Tokorozawa Army Flying School. Growing up in such close proximity to this hub of aviation activity, Yoshitake's fascination with aircraft began at an early age. He spent countless hours watching planes take off and land, dreaming of the day he could soar through the skies.
  
  Yoshitake's father was a mechanic at the air base, which allowed young Yoshitake to gain a hands-on appreciation for the machines that fueled his dreams, learning about the intricacies of aircraft and developing a deep respect for the men who flew them, as a child he would sometimes sneak into the airbase for fun and get closer look at the aircraft, much to the amusement of the base personnel. In 1926, he made a brief acquaintance with Kato Tateo, pilot cadet at Tokorozawa at that time and later an ace pilot made famed by the 1944 movie "Kato Hayabusa sento-tai".
  
  In 1931, when Yoshitake was 14, Mukden Incident broke out and the subsequent invasion of Manchuria marked the beginning of Japan's aggressive military actions in Asia. Yoshitake, influenced by the nationalistic fervor and his own personal experiences, he felt a strong sense of duty to serve his country, so he enlisted to the army in 1934.
  
  In Feburary 1935, Yoshitake was accepted into the Tokorozawa Army Flying School when he was 18 as an Army Junior Pilot Cadet (陸軍少年飛行兵, a flying course for enlisted NCO in the IJA). The class moved to the newly established Kumagaya Army Flying School in October 1935, and he graduated there in November 1936, before entering fighter pilot school at Akeno Army Flying School northeast of Ise, Mie.
  
  Upon earning his wings, Yoshitake was assigned to the 1st Hiko Sentai (Flying Regiment) stationed in Kakamigahara, Gifu Prefecture, before the total outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937. Personnel chosen from the 1st Sentai, including Yoshitake, were tranferred to Manchuria where they would formed the new 59th Hiko Sentai in 1938. Yoshitake saw his first aerial engagement over Hankow Airfield in China, during his time in China he shot down 2 I-16 aircraft of the ROC air force.
  
  After the outbreak of the Pacific War, the 59th Sentai was assembled at Kampong Trach, French Cambodia, to support the Japanese forces landing in Malaya, Yoshitake would once again meet Kato Tateo, by then already a Major and commander of the 64th Sentai, which also took part in the operation, during the time both the 59th and 64th falls under Major Kato's command.
  
  Participated in the Singapore offensive, the Palembang invasion and the Java offensive, shooting down dozens of Allied aircraft, the subsequent Allied counter-offensive proved to be an extremely hard-fought battle in the New Guinea front, almost all of the 59th Sentai's strength was depleted, the regiment was withdrawn to Japan in February 1944 for regrouping and was assigned homeland air defence duties. After years of fighting overseas, Yoshitake was finally able to come home again, just as the war continued to turn against Japan's favour. In April 1944, he was reassigned from 59th Sentai to be a flight instructor at the Kodama Airbase, where a branch school of the Kumagaya Army Flying School was located. He would also fly in the defense of Tokyo.

  Kazuyo Akiyama (née Nakamura) was born in Matsuyama, the capital city of Ehime Prefecture. Growing up, she had a childhood friend called Shoji Akiyama, the son of a local shopkeeper and a distant relative of Yoshifuru Akiyama, the legendary calvary general during Russo-Japanese War. Shoji would eventually became her fiancé. In 1930, Shoji graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy, and was assigned to 43rd Infantry Regiment, 11th Infantry Division, based in the town of Zentsuji in Kagawa, Shikoku.
  
  Their love was tragically cut short when Shoji was killed in action during the Shanghai Incident in 1932, just a month before their scheduled wedding. Devastated but determined to honor his memory, Kazuyo went to court two months after Shoji's death to have their marriage recognized posthumously.

  Aiko Nakamura was born in 1919 in a quaint rural village in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Her early childhood was marked by the idyllic beauty of lush landscapes and the close-knit community of her hometown and she hated all that, all that simple life and hard work resulted in boredom. When Aiko was just 13 years old, she ran away from home, abandoning her family, rejecting her traditions and went to Tokyo where she started to work in small jobs, usually cooking, cleaning and sewing for theater companies, slowly becoming a recognised cabaret actress/singer in the Red District under the stage name "Mai Sakurai". Mai Sakurai was known for her rebellious nature, unique sensuality and open bisexuality, often incorporating themes that became taboo under Japan’s strict military and ultranationalist government. Her daring performances, unorthodox approach and glamorous lifestyle set her apart in the entertainment industry, making her a notable, albeit controversial, figure.
  
  As the war dragged on during an air raid, which later would be known as the Doolittle raid, she was injured leaving her with several psychological and physical scars, particularly, a permanent limp, forcing her to abandon her career. The severity of her wounds, the misfortune of being one of the relatively few victims of this attack made her reflect about her life decisions, feeling this misfortune was a sort of karma for abandoning her family and traditions. During the time she had to spent at a hospital devoured the little money Aiko was able to save up during her time as Mai sakurai (mostly due to her wasteful and expensive lifestyle) which further motivated her to change her life.
  
  With the entertainment industry in shambles and her injury limiting her opportunities, Aiko decided to return to Gunma Prefecture. Embracing her original identity, Aiko Nakamura, she sought to rebuild her life, she eventually spent quite some time helping around with the women of the Tonarigumi (Neighborhood Association). With her prior work experience, she quickly gained the trust and respect of the women of her hometown (who didn't suspect about her infamous past as Mai sakurai). One day, on the behalf of the association, she went up the mount Akagi to teach the students how to sew a monpe or air raid hood, introducing a new recipe to better make use of the allocated rations and perhaps to expiate the sins of her past. Since then, she got acquainted with both the students and the teachers of Yurigaoka, and one day she got a job offer to be Home Economic teacher there.
