One x One Diamond in the Rough - Characters & NPCs

Main

Castle/recurring NPCs
Members of the small council and their families
Lord Venclas Exteberria, royal steward and one of the late king's most trusted men. Lord Exteberria is an aging man with grey hair and a moustache that seems to change its fashion at least monthly, but, from Anselm's limited experience, reasonable and true to his word - if sometimes stubborn. He has a wife by the name of Florine.

Duke Kiedebeer Amand, the kingdom's chancellor tasked with overseeing most administrative and diplomatic affairs and head of the parliament. A middle-aged man who liked to throw the weight of his old lineage and connections around, but leaves the actual tasks (especially the paperwork) to his wife Lorentien, his presence in the council serves mostly to appease his sensibilites and thus keep the court free of further commotion. Lady Lorentien's attendance, of course, has a practical purpose.

Lord Naveid Deborgil rose to the position of general through his military accomplishments, even though the kingdom had enjoyed a long time of peace with no outright wars. His charisma at the very least makes him a well-respected leader. He is married to a noblewoman named Nasmi.

Duchess Iardhenna Synemaer, whose headstrong presence and prudent spending habits had paved the road for her to become treasurer. It is easy enough to stay on her good side as long as you do not try to empty the royal coffers one way or the other. The saying is that her husband Weltar is one of the richest and poorest men in the realm at the same time, as she watches like a hawk over every coin he tries to spend.

Lord Rogelio Topez, the second son of some other, higher-ranking noble, possesses a streak of cunning and resourcefulness that makes him a great asset to the council and, quite frankly, a possible threat if he ever chose to cut ties with the monarchy. Lord Topez was officially employed as strategist for the army, but during this period of peace, he serves as an advisor for any instance that needs one. His wife Phinesh is a foreign lady he married for diplomatic reasons, and supposedly she is distantly related to the royal family of one of the kingdom's neighboring countries.

Recurring NPCs
Annalis, Jordasche's maid, also called Anna for short.

Teniriver - city and NPCs
- City:

Teniriver is a walled city of several thousand people around a section of the river of the same name. It has achieved local fame for its masonry and having the largest and most reliable hospital for a few dozen miles around. The mayor's mansion, which doubles as the city hall, is also called the Chateau for its resemblance to a small, fancy castle.

Aside from the city center with the Chateau as its landmark and the market quarter, there are two more named sections of the city: The Scholar's District, which features the Atropa Scriptorium and Hospital, and the Archstone Borough, with the Theatre of Silence (a performance hall focusing on pantomime) as its main attraction.

- NPCs:

Viscount Fedelmar Donla, mayor of Teniriver. He is aware that his family isn't particularly important as far as nobles go, and feels a little intimidated by interactions with his social betters. His wife Davney is more relaxed in that regard. They have three children: Wislaw, Edita and Oliver. Wislaw (around Jordasche's age) is well-meaning and jovial, but also impulsive and gets flustered easily. Edita (a few years younger than Jordasche) is likewise energetic, but more level-headed than her brother. Oliver (about 12 years old) is the quietest of the three; he doesn't feel at ease in larger groups of people and would rather read a book in his room.

Larwin, the head servant of the Donla family. He is reliable and competent, but cold, stern and conservative. Rumor has it that he hasn't smiled once in the twenty or so years he has been employed at the Chateau.
