Dark Hearted- (closed)

Rhode130

I am the brightside ;)
In high-school the whole world turns into a battlefield; a war zone of questions never asked, feelings not understood and desires pushed away. In a world where humans are legend and creatures rule the perpetual dusk it is even worse.

When three childhood friends realize their bonds to each other are covered with love and desire they are all thrust into an uncertain future. One with both friend an enemy at every corner.

They must face the reactions of family, friends and the town they have grown up in, but something far worse is coming. The different species are to never mix and there are some who will kill to keep it that way.

Everyone is a supernatural being, though only a select few have strong enough blood to claim their birth rights, such as :

Magic, changing form, or seeing the future.

The town of Gravesdrove was in the middle of a chilly winter day, snow fell from the sky in gentle waves, making the usually dark town pale and luminecent. The gothic architecture shown through the snow just enough to bring to mind the victorian towns of old. With dark buildings and grey cobble-stone raods. The tall street lamps remained burning bright as a cautionary measure through the day.

People moved about in lazy groups, all having some place to be and someone to see. The day is reaching its climax; the bells are ringing and the students that attend the Gravesdrove highschool are filing out of the grounds in droves. All chattering and laughing; making plans for the weekend and assuring friends that the next two days belong to them. Amoung them is a girl. Annabeth.

Quieter than the rest, she moves silently over the snow, her black ankle length boots making no sound as she glides with gentle grace away from the groups of her peers. She is not going to town, instead she moves in the opposite direction, her long dark hair swinging behind her.

She will be going home and once there she will wait. There are two people who will find her before dark, two people she loves more than any other. Her best friends. The boogyman Lacey and the lycan Evangeline. An odd trio they make, but closer knit than most will ever be. They share the closeness of a wolf pack, and the love of a family. Thinking of them brings her joy, yet also a tug of guilt. She knows their every secret yet they do not know her most dark one.

Annabeth does not remember when her heart began to pound at the sight of Lacey's tall figure, but she does know when her breath began to catch at the slightest touch from her wolf friend . She knows she has been in love with both of them for five years. She knows she must never tell them. Interspeices romances are forbidden and she never wants to loose them. Sighing, the witch pushes open the large gate that stands before her home.

The house is tall and thin, black paint and deep violet shingles on the roof give it a mysterious air. She smiles and runs her hands over every black flower that srings up to meet her as she makes her way through the garden to her front door. She lets the bad thoughts leave her mind and instead focuses on her excitment. In just a little while her friends will be here and for two days they will be hers.

Lacey doesn't give much thought to the other teenagers moving around him; he finds most of them extremely annoying and worth very little of his time. He will not deny that he uses his considerable height and ability to frighten others to his advantage, he gets through the crowd far quicker than he normally would. Usually he would not resort to using his gifts but today is Friday, and like every Friday Lacey has somewhere very important to be.

The boogyman doesn't feel the cold that blankets his birthplace, being that the skin he is wearing is mearly a protective measure against strong light. Being a creature created from darkness makes his true skin far to sensitive for his liking. Had he known it was going to be so cloudy he wouldn't have bothered. The false skin rubs him the wrong way. Upon finding a rather dark alley he quickly slides into the dark and mumbles the short incantation to remove the skin; it takes him longer than he will admit.

When he emerges he is far lighter and very much darker. His skin is now pale Greg and thick black veins wind from his hands to his elbows. His eyes have taken a yellow sheen and his teeth are no longer blunt. He shoves the skin away in his bag and resumes his walk. The house he is going to belongs to one of his most dear people, once there his other precious person will also be found. He reaches the gate that surrounds the witch's home he walks right through it, his form flashing coal black for a moment. He avoids the flowers along the path and invites himself into the house he knows as well as his own.

"excuse meh!" Evangeline tried to interject two jocks standing in her way, they continued to block the hall, she would sigh and wait as usual but she had some place to be today " Ah said EXCUSE MEH!" she yelled, still nothing.

She clutched her shoulder bag and walked up to the gathered crowd tapping one of them on the shoulder " Please.. Ah would like ta get through" still the jock shrugged her off so she tried again " look Ah'm sorry ta interrupt but Ah would like ta get through please" the jocks turned to face her, she knew that the heat she felt was all focused on her cheeks

"what were you saying freak?" one of them jeered

oh if ya only knew She thought to herself " Ah was askin' ta get through please" she tried again

"Go around" the other pushed her slightly

"Ah'm sorry... but ya really should not have done that" she politely smiled, though inside her head she was starting to get hazy " Now.. please move"

Evangeline was a born lycanthrope what some that were uneducated would commonly call a werewolf, yes those things out of horror stories, the big bad wolf, the freaks of nature now while she did not stalk nubile college students in the woods, blow down houses or eat children in red hoods she did consider her curse exactly that, a curse, her mother had told her many a time it was a gift she did not think it was and only confided in two very special people that she herself was one, she had met Annabeth when they were young at a music lesson, she had always seemed like a darling and well her other best friend Lacey well we will just say he was the first boy she had in her room... no not in that way.. he was gifted like Both herself and Annabeth, his gift was a little less easier to hide. yet here she was trying desperately to get out of school so she could see them there was a pull of some kind towards them both , she needed to be around them.

"Ah am startin' ta think ya jist hard of hearin' " she looked up at the jock as her eyes flared "or y'all jist fixin' fir a fight"

"Oh look at the sweet little southern belle trying to be tough" the other jock laughed pushing her backwards again "come on then... what ya going to do.. yeah nothing exactly"

it was true, while her parents were still together they lived just shy of Arlington, TN and had moved to Gravesdrove when her father disappeared but things had changed just cause her dark half had manifested didnt' mean she had to embrace that primal side , she was still that sweet southern belle wasn't she ?

"Ah will ask once more.... move" she snarled slightly her canine teeth elongating barely

the jock's eyes grew wide " Okay okay gees was only playing"

as she past she smiled and whispered to him " next time... Ah'll rip ya throat out"

The house is alive inside with various people moving about the house. each one having the same basic features as Annabeth, marking their relation. Her mother, a tall, plump witch with long black hair and big brown eyes stands in the kitchen chopping herbs and tossing them in a medium sized cauldron, various bottles surrounding her, each full of a different liquid. She greets Lacey happily, plucking a hair from his head and tossing it in the potion she is crafting.

"Thank you dear, it's so good to see you." she smiles and motions to the tall thin door leading to the attic stairs, "Anna is in her room, practicing her spells." she pats his cheek and moves away, dodging her husband when his hulking form enters the kitchen. Annabeth's father nods to Lacey and turns his attention to his wife.

Meanwhile, inside of her room, Annabeth is sitting at her large black vanity table; various herbs and candles before her. She hums and chops the herbs calmly, pausing at times to reference the large tome at her side. The book is her family grimoire, the aged pages filled with the spells and knowledge of her ancestors. Today she is trying to master a spell that reveals hidden desire. Her mother mastered it when she was only 12, yet Annabeth, at 17 still fails to make it work. In fact the last one had turned her brother into a bat for a week. She sighs softly as she adds her ingredients to a small bowl before her.

Upon getting out of sight of the school she briskly jogs down the alley way a bit and checks noone is around , putting her satchel bag down she quickly strips off her school uniform she adjusts the strap tightly once she has stowed her uniform in her bag.

Eve whimpers as her body shifts, it hurt her so much to change, it was the tail that hurt the most a stabbing pain shooting out around her hips s it tore it's way through her body falling to her knees she covered her mouth as her knees snapped backwards, her mind going completely blank after that moment, the pain obviously too much for her to take, the rest of the changes happen automatically and soon she stands up a young wolf, with dark red fur, if she had black paws and a white tip to her tail she may be confused with a fox

Right off to Annabeth's

pushing her muzzle under the strap of her bag and wriggles so it sits around her neck, she slowly pads out of the ally and then starts into a run all the way, with every single paw-step forward she was getting excited getting to the gate she yips excitedly as she wriggles under the gate and then pulls her bag under with her teeth

Ms. Lenora needs to rise the gate a bit

up the steps she runs and yips again this time loudly and scratches at the door to be let in

Lacey smiles and greets both elder witches before going in the direction of Annabeths room. Before he reaches it though he hears the familiar scratching at the door. He chuckles and moves over quickly, blending into the shadows, he opens the door for the wolf like creature outside. He kneels down and runs a cold hand over her side.

"Hey, bout time you got here." He moves away, shutting the door and walking with her to the door that holds their best friend. "Her mom said she's working on her spells again. " Lacey pushes open the door and let's her go first before once more blending into the shadows and going up the walls.

When he spies Annabeth he moves behind her and peers over her shoulder, "miss us?"

Annabeth jumps slightly when she feels the chill against her back, though she knows who it is immediately and her back relaxes quickly. She smiles and turns to her friends, hearing the clicking of Evangeline's claws on the hard floor. "Of course I did." Annabeth tosses her arms around Lacey, hugging him tightly, before kneeling and dropping a light kiss on Evangeline's furry head.

"Did you both have a good day? I haven't seen either of you in days." she can't stop the slight tinge of sadness she knows enters her voice as she looks at them, but she missed them both so much; it felt so dark when she didn't have them around. She loved them both so much. Annabeth sits back in her spot and keeps carving her intent into her candles as she waits for them to tell her about their days. They always take turns and she keeps an ear out for Evangeline's southern twang or Lacey's deep echo. The red candle in her hand, glows lightly under her touch, the long sharp wire she is carving with heated to melt her incantation into the thick wax easily.

Yips happily in greetings and then pushes the door open with her nose and hurries to the bathroom to get changed after much yelping and whimpers she comes back into the room a little while later smoothing out her dress as she does so and goes over to the Mirror to fix her hair for some reason she didn't wish to truly admit to herself she wanted to look her best for the two of them and she hated the fact she was not perfect all because she didn't want to be stopped and she shifted

"Sorry about that, uh taday was impossible.. ah swear ta gawd those football players.. UGH" she walks over after she was happy that she looked by her standards 'alright'

she wrapped her arms around Lacey and made the Kiss kiss gesture that so often was seen by teens nowadays it was a easy way of expressing herself yet no fear of rejection or prejudice. her lashes fluttered as she pulled away, so did deep down in her heart there was a flutter too

"What on earth are ya doin' suga?" she paused a moment in her tale of her day as she stood behind Annabeth and embraced her warmly resting her head on her shoulder affectionately watching what she was doing with the candle

"I am carving my runes into the ritual candles I need for my desire spell. This one is your name." She picks up a thick green taper candle carved with delicate runes. "And this one is Lacey's" she wiggles the red one now adorned with blocky rough runes. "I already made ones for my mom and dad. " Anna beth sets the red candle down and lifts a deep purple one, "this one will be mine."

She smiles happily and begins craving once more listening for the rest of her story, her fingers play over the wax as she carves the runes she knows so well, her long nail scraping the excess wax away. The candle light sparkles against her pale skin and deeply colored eyes. This is the only time she feels beautiful, when surrounded by her craft and her two dear ones.

"Desire?..." She giggles slightly uncomfortable " what? ya fixin' ta make us fall madly , deeply in love " she pretended to swoon.

Evie always did have a flair with the dramatics but fell very quiet after having said that her eyes dimmed partially wishing it could be true.

Annabeth smelt soo beautiful she could nto help but brea her in as she had nuzzled her, it made her head swim with thoughts

If only they knew

she looked to Lacey with a sad little smirk. he had been quiet which was not unusual but she always wondered what he was thinking, she had lways admired him though best friends she held herself back a bit from fear she may do something wrong and spoil what she had

Lacey smiles at them both, feeling the warm and welcome weight of Evie's gaze on him. She always did that, watching him when he didn't talk, like she wanted to lay his mind out and rove over it like a map. Knowing every dark corner and twisted curve. Lacey hums and drifts to one side, watching Annabeth carve.

"But we all already love each other so much." he mumbles softly, masking what would be a confession with echoing laughter, his dark hair sticking up as he runs a hand through it. "What could be better than what we have now?" He knows the answer, but the only time he indulges the idea is when he is hidden in the dark, free from the judging of others. He is well aware that being in love with two women makes him some sort of a pervert or something. Not to mention that the idea of a boogyman loving anything or anyone is laughable. They are cold creatures, made from fear and shadow. Yet here he is, in love with a witch and a lycan.

Annabeth keeps her eyes down, biting her lip until she can taste the metallic flavor of her blood hitting her soft tongue. She fights down the urge to toss the candle down and shout out just how much better it could be. They could be together, she could touch them, kiss them, love them. They could be something even more beautiful.

Instead she stays quiet as she finishes the purple candle and bathes each candle in thick oils. When she is done she takes a deep breath and looks at her friends. Her green eyes sparkling with excitement and something unsure.

"Ready?"

her hearing enhanced by her heritage she can hear clearly what was said by Lacey, she just blushes and pretends that she didn't

well you can't say that ya ain't peeked when ya come in my room at night she thinks and then thinks some more on it, it gave her tingles in many places some where she would never admit.

Evie Sniffs the air smelling blood, she looks concerned snapping out of the trance she was in

"Huh?... oh.. um... well maybe we shouldn't be messin' with things like that.. ya know.. fixin' ta get inta trouble and what not"

her eyes darted from one to the other she was clearly very scared that they might find out that she was such a love struck puppy

seeing the two of them looking at her she blushes again " Like what ...what if we find things out that... well change things ?" she looks down " ah jist.. ah.... ah cain't lose y'all, ya know ?" biting her lip hard she almost draws blood "Okay fine... let's do it" she sighs and walks over

Lacey is ready to fade into the shadows but the thought of the girls thinking he has something to hide makes his chest ache deep inside, he estimates that the pain is radiating from the place his heart would be...if he had one. Giving a deep sigh the tall boogyman nods and folds his long legs under himself, perching next to Annabeth and lifting the candle that she made for him, "What could possibly happen Evie? Don't we all already know everything about each other...?" he tosses her a look, his smile not as confident as it normally is, "Unless you have fleas you've been hiding or something. " he moves his eyes back to the candle he holds and goes quiet, his eyes growing distant.

If they find out about his feelings they will hate him, they will feel awkward and any sense of comfort they ever felt with him will fade as easily as he does. Even so, the fleeting thought of having the weight come off of his chest is almost worth it.

looks horrified " Ah ain't got Fleas !!!!" she sulks as she takes her candle " yeah ah'm in.. let's do this... " her eyes flare with conviction

Annabeth nods looking serious as she hands Evie her candle and stands the violet one before her. She dips her fingers into a small bowl of blue tinted water and wiggles her fingers, sprinkling the water over the herbs and candles, "With water of the moon I cleanse this space, these people and these tools. May they tell no lies and hold no darkness." she whispers softly, before gathering the herbs and letting them fall into a silver chalice of black liquid.

"Bless this wine with herbs of the earth and the gentle hand of the witch who brought them from the earth." She lifts the cup and bows her head, a soft glow coming from the cup, signalling the beginning of the spell. Annabeth sips from the cup before lifting it to each of her friends lips and letting them drink before setting the cup down. She lifts her candle and brings it to her lips, the room darkening as she whispers a soft incantation, "...with the fire let these candles reveal the desires we hide from others, light our darkened hearts and show the secrets that hide there." she blows gently at the wick of the candle and after a moment fire flashes, engulfing the wicks of the candles and before their eyes the three flames weave around one another, caressing like lovers before separating and slamming into each of their bodies in various places. Annabeth screams as the flame burns an image in her skin. This is not how it is suppose to happen.

After a short time Annabeth moves and, wincing she raises her arms, the pain there finally gone. The images there, however, make her breath stop. In her left wrist is the image of a wolf, a wolf she knows very well, howling at a moon. On the right is a shadowy figure, tall and dark. She presses her arms to her chest to hide them and stumbles away. "I...it didn't work..." she tries to lie, her voice shaking.

Falling to the ground snarling she feels burning on her upper left thigh, clawing at the floorboards she tries to keep her demons at bay, looking up at Annabeth she howls partially in pain and partial with what was trying to tear it's way out of her

"Beloved of mah heart say what?!?" she questions as Annabeth declares it didn't work, she stops a moment after the pain had subsided and realises what she had just said she covers her mouth as her cheeks turn the same hue as her hair "what do ya mean it didn't work ?" she stands up smoothing her dress out, only lightly over were her thigh burnt

Lacey remains sitting, the pain a distant feeling as he closes his eyes and follows the burning feeling along his back. He knows what is there, on his shoulder blade.

Evangeline.

Annabeth.

He looks over his shoulder and frowns, "she isn't telling the truth...it worked...bit extream though wasn't it? Burning our hidden desires into our skin." He reaches back and lifts his shirt, revealing pale gray skin marred by scripted burns.

"well it might have fir y'all but ah feel fine... no Marks at all see" she spins around her wrists not marked or her shoulders, she looks very much her perfect self, her dress just long enough to hide where she was burnt

Annabeth stares at the marks on Lacey's back and feels her world falling away as they finish healing and form perfect letters. She looks up a bit and meets his gaze, her green eyes full of emotion as she approaches and drops to her knees. "Lacey..." she reaches out and traces her name engraved on his back, "Your desire..." she moves her other hand over Evie's name and trembles unable to say more.

smiles a bit more widely then she possibly ort to have

"Um.. excuse meh fir a moment.... girl...troubles" she rushes off to the bathroom

oh my god, what has she done she thinks as she pulls her dress up looking at the burn it looked like a perfect image of both Lacey and Annabeth intertwined together

her heart catches in her throat as she sits on the closed toilet her head in her hands

Okay Eve don't freak out.. there is a logica..... hey hang on !... Lacey's Shoulders.... and oh !

a excited yip escapes her mouth as she rushes back to the two of them

Lacey shrugs looking at Anna, " For as long as I've known you and Evie I've loved you. I'm not really sure when the type of love it was changed. " He examines the burns on Anna's wrists and hums running his fingers over the wolf. "You desire both of us too...well aren't we depraived."

The boogyman looks up as Evie comes back and raises a brow "What do you desire Evie?"

breathing deep she rises her dress showing them the mark she has

"Ah... well..... um....Depraved would be a word fir it " she just falls silent

Annabeth offers her wrists up to Evie, the wolf showing proudly on the tender skin of her arms. "I love you Evie...and I love Lacey too. My greatest desire, my darkest wish, is to be with you, both of you."
