That morning Jeremy woke up from the bright sun shining through a crack of the closed curtains in his living room. He rubbed his eyes and let out a small groan, trying to remember what happened last night. His head was pounding. Everything from last night was one big blur. It wasn’t uncommon for him to crash on the couch after drinking. He had no idea what time it was, only that it had to be daytime. He slowly sat up on the couch, scanning the room for his cellphone to check the time, only to find out that it was in the pocket of his jeans. “9:30” he muttered. He was going to be late for work again. It was a wonder he still had a job; something his boss made very clear to him last Friday. Jeremy had called in sick every day last week and was told they’d have to let him go if things continued like this. Things had gone down hill since the car accident 6 months ago. The mental pictures from that day were stuck in his head. There had been so much blood, but hardly any of it his. He survived with just a couple of scratches while his wife; Melissa, got so many severe injuries that she had to go through surgery, ended up in a coma, and passed away 4 weeks later. The only thing that could make those pictures go away seemed to be alcohol and drugs, and he was out of both.
Even though Jeremy was already late he decided to have a quick shower before heading to work. He didn’t want to reek of vodka. Or did he have whiskey last night? He couldn’t remember. He got up, grabbed a towel and sent Alexander a text to let him know he was on his way.
