HISTORY

Daichi is the youngest of four, with three older brothers in his life and a strict father. He seldom saw his mother, for she was always off on diplomatic missions with the previous representative of their family. As a young boy, he was thrust into the level of learning all his other brothers learned. The eldest two were twins, a mere 5 minutes apart from one another. His third brother was only a year young than they, while Daichi was seven years below them (six below the third). But with so many boys and the one father to care for them, there was no time to teach Daichi the basics of being a Shimizu.

The male managed to pick up the knowledge, luck, and skill quickly. He caught up to and surpassed all of his brothers, far more quick-witted and intelligent than they. The twins were somewhat relieved, he knew, because neither of them had a real passion to become the head of the family or even a representative. They were both content to live in the sea and never go to the surface. Daichi's third brother was different. Having always been compared to the twins, his third brother wanted the things that was handed so easily to them, and started bullying Daichi in an attempt to keep his younger brother from surpassing even him, who tried so hard.

Daichi, able to understand so much for how young he'd been, acknowledged his brother's desire to be the leader. Choosing between logic and family had been hard for him, but when it came down to it, Daichi valued family way more than anything else. He purposefully slowed in his progress, always staying two steps behind his brother, and made it seem as though he were following in the other's footsteps.

When his brother neared the age of ascension, Daichi was now twelve. His brother had been given the task of bending a familiar, for he showed all the signs to have the said ability. They hoped that if the 18 year old didn't show the ability to bend a familiar, he might at least prove worthy as a leader, but during the day of his test, Daichi's brother got so irritated that when he thrust out his hand in frustration, he struck a thin leg of a platform that caused whatever it held up on the surface to come tumbling down. Two small children floated into their sea, Tochiko children who couldn't yet swim. Daichi had seen it happening before his brother even struck out, knew what was coming, and rescued the children before anyone else could react.

For years, he had stayed behind his brother and chosen family above intelligence. Though his next actions would put him above his brother, let it never be mistaken that Daichi tried to be anything less than loving to the other male... He took the Tochiko children to the surface, and carried them both back to their parents. The former Tochiko tribe leader himself came to thank Daichi, and he could no longer hide behind his brother's shadow. Sometimes his family still asks him about that moment and how he knew. Even his third brother, who hates yet respects him, and wastes away all his days drinking, is curious to know how Daichi was so quickly able to react. He's never told any of them... that he heard something call out to him. 'They cannot swim. Save the children of Tochiko...'
