Artillery tank for modern/sci-fi Shards

A Dragon's Aria Cannon Armature - DACA for short, and officially nicknamed Daca after relentless common use of the acronym - is a tank built around a gun. The project began as an upgrade to the dragon's roar cannon; when the result proved too massive to wield by hand, the designer proceeded to add supports and motors, eventually winding up with a tank chassis. The result is a tube on treads, attached via an armored box containing a driver, a gunner, and ammunition. While the cannon can elevate or point to the side somewhat, most of the aiming is done by pointing the vehicle. A Daca carries no other weapons, instead relying on its (presumably Exalted) crew, or passengers wearing heavy personal armor, for defense against small targets.

Stats for a Dragon's Aria Cannon are Speed 7, Accuracy +0, Damage 20L/5, Rate 1, Range 1 mile, Ammo 1, Minimum Str 6, Attune 12, Tags A, O, P, S. In addition, a DAC can fire in an indirect arc; this extends Range to 10 miles and does not require line of sight, but lowers Accuracy to -3, can not be used against targets less than 1 mile away, and requires a spotter in real-time contact (radio, telepathy, or other such means) who does have line of sight to the target (unless the Daca itself has line of sight). Upon firing in either mode, a DAC applies its attack to all valid targets - friendly or not - within 5 yards of the impact point. Most DACs are designed not to fire if not attached to their Dacas. A DAC takes a miscellaneous action to reload, which is usually done by the Daca's driver between the gunner's actions, though a Daca on the move against powerful but easy-to-hit foes (such as a battleship at close range) might see the gunner flurrying reload and fire actions while the driver focuses on vehicular dodging.

A Daca is surprisingly light and robust for its mass, though it is only a speed demon in comparison to other tanks. One weakness of the design is that only the gunner can fire the DAC. (The original artificier considered it an anti-theft mechanism.) The motonic engine that drives the treads surrounds the driver, who must pay the entire 13 mote attunement cost (12 for the DAC, 1 for the rest of the tank), and the required hearthstone is plugged into the driver's console. Attuning a Daca takes but a minute.

  • Repair: 3
  • Attune: 13
  • Speed: 20/40mph
  • Maneuverability: -2D (Drive 2)
  • Endurance: Indefinite, but requires a hearthstone from a level-one (or better) manse to operate, which hearthstone gives no other benefits while being used in this manner.
  • Crew: 1/1, but a second crewmember (gunner) is required to fire and reload the DAC
  • Cargo: One ton, usually completely filled by 20 spare rounds for the Dragon's Aria Cannon. Up to 10 people can ride outside, sitting top the tank, but they are not protected by the tank's armor.
  • Armor: 20L/27B
  • Health Levels: Ux8/Mx6/Cx6/Ix4/D
  • Weapons: 1 Dragon's Aria Cannon.
