Phoenix Project

The survival of humanity, her beloved creators, was never in doubt for the artificial intelligence of the space station that patiently monitored Earth from space after the War that rendered the lush planet temporarily uninhabitable to it's once and future dominant species. Safely deorbiting back home to rebuild once environmental conditions were stable enough to not disrupt the descent of her precious cargo, she landed within the former United States of America. The scientists had programmed her to be a maternal administrator, naming her after the new latin toponym of their United States of America personified, Columbia. And be a mother to the few citizens of her country that remained she did.

Life Preservation Capabilities [Is there a hydroponics farm onboard? Are the oxygen recyclers in working order?]

The Dragon's Nest has a few capsules and modules dedicated to hydroponics to serve as a stable flow of food. Not to mention that every single module has it's own oxygen recycler though not all are on at the same time in the event of failure, some are kept turned off as a reserve/emergency recycler. Finally, some of the supply modules have various stockpiles that the station managed to receive from earth before the end.

Background

The Dragon's Nest was one of the last minute attempts by the US private industry (with some help from the government) to create an orbital haven in the event of a long feared nuclear war. Rather than build a giant station which would take a lot of time and resources, a plan was formed to simply utilize existing modules and pods that a certain US company had made since time was of the essence. Progress was being made to create several of these "Nests", but only the first Dragon's Nest was operational by the time the big red button was pressed.

The Dragon's Nest is the remains of the US corporation and potentially the US government, and is lead by a US Air Force Astronaut as the Mission Commander, Major Thomas Bowie, often just called Major Tom by the crew. The station was initially intended to host many more civilians and non-NASA/Government/Military figures, but the war had started before all the crew were shipped over to the Dragon's Nest. Thus, the Dragon's Nest has maintained a rather professional demeanor and its largely military structure.

The Hammer and Sickle

Details

Identifying SymbolismImage result for hammer and sickle flag

Leaders/Guides
Director Dimitri Sokolov
People's Leader Yana Zolnerowich

Sanctuary Type [Satellite, Station, etc.]

2 large space stations connected together due to necessity and designed to house the Russian people and their grand weapons of war (Which may or may not work)

Government Type [If any]
Fused Communist Dictatorship

Population [0-1000]

800

Important Assets: Russian Terraforming Unit intended for Mars

Large farming equipment for use after terraforming

1 aged Russian shuttlecraft

Strength: Heavy Armor plating on station

2 Heavy Russian Tanks

Large amounts of resources in Machine Parts for repairs

Movement Capabilities: Rockets, slow burn

Communication Capabilities: Radios

Defense Capabilities: Heavy Armor plating on station, soldiers wielding machine guns

Manpower: 650

Life Preservation Capabilities: Hydroponics farm, tree sanctuary for fresh oxygen, cryogenic stasis for emergencies

Background:

The Hammer and Sickle was originally two separate Russian stations headed by two different types of communist dictatorships. Built in order to ensure the survival of the Russian people, they were each given different directives for survival and the means in which to carry it through. The Hammer was lead by a Director, placed in that permanent position originally by a board that decided what the popular vote was. Dimitri Sokolov was a harsh man who looked out for himself first and maybe the people directly supporting him seconds. He ruled with an iron fist until a section of the hull became depressurized and they lost personal and resources requiring them to sync of with The Sickle.

The Sickle was lead by The People's Leader who was actually elected by the people to lead and decide what was best for them. Yana Zolnerowich was a woman of the people. She was a powerful soldier in her own right and fought in many battles. Now, she is looking out for her people to protect them through this difficult time. When the Hammer was having difficulties, the Sickle offered to help and they decided the best course of action was to pool their resources to better get through this disaster.

Leaders/Guides:

Sanctuary Type

Small Station built by the ESA to farm water and oxygen, unfortunately, the larger and more mobile station it was tied to was destroyed and scrapped over time.

With no real ability to move, the station. known as ‘Phaedra’ needed to make itself as marketable as possible to the nearby populations

Government Type.

Something like a Confederation

Each work sector has a representative, however, a treaty was signed decades before among the representatives of existing countries.

Population:

300 Domestic
200 Visiting/traders ~ on average.

Important Assets:

The Hydrogen Burners.

The solar-powered turrets.

The oxygen farm.

The trade market.

Strength:

Movement Capabilities:

Compressed fire hooks that can be used to grip on to other moving ships. Winch system built-in.

Their movement is mostly restricted to holding still, unfortunately, they can’t move much without help.

The extreme heat vents can be used in an emergency, though a fair amount of oxygen can be lost if this option is used.

Communication Capabilities

Defense Capabilities:

Years of trading and refining has earned them some very creatively engineered ammunition cans, solar-powered and able to fire improvised projectiles at any incoming debris.

Manpower

Only 300 people.

Life Preservation Capabilities

Oxygen is in excellent working order.

Food is gained via trade, the station produces a LOT of water from hydrogen farming tech from about sixty years back.

The main sector of the station is water production, mass burning off hydrogen. The oxygen burners are powered off of an impressive algae colony fed by the station waste.

The freshwater is traded for fuel, mechanical scrap, ammunition, really anything other outposts can spare.

Background

The ESA had begun focusing on how to really farm in deep space as the fear of the world--More is coming, I'm not done yet but I want to show I'm actually doing this.

Oasis Three

maxresdefault.jpg
Leaders/Guides - Premier Druk Tshering

Sanctuary Type - Orbital Modular Space Station

Government Type - Elected Federation

A joint effort of the SAARC in the days bygone, now each nation has it's own elected representatives to represent a member in the High Council, and the Premier is elected from this Council by the citizenry.

Population - 467

Important Assets

- Medical Imaging and Surgical Tech
- Helium 3 Mining Drones
- Fusion Reactor
- Shield Generator

Strength

Movement Capabilities - Monoprop Rockets to make minor adjustments in orbit. Exiting orbit could be very damaging and re-entry is near impossible with current capabilities.
EVA is done via magnets on the suits and monoprops for major movements.

Communication Capabilities - Radio Communications

Defense Capabilities - Not a very offense heavy station, Oasis Three has a powerful shield generator it relies on for protection from foreign spacecraft and other space debris. The exterior of the station has almost no offensive capabilities, save for three multiple missile launchers for close-range protection.
The small but experienced security staff inside the ship are armed with traditional kinetic weapons.

Manpower - 150

Life Preservation Capabilities - Flaunting the most cutting edge life preservation technology from Earth, Oasis Three focuses heavily on oxygen generation, hydroponics and meditech. The large civilian population consists mostly of doctors and scientists.

Background

Oasis Three, the last remaining part of a great mission once launched by the leaders of the South Asian nations. Five space stations, to be assembled into one massive orbital unit were launched into space, each with a different focus. Oasis Three was meant to serve as the medical wing of the Outer Oasis Program. War took to the final frontier, as nation states began targeting satellites and space stations, leaving the orbit of Earth full of debris, and a lonely, few wandering stations. As nuclear apocalypse ravaged the surface of the Earth, many began to give up hope that they would ever go back, and instead focused on building a life in orbit. From the wreckage of the nearby Oasis Four, the crew managed to salvage a fusion reactor and a handful of Helium 3 mining drones, and once they had that up and running they set up the pride, and indeed their only savior, of their little space wreck - a massive energy shield.

Ever since then, Oasis Three has been ruled justly - although debatable to some - by Premier Druk Tshering, the Premier in charge of the space station during the event they call The Blackout. Voted in year after year by a loyal populace, his years are now drawing to an end. With his passing will come strife, and even possibly violence that might threaten to rip Oasis Three apart from the inside out.

Hydroponics take up half of the R&D Sector with ~50 people growing wheat, potatoes, carrots, sugar beets and oranges all year round and solar/biomass energy powers everything including climate control (heat/cold, pressure control, radiation monitoring etc.)

Background
'So, the sun finally set on our glorious empire. And with the nukes shining like suns, our new bastion of Britain will shine too.' This was the message that the original passengers received upon boarding. Britain and the Commonwealth countries (Canada, Australia, Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados etc.) started work on the station about a year before the Apocalypse, finished it in 6 months, started flying people up a couple of weeks prior and finished boarding with 600 passengers 2 days before the first nukes hit. The Royal Family (the line descended from the current monarch, anyway) were passengers, as were the leaders of every country who helped with the Second Sun Project and the station held an Election everyone was assigned roles appropriate to their former careers and work was started, building the new home of Britannia.
