Coven Wars

"Come sit by the Witch's Tree....Playing in the dark...just you and me."
the covens of new orleans used to get along. but of course, nothing good lasts forever.

a secret ritual was revealed to another, and then one got word of it, and once everyone knew about it, fights began to break out between the previously allied covens. more secrets were leaked, supposedly by spies. and then the unthinkable happened.

the high priestess of the largest coven in new orleans was murdered. no one knew who it was, but everyone was suspecting each other and everyone was suspicious.

storms are brewing (literally) and the covens seem to be at war. the townies don't suspect anything, but for how long?

are you a witch?

or are you a townie?

whichever you may be, watch your back around here, and stay away from the witch's tree...

SETTING

while there are covens and solitary witches throughout the world, our story takes place in the fourth ward of new orleans, louisiana.

new orleans has been the heart of voodoo for generations, but in the late seventeeth century, it became home to witches as well. this was because the salem witch trials caused all of the true witches to flee to a safer place.

while voodoo queens and witches do get along (occasionally), our story will not include the voodoo queens. since they are not allied in any way, the voodoo covens are not going to be helping in any way due to the fear that betrayal will occur between their own people.

Witches
witches have been around for as long as people have. but, much like race, they have also been discriminated against for thousands of years. one prime example is the salem witch trials of 1692.

witches can be essentially described as humans with major gifts, also known as powers or abilities.

while witches can be male or female, it is extremely rare for a male to be born, and as such witches usually don't reproduce.

being a witch is impossible to achieve unless you're born one, and the 'trait' is hereditary, showing up in random points throughout the generation.

New info
NEW INFO PLEASE READ
MAIN POINTS OF PLOT SO FAR:

So here we go:
The four covens lived in peace for centuries, no one dared to disturb the balance
The Aeris Coven, the oldest coven in New Orleans preached for the ways of tradition, wanting to leave the system of the covens the way the founding witches had created it so long ago. The High Priestess of this Coven was the most respected of leaders
Graceful and Fair, this High Priestess only asked of one thing: Keep to Tradition.
Politics, however, have a funny way of turning even the gentlest of souls into monsters.
The Mador Coven, is the newest. Only Surfacing in the Early 1900s they were already miles ahead of the "traditional" way of thinking, going as far as to appoint a Male as High Priest of the coven, something that has never been done before
This angered the other covens for a short while but as time went on, they adapted. All except the Aeris Coven of course.
Somethings are better left in the past.
But this is how our story begins.
So basically. The everything starts with this little tiff between the Aeris and Mador Coven.
Our first chapter will take place on the night of Halloween, at the towns Masquerade ball that is hosted every year by the mayor himself. Townsfolk and Witches alike will be joined together on this night, when the murder of Aeris' High Priestess is discovered.
Found by the Ignis High Priestess in the oddest of places, several questions could be asked. One being why were the pair alone in such an odd place together? What happened? This could make the High Priestess of Ignis a suspect in the murder.
The Successor of the Aeris Coven is young and not easily trusted, her powers are uncontrollable making her weak. She has a lot to learn and the whole foundation of the coven could collapse if she slips. Perhaps she wanted the High Priestess (HP) out of the way. She talked of change like it was a good thing. She was open to the idea of letting the mortals know of their presence, which her priestess was solely against for the reasoning of not only the covens safety but the mortals as well.
Mador Coven's HP(high priest(ess) ) had a same view on such matters. If one which recalled, the pair were actually close friends.
A trial will be held, to prove who is innocent and who is guilt. The secrets that have been kept will be revealed. Times are changing. Who can be trusted? Who's side will you stand on? You either bend or you will snap.

Powers

  • Powers
    ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧

    Powers:

all witches are immortal, but that only protects them from aging. provided they are not protecting themselves, they can be killed in any other way. any witch can do spells and make potions that can do a variety of things, but all witches are born with these standard powers that can be practiced immediately without incantations or tools:

divination: witches are able to use water or other mostly clear objects to see the future and occasionally the past.
elemental control: witches are able to manipulate one element based on their personality. the control is very limited. i will choose which element your character gets once they're finished.
healing: witches are able to heal others by projecting their own energy into them. this does not work if the person is dead.
object summoning: witches are able to summon objects to their hands or space around them. the item must be very lightweight and non-living. this does not work on others' magical objects. they can also send objects other places.
sensing: witches are able to sense other witches, even in a large crowd.
telekinesis: witches are able to make an object magically float or move around. while it can be used on living beings, it is frowned upon.
telepathy: witches are able to communicate telepathy with other witches.
teleportation: witches are able to teleport to other places, but the process takes time (roughly ten seconds to a few minutes depending on where you're going) and can be stopped mid-port. witches can actually get stuck in the spiritual world if something interrupts their teleporting.

each witch is also born with one special power that only they can use.

With great power, comes great responsibility.

Forbidden: Black Magic

Forbidden Magic: Black Magic
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧

Black Magic

Black Magic is strictly forbidden amongst the four covens, all High Priestess' chose to keep it so for purposes of peace.

What is black magic?
Black Magic is Evil Magic
In this view, Black Magic is associated with things that according to "civilized" people should not exist at all. It is an abomination rather than a part of the cycle of life and death. For some, merely to consider using Black Magic is to risk one's future happy existence. Evil is something that pollutes the mind, soul, and body to even learn about. This sort of magic moves the soul(s) away from enlightenment, even as knowledge is gained.

In some modern traditions, evil or black magic is defined as any magic that does harm or that influences or overrides the will of another regardless of methods, intention, or the end result.

Black Magic Abilities (Not all are forbidden)
Blood Magic (Forbidden)
Conjuration
Demon Summoning (Forbidden)
Curse Manipulation (Forbidden)
Curse Inducement
Death Magic (Forbidden)
Destruction Magic
Amalgamation
Mutation Inducement
Necromancy (Forbidden)
Possession/ manipulation spells (Forbidden)
Telekinesis
Telepathy
Teleportation

Explanation for two of them:

Blood Magic:
The user can manipulate certain properties of blood including acidity, poisonousness, venomousness and flammability. They may be able to do it by touching the target or from a distance. They may be able to only change their own blood properties, change the properties of others blood, or do both.
User can create, control and otherwise manipulate blood of oneself, others or from their surroundings, whether it be from blood-banks, hospitals, or battlefields.

Possession/Mind+Body Manipulation:
User can possess or take over the body of any living being, whether sentient or not, by stealing their motor functions and senses. Users may or may not have to leave their own body for this to take place. Disembodied users such as spirits may use the body as their own.
If the user is powerful enough they can erase what resides in the subconscious (like their capacity to choose right from wrong) and leave only what they deem "important" making them very strong or very dangerous. Another rare use is the capability to manipulate dreams, able to even create very vivid nightmares.

History as it pertains to the Covens: "The Battle of Silver Moon" --> Enslaving of the great Werewolf.
Long ago, after the horrors of Salem had died down, the witches slowly regained power in the supernatural world. After their closest allies, the werewolves turned their back on the horrors of Salem, the witches declared war. "The Battle of Silver Moon" was a gruesome three day battle that determined the fate of the two species forever. Taking down their systems of power, the witches took hold of the packs. Most wolves today are own by witches. Many of them living amongst the covens, the wolves of course fought hard to regain their rights, but through the powers of possession and mind manipulation, the witches were able to bend the entire species to their will. Those who remain today have been slaves for hundreds of years, or were born into slavery.

Rule of Magic: The Rule of Three (also Three-fold Law or Law of Return) It states that whatever energy a person puts out into the world, be it positive or negative, will be returned to that person three times.
