Warning: if you are reading this, you are in grave danger. Take this note to the nearest isolated place, somewhere closed from everywhere, before you carry on. My name is Meena and you've probably noticed the havoc going on around. I just wanted to leave this note, just in case a person was actually still alive out here. I want you to know what you are not the only one alive.

As you know it's been a few years since the virus mutated and things aren't getting any better. In fact, the zombies are developing. There's 3 kinds, and I've noted them here for you.

There are clickers, they're deaf, they can't see you but what they lack in seeing they sure as hell make up in hearing. In order to kill a clicker you need to cut of its head- nothing else will work.

There's also bloaters, they're the big fat ones. They don't even resemble humans, and they are basically indestructible. It takes a whole lot of time and effort to take one of them down, I've never been able too. In fact they would probably take you down first. They're the once who have been diseases the longest. If you see one of them then I suggest just to hide, or run (they're not too fast).

And last, but certainly not least, are the runners. They are the quickest things I have ever seen on my life and you really don't wanna be taken by surprise by one of those. However, weapon wise they are the easiest to kill. Any hard blow to the head, including a bullet shot, or setting them on fire will dispose of them, for good.

Well best of luck. I hope you survive and maybe one day we will cross paths

-Meena Jacie

The wind blew through the crack of the window, creating an awful howling noise and Meena pulled her blanket up to her shoulders in response. She couldn't remember how long she had been alone for now. Even the last gun shot she heard must have been a few months back. She didn't know, days felt like years now and there was no way to keep track of them.

Shuddering at the sounds of the undead, the young girl closed her eyes and began counting to 10. She wasn't scared about them getting her. No, she was on the 50th floor up or so, and all possible exits were heavily barricaded. She was more concerned about the severe lack of sleep she had been suffering from. Every time she closed her eyes, she could see it. The images of her last ally being brutally ripped piece by piece from the undead. And the worst thing was, she hadn't done anything to stop it.

Pushing the memories away, she lay her head on the concrete floor and hoped that sometime soon she would drift into dreamless sleep.

Alex looked through his binoculars, scanning his eyes across the tall buildings of the city - they were desolated, the ones that hadn't been burn't to the ground were dented and rusted from the months of dis-use. He quickly found what he was looking for, a barricaded window - with any luck that meant people had either been there or were there now, either way it was good for him, the last non-infected person he'd seen had been months ago now and he was beginning to get twitchy from the time alone. He wasn't meant to be isolated, a commander with no troops was about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

He began to jog down the hill he had been perching on, say what you want about the apocalypse, it had done a lot for his fitness. He smirked slightly at this thought - seeing a lone runner nearby he slowed down slightly, waiting for it to see him - it didn't take long. The monster charged at him with reckless abandon, Alex smirked slightly and muttered to himself "Down, left, right, slash" - he drew his hunting knife, a foot long blade with a small plastic handle. He ducked straight down as the runner bit at him, missing by a mile. Alex then dodged left, evading the runner's crude slash with it's hands and drawing closer to the zombie at it's right side, ramming his knife through it's head so the tip just stuck out of the top like a strange metal insect perched on the runner's head.

Alex pulled his blade out and continued his trek, seeing a group of zombies clustered around the base of the building - if the people were still alive they were definitely still in the building. Alex cursed slightly, he climbed up a nearby building to get a better view, pulling out his binoculars and glimpsing up the building, the boards were on the 50th floor - he wondered briefly if he could scale the wall before deciding against it.

Looping his way around the building he found a back door, breaking it open and running up the stairs, reaching the 50th floor slightly out of breath and trying to open the door nearby - it was locked "oh for the love of" he cursed, punching the door.

Kai recalls the warm feeling of her mother's hugs, the sharp scent of coffee brew drifting from her father's favorite chipped mug, and the sight of the world around her on a humid Summer's day. These are the fragments of memories that she carries around with her, to enable her to live again and feel something that isn't remotely similar to pain. She thinks of these things as she scrounging up scraps, she thinks of them as she is running from those who have lost all sight of humanity and human morals, and she thinks of them as she brutally decapitated the Clicker which has ventured into her shelter, utilizing the large butcher knife she managed to snag from a corpse.

It was hard for Felix to drive that vehicle. Not because he was a poor driver, or prone to panicking behind the wheel, but because every time he got behind the wheel, he had to think about how he'd pushed the half-decomposed former owner from the drivers seat and left him to rot in the wake of his RV.

But on the bright side, Felix would never, ever have to leave anyone behind again. It was a spacious thing, that RV, the sort of thing that only an adventurous rich man could have owned in the days before the apocalypse, with beds and a living room and what appeared to be a defunct aquarium. The luggage compartment was filled with gas canisters when he found it - someone had prepared the thing. It was hard to imagine how someone so well adapted to a survival situation could have simply dropped dead with his head on the steering wheel and his keys in the ignition. On those long and empty stretches of road, that question badgered his thoughts, but he could usually dispel it with the sentiment of "no matter." It was his now, and he would do good with it. He would start a field hospital - yes! He'd find an encampment and do just that - well, no. He wouldn't find an encampment. Encampments were so rare nowadays, as survivors were few.

Well, he'd do good with it as he was able.

That was about a month ago, though, and you couldn't live in the past. Not in the zombie apocalypse. The present and future were of utmost concern. Felix drove along the rubble of the open desert plains. Though hot, he enjoyed that sort of climate, as he could stop anywhere to sleep with minimal fear of being attacked in the night. The only downside was that the only people he ever found were dead, spared the fate of becoming zombies, but dead nonetheless, usually bloated out of proportion or skeletal in the sun's heat, depending on how long they'd been dead. Felix was a people person. He needed to raise people up to feel as though he was worth something. He had to wipe away their tears and hold them when they were afraid, bandage their wounds and stave off their fevers. That was Felix's entire life, and the dead were a reminder of all whom he had failed. He tried not to look at them. That was his daily challenge.

He knew that the city was not far off. The road signs he passed indicated this, and it filled him with hope. There were a lot of things the city could have to offer - food. Water. Better shelter. Gasoline. Possibly people, if he believed hard enough. But he still couldn't see the city. He trusted the road signs and the sure, straight path he traveled, but he trusted his own eyes more. And until he could truly see the place, he'd feel certain that it was too good to be true. Thirst creeping up in his throat, he knocked back a swig of water from the bottle on his dashboard. He actually had plenty of water, but his food supply was dwindling. The opposite problem seemed to affect many survivors - plenty of food, not nearly enough water. It made all the more sense to join forces.

Then, he saw it on the horizon - a line of grayish concrete, tinted by the green beginnings of overgrowth. The city.

Felix drove faster.

After what seemed like hours of trying to sleep, Meena began in to tidy up the apartment and something about the chore amused her a little. Perhaps it was because she could remember doing this back in the old times. She could remember blasting the latest hits and jumping on the bed with her sister with not a care in the world. Well, it wasn't exactly the same thing. No cleaning up ever got done in that time, but that's what they would say they were doing.

As she was cleaning, a glisten in the corner of her eye caught her attention. Her pistol on the table. A reminder of the apocalyptic world around her, which was enough to quickly wipe the grin straight from her face. All that innocence was gone and the gun was a symbol of that, and as long as she kept it near it would always be there to remind her. It didn't matter if she blocked everything out, or pretended that she had never killed. It didn't matter if she blocked out the noises like a child and hid under her blanket, she could never hide from the truth.

Heaving a deep sigh, she placed the brush back where it had come from before slumping against the wall with her head in her hands.

Who was she kidding? As distant as she kept herself from her allies and as much as she taunted them, she needed someone near. A person goes insane with no one their to tell them what's right or not. Yet, at the same time her head disagreed, an ally was pointless. They all end up dead or missing, and they'd kill you the second they thought they didn't need you. Her last ally had been enough to prove this. Or if that wasn't enough you could use the previous ones, there had been far & plenty.

Suddenly a large banging on the door brought her back to reality. How had a zombie gotten inside? Or better even how was it
still inside? She just couldn't understand. She did hadn't been in this apartment for long, but it sure as hell was secure. She had ensured that every possible entrance was heavily barricaded and every blooming floor. It had taking her 4 frickin months but it had been done good, and not a single one had been near since. And if that wasn't enough, there were plenty of traps she had made that an idiot as dumb as one them would have fell into. It just didn't make sense. She had checked the premises just yesterday, a routine she had done weekly since she first moved in.

Standing up quickly she reached for her gun and aimed near the door. That thing could be anything, even a freakin bloater and if
that got in... well it was the end.

"Oh for the love of" something interrupted her anxiety before pounding again on the doors. Was this thing human? She had never head as zombie speak before. Damn if these things had started speaking, she was seriously gonna top herself.

"A-are you diseased?" She questioned, holding her pistol securely with two hands.

Max held the note in his hand, putting it back where he had found it,he already had gotten rid of his previous group of pawns so now he was on his own, running was his specialty when it came to zombie-like infected people. However, if this note was true to it's word so he may need to get some weapons himself rather soon, to deal with one of them, preferably something quick and quiet. A dagger would suit him well, it was a wonder that he hadn't made of had looted one, but after thinking for a bit he thought one type of weapon wouldn't work well, maybe some throwing or long range weapons. He already knew that there was more people, heck he went through about 3 groups of three already to help him survive the Ebola mutation.

He started to walk along calmly, as long as it was dark, or there was somewhere that was dark he would be fine. He was getting rather good at sneaking around like this, not sure if that was something to be proud of, but it was a good survival trick that had helped him since he ran from what was considered home a year ago. Winter started to hide behind the same building, as he covered his face with his hood, watching a man started to attack a group of the infected. He could be useful, but it seemed that he went to attack the infected, not the other way around. That usually meant that he was trying to get someplace, he followed him to the backdoor still basically hiding in the shadows of the building, his blue-green eyes taking a look of the surroundings. The area still contained a large amount of volume of zombies, and him smashing the door only would cause 'Clicker' zombies to arrive.

Winter would start to move from the area, if there were Clickers here they would be here soon, and their sense of smell would be annoyingly accurate, he started to go to a nearby, probably locked building. The note did say to be isolated, he moved towards a small building, it was almost destroyed completely but it seemed to have a basement. It was a rather good place to hide, but to run that would be nearly impossible. He would then move towards another one a larger one, it would be a easier way to hide and run due to the amount of floors. He started to move the twin building from the person who ended up breaking down the door. He took care of the first zombies, so hiding and running over to the building would be rather safe, as he walked towards the building next to it, finding it rather vacant, perhaps he was lucky, there wasn't a single zombie in here for now. He looked up as there was a small sign on the building,well it would be rather large if it wasn't so broken. He walked inside, it seemed that the building that he found seemed to use to be a mall, looted beyond a doubt but it had areas to hide anyways so that was nice.

"Damn you are ugly..." he said, as he was holding a runner by his neck, tightly. The thing was aggresive as any other, trying to bite him, hit him, a typical infected. He smirked, looking straight at the runners red bloody eyes, filled with rage and hunger for John's meat. He puffed out some smoke into it's face, however the runner didn't even flinch. John raises his left hand, in which he appears to be holding his machete he scavenged earlier, he was damn lucky to find something like that. He then proceeded by aiming his swing at the runners head, sticking the blade into it's rotten head, blood spilling out to the ground he let the dead body fall. He cleaned off the blood from the blade, sheating the machete. He lightly kicks the body, checking if it died. He moves his right hand over to his mouth, taking out the cigar he had been smoking, he drops some ash from the cigar on the body, saying "That should be the last one in this room. I hope I am right.". He puts the cigar back into his mouth, continueing to smoke. John looks around, looking mainly at the rotten corpses laying around. He sighs, adjusting his sunglasses, he begins to walk out of the room right to the hall. On his way he makes sure he picked everything clean. As he walkes out he proceeded to walk upstairs, having his hand placed on the hilt of his machete. As he walks he looks at a small sign which has the number 49 on it, he thinks to himself "Hm. It seems I am about to reach the 50th floor now.". He continues to walk slowly up, puffing out more smoke. Suddenly he hears a male voice, upon hearing it he begins to walk even slower, the sound from his footsteps now minimilazed, completely silent. He grabs hold of his machete, preparing for a possible fight.

"Oh for the love of-", that's what he heard. He is suprised however and kind of relieved, as what he heard was a voice that of a young boy who probably didn't even get laid yet. "Hah...Who would've thought I would run into some kind of a boy...Still, he might have some tric-", yet he heards another voice, probably responding to the first one, it's a girl this time, "A-Are you deceased?", muffled however, probably in a room. His ears peeled out even more, he clings to the wall behind him, silently moving up, he remains in cover, reaching the 50th floor. His hand still on the hilt, he realizes he still has a cigar in his mouth, he drops it out on the ground quickly, smashing it quietly with his foot. "Damn...I hope they didn't smell it..But the smell of rotten corpses in this buidling should mask it..Now let's see who we have here." he thought.

Voices. Kai had no idea anyone was inhabiting the building she had chosen but they were there, she had been one floor above 50 and had happened to notice the atmosphere had shifted slightly, the sound of running feet and the sudden opening of a door. Slowly, ever so slowly, Kai trailed downwards from her position on the steps before peeking ever so slightly around the corner which faced directly into the hallway. 3 people. Two men and one girl, all possibly armed. She grimaced slightly before stepping back slowly, waiting for their conversation to end before she could go about her way. Kai had encountered many people once the Infected had started running amok about the city and none of them had been kind.

"Yeah, cause zeds just hop up and have chats don't they" Alex said sarcastically - as he said this he noticed a tiny change in the air, it was subtle but it was just enough to put him off guard. Alex snapped his eyes around, finding a million subtle clues; the light rustle of clothes moving, an almost inaudible metallic sound reverberating off the walls, a small wisp of cigar smoke floating past his eyes - "And whoever the heck is skulking about down the stairs - you really should keep an eye on where the smoke from your cigar is drifting" he called down to the man. He tested the door again, it still refused to budge "now are you gonna open this door or am I gonna have to kick it down" he said, unsure whether he could actually kick it down but he kept this insecurity out of his voice as best he could. He heard a tiny metallic rattle - the girl behind the door had a gun... this complicated things.

He moved slightly away from the door, his body no longer in the doorframe - as he did this he noticed another person upstairs, hiding. "Oh, and another person, why don't we just all have a sodding party" he said sardonically - despite his sarcasm, he really would enjoy a bit of vodka right about now - he'd never been much of a drinker before but... heck it was the apocalypse, why the hell not.

Fudgecakes. Kai cursed herself inwardly before stepping from out of her hiding place, she had hoped to have been left alone however it hadn't seemed as if it would happen. She scanned the man before wondering how he had noticed her as well as the other person who seemed to be drifting behind him. Sherlock Holmes in a zombie apocalypse. The thought was actually believable in a situation such as this and unthinkingly, Kai moved towards him before extending her hand in greeting. "You must've somehow gotten past the barricade downstairs as well as the clickers and runners, that's pretty awesome. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, I'm Kai." Kai hesitated before glancing towards the door, her eyes narrowing slightly. "I believe that girl is armed, she has the barrel pressed towards the door and you should possibly back away.."

@GabrielD921

"Hey listen, dumb ass," Meena spat in retaliation, "first things first, shut the hell up because I don't know if you've noticed but these things are attracted to noise. Second of all, kick down my bloody door and I'll shoot you point blank in the head, same goes for that snotty attitude"

Moving slowly to the door, Meena pushed the broken fridge in front of the rest of the clatter.
Just in case, she thought nervously before re-aiming her pistol at the door. There was no way in hell that she was letting strangers into there. She had see more than enough times what city survivers could be like. They shoot you, loot you and sometimes even rape you. They could be god damn vile, they mostly all were. And what were the chances that this person was calling for a cup of tea and a heart to heart?

After hearing more voices, Meena couldn't help but roll her eyes. Great, now there was a whole tourist group, a 5 course platter for the zombies who were no doubt wandering around by now.

"Wow Einstein," she hissed to the feminine voice, "who would of guessed that?"

Kai listened intently to the girl speaking before recoiling in confusion, she was certainly harsh and Kai had done nothing whatsoever to deserve that. "Perhaps you should change your tone when speaking with others as you never know when they may be able to help you, it would be valuable for you to reconsider your own attitude, Miss." Kai paused, adding a "with all due respect" at the end. People had become more unpleasant as the days dwindled by and she could certainly understand the frustration but there was no need to be entirely rude to ones' own species.

@GabrielD921

Alex stifled a laugh at that, shaking the girls hand - he couldn't tell whether she had balls of steel or was just a bit soft in the head. "Trust me, zeds coming up here is not exactly viable to be a problem while we've got rambo down there" he said, indicating the man downstairs. "Now I recommend you open the door" he said. Alex pushed a foot to the wall behind him - solid brick, no way he could bash through there, anything weaker than a sledgehammer wasn't getting through that. He then pulled out a deck of cards from his pocket, doing a set of intricate flourishes and shuffles while he waited for something to happen.

John sighs, now knowing that the smoking habit of his revealed him. He chuckles slightly, still leaning against the wall he was hiding up untill now. With his left hand he reaches down to one of his pockets, he dives in the hand pulling out a pack of what appear to be, yes you guessed it, cigars. He opens the pack moving it closer to his mouth and he pulls out one cigar with by holding it with his teeth. He then closes the pack, swiftly putting it back in his pocket on the pants. John then takes out a lighter, igniting it thus lighting up the cigar; inhaling deeply. He then puts the lighter back, releasing large amount of smoke as he exhales, he then chuckles. He slowly moves out of his cover, as if he is too lazy to, but still he makes quite a entry. He adjusts his black sunglasses which completely cover his eyes, making a smile which might indicate few things, he is either to start laughing, pull out the weapon he is still holding on to or do something entirely different. "Hahaha - This shit can happen only in a movie...what a drag, so many young brats at the same place, I wonder if they even have anything on them." he thought to himself. He spreads wide his arms as if he greets them, John chuckles one more time before starting to talk; "Haha...What a nuisance, you virgin boy! Who do you think you actually speak to? You are in no damn position to order anyone here, ya understand pisspot?", the tone of his voice full of confidence and not a single sign of doubt in his face he speaked to the boy infront of him.

He lowers his arms, putting his right arm back on the hilt of his machete. He puffs out a small cloud of smoke out of his mouth, stright at the boy. His eyes then gaze at the woman who just introduced herself, he begins to speak again, changing his look to either the boy or the woman named Kai upstairs;
"Now let me make somethin' clear here..This probably ain't the place to be all lovey-dovey and introducing ourselves like nothin' is even going on..And those cards of yours boy...They for poker or wiping your ass? Huh? he stopped talking, having a sarcastic tone at the near the end of his sentence. His attention is then turned to the door, which seems to be barricaded by some stuff behind, and by the looks of it there waits another woman, but with a gun. "The gun of yours may attract some mofos from the outside, but the entire building is picked off clean. And I think it's a waste of bullets on that boy over here." he said, he then thinks to himself "Well fuck, this may actually be a problem...what a drag. The girl upstairs..I don't know if she has a weapon or not, probably yes, but judging by her looks she is not a fighter. That boy seems weak too, but I shouldn't underestimate him. Well, I'd rather see how things will drag out, perhaps they could be of use?"

Kai tilted her head in indifference, trying to hold back the rising of her temper. Be kind, always be kind. She studied the man before wrinkling her nose at the overpowering stench of his cigar and gripping the butcher knife which is clutched in her hand. "Sir, I don't believe that is kind to say however I'll leave that to your judgement, I would recommend that you hold your tongue before speaking as it seems to not do wonders for the intelligence I know you possess." Kai straightens before turning towards the stairwell she arrived from. She hadn't ever used direct tactics in order to kill her enemy and preferred the stealthier method, she certainly didn't want to be in the presence of so many derogatory people for too long. Be kind, always be kind. Kai struggled to remind herself of this before a smile graced her features. "With that said, a pleasure to meet you.."

Smirking happily to herself, Meena undid the barricade before shooting one bullet aimed to miss.

"Oops," she laughed "sorry not sorry"

Opening the door, Meena leans on the door frame and twirls the pistol mischievously round her finger. The older voice was right, shooting at that dumb ass probably did attract a few clickers but it was so worth it. Tilting her head to the side, she slowly eyes these people one by one.

First the girl, who looks very whiny and like she hasn't eaten in days. The old Meena probably would have felt sorry for her, but now she just felt plain annoyed. Who the hell did she think she was? Little Miss Class & Manners intruding and trying to act all helpless and innocent, pft.

Then she eyed the boy, or more like glared, and couldn't help but chuckle under her breath. Did he really think he could kick down her wall? He was so skinny and childlike with his little pack of cards.

And as her eyes turned to face the third voice, she couldn't help but smile a bit. She liked that one, in an annoying older brother way.

"That was aimed at you by the way princess, open your mouth again and I'll aim it at your head," she smiled innocently before continuing, "can I help you idiots?"

Kindness. Kindness. Kindness always helped. In this case it wouldn't but she would be kind.. and graceful. She jumped slightly as a bullet barely grazed her ear and lodged itself into the wall directly behind her. Gritting her teeth, Kai's smile only served to widen before she spoke. "I needed nothing from you Miss, I simply wished to know what all the commotion was for, now if you'll excuse me." Kai spared one more glance at the woman as well as the two others before starting her trek upwards, she had a clicker to dispose of and a shelter to start.

@GabrielD921

Alex raised an eyebrow to the man "alright, first of all - Duke Nukem needs to pull his head out his ass, then I'm thinking I'm gonna head off - assuming little miss sunshine over here" - he indicated the girl with the gun "doesn't shoot me in the back of the head for walking suspiciously or something" He leaned back against the wall, cutting the cards another few times and observing the others - the polite girl, not a problem - she didn't exactly seem the type to punch first. The girl with the gun, possibly a problem - she clearly was either knowledgeable or reckless enough to play with the gun and that was not a good sign. The beefy guy seemed too full of himself to be a problem, he'd hit hard sure, but that wouldn't mean much if he couldn't get a punch in. Overall, he didn't want to fight any of them but he was pretty confident he could would win if he had to. As Kai began to walk back upstairs he wondered something "Anyway, what are you doing up there" he asked her, keeping a wary eye on the other two.

Kai stopped before turning once more towards the boy, considering his question. She saw no reason to lie as it seemed that that would only make the situation more complex than it needed to be so instead, Kai answered as honestly as she could. "My parents are possibly dead after all of this, I've been trying to find them just to see..I don't know, maybe I'm just hopeless but, I think a sight of their corpses could give me some closure." She smiled feebly before wondering inwardly if the boy had parents and whether he had lost them, she wondered of the other two and their lives before this. "May I ask of why you're here?"

@GabrielD921

The woman John had found more and more annoying by each word she spat out seemed to leave as the suprise shot was fired by the woman who just walked out of her room. He didn't expect that to happen, that's for sure, what's even more important was the sound of the gun, which could be heard by anyone in the building, or around it. John didn't even jump out from the gun shot, his expression may have changed to that of a suprised man, but he returned to his previous self rather quick, however, he briefly turned around and looked out of the window if something didn't start running towards this building, he didn't see any movement, luck was probably on his side today. He then turns back to the group, eyeing the gun and the woman holding it, it seems she may be able to shoot accurately, however he counts on that she will hesitate to really kill any human. And that youngster John grew annoyed from, judging by how he reacted and how he looked at him, John deducted that the boy things John is nothing but muscle it seems. However, he still tried to keep his machete holstered. Puffing out some smoke he speaks again, his eyes watching the woman with the gun; "Waste of a valuable bullet, if you intented to fire you could've just bang the card boy infront of you." having a sarcastic tone again. He then smirks, putting the cigar out of his mouth he drops down some ash from it, putting it back afterwards.

Meena watched happily at the commotion going on in front of her. Damn, this was all so entertaining, like some sort of soap opera or crap like that. Since electricity went out, things had been boring as hell and as annoying as they were these people were actually entertaining. Hesitating for a moment longer, she laughed as Romeo trailed after Little Miss Princess. Why boys always try and save damsels in distress was beyond her. And besides, her problems were just the same as everyone else's. Boo hoo, get over it.

"
Eh" she shrugged, giving a small smile to the man, "at least he knows when to shut the hell up"

Shaking her head, she heaved a small sigh. As entertaining as this all was, because of these idiots she was gonna have to move. Sure, there was no zombies here at the moment but there will be soon enough. Besides, if she was gonna leave at anytime, she might as well trail the others and stir up a bit more drama.

"
Hey, if you want a few things come take some," she offered, "I'm not going to fit all these things in my bag and there's enough cans to last a few years here"

Pulling her duffel bag out of the wardrobe, Meena began to pile in anything that seemed important enough.

"
Romeo and Juliet," she shouted, rolling her eyes heavily, "I suppose that goes for you too, I mean if your not too scared"

Alex smiled softly at Kai "I'm just looking for supplies, looks like I came to the right place" he said, smiling. He then turned to the man "Also you may want to rephrase that statement" he said, a light smirk coming to his face. He eyed the man, he clearly wasn't stupid, very few stupid people survived the first few weeks. He then stepped into the room, slinging off his backpack and beginning to stack cans into it - he still had enough food for a few more months but with this amount he could easily survive for the majority of a year. The only problem was the noise it made, he stacked every can separately and with things in between so as to muffle the noise as much as possible but he still worried about the clickers. He pocketed his cards as he piled the cans into his pack. "By the way, what do I call you, I mean crazy-gun-chick might be descriptive but it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue" he said to the man and the girl with the gun.

Kai felt somewhat sorry for the girl's sudden decision to move, they had produced a lot of noise and now the girl was offering them things. She stepped timidly into the apartment before grabbing a select few cans, she had survived off of much less before the apocalypse had occurred and was sure that this would be enough. She turned towards the girl. "I apologize for that debacle earlier, thank you for being kind enough to supply us with these things." She recalled the Clicker she had beheaded earlier, it had been roaming around a few floors up and it had more or less surprised her. "If you still wish to reside here, I would recommend being careful when you go upwards. There are Clickers present there, I've only killed one but where there's one, there's multiple." She walked towards the entryway, observing the three. She hadn't planned on this day to be eventful but it had.

Felix reached the city within minutes, and upon passing city limits, was crestfallen - though he could gather supplies quite freely here, he saw no sign of human life. A few zombies lingered in the streets; clickers without a sound to follow, runners with no reason to run. He could have trampled them easily by ramming them with his new RV (he'd tried it on a few stragglers out in the desert, finding it surprisingly effective), but he chose to skirt them. For creatures so lawless and feral, they didn't take kindly to the killing of their own kind. He proceeded in that fashion, killing as few zombies as possible in order to avoid garnering their attention. A few stragglers were crushed under his tires, and those went largely unnoticed, but the way they crunched under his tires made him feel sick inside. Felix hated to kill anything, even zombies. The knowledge that they were once people, too, with lives and families and aspirations and probably a favorite dumb internet video, held him back. He wasn't unfamiliar with death or the act of allowing a true lost cause to die - in nursing school, you had to come to terms with it. Some people didn't make it. Others might, based on their prognosis, but would still ask that their plug be pulled. You had to be strong to deal in death. Felix always had a hard time with it, leaving him unconvinced of his own strength.

Partway into the city, he found a hospital standing on a separate lot, untouched by the crammed buildings of the city. He loved that about hospitals, just loved hospitals in general. Better yet, he knew his way around a hospital, and could loot the places that others had not. He pulled up in the EMT parking lot, grabbed an empty bag, and took a cautious step from the vehicle, looking left and right. There were no zombies that he could see, but he still made quick work of getting from the vehicle to the hospital.

Once inside, his first course of action, well before he even looked about himself, was to snatch the lid off of a garbage can and hold it by its lid by a shield. He'd never once been able to kill a zombie by hand, and even if he wanted to start now (unlikely!), he had no weapon. If he held the lid at arm's length, he might be able to hold off a zombie or two. Okay, basic means of safety achieved, he could now take in his surroundings - a waiting room, of course, complete with a front desk and several toppled chairs. His first concern was the cafeteria, where some food might have remained. One of the plastic signs screwed to the wall indicated its location, and he followed those directions, proceeding with his lid-shield held out before him. The hallway opened up into a spacious cafeteria. Though the lights flickered, and dust had accumulated, nothing seemed too out of the ordinary. The door to the kitchen was closed - a good sign, Felix figured. Most looters didn't trifle with closing the door, among other decent things. He stepped inside. Past the kitchen area, a set of shelves would have held piles of non-perishables. "Piles" might have been a bit generous, but some did remain - some creamed corn, beans, peaches, and the like. He quickly crossed the room and began piling the cans into his backpack. Within minutes, his bag was heavy with food to last him for weeks. He could have kept going, but something stopped him - an odd noise. A low growl. His heart leaped into his throat, and he turned, eyes wild.

He had to look down to see her; a zombie, crawling along on the floor, propelled entirely by her arms. Her legs were gone for one reason or another, probably due to the rotting process. The skin of her face clung reluctantly to her cheekbones, gray with the effort, and her hair had all but left her. Her eyes were white, and her teeth were bared by her receding lip. The shreds of a plastic apron slid along beneath her. The moment he turned, she leaped, throwing herself at his shins. With a swipe of his shaking hand he was able to deflect her. This delayed her for a moment as she recovered herself, giving him a chance to make a run for the door, but he had to turn around a second time in order to avoid getting the back of his leg ripped off. That time, he was able to escape and shut the door behind him. There was a thump as the undead cook slammed herself against the door, but then all was silent again. Felix booked it out of the hospital and back to the RV without a second thought.

Though proud of his haul, Felix was still shaking as he meandered through the city. He still wanted some supplies, yes, but he wasn't by any means willing to fight off another zombie in order to get them. He was looking for an easy grab - some toilet paper left on the curb, or an abandoned first aid kit, or a water leak. But no such luck, and it didn't surprise him one little bit. For the next few hours, he coasted his way through the city to conserve gas. Though he had a whole lot of it, every drop was valuable. That, and he was waiting for an opportunity to present itself.

And what luck - it did.

Felix didn't really hear the noise all too well. To him, it was just a very distant pop, perhaps the sound of a confused clicker wandering off the edge of a building. He could have never found the source of the noise going on nothing but that one brief sound. Ironically, it was the zombies that helped him. The clickers in the area suddenly reared their heads, cocking their sensitive ears to the sound. Then, they went running, all in the same direction. Curious and lacking anything of greater importance to do, Felix turned the RV around and followed them.

Every clicker within earshot had gathered at the base of a tall building, forming a mob of sorts. Being the savages that they were, any odd noise sent them running. The distance of whatever had made that noise (Felix was betting a gunshot) was no match for their superior hearing. But whomever had made the noise had an advantage over the zombies. It had been a gunshot, he decided. Nothing else was loud enough. Zombies didn't use guns. Nothing used guns but humans.
Humans. There were humans in that building. The thought breathed life into his dwindling sense of hope.

The clickers clung to the base of the building like fans at a rock concert hugging the barrier. All of the clickers in the area had amassed there, so those who hadn't heard the gunshot weren't present. Therefore, Felix reasoned, no more would come, as nothing that he could do would make a noise louder than a gunshot, which would attract clickers from a wider area. He could take them all out, right then and there. It took all of his nerve, all of his strength of heart and stomach, but he did. He drove around the base of the building, wiping out the clickers on each side. They crunched under the wheels of his RV, and Felix fought the urge to cry and vomit. One side at a time, he leveled their ranks, leaving a pile of half-festering flesh and bones where the mob of clickers once stood.
God, Felix thought helplessly to himself. If they weren't dead already, this would be mass murder. These are someone's children, all of them. Oh my gosh, that was a kid I just ran over. Dear God, dear God...

Felix had managed to not throw up, but he was quite literally crying by the time he finished. There was hope, though. Maybe, just maybe, there were people inside that building. He could only hope that they would want to team up. If only they would, he would never, ever leave them. Only one way to find out. He parked the RV by the entrance to the building, hoped they had seen, and waited.
