How to make a Claymore
The Island of Arouet is far larger than Sutare (the home island of canon Claymore) and subsequently has more active Claymore. This larger roster in turn requites more candidates. A commonality between Arouet and Sutare, however, is the high mortality rate of Claymore candidates. Any given year may have thirty or forty candidates in a "class" of Claymore, but it is rare for more than ten to graduate. Even after candidates become Claymore, they are rarely immediately given a number. Most are placed under the tutelage of a senior Claymore, often ranking between fifteen and forty, to continue their training until they are deemed suitable for individual field missions.

As a rule in Arouet, Claymore candidates are taken in as children and favorably as young as possible. It is uncommon for a child to be considered for Claymore training beyond the age of six or seven, but it is not unheard of. Arouet also has a system for evaluating the likelihood of a successful hybridization using an attenuated strain of the parasite used to create Yoma. When anyone with a low likelihood of successful hybridization is infected, they will show flu-like symptoms with varying severity (death is extremely rare); however, a subject with a high likelihood of hybridization will show no signs of illness. It is standard practice for the Organization to travel to villages across the island, generally every few years, in an attempt to recruit subjects via this method. Even those that are older and survive it may be taken to the Capitol of Voltaire and taught a trade with the actual intention of creating pairs likely to have children capable of being used for Claymore experiments.

In many ways, Arouet is far more advanced than Sutare ever was. In many ways, it is quite the same. While the methods of choosing what Yoma flesh is used for a candidate may differ, the Claymore is still left with a never-healing wound known as a stigma. Described as a "hideous deformation that scares most those who see it," this stigma is the true sign of a Claymore. Male Claymore are given their stigma slightly earlier at age ten and sterilized simultaneously to minimize the urges associated with Awakening; female Claymore are traditionally given their stigma around their twelfth birthday, a process that also leaves them sterile. The process afterwards is described as the most pain these individuals will ever feel in their lives, but most survive at this point. Those with the best hybridization gain porcelain skin, fair hair ranging from white to blond, and may even develop elf-like ears or permanently retain their silver eyes. It is rare for even the poorest hybrids to retain dark skin or hair, and those that do are often considerably weaker than their counterparts.

The years that follow are spent training together in groups called "classes" with Claymore of a similar age. This is done at a set of camps owned by the Organization in the southernmost lands of Arouet. There, Claymore learn swordsmanship and how to utilize their new bodies. While some may even tap into the surface level of their Yoki, very rarely do they learn how to do this in their initial years. These Claymore are kept for as long as deemed needed, evaluated for graduation yearly, and held back if need be. Alongside the approval of the assessors, each student must be part of or individually complete a mission given to them. Upon graduation, they are assigned to a senior Claymore and work under their rank. Arouet rarely pits their Claymore against each other, factually minimizing competition at all levels.

Guidelines for Creation
Most characters should be wrote and designed to start out in part of a graduating group to be placed under a senior Claymore, although upon request, I may pick a different time. I don't intend on permitting characters to play out in the student years... simply because that's not the direction I was GM in. These characters will generally be between 17 - 19 years of age. While the fledgling, defining traits of these characters may be present, they should not be overly developed or innately powerful yet. I also provided the "general" backstory for most Claymore candidates, but if an idea is present outside of them, please do present it.

I'm all for creativity and expression, but I also like room to grow. I would like to see the story of these Claymore as they grow in this new setting. That said, I'm not opposed to some dedicated players making additional characters later that are somewhat further ahead in terms of individual progression than the initial plotline. I intend on somewhat tailoring story components to the characters in play regardless, so while there will be overarching plot elements, it won't be overly centralized to the extent of only having one relevant group.

This is just a basic sheet. They may be altered as long as all relevant information is contained.

Alexander " The Steadfast" | Male | 20

Personality: He is a person of deep rooted faith. Loyal and steadfast. To his friends and comrads he takes personal responsibility of their safety and survival, often enough putting himself at risk so others would have a chance to live. During combat he is very firm and unwavering and absolutely determined to survive and obtain victory, earning him the title of Steadfast. Furthermore, he is polite and respectful to said friends and allies. He associates himself to be more human, frankly he clings to his humanity and he is rather fearful of the infection that has made him supernatural and only taps into the strengths of his Yoki as a final means to defend himself or others. Even then he believes a bit more of his humanity dies as it reminds him that he indeed is not human and that he has betrayed his order and faith.

History: He has come from humble beginnings as he was the son of a blacksmith. whom mostly fashioned tools, horseshoes, nails and other simple products. They were not rich but but were not terribly impoverished either. However his father wanted Alex to strive for something more. He wanted his son to grow to be better and actually have meaning and purpose in life, not just to survive. His father taught him that their god favors and encourages those to be in the service of others; to uphold and defend the weak, be charitable, be firm yet fair. As prime example he references the Templars and tells him stories of their heroics. What he was really doing was inspiring Alex and steering him to wanting to join their order, and indeed he did.

Alex first came into the services of the order when he was 9 years old and became a squire of sorts. He performed the usual tasks that were required of someone of such a status. Furthermore we was dedicated to one Templar whom was a master bowman duel wielded smaller sword if not just a regular bastard sword. The knight in question wasnt really one of strong stature, or really looked intimidating. However, his hands were steady and his aim true. On top of his superior marksmanship skills he was a master of parrying and counter attacks. When he fought, every move had a purpose and tactic for the overall strategy. No matter the strength of his opponent, he never showed fear or gave ground until the last possible moment and he taught these skills to his squire.

At age twelve, Alex was well on his way in his training as an initiate. However, disaster would strike as his order got word from their Church that a village 3 days ride from the temple was attacked by Yoma and they were to assists knights and other military forces from the ruling noble. The additional order was to kill the remaining survivors and burn all the corpses to provide complete containment of infection. They did not hesitate to deploy, and even the initiates were deployed for combat. When they arrived and joined forces with their allies, they marched onto the village to find that it was completely deserted and buildings were stained with old blood. Just as they realized they were too late the Yoma launched an ambushed and bloody battle ensued. Alex and his master immediately displayed courage and strength as they faced down few of the monsters by themselves, launching arrows in calculated spread patterns to give the best chances of hitting their targets before engaging in close combat. The end result was a marginal victory. The Yoma threat was dealt with but it came at a great cost. Their allies were completely wiped out and less than a dozen of their chapter remained.

Following the orders of the Church they burned the bodies and for good measure burned the remaining buildings to the ground before returning to their temple. However, misfortune would plauge them one last time. They have discovered that they too were infected and some were turning quicker than others. Less they risk of turning into Yoma and spreading the parasite themselves, they agreed to execute each other and have their remains burned. All except for one, the squire and initiate Alex. He did indeed came into direct contact with the infected but wasnt showing any signs of being infected and convinced the others that his death was not needed. He would end up having to burn the remains of his friends and comrads. He remained at the temple and up kept the sacred monastery. He didnt know how much time has passed, all he knew that he grew more hopeless with each passing day and began to feel as if his faith had abandoned or cursed him. That was until a Claymore came to investigate what happened and found the boy alone and scared. She could see that he is a carrier of the parasite but did not show any signs or symptoms of turning. So she offered him to take him back where he can be trained to become a Claymore as well and be given purpose and meaning in his life once more, the alternative would be execution on the spot. With this he found hope and thought of this as devine providence and therefore accepted the offer.

Fighting Style: In opening fights or ambushes from a medium to long distance he would utilize a massive bow and arrows to assault his enemies with to manipulate their movement if not outright hit and kill them. and close quarters combat he utilizes his templar master's techniques of parrying, deflection and countering with quick strikes of his bastard and short swords. He is primarily more defense and moves light and swiftly on his feet all the while deflecting to tire his opponents before exposing a vulnerable opening
