Name: Chest

Age: 1500 years

Starting Location: In the middle of a forest near a crumbling tower.

Bio: Chest used to just be another mimic chest on the tenth floor of a tower dungeon, sitting there, waiting for someone to fall into its trap. Adventurers came and went, some getting eaten by the mimics, some getting killed by other monsters, many deciding that it wasn’t worth it and quitting before reaching the second level. It was quite a difficult dungeon, and, as a result, Chest hardly ever encountered anyone at all. Over the years, the tower became more and more decrepit with the forest around it becoming more and more wild, leading to less and less people coming to explore, or even knowing about it. Eventually, all information about that tower had been lost in time.

The tenth floor was occupied by very little – a few treasure chest mimics here and there, and maybe a giant spider or two – unless you’re counting the thousands upon thousands of books located here. The whole floor is taken up by a library, with subjects ranging from the ancient lore of the world, to a lost manuscript of the dark arts, to a novel about three large woodland creatures and a blond girl. And this library was enchanted so that the books would not age or become withered – after hundreds of years, they looked the same as they had when they were brought in.

This was the environment that Chest awoke to.

Over the next several days, Chest went through each and every one of those books, seeking an answer to its existence and its intelligence. Also because it was bored. It was a very fast reader. The other monsters ignored it and went along with their own business, whatever that might be. Chest was unable to get to a different level of the tower as the stairs had been completely turned to rubble, whether by passing adventurers or just time moving on, it didn’t know, so it was stuck on the one floor, its only experience of the outside world being through books and the various windows scattered throughout the level. One day, however, a tree fell over onto the tower, its uppermost leaves poking through a window on Level 10. Chest quickly took this opportunity to scramble outside, down the length of the trunk and onto the forest floor, ready to experience the wonders of the outside world.

Personality: Chest is a very unimaginative chest, as indicated by its chosen name, but is actually quite intelligent and knowledgeable of the world, due to all those books it had read. It is determined to learn everything about the world, taking in every bit of information it comes across. However, it is very slow to act, taking an unnecessarily long time before finally making a decision.

SPECIES

Species: Mimic

Species Description: Mimics are creatures that are born as genderless look-alikes of particular objects. They lie, waiting, for extended periods of time, only moving to feed off anything that comes close, usually incapable of feeling boredom. They generally have a very long lifespan, some reaching tens of thousands of years old, and need little food and no water or air to survive. It is unknown how they reproduce, or if they reproduce at all – they seem to just appear from nothing. Their physical appearance can vary wildly depending on the surrounding environment.

@IctoraPost mostly accepted. Our characters gained their sentience in almost same time, so he couldn't start being sentient from years ago. Days at most.
