There are two sides to Bruce Wayne. On the outside, he is a playboy billionaire. He's charitable and one of the most eligible bachelors in Gotham City. This is just a rouse though. He puts on this facade to cover up his deep hatred for Gotham an it's crime filled streets. When he is Batman, he is cold and calculating. He's highly intelligent and serious. Despite his seriousness, he's not completely cold. He is still a good father to all of his sons and constantly worries about their safety.
Backstory:
While walking home from the theatre one night, Bruce Wayne witnessed his mother and father shot down by a mugger in what is now known as crime alley. From that night on, Bruce Wayne swore to avenge his parent's deaths. He trained for many years, until finally he was finally able to take on crime itself. He was physically and mentally brilliant, studying martial arts, deduction, and criminal psychology. With the help of his butler, Alfred, and his weapons expert Lucius Fox, Bruce created an alter ego for himself: Batman. He fought alone for a few years, but after witnessing the deaths of the Flying Graysons, he took on their son, Dick Grayson as his ward, and soon after that, his sidekick Robin. He'd raise not only him, but a second and third robin as well as the second batgirl, and lastly the fourth Robin, his son. With his new found family, he patrols the streets of Gotham, taking on some of its nastiest criminals, such as mob bosses, Scarecrow, the Riddler, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, and the Joker.

Inspired by seeing Batman in action in his early days, Selina adopted the persona of Catwoman as a way to exploit those she saw exploiting so many other. Catwoman made her wealthy, she entered Gotham's social elite, dining and dancing with the same people from whom she was stealing.
