-HxH is dark, but don't use that as an excuse to make super edgy characters with super tragic backstories. If you think you can do it well, however, feel free to have a painful past.
-Let your past define your goals, and your goals define your personality. For example, Killua's main goal is to escape his family's traditions, so he acts cheeky and mischievous to seperate himself from his family's stoic nature.
-Worldbuild in your backstory (within reason). While it is tempting to have your character simply be from Meteor City, feel free to create somthing new. Your character could be from a strange clan with strange traditions, or an island with unique flora and fauna.
-Be unique. Look at other CSs beforehand, and make sure your not just making a clone of somone else.
