Fantasy Carlisle Academy of Magical Arts Lore

Bellatsakha

Killer Clown
A bit about the school:

The Carlisle Academy of Magic Arts (CAMA) is a private boarding school that only accepts the elite (or people from parents who make very generous donations, but we don’t talk about that). Most parents have to pay a steep fee unless their child gets a scholarship. There are plenty of other magic schools around so there are only a couple of hundred students.

The building is split into four houses and the main building, where they go for classes. There is a lot of land surrounding it where there are tennis courts, sports grounds, large indoor and outdoor training grounds and stables. It’s hidden behind a tall brick wall and a bubble of enchantments so no-one can get in or out or see what’s going on inside, or if someone’s powers go wrong the outside world will be safe.

The inside is Victorian style as it hasn’t been renovated since it was built. The floors are dark mahogany and the walls are painted in dark emerald greens or navy blues and are all enchanted to be indestructible due to a lot of unfortunate mishaps with children’s powers. There are tall twirling pillars along the corridors and black carpets slung down the stairs. The ceilings are high and chandeliers light up all the classrooms and hallways.

The classrooms are rather small with 20 separate wood desks and a blackboard at the front, as well as a large teacher’s desk and curtains on all the windows that the teacher can close if the students are distracted. There’s a sprawling library with tables and sofas for students to sit and do their homework and music rooms, dance rooms and art rooms for extra-curricular activities.

The four houses are smaller buildings quite far away from where students live with their house mistresses and head of the house. Each house has around 80 students in it, 20 in each year and 4 years, meaning the school only has 320 students in total. There are 4 people per a large room and they’re allowed to decorate their side of the room however they want. Each class has its own house mistress, but they all listen to the head of the house, who is usually a master in whatever type of magic that house specializes in.

Magic is split into 4 categories: Elemental magic (ice, fire, wind, darkness, etc.), Transformation magic (animal transformation, transforming things into other things, etc.), Summoning (summoning weapons, animals, etc.) and Manipulation (reshaping things, manipulating people, manipulating yourself, etc.) Each section has different classes such as magical theory because the theories for each are different or immersing yourself in the elements for elemental students. There are some lessons they take together like magic control and how to make sure you don’t use too much in one move, math and sports and subjects like that because there are jobs that aren’t magical.

The school was created in the 11th century by a rich nobleman called Montgomery Carlisle who had a daughter who passed away because she couldn’t control her powers and accidentally set herself on fire. After that, he turned his stately home into a school where he employed the finest teachers to teach children. The school became bigger and bigger, every parent with a bit of money wanting their child to be taught by the best or the best and not the typical school teachers. They expanded the school and when Montgomery died, he passed it on to his deputy headmaster.

When the deputy was too old to run it, they had a vote on who would be the next headmaster. Eventually, the school was passed down to Headmaster Joseph Brixton, a bearded man in his 60s who used to be a student there. He’s always dressed in a suit and colorful patterned tie or vest and cares a lot about his students. He has the power to overrule anything a teacher says but doesn’t because he’s very close with his staff and trusts them which causes a little discontent amongst the students.

There are different teachers for each subject the classes have together and usually, the head of the house will do any specialized classes since they’re usually the most informed about the type of magic their students have. Teachers also give assignments where the student has to complete a task outside of the school, such as monster hunting or catching a criminal since the government is very interested in the school and allows them to do it as long as the school offers the correct type of training.

Missions can dramatically increase your grade in a class because it shows you have practical skills so most students really want to have those types of missions. There are lots of onsite doctors in case anything goes wrong. The higher year you’re in, the harder mission you get.

The typical school day starts at 7:30 am where the house mistress/master wakes everyone in their class and they have breakfast in their house before heading up to the main building for 9 am where they have two hour-long separate classes, then lunch in the hall and three more classes together. Then they can relax in the library or go back to their house or do extracurricular activities until 6 pm when they go back to their houses for dinner.

They get Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s and Halloween holidays, as well as a day off during the birthday of Montgomery Carlisle. Students can go home on weekends if they want to, but since people send their children there from all over the country, most choose to stay at school or go to the local town. There is a month holiday for summer when they have to go home.

The uniform is a black shirt, white blazer with red trim and dark red trousers or plaid skirt. They can choose whether to wear a tie or a ribbon, but it has to be in their house color so the staff doesn’t get mixed up. They usually don’t though since it’s such a small school. They’re very relaxed about the dress code and allow students to personalize it as long as it doesn’t go too far, but some of the nicer teachers will make exceptions as long as it's recognizable that it’s their school uniform.

Here are the classes and teachers (you can find their character profiles in the characters section):

Each separate house gets taught seperate magical theories and practical lessons by their head of house:
