Camp Creta Locations

Crater Lake- A huge lake in the middle of Comet Falls National Park. It's said that the area was once a forest of massive pines, but meteors had struck down and created a huge pit. Rain came down and started to fill the lake. Erosion took place on the high cliffs bordering the northern point of the lake and the river high above came rushing down into a permanent waterfall. Crater Lake has been filled to the brim with water ever since. Due to the lake being huge, it is commonly used as a canoe and swimming area for campers.

Blackcliffe Island- Blackcliffe Island is a huge island situated in Crater Lake. People have theorized that it was the one spot not hit by meteors, thus Blackcliffe is still standing with its steep cliffs and huge heights. Blackcliffe got its name from the massive scale of, you guessed it, black cliffs. The island had been in the blast zone for the meteors and thus from the blast and fires it coated the rocks of the cliffs black. Massive pines still stand on the island. Counselors never let the kids go to Blackcliffe Island, it is an area that is severely off limits and could lead to serious repercussions if campers ever intentionally landed on its shores.

The Waterfall- There’s a common superstition that the counselors and older campers like to tell the newbies. The monster of Crater Lake and its secret home in the waterfall. Basically the camp’s version of the Loch Ness, this monster is said to make its home in a system of caverns behind the waterfall. However, the waters around the waterfall are so rapid that no canoe or boat could ever reach it. Thus, the legend surrounding Crater Lake and its waterfall have been left as just that, a legend.

Cabins- A collection of different cabins made of wooden logs arranged in a semi-circle. Each cabin faces off against each other during group activities. A point system is in place and goes for the duration of the summer. Prizes are awarded at the end to each cabin based on their points. Prizes and advantages can also be won during the duration of the campers’ stay. Individual members of a cabin can impact each cabin’s score and help them win or lose points based on their actions. For example, neglect of one’s dinosaur is a fast track to losing points.

Counselors sleep in a different area of cabins that campers are not allowed in unless told otherwise. Each counselor gets their own cabin, resulting in newer or vacant cabins depending on how many counselors are at camp. These cabins also double as offices for the counselors.

Campfire- Situated in the middle of the cabins is a ring of logs arranged around a campfire. The campfire will usually always be lit at night, besides after bedtime, and counselors will lead sing alongs sometimes. At other times, campers are allowed to sit around it in their own activities that usually involve the roasting of marshmallows.

Mess Hall- The mess hall is a huge building with tables and benches for eating and chatting. Tables are sectioned by cabins but intermingeling is also allowed. The kitchen is wide open for campers to use to prepare their dinosaurs daily meals. It is both encouraged and mandatory for the campers to provide their dinosaur with three meals a day, hand prepared by them.

Nursery- Due to the unfortunate death of babies by their mother in the early days of the camp, measures have been taken to make sure any babies born are safe and sound. That’s why a clutch of eggs will be taken to the nursery right after they are laid. There they undergo an incubation period and eventually hatch. Babies stay in the nursery until they are yearlings or until they can be safely reintroduced into the habitat. This is both for their safety and so they are more familiar with human handling which makes for a much less aggressive dinosaur. The nursery is painted with soft colors and makes sure to simulate the habitat of that dinosaur so they will not be overwhelmed upon reintroduction.

Dinosaur Habitats- As Comet Falls is a national park, there are huge amounts of wildlands surrounding the camp’s area that act as habitats for the dinosaur residents. The land is sectioned by species and there is no intermingling among dinosaur species due to the risk of predation and fighting. Each section is tailored to the specific dinosaur species. The forests are divided based on dinosaurs that live there, same with the more mountainous areas of the region, and flying dinosaurs take up residence in big versions of canary cages while they’re sleeping. Dinosaurs are allowed to roam freely in a common area as long as there are supervisors watching. That’s when interspecies mingling is allowed.
