♚. Folklore : The mythical white stag is known to appear in the lands of Avalonia.
♚. Location: Avalonia spans over the 52,065 square kilometers of Bohemia. It is a beautiful country with a landscape that is very varied. To the west are low mountains that are connected by the Sedahorni ( Avalonian for "grey rock" ) mountain range in a crescent that curves close to the kingdom's lower border, dividing it from its neighbour Avalarion. Many valleys and lakes lie between the mountains and hills and gives source to the main river Nuhlan (Avalonian for "mother river") that splits and flows into Avalarion and several other surrounding countries.
All across Avalonia, there is a wide variety of landscapes, all of which hold a kind of natural beauty. There are rolling hills surrounding the city of Ceske and temperate deciduous forests by which the townspeople of Kamrun. Great river valleys are carved from river Nuhlan and give source to fertile grounds for farming and agriculture. There are the northern foothills, cliffs and rocky mountains that are dotted with light posts and fortresses that protect and guard Avalonia from threats coming from the north.
Though, everything changes as the temperature drops and snow rains down from endless cloudy skies. The land becomes covered in a thick layer of white and time seems to stop in the small country. The rivers freeze up, the son has gone into hiding and all life seems to have disappeared from sight. Still, there is a kind of beauty as the snowflakes spiral down from the heavens and the frost grows upon glass as if touched by some magical spirit.
Mistokral : Castle District
The Capital city Mistokral ( Avalonian for "place of kings") and is situated in South Eastern Avalonia where the Eastern end of the Sedahorni mountain range lies. Rosenberg Castle overlooks the capital, located high on the slope of the hill around which river Nuhlan curves before flowing south through the river valley. All around the capital, one can see adorning the doorways, the buildings and various infrastructure, five-petal roses which are the symbol of the Rosenberg Dynasty. As the city and its population grew, infrastructure was set up on the nearest shore across the river and connected by a bridge to the main portion of the capital. Farmlands have been cultivated farther out where there is lots of space to grow produce and tend cattle in order to supply the city. Two other bridges connect the city to the the other shores where roads branch out into the rest of the country.
♚. Society: Avalonia is the type of country that feels like home. It is a small country where its people live quite comfortably in cities, towns and communities that branch out north and west from the Capital of Mistokral, all connected by a web of roads and thoroughfares. The population is very small in comparison to their neighbors due to a harsh winter than claimed many lives in Alexei's grand father's time almost half a century before.
Though widespread, a close network of governing holds the country together with the Queen at its head. Each member of the royal family under her Majesty is responsible for their own part of the kingdom. As of now, Alexei and his siblings have no territories as he will soon take over the role of King and manage Mistokral in place of his mother while his younger sister and brother are still too young. Years of mismanagement have given way to corruption have taken route in the family while and inferior and lacking military has left the kingdom vulnerable to invasion, especially from the north and east where there are no large cities to protect the smaller villages and towns. All these factors resulted in the kingdom's decline, something Prince Alexei intends to fix.
Though as of recent years, no place goes under the radar. Annually the crown prince, or any other immediate member of the Royal family, travels across the kingdom to each of the cities and towns not only to inspect the living conditions of the people and gather information on the area but also to continuously restore the faith of the population in their Rulers. In order to restore the kingdom and royalty, this tradition was started 3 years ago under the orders of Crown Prince Alexei.
The royal family prides itself in the unity of the kingdom with its people, especially in times of darkness. The strength is with the people, especially when against the world and enemies to their country. Every year, many festivals are held all around the country that bring together its people in song and dance with food and drink. The Rosenberg's are required to attend the festivals in Mistokral and all people in areas of management must support the festivities held in their own areas.
Though Avalonia is a shadow of its former self under King Konrad, Alexei and his siblings are working to return it to its previous glory.
♚. Occupation:
Though a tiny kingdom in comparison to its neighbours, Avalonia flourished under the reign of Alexei's father, Late King Konrad Johannes Eugen Rosenberg and the country had become a centre of knowledge due to its geological location in the middle of the land mass as well as the Great Library in Mistokral, a heavily protected and treasured Archive of books and information from centuries before. The country has also become greatly influencial in the arts and academics, having birthed and cultivated many of the greatest minds of the century.
Most of the industry in Avalonia comes from its arts and culture. The country is quite famous for its beautiful architecture and many beautiful monuments and historical sites. These, put together with the ever changing landscapes of the kingdom brings in many visitors to the country on holiday. This in turns gives source to much of the annual income which increased upon the restoration of Rosenberg castle two years back and a few other iconic buildings.
There are many guilds and houses in Avalonia, all home to artisans of all kinds of crafts. Due to the importance placed on the arts under Queen Anaztasie's rule, talented artisans had much support and means of cultivating their skills which in turn add to the beauty of the country whether it is through breath taking art, haunting music or any other possible craft. There was also a heavy emphasis on individual performance and improvement.
Those who used their skills for making a small but comfortable living in the towns contributed to about 40% of the consumer market through medicine, alchemy, craft, equipment forging, tailoring and culinary arts, just to name a few. The rest of the market is taken by agricultural goods as farmers work hard to make as much produce to feed the kingdom throughout the year, especially during winter when no crops would grow and no cattle would survive out in the harshest of winters.
Though Avalonia is a flourishing kingdom, its military has sunken into disrepair. Already a small kingdom with few people and an inferior army, their armed forces continued to weaken under Queen Anaztasie's reign due to a shift in priorities. Due to such, the kingdom relies on its significance as a epicenter of knowledge, history, culture and influence as well as it's neighbors and allies to protect itself from potential threats.
Already, due to their lack of self protection, enemies in the north and east have begun to chip away at Avalonia bit by bit, putting in danger the villages on the outskirts which are spread few and far between. Thankfully, Princess Renata Miroslava Iva Rosenberg, Alexei's younger sister has grown to take interest in military affairs and management and is notably a natural tactician and strategist. With her help, Crown Prince Alexei may be able to rally and improve their armed forces and protect their kingdom.
♚. Religion: Commonly Christianity, but due to the strife in recent years, religion has lost some of its place in everyday life. Currently, there is no law on adhering to Christianity or any other religion. The population is free to practice whatever they wish, or not at all, as long as they do not interfere with the lives of other citizens of Avalonia. The Rosenberg's still adhere to many beliefs of Christianity, though later generations have been more preoccupied with other things besides religion.
Each child born in the last 38 years has received a birthstone with the engraving of the five petal rose, the Rosenberg family's insignia, carved into the stone. Each gift is
a symbol of the child's right, belonging and loyalty to Avalonia. This reinforces the unspoken law that all children of the kingdom grow up to know by heart : ones country, ones family and ones home before oneself.
