Beyond the Barrier

kage thought for a moment and felt as if he should use the blood pact to his advantage. he then systematically reformed into a complete human form. "alright vampire. i will go along with this blood pact. how do we do this?" kage knew he should stay but he needed to check back on the others in-case something else tried to attack the group. his left arm was the last thing to turn from weapon to human before his eyes returned to normal.

"Come." Jasper beckoned still using his sweet voice. He watched warily as Kage dismantled his incredible array of weaponry and Jasper waited until Kage was fully reverted before he realized that Kage was making himself vulnerable. A thousand flurried thoughts passed through Jasper's mind but he silenced them immediately by forming a plan.

He didn't doubt that either Verjouhl or Gwenhara were nearby probably just watching so he placed his gun out of Willow's reach should she somehow free herself in these few precious seconds.

Jasper cut into the arm that he could hardly move due to the fact it was attached to his wounded shoulder and made a groove into the ground and spilled some blood in it.

"Fetch me that flower over there?" he asked Kage almost normally. He was going to complete the blood pact with Kage, but that was only because he wanted to be left alone. Kage would never leave him alone. When the ritual was done Jasper would kill Kage. Hopefully the fact that he had completed the pact and guaranteed the safety of Willow would be enough for Gwenhara or Verjouhl to be satisfied. Surely they knew that if they made an attempt on Jasper's life after Kage was disposed of he would then kill Willow and proceed to die on his own terms when the pact he had made burned him to a crisp.

He was walking a delicate line. Because he only had the one hand functional he had to lay down the gun and leave himself nearly defenseless. Hopefully because of how volatile and manic he was would not lead whoever had followed him to retaliate. Jasper knew that Gwenhara and Verjouhl were intelligent and he hoped that he could depend on them to react with regard to Willow's life and he hoped that the pact would be enough. If he even gave her so much as a bruise it would cost his life.

kage did as told. he got the flower and handed it to jasper all the while keeping watch around him. he let down his gaurd when he handed the flour to jasper for he was stareing directly at the grove trying to figure out which clan jasper was destined to. he spoke no words just stood there thinking. roma? keeori? he did not know so he kept thinking while waiting for the next step in the pact.

Alice

She felt a cold liquid dribble down her throat and she reflexively swallowed. She could feel again? Relief punctured through her and she tried to figure out what had just happened to hear. Alice tried to speak but a strange noise escaped her like the last attempt. It was better than her last try so she attempted to clear her throat and instead she coughed. From her medical training she was aware that coughing was good, she was clearing her airway of any debris.

"What happened?" she managed to choke out and she blearily tried to open her eyes. She felt as if she had been hit with a train.

Jasper

Jasper dropped the flower into the groove that he had made and he poured more of his own blood over the flower now. It seemed like a waste since he had just gotten the blood from that other girl but he was honestly a little relieved to be purging more of it from his system. Now was not the time for this sort of action.

The next part of the pact were the ancient words and Jasper practically yelled them hoping to impress that he was making a genuine pact for Willow's safety. He did it more for the possible listeners. Once he had finished the incantation over the bloodied flower. He twirled the knife he had cut himself with.

"All we need is your blood." he murmured and without any hesitation he used it to kill Kage. Jasper was careful to make sure that his blood made it onto the flower before he allowed the body to fall. Once the deed had been finished he turned his attention back to his captive and picked up her gun readying himself should any retaliation arise. He now couldn't hurt his captive because of ancient residual magic, but hopefully this would now leave him alone with the girl.

"How about that water?" he returned to Willow wiping some of Kage's blood from his cheek and he promptly sucked it off of his finger as if he had eaten something delectable.

kage wasn't expecting the stab nor his own death. as the life drained from his body he made one last attempt to speak "live for the gate, die for the gate." was all he said before falling to the ground after jasper let him go. a light left his body and through the roof, as the light reached its intended hight, it burst in the sky as if a signal. kage quickly withered as if he had been dead for many years. his body had turned to dust, all except for a single bone made of a strange crystal with a strange message and the numbers 2-100 carved into it. the message read out *-the beginning and end of all things-*

((pretty good way to die i would say. anyway thanks for killing 'em off my new character is built and awaiting approval))

Gwenhara shook his head, but remained hidden. He would escort the two, or just Willow, back once the vampire was done. But otherwise, he was non-exsistant. The wind kept him from being noticed, whispering old secrets through the trees. Kage was better dead, more at peace, this way.

Verjouhi shook his head, making her drink a little more before answering, "Vampire attack...drained you...alright now." he said, looking at her quietly. "Feel...alright? Weak...pain? Anything?"

kyron was exploring the forest after rumors of a portal had reached him. a strange birdlike creature on his shoulder was his only company. "i know we're lost, you don't have to remind me." he said looking at the creature. it was at this time he saw the light explode in the sky. the bird like creature flew up and kyron ran toward the area of which the light came from. the birdlike creature made it first as it landed on the window ledge looking in at the a guy and a girl and then it noticed the bone crystal. it began to hit the window with its horn as if trying to break through. *tap tap tap tap* was the sound caused by the creature. it wanted inside. was it to get the crystal or something else? kyron made it to the area and proceeded to watch his birdlike creature friend from afar.

Willow lay almost clamly on the cot as Kage and the vampire talked out an agreement. She watched as the vampire took the flower and a knife, slitting his wrist over it. Willow had this strange sense of danger as soon as he grabbed the knife, but not for herself. She felt oddly confident that she wouldn't be hurt, maybe it was because the vampire made a blood oath, she wasn't sure. When the vampire was done, he twirled the knife and plunged it into Kage, rendering a killing blow. Willow sat up as much as she could, wrenching her shoulders and arms as well as her wrists in the process. Her eyes were wide, and her heart was pounding in fear, but she didn't scream. He just killed Kage. The one person who could have helped her get out of this, aside from herself, and he was dead now. She watched as a light rose from Kage's lifeless body and ascended through the roof. Once the light was gone, she looked at Kage's body and found it had completely disintegrated, all except a sort of bone-shaped crystal. She eyed it for a moment before looking at Jasper. She was hyperventilating now.

When Jasper asked her if she wanted water, she reacted automatically, without thinking. She spat in his face. Crap. Things had just gone from bad to worse.

((Oh Willow, you silly, silly girl -shakes head- ))

Alice

Alice felt a terrifying mixture of emotions rush through her before she remembered that this might not be a dream. She was in another world and the possibility that she had actually been attacked by a vampire could be true. She certainly felt as if she had been almost drained of blood. She could barely think and she was was feeling quite weak and even cold.

"Weak... Pain... Cold... Hungry... Thirsty..." she answered and she could only manage to speak in fractured sentences much like the man who was holding her. Had he been around when she had gone to bed to sleep? She couldn't remember... she couldn't remember much truthfully. She remembered the last thing she had eaten. The Turlax prepared by Kage... and that had not been sitting right in her stomach since she had eaten it hours ago.

Jasper

Jasper hissed at her noisily after she spit at him and it took all that he had not to strike her. He couldn't do that now. Not unless he wanted to realize Kage's earlier threat about feeling the uncensored heat of the sun and ironically he was dead. While his death had been amusing to him because it was the most unique death that he had ever caused, he had made Kage into some type of martyr by allowing his blood to seal the pact.

The next thing that he had almost done was to chastise the girl he had bound by telling her that it was a good thing that he couldn't harm because he might have destroyed her there for that defiant act but he restrained himself by rationalizing that she didn't need to know that she was practically untouchable.

He wondered if he was even being watched. That would be the slice on top of the cake for him. All that work to be undisturbed because he had guaranteed her safety and nobody was even around. He didn't let himself consider this idea any longer because it worried him.

Instead all Jasper allowed himself to do was to dig his nails into his ragged shoulder for a moment to prevent himself from being rash and after he wiped the spit from his eye.

"Amusing." he grimaced sourly and his mouth drew into a grim line. He wished he had kidnapped the other one. It probably would have been easier just to use her as a human shield. The blood had just made him frenzied and disoriented anyways instead of being the secret weapon that he thought that it would have been.

"Now, do we want to act as adults? All I need from you is one answer. It won't affect you at all. All I want to know is where is this barrier into your world?"

The birdlike creature of kyron's begain to ram the window causeing it to crack. after a short while of this the window shattered and the bird creature was inside the building and landed near the bone crystal. at that point kyron knew that there was something important in the building. he begain to get up and sneak up to the building when he heard a sharp sound. it sounded like the roar of a dragon combined with the squeak of a mouse. it was so high pitched that any glass that wasn't shattered was now. the little birdlike creature was screeching at jasper for he was a bit to close to the crystal on the ground. kyron was looking through the window at this holding in a giggle at this point. kyron knew that no one around here knew what kind of animal the creature was and was now waiting to see if this man would take it as a threat or as an annoyance.

Verjouhi only nodded, understanding her fractured sentances more than he would have full ones. It was how he spoke, after all. He kept things simple. With a flick of his wrist, he had unclasped the cloak from around his neck and tossed it over her shoulder, his bare skin painted with old scars beneath it. Any other time, he wouldn't have shed his cloak, but there was nothing near warm, and it would take time to create a fire. And, cold was the easiest thing to deal with at the moment.

He put the water bottle in her hand and said, "Drink...I get...food..." His voice was soft and, once he was sure she could sit up on her own, he went to the left over Torax and cut some of the meat away. A shame about Kage really. Gwenhara's message on the wind had not gone unnoticed by the man, but he had more pressing issues. He went back to Alice and lit a small fire, placing the meat directly in the flame on a stone.

After a few moments, he lifted the meat and offered it to her, the heat from it not really bothering his toughened hands. "Here, eat..."

Willow watched the vampire as he glared at her. She really regretted spitting at him, but she couldn't have stopped even if she tried. It was simply a knee-jerk reaction. Probably from years of putting up with overbearing men in the military. A girl had to show some defience somehow. Willow was actually really surprised that he didn't react other then to ask her a question. She watched him warily, debating whether or not she should answer his question.

Willow figured that if he went through all of this just to ask her where the barrier was, then he really had something planned for whoever lay on the other side. She wasn't sure what he wanted, but she knew without a doubt that she wasn't goig to tell him anything. Fortunately before she could answer with a sarcastic little quip, something broke the glass of the window and a a bird landed on the floor next to the crystal-like bone that remained from Kage. She looked at it quizically before it started a sort of siren-like call. Alright, she jumped, don't laugh. She wasn't expecting the thing to start screeching loud enough to crack glass. Crining into the side of the bed, she looked at the small bird and thought, how in the hell could such a small creature make such a loud wailing noise?

Alice

She glanced up at her saviour gratefully and a slight edge of suspicion finally managed to penetrate through the general haze that she had been in. She barely knew her own team yet alone this man who had taken it upon himself to nurse her back to health and had offered his cloak when she had never asked for it. Sure, she said she had been cold, but she wasn't expecting him to tend to her needs as if she was a child... which wasn't such a bad description considering how ill she felt. Alice felt as if her health was improving rapidly however.

"Why?" she asked and she wondered briefly if he was going to think that she was inquiring about why she should eat so she purposefully took his offering of food into her mouth and she managed to lift up her arms to accept the food first so she wasn't fed like some sort of animal at a petting zoo. She glanced up at Verjouhl and offered the strongest smile that she could manage at this point. She was about to reiterate her question when Alice stopped herself, judging by this man's speech she didn't need to flood him with language. She felt that less was more and let her single syllable hover in the air as she waited expectantly to find out why he was in the process of saving her life.

Jasper

Jasper regarded the bird curiously when it dropped in and landed next to the bizarre remains of Kage. He was content to ignore it before it started shrilly crying... no screaming was more of an apt word for the noise that it emitted.

"Can't I get just one moment?" he groaned exasperatedly and he turned away from the bird with a sense of irritation washing over him. He just wanted one moment, this wasn't supposed to be a tough task and as many times as he had pictured the scenario in his mind he was in the human world before the sun rose. The bird had shattered all of his windows which meant that any longer and he would have to relocate to the basement. The windows had offered ample protection from the sun's rays but the remains of the windows were shattered across the floor with only a few shards jutting up from the windowsill like mocking jagged teeth.

Jasper returned his attention to Willow trying his best to ignore the cries of the bird and he glared at her purposefully, "You haven't answered my question." he responded almost monotonously not willing to let any of his expressions flicker onto his face. Hoping that they would prove to be a negotiation point Jasper curled back his upper lip in contempt revealing his sharp canine teeth. He hoped to impress on her that he was not human and that he posed a threat. The fact that he was vampire meant that he could still function from the wound in his shoulder and that the wound did not bleed. Certainly something about him would prove frightening to the girl or at the very least make her feel threatened... then again it looked like he had chosen a human of tougher stock than average.

Verjouhi thought of his answer, really thought, then pointed to a crest shaped scar on his neck. A bit mark that matched Alice's to a T, created by the same vampire. "I know...Jasper...lost his brother...in your world...rage, pain...he knows all..." Verjouhi shook his head, building up the fire now. He paused for a long time, thinking more. "I can't...blame him...when all he...knows of your...world is...pain and loss...and bloodlust..." As the fire grew, his scars were painted in a grim light cast by it. They told his story, the one from both worlds, but he never gave his story a voice. Never wanted too. "So...when he messes...up, I fix...what he's...done."

the birdlike creature grabbed the bone crystal and flew back out the window landing on kyron's shoulder again. kyron took the crystal from it and placed it in his pocket before he noticed the girl tied to the bed. "a human...so the rumors are true." he said to himself before jumping through the window himself. he looked at the girl then at the man standing above her. kyron begain laughing as he realized what was going on. "h-hold on" he said as he caught his breath.. "its kinda funny. when the bone holder died it lead me right to this place and i find a vampire with a human tied up." kyron with his goofy smile was staring straight at jasper. his voice carried a tone that sent shivers up peoples spines and yet it sounded joyful at the same time. as kyron was talking the birdlike creature flew over to willow and begain biting on her bindings. "care to tell me how you caught a military human in this world?"

Alice

She glanced at Verjouhl's scar and she wanted nothing more than to feel her own neck. It was a frightening idea that she had a wound that probably matched his on her neck right now, but instead she reached out without thinking and brushed her fingers along Verjouhl's neck and along the crescent-shaped scar.

"That's awful." she murmured upon hearing his words. She was disheartened to hear that he had taken it upon himself to clean after the messes made by another person and especially one who seemed to be so violent. She didn't know much more about the vampire except what Verjouhl had told her and her own frightening first-hand experience so Alice couldn't help but to dislike Jasper despite the smallest sliver of sympathy. She didn't have any siblings so she couldn't possibly understand any of the possible pain.

"Thank you... Alice." she added giving him a name for herself and hoping that he would provide her with his name. She wanted to at least know the name of this man. It hurt when she spoke because of the wound she had sustained so she opted for few words and she wondered if her vocal cords had been damaged. All of her medical training and it was made useless because she was the one who got injured...

Jasper

Jasper sighed exasperatedly glancing at his latest visitor, "Care to tell me why you even care?" he glanced back down, "Maybe she's my wife hmm?" and he waved the bird away he was biting at his bindings. He had been left in solitude for so many years so why now did everyone seem to have taken an interest in him? Certainly his own tribe had essentially shunned him although he was quite surprised that he hadn't begun to draw them out with the scent of blood he had spilled back at their camp and with the scent of Willow tied up so close to their camp. Jasper thought of Kage's bizarre remains and concluded that stranger things had happened to him.

Verjouhi stiffened at her touch, but softened up after a moment. He wasn't used to human constant was all and he had no interest in it to be honest. "Not so bad...gives me something...to do." He watched the flames a moment after she said thank you, and gave her name, and debated with himself. He never told his name...and he wasn't starting now.

"Welcome...Ranger." He said, giving her the name he'd given himself. Only Gwenhara knew his name and that was the end of it. And Ranger was easy to say. "Vocal cords alright...just sore from...artery thinning...next to it... Same thing...with me. Be better...in morning."

kyron was trying not to laugh as his birdlike creature spit a green flame at jasper when he tried to shoo it away. "well for one thing, she couldn't be your wife." he said with his strange tone of voice. "judging from the perspective of her aura, she doesn't like you very much. from your aura i see you have a blood seal that prevents you from harming her without killing yourself...again." kyron snickered when he said *again*. he was finding the slightest amount of joy reading the energy around these two. "so why don't we stop lying to each other and get to the point of the portal you dragged her through." kyron was trying to get a reaction from jasper. he didn't know why but both his and willows aura interested him and he wanted to try and keep the "mysterious" act up for as long as he could.

s

Willow glared at Jasper and was about to answer him when a man came through the window, following the bird. She watched him warily, wondering if he was friend or foe. At first she figured foe considered he started to laugh, but then the bird thing started to cut her loose. She then felt like he was a friend, though a part of her was still wary. When Jasper claimed that she could have been his wife, she snorted.

"Yeah, sorry sweetheart, not into the kinky stuff." She said the same time the other man spoke. She looked at him and eyed him warily. He could read auras huh? She honestly thought it was neat and was fairly impressed. Yeah, she was being held captive by a vampire and found it impressive that some random guy knew how she felt. Any idiot walking in could have seen that she didn't like Jasper. When she found out about the blood seal, Willow felt a bit more confident. He couldn't hurt her, and if he did, he'd die. Well, Willow would just have to get him to do somehting rash.

Willow turned to the guy and cleared her throat, "Uh, actually he didn't drag me through. I came through-" She stopped herself before she could add that there were others with her. Better he think there was only her and not other people. For all she knew he could be in league with the vampire and was trying to get more information out of her. She kept her mouth shut, eyeing everyone in the room, while also trying to pay attention to the bird still tugging at the cords around her wrists.

kyron was thinking of ways to make this more interesting when he heard willow say she came through the portal on her own. he couldn't help but smile. "well now. that means you found an access point in your world. which one? Stonehenge, Giza pyramids, the Nazca lines or maybe Atlantis......." kyron was going on and on listing different places before he stopped himself. "wait, better not tell me. least not until we get you out of here and away from this guy." kyron said with a grin as the bird like creature broke through some of the bindings on willow. the creature made a softer sort of squeak as it managed to free her arms.
