Beyond the Barrier

"Such are...secrets, aren't they?" Verjouhi said, ignoring the verbal snarl Gwenhara gave Kage. Verjouhi didn't own the demon, no more than the demon owned him. He rolled his should just as carelessly as before. "You needn't worry...he'd only harm you...if you first harmed us..." It was a trade off situation, and one he was willing to bet on. Electrocution in the human world was once a form of exicution. Though firing squads were less messy, the end result was often the same. Death.

Kage couldn't really consider it honorable, however, to harm a technically unarmed man. Yes, he could pull his bow and have an arrow fly in less than three seconds, but as long as it wasn't in his hands, he was no more dangerous at this range than a human in the other world would be.

kage noted the scar on the demon's wing. "tell me demon what rank of angel wielded the sword?" his skin begain to calm. his voice, however, still carried the hostility it had with ranger and his facial expression turned to one without emotion. "or rather what kind of sword did the angel use?" kage was hopeing that the demon would do one of three things. shock him with electricity, speak of the angel and sword it used, or turn and leave the area. all of the outcomes played to his advantage even takeing into concideration that he turn the bolt on another or that ranger attacked instead all was in his calculations.

The one thing Kage probably didn't count on was no reaction at all. Gwenhara had long ago come to terms with his scar, his wound, his weakness. As long as he could fly, even for short times, he no longer worried with his disability. In fact, he absently spread his wings a little wider, letting the full scar show. From tip to where it connected with his back, his wing really shouldn't have been there, but it was. And the pendant hidden at his throat, beneath his fur and cloak, made sure he could fly. Verjouhi, being the man he was, didn't react either; as long as Gwenhara didn't react to such taunting, neither would he, and vice versa. If Kage want them to attack, he'd have to push the right buttons, and there wasn't that many.

Willow watched the three males go back and forth and it was becoming increasingly aware to Willow that the stand off was turning into a pissing contest. With an exasperated sigh, she lowered the gun somewhat and barked at the three.

"
Enough already!" She said severely. She turned to Ranger and his companion and glared openly at them.

"It doesn't matter what world you're from, you're still male. And that means you're a pain in the a**." She turned to Kage. "You too. I've had enough of this. If you three want to duke it out in the mud like 'men', go ahead, but do it somewhere else. People are trying to sleep." She motioned to the sleeping group. More annoyed now than wary, Willow slung the M-16 over her shoulder, but let her hand hang loose near her hip, where her .45 magnum was cradled in its holster.

Chris Andd

Chris was still sitting, silent, by the tree. He hadn't made a move since the two arrived. It didn't seem, to him anyway, that they were there for fighting, really. In fact, the only one that seemed fired up was the boy who had already been with them- Kage, he thought his name was. Him and Willow, which Chris wasn't surprised about. They looked to be the fighters of the group, anyway. Even if he did move to join the conversation, he wouldn't be much help. Useless in this type of situation, Chris was. He was more a study quietly type of guy then a negations type.

However Willow's latest angry speech had made Chris glance up. He watched as she huffed in exasperation and had to hide a grin. He didn't mind that she insulted his gender. He simply found it ironic that she was the one doing it. After all, not too long ago she'd been about to shoot everyone here. Trigger happy and calling the men idiots for wanting to throw down in the mud. Honestly, it was all just amusing for Chris to watch. The only sign of this, however, was the small grin on his face as he watched the proceedings.

A man began to walk towards a the conflict of the demon and humans. For this man had been following the humans, once they made contact with this demon he had been waiting afar to see what would occur. This man was no hero nor was he a villian, he fought for his own beliefs and desires, his name was Vulcan. Vulcan was content for a while watching the few go back and fourth until he became bored with the two and decided to make his appearance. Vulcan walked forwards wanting to make his voice heard, for earth was his home although it was a bit strange for this man to think that way considering he was a demi god. Born son of god of fire and forge while his mother was human. The man wore no armor but garbs upon his back. Black v neck shirt upon his chest with a blue silk scarf around his neck. A red cape fluttered in a breeze behind him. Black boots upon thy feet with black pants with a brown belt. Attached to this belt was his sword, forged by his father.

The man entered the presence of the others with his arms at his side and a grin upon his lips. The man had overwhelming confidence with could end up to his defeat or glorious victory either which he was ready to fight. Taking a step forwards he placed his left hand upon the hilt of his sword and spoke with a clear and bold voice. "My name is Vulcan". Vulcan turned his head towards the demon with the same grin upon his face."I'm tired of games, how about we get to entertainment?". Vulcan said sliding his left had down his sword past the hilt and upon his sccabard. Slowly Vulcan move his right hand towards the hilt of his sword tring to intimidate the demon to make a move.

kage turned to vulcan who just came up and stared at him dumb founded. it took a considerable amout of strength to keep himself from laughing like a mad man and finnaly found enough control to speak again. "exuse me mr.vulcan. im sorry but cant you see we are kinda busy here?" kage said holding back a laugh. "besides gun lady is right these people are not like us they need sleep. if you wanna fight the demon do it in the morning" kage then turned and climbed up a tree that was in the middle of the group, getting a good vantage point to see any incomeing dangers. "ranger if you really want to help us then you and your demon friend scout the eastren area, vulcan if you plan to stay then scout out the westren, i will scout the northren sector, i dont want whatever is out there getting anywear near the group." kage sounded like he belonged in the army at this point. for some reason he felt as if he had done this before, as if he was in a army of some sort at one point "wolf girl i need you on southren lookout, gun lady and mr.calm you got base watch since you technicly are part of the original group here."

Gwenhara growled, bu Verjouhi stepped in the way, bow pulled taunt and aimed at Vulcan. "Lay...off...Demi god." Being honest? It was a sword like that, or similar make at least, that damaged Gwenhara's wing so long ago it seemed. So the Demond's reaction was understandable. But, at Kage's words, the two moved off, backing away slowly before melding with the forest. They would patrol.

Vulcan turned aside from the group realizing this demon was no threat, although the man could find a threat else where. So he moved forwards to the west to scout like he had been asked to be. The demigod didn't work well with others for the most part but this place was different he might need there help or vice versa, he wasn't entirely sure. Vulcan walked past trees for about twenty minutes until he came to a rather large water source. He bent down to his knees wondering if this water source was actually water or something more. The man grabbed a twig and poked the liquid as it gooped inwards. Vulcan stood up with a sigh seeing that this was nothing more than a thick liquid that couldn't be used at camp. Vulcan walked away from the liquid thinking maybe he can retrieve some sort of container to take a sample of it and determine what it was. But as he walked away from the liquid two green glowing eyes shinned from beneath the liquid. Vulcan walked until he caught a shimmer of light from the corner of his eyes. "God dammit" said vulcan as a scaled creature rose from the liquid. The green eyed serpent shifted from the liquid moving at vulcan. The man began to run seeing this serpent was up to 20 feet long. The creature moved like a snake chasing a mouse as it chased vulcan.

No matter how fast Vulcan ran it seemed that the serpent moved faster than him. So he decided to move with a new tactic. The demi god ran up a tree moving up branch by branch. Vulcan was about 28 feet up when the serpents head collided with the tree shaking it. Vulcan caught himself on a branch before falling down to the serpent. But that wasn't the end of the monster, it continued to move at vulcan. It spiraled around the tree squeezing it, trying to cut the tree in two. Vulcan looked down at the serpent with a sigh. "Shit this is gonna hurt." Vulcan lunged downwards at the serpents mouth. The moster swallowed him hole as it let go of the tree and began moving down to the liquid. But then stopped suddenly with a shriek of pain. Flames erupted from the serpents mouth eyes and nose. Thats when a blade ripped through the monster from the inside. Vulcan pulled himself from the insides of the serpent standing tall. Vulcan was born with a blood line being born of the god of fire and forge. He was given the ability to breath fire, which he used to burn the serpent from the inside. With a swing of his sword he swung the blood off. Vulcan padded his clothes off with the awful smell and blood of the serpent on him. "Why do i always end up with a monsters blood on me" Vulcan said under his breath.

Jasper

The vampire had spent a considerable portion of the night simply standing beside the tree he had taken shelter in. His eyes were shut and his nostrils twitched as he inhaled the scents of the forest. Beneath the stifling human stench he could make out a strange collection of other smells. He wondered if he was picking up scents from around them or if the humans had actually found allies. He hoped it was the former, but he calculating how to prepare with the latter.

He was abnormally quick, and sprinting through the forests searching for the barrier had helped his speed lately, but he was not faster than all. He was not fast enough to reach his aims with the humans. They had broken through. Clearly they knew where the barrier was. Once he knew their secret he would tear out their throats and feed with the...!

Jasper laughed musically to himself. He had only escaped their world after drinking their blood. That was why he escaped while his brother had perished. Their blood was intoxicating. It was everything he needed... in this moment as he was remembering how powerful he had been the last time he had their blood he wasn't even sure if he wanted to avenge the death of his brother or if he wanted the high of their power. He had foolishly fled their world in panic and now he wanted... no... he needed back in.

He was sure he could escape the camp if they had found allies if he took some of their precious blood. All he needed to do was get in... Jasper was about to leap forward when he decided he would take a different human than the one he drank from. He might take them off-guard by his attack and he had fled too quickly to figure out what happened to the last one he had bitten. He didn't know if his bite was like poison or if he drew too much... too many risks. Take a fresh one.

Jasper bounded out into the forest and he veered dramatically avoiding a scent of... a giant snake and something? He didn't know or care. He wasn't getting involved. The forest spread before him as the scent became stronger. He hoped he wasn't going to arrive their and simply succumb to madness from the scent.

As he approached the camp he didn't allow any of them the time to react. He swept in and he knew by the movement and chaos around him it was going to be too late for him unless the blood gave him the jolt and power that he expected. He had managed to seize the first human laying sleeping on the ground when he felt the first attack, but by then his teeth had found the artery of the girl.

Alice

Her sleep had been restless but unpunctured by dreams. While sleeping on the ground was fine for now it going to haunt her the next morning when she was stiff and uncomfortable. So of course she had not noticed the vampire practically flying into camp until she felt her body being hoisted up and the sensation of movement woke her up.

In her haze Alice only had the time to loose a shrill scream before a sharp stinging sensation emanated from her neck and she was discarded in a heap on the ground feeling nothing... nothing?!

kage saw this and his eyes was imprented with hate and anger. he jumped out of the tree with abnormal speed an agility. his skin of his arm and hand begain to mutate rapidly as it turned into a blade of pure light. "holy blade excalibur!" his arm had transformed into a sword apendage with a remarkable amout of holy energy within. pure holy light radiated from the blade as he rapidly propelled himself at the vampire aiming for his heart or where his heart would have been. "back to hell!" kages eyes had changed into glowing recticals as he seemed to change into living weapons made for killing vampires.

Vulcan began to walk through the forest loosing his direction to where the group had gone. He was scouting in the direction to the west, but after battling the serpent he had lost track of where he stood before. Walking through the woods he tried to retrace his steps thats when he saw a glimmering light. The man proceeded with caution with his blade at his left side. Getting closer he saw the source of the light, a legendary blade. The man stopped watching this blade, for it was excalibur, a sword of legends. Vulcan watched wanting to know how much power this holy sword truly possesed, he had heard legends of its might. But there was to many tales of its might, one story would contradict the other.

Verjouhi and Gwenhara returned with a vengeance, dropping the canteens of water in favor of weapons. The arrow was aimed at the vampire's back, to his heart, but legend and myth mattered little here. "Put her down...Jasper..." he knew the name well, well enough to know why the camp was blood crazy. "Come...on...you've had my...blood before." and Gwenhara had saved him that time too. He nicked his hand lightly with an arrow, leting the blood flow andwaiting. Sometimes vampires were drawn to the blood they'd had before. Hopefully, Jasper would be no different.

Willow was angry and confused. First the three guys start bickering. Then this guy named Vulcan pops up, wanting to fight Ranger's friend, then Kage starts ordering her around like some drill seargent and now this. Just. Frickin. Perfect. Grabbing her .45 she pulled her gun up and pointed the barrel at the...vampire? Letting out a breath, she squeezed the trigger, but missed. It was moving too fast. Damn. She aimed and shot again, missed. Frustration welled up inside her but she tramped it down, knowing it would only make her shot worse. She let out a breath, steadied herself, and aimed for it's head. She squeesed the trigger and watched as the bullet went for his head, but ended up in his shoulder. The vampire was simply moving too fast. With a growl she ran at it, hoping to distract it long enough for someone to get a good shot in.

Quick as a snake, Willow grabbed the vampire's throat and swung herself behind it, holding him in a headlock. "Someone get him!" she cried, wrapping her legs around his waist, hoping her weight would bring him to the ground. Not that she was incredibly heavy or anything, she was only a hundred and thirty pounds, and most of it muscle, but a hundred and thirty pounds of dead weight hanging on your body can buckle your knees faster than you can say
semper fi. Little did she know, Willow had underestimated the strength of vampires, as she was soon to find out.

Jasper wished he had decided to formulate a plan that didn't involve placing himself into an ambush and relying on inducing himself into a state of bloodlust to escape it. He had not anticipated the blood of the girl to have the effect that it did on him. His head was swirling and he was disorientated and the world was moving slowly. He supposed he had probably increased his speed considerably, but everything seemed so slow. All he wanted to do was return to the girl he had discarded in a heap on the ground and drain her completely.

Jasper's thoughts were brought into a dim focus by the scent of another's blood. It wasn't intoxicating in the way that the blood of the humans were, but it was familiar and that made it just as painful to ignore. He nearly leapt towards the source of the blood until a girl had seized him and tried to down him. It brought everything back into startling focus. He needed to remember his goal. He needed to remember what he was doing amidst the chaos and the delightful sway that the blood had induced. He was literally drunk off of power and that almost brought his focus crumbling down onto him. He needed to hold it together. Just for long enough.

He grit his teeth as he forced himself back into focus, "I don't owe you anything!" he snapped at Gwenhara and he thrashed in the grip of the human who had him in a headlock. In his attempt to free himself he had elbowed her far more roughly than he had intended to and she just barely lost consciousness. He swung her limp body around to face his attackers who were conveniently facing the same direction and as his head spun he hoped that they wouldn't attack the human. Using her as a shield was his only possibility. He had not anticipated the strange effect the blood would have on him. No wonder he had not held it together in the human world. It was all he had not to lose control and get himself killed from stupidity. He knew he owed Gwenhara his life, but he did not feel the obligation to do anything. He had acted out of his own free will. Jasper had not begged nor asked for help, he would have rather died. Maybe someday he would pay the debt he had acquired without consent, but not when it involved finding and crossing the barrier. It was too important to Jasper.

"Don't follow me or I'll kill her! I don't plan to hurt her, I just want information. Don't be responsible for her death." he yelled crazed motioning to Willow's inert frame. He had not hit her hard so he needed to get her away before she woke up. He guessed that she had a lot of grit and that only sheer luck had resulted in how she had reached the point of being a human shield.

"Besides you have injured to deal with." he motioned to Alice at his feet. He was awed at his luck when she actually started to convulse. He might actually get what he wanted if they didn't want to further hurt the girls he had effected. The one who needed medical attention and would likely die if they ignored her to attack him and the one he was intending to use as a shield.

"Until we meet again." he laughed in a crazed voice and he lurched slightly almost dropping his 'shield' and falling. Jasper regained his footing and came to the realization that he needed to leave quickly. This blood idea wasn't really working for him apparently. Jasper held Willow in front of him as he backed away and when he deemed himself far enough away hoping that the girl he had taken blood from dying and his threats for Willow's life were enough to leave him alone for at least several hours. He then tossed Willow over his shoulder and broke into a sprint.

He was either moving quicker or his head was too muddled by the human blood that he performed two embarrasing faceplants along the way. He managed to make it back to his house and he had only managed to lock Willow's inert frame onto a bed using some rope constructed of unicorn hair when he noticed that she was beginning to awaken. He only had time to find the strange metallic weapon that the humans called a 'gun' before she had awakened. Ironically, it was only just then that he realized that he was wounded now that the sway of the blood had begun to fade. He clutched his shoulder and probed the wound as he leaned against the wall and watched as his captive was beginning to awaken. He didn't have it in him to interrogate yet so he just grit his teeth against the pain and the bloodlust wishing that he had acted in a more intelligent manner.

kage reverted back to a semi-humanoid form as his eyes changed back to normal. his arm retained weapon form and continues to radiate holy energy. he stabbed the blade through alice's center as the blade released the holy energy within purging her from the toxin of the vampires bite. as he removed the sword from her the wound healed and his other arm changed into a shotgun like weapon that gave off the sent of garlic and had a strange symbol on it. he then ran after jasper at an ungodly speed he burst into the building that jasper was in. "give me gun lady let me and her leave, and NEVER try to attack us again." kage aimed the gun directly at jasper's head. "do what i say or i blast you with the full power of the sun!" as soon as kage said that the rest of his body transformed again all into different weapons that seemed to give off the same sent and the same symbol on each. "syn form no.23 Sunbeam."

Willow held on to the vampire, trying to bring him down with her weight but instead ended up with a hard jab to the ribs. For a moment she couldn't remember how to breathe, then pain exploded in her side and she gasped, the movement of her lungs expanding causing even more pain. She was fairly good a handling pain, so she was surprised when everything sort of faded out, the edges of her vision going gray before blackening altogether.

Willow was slow to wake up. She hurt, a nice blossoming pain in her left side, making her breathing hitch. She tried moving but found her arms bound by something. That made her eyes fly open in surprise. She looked at her hands and feet and found them tethered to some sort of cot by a silvery looking wire. She heard voices and found the vampire standing in front of her, his back to her. Facing the vampire was Kage, holding what looked like some sort of shotgun/cannon thing. It took her a moment to realize that he wasn't holding it. The thing was his arm. Her eyes flew open wide and she tried to sit up. She managed only to scoot back against the wall a little. She quickly looked down at herself and found the M-16 gone, but her other guns were in their holsters. Why take one gun and not the others? Maybe he didn't know they were guns. She was counting on it. Looking up at the standoff in front of her, she waited to see what would happen next, taking in everything with a sort of cold calculation. She'd learned a thing or two in the Marines, one of them being patience. Be patient and things can turn to your advantage, or so the theory went.

So he had been followed.

"You really don't care about saving human life do you?" Jasper grimaced through the pain of his shoulder and his head throbbing. He wanted nothing more than just a few hours. That's all he needed. He still had the gleaming weapon in his hand. He grimly smiled, the smile appeared to be more haunting because his face was marred by pain and slightly twisted.

He caught Kage's eye purposefully and tried to hold up his left hand but the shoulder wound that he had sustained prevented him from doing more than simply moving it awkwardly before he loosed a cry of pain. With his other hand he brought the butt of the gun to his captive's head.

"I'm crazy enough to do it. Without her I've got nothing." he snarled. "All I want is information." he added with a hiss.

"I'll bring her back... alive.... I'd even do a blood pact with you. I. Will. Not. Kill. Her. I just need information." Jasper said, "Besides what use is she of to you? What harm could a few hours with me do to her? You've guaranteed her safety... isn't that enough?" he pleaded hoping that he didn't convey how desperate he truly was. Even if he did, his finger was posed on the trigger. If he was going to die so was she.

"i will stay here with you and her then any strange moves and you will know what its like to be thrown into the purest of sun light." kage didnt trust this vampire. and why should he? jasper had run into there camp and nearly killed one of the group. his guns where all ready to fire and were armed with enough power to roast a pureblood. "remember vampire. i wont miss even if you try to run."

"I'm not trying to run. You shoot me, I shoot her. Easy. You walk away and then I lay down my gun. What do you think sweetie? Would you rather have him leave? All you need to do is answer one question and I'll spin you around a couple of times and let you loose. You're smart. Why would I have kidnapped you if I just wanted your blood? This ordeal can be painless if we just make it so."

Jasper licked his lips thoughtfully, "How is the other one?" he asked almost casually as if he was inquiring about a sick pet. "She was in pretty rough shape when I left..."

Gwenhara's face was blank and even, completely unreadable and seemingly mindless. The vamp owed the demon, if not the human. Simple as that. But it was worrisome to not follow the vamp and keep an eye on him, to make sure he didn't do anything stupid. They felt rather bad that he'd lost his brother to Verjouhi's human world. It was one reason Verjouhi had almost willingly let the vampire near drain him, back when his anger had peaked severely. There was more to the story, but the two never told it all.

Verjouhi went to Alice, wrapping the girls wound while jerking his head toward the trees. Gwenhara didn't hesitate, vanishing among them. Verjouhi returned his attention to Alice, mutely saying, "If you hear...twitch or....something."

Gwenhara ran through the tree tops, looking down at the vampire and Kage. This was one of those times where the best course of action was no action. Yet. If either Jasper or Kage, or Willow, did something unwanted, Gwenhara would stop it. That simple. But until that time, his presence would ram aimed cloaked in the very wind he manipulated.

Willow stared at the vampire when he adressed her. She knew well enough to keep her mouth shut, but she also wanted to stay alive. She just nodded and looked at Kage, telling him with her eyes that if he did anything stupid and got her killed, she would haunt him for the rest of his life. Not that he got the message but he could probably get the jist of it, not to do anything stupid that would ultimately end up in her death.

kage wondered what information this vampire needed. "i wont shoot you unless you try to harm her or me in anyway. i have my weapons aimed at you because i trust you less than i would a pureblood." kage let a smirk slip onto his face but it quickly dissappeared as he answered the vampire. "the other one is fine. Excalibur made sure of that." kage wasn't about to leave. he knew if he made any moves in or out it would lead to something more dangerous. "now you can ask all you want from her. just know that i have no intention of leaving you alone with her."

Alice

A confusing cacophony of senses assaulted her as she tried to make sense of what had happened. Eventually the chaos subsided as a voice slipped through her agony. It asked her to twitch. It took her several attempts to do anything but she managed to let a small squeak pass from her lips and she stopped trying. Close enough. That was probably the best that she was going to manage beneath the coldness that plagued her limbs.

Jasper

Jasper scowled visibly and he wasn't sure if it was because of the wound in his shoulders or because Kage was insistent on remaining nearby. He had offered a blood pact for the girl's safety and that incessant creature still refused to leave. Jasper wondered if Kage was aware that if he broke a blood pact he would burn up no matter where he was as if he had been exposed to direct sunlight.

He felt so venomous towards Kage that his finger briefly stroked the trigger as he considered simply shooting Willow just to prove that he could. He wanted into the human's world so badly that he didn't want to waste her life so crudely. Jasper made plans to kill the girl he had bound if Kage proved to be any more irritating even if it cost his own life. He was struck by how manic and crazed his thoughts were and he wondered if he was still feeling the effects of the blood.

What use would Kage have in knowing he was searching for the barrier anyways? The fool probably wasn't even aware that such a thing existed and he certainly wouldn't have any use for the knowledge that a whole other world existed. Filled with blood-thirsty monsters who had so mercilessly attacked him and James. Jasper grit his teeth and to stop himself from doing something that he would regret to one of those monsters he dug his nails into the flesh on his ragged shoulder.

He returned his attention to Willow and chose to ignore Kage's presence and he asked her in a surprisingly soft voice, "Would you like some water?"

Verjouhi gave a quiet sigh, touching her wrist softly. "You'll be...alright, Alice. I promise." His voice was muted but he reach and plucked a water bottle from a bag, opening it and making her sit up. "Drink." He ordered, putting the bottle to her lips and tilting it slightly.
