Steel Wall
It is always the soldiers who valiantly battle the enemy that returns home covered in medals and praised by all. But behind each soldier on the front is an even greater fighter on the support units.
They can be anyone. A medic, an engineer, or even a chef. You have been chosen to join such an auxiliary unit, stationed behind the front.
What little you knew of the ongoing war did nothing but glorify it. But in the cold, harsh reality this war was anything but glory. Too many went off to fight. Too many homes broken. Too many dead.
Even your little support unit was not spared. Things would soon begin to grow tense. Day after day scores of wounded and starving-military and civilian alike-would visit your camp. Many would not survive. Either their wounds are too grave-or they have just given up. What little resources your unit was given had to be spent carefully, and often people, those who would take too much to save, were left to die.
You were somewhat better off, but not by far. Insanity is getting to you. How much longer can your mind last, mutilated by the daily sight of death and despair?
You might not make it.
But in the end...Every life saved is a small victory.
