Beastmaster (Volchan+Supermegabrenda2)

volchan

Dearheart
Helper
Her tiny feet beat against the cold rocks and freezing snow as she ran haphazardly through the pitch black of a moonless night. A frigid wind beat against her pale skin, pushing back against her as she tried to move through increasingly deep snow. She cried out a sound of despair, but it was swallowed up in the bellowing wind. Taking a moment to look back, a shadow moved through the darkness. Piercing, yellow eyes met her own and she felt her heart beat even more rapidly in her chest. She was too small and too cold to go on much longer, and her predator knew it. Her weakened legs caved finally and she tumbled into the snow, rolling twice before ending up on her back. The stars twinkling above her head were blotted out as the shadow towered over her. She could only give one, final scream as it raised its arm and then swung at her to attack...

Her body gave a small twitch as she startled awake and looked around. It had only been a dream. The realization made her give a small sigh of relief and she sat up a little to stretch herself. The cracking and popping of her joints echoed through the cave-like space she had been sleeping in, causing a nearby mound of black and grey feathers to shift with a grunt. Looking over at the mysterious mound she slowly shuffled closer until the creature inside revealed itself. It looked something like a dragon, but with much more bird-like features. It had two massive, feathered wings and four stalk- like legs with huge, sharp talons. The creature itself was huge, taking up quite a bit of space on its own. Had it been standing it would be towering well above its roommate.

The bird creature raised its head to look at the girl, who was obviously a human of some sort. The girl had pitch black hair that was chopped unevenly across her shoulders and straight as an arrow. Her eyes were black...well...her right one was; the other was a pale blue due to blindness. An old scar ran down the left side of her face; the apparent cause of said blindness. Her pale skin had various scars and marks upon it, though not enough to make her unattractive. She looked as if she could be in her very late teens or early twenties, but she was fairly short and small in stature overall. She had some tone to her body but seemed slightly malnourished with a quite slender build.

The girl approached and the creature moved its head above her. Raising her face, the girl brushed her nose and cheeks against the underside of the creature's neck in greeting. In return, the creature did the same to her, though it was much more subtle seeing as how much larger it was than her. The two continued to nuzzle each other for a moment before the girl stepped back and made a sound that was something between a grunt and a guttural sigh. The creature seemed to respond in kind and shifted its head towards a tunnel lit with firelight. The girl made a gesture with her head before going over to where she'd been resting and picking up garbs made of feathers and pelts. She wrapped and bound the pelt garbs around herself until it appeared she was wearing loose, but heavy, clothing. She then pulled the feather-covered garb over her head. It was similar to a poncho, but covered in feathers of varies sizes. She tied the long ends to her wrists, so that when she stretched out her arms the garb would appear as wings. Finally, she slipped on a couple of makeshift braces over her knuckles that had sharp claws attached to them; it was never a bad idea to be ready in case something attacked.

Giving another sign of recognition to the creature, she headed out of the area and down the fire-lit tunnel it had motioned to. The tunnel was one of a series of many tunnels that wound through the mountains. The creatures that dwelt in this place were known as 'Bergherren', or 'Mountain Lords'. They resided in the steepest and snowiest peaks and were thought to be majestic, ferocious, cunning beasts of the air. They mostly kept to the mountaintops, hunting larger game in the surrounding forests and skies, but every so often they would soar further down into the valleys to prey upon livestock. They were considered intelligent, dangerous monsters. One swift strike from their massive wings and their opponent's bones would shatter beneath the skin from the force; let alone their sharp talons or ability to breathe fire. No person in their right mind would think to challenge one.

The girl walked for a while through the tunnels, her already dirty feet becoming dirtier from the soil. Every now and then another of the Bergherren would cross her path and they would briefly greet one another. For such notoriously ferocious beasts they seemed gentle enough towards her. There was a strange familiarity between them all, as if the girl had been with them a long time; she had. For as long as the girl could remember she had been a part of the flock. As far as she was concerned she was just as much a Bergherren as the others...just a very different looking one. She'd never gone far from the caves, certainly not far enough to stumble across any similar looking creatures, and so she was more than happy to consider herself a proper part of the flock. As a member, she had taken part in hunts and scavenging; though these days she mostly spent time in the nesting grounds caring for the eggs and hatchlings. It was her duty to keep the eggs and little ones warm and to protect them from any danger. Most of the adults spent their time out hunting or deep in the bellies of the mountains breathing life into their roots. It was the Bergherren that kept the mountains alive with their fire and magic, and as such it was her duty to watch over their young.

Finally, she came to the nesting grounds. Firelight also lit this place, making it easy to keep watch and stay warm. Piles of hay, sticks, and feathers lay spread across the space and nestled within were several large eggs. In the corner a few of the hatchlings were sleeping in a pile to keep warm. They were still too young to open their eyes, and so until then they would remain here. One adult was in the room, keeping watch. When it noticed the girl it made a quiet, soft sound through its snout and then groggily stood on its four legs and slithered out. For such large creatures they were surprisingly graceful in their movements; quiet even.

Wasting no time, the girl moved over to the closest egg and gently rested against it. She brought her arms around it, allowing the warm pelts and feathers to surround it as much as she could. The eggs were very large; the average egg was about as big as she was and much wider. Her arms couldn't even reach all the way around. She rested her cheek against it and closed her eyes, listening to the small sounds inside. It wouldn't be much longer before this one hatched; maybe a day or two. She always enjoyed watching the young ones break free from their shells and holding them. Perhaps later she'd be able to snuggle with the newborns for a bit.

Astrien was snoring lightly, curled up against a much bigger black beast. His scales were smooth at the center, and rough against the edges. His snout had a sharp, horn like structure at the ent, along with three horns facing the back of his head. His tail was long, almost the size of his body, and it was barbed. They were called Wyverns. The Wyvern suddenly jolted, bashing its horn into Astriens chest. Astrien jumped back in response, rolling and getting onto his feet in one swift movement. His muscles relaxed again, a small smile forming on his handsome face.

"Lucas. You can just talk when you want to get up."

The Wyvern let out a sound, like a mixture of a gargle and a screech. Astrien chuckled, avoiding his tail as he pulled his jacket from under the beast. It playfully snapped at his feet, his sharp teeth barely missing his skin. The coat was move like something to drape over his shoulders that covered his back. It had two small hooks that attached to each other right at the center of his collarbone, then draped back. The ends were made of shredded Wyvern scales, which were very heavy. The rest was wool, which Astrien had gotten from his own little farm.

"We have to go now if we want to see the 'Moutain Lords'."

He said the name in a deep tone, chuckling after. Astrien slowly walked out of the small cave, his feet hitting the snow.

"Come Lucas. We don't have all day."

The beast garbled again, getting up. It stood on only two legs, and was rather short. His powerful wings were folded over his back, twitching every so often. Astrien turned, and began climbing up the ragged pathway. His muscles rippled as he jumped or pushed himself up to climb ahead. The dens were only a small distance away. The Wyvern was having no trouble at all. He jumped and glanced at Astrien, much like a bird would. Astrien crouched low on his heels as he turned the corner into the cave. It was warm inside. Two of the beasts were sitting at the entrance, exchanging grunts. Astrien took a deep breath, feeling his many necklaces swinging on his chest, tapping it then bumping into each other. He placed his hand on the Wyverns head, and slowly began walking inside. He kicked a small stone as he did, standing still and wincing as it touched one of them. Both of them turned, growling and snapping their jaws. The Wyvern lowered itself to the floor, baring its teeth at them. Astrien slowly held out his two hands kneeling down on the floor. The Wyvern just curled into a ball, moving away slowly. The two beasts stopped, their tails swishing and striking the walls. Astrien peeked through his lashes to see what they were doing. From a small distance, they were sniffing his hands. His breathing was slow as he slowly began moving towards them. One of them jolted back slightly, but didn't seem to mind.

"Lucas. Get up now."

The two beasts glanced at the uncurling Wyvern, watching as the playful thing came and gently rubbed against both of them. Astrien stood slowly, watching as Lucas jumped from side to side, gargling at both of them.

The two massive creatures observed the strangers cautiously. It wasn't normal to get unexpected visitors; especially humans. This human, however, had a strange scent to him. There was a sort of....peacefulness...about him. They didn't sense that he was violent or threatening, but even so they still felt uneasy about letting some strange creatures into their den.

One of the two Bergherren eyed Astrien closely, its silver eyes narrowing.

'What are you doing here, human?' It asked through a series of guttural noises and clacks.

'No one comes up here except to fight. Do you have a death wish, or are you just that foolish?'

Astrien payed close attention. It had been quite some time that he had spoken to one of these beasts. The Wyvern hopped back to Astriens side, sitting slightly back. His barbed tail was swaying down on the floor, scraping the rocks and making a few sharp noises.

'I come in peace. Maybe I am foolish. I was hoping to be able to spend the day here. We got lost in the mountains.' He said rather slowly, making sure he didn't mispronounce anything. Astrien stepped back slightly, placing his hand on Lucas snout. It gargled, stepping closer to Astrien in a slightly protective manner. Not that a small wyvern would stand a chance against the other two.

The two beasts watched him as he spoke before looking at each other. It seemed this human was no ordinary human. It was the first time in decades that they'd met a human capable of communicating with them. After a few hushed grunts and growls between the two of them, they turned their attention back to the man and his pet.

'If you wish to come inside, we would have you leave any weapons here at the entrance.' The one who'd spoken earlier said.

'Then we will take you to Girisha. He is the head speaker of our flock. It will be up to him if you can stay or not.'

'My only weapon would be Lucas. I don't suppose you will make me leave him out here?' Astrien said, removing his coat and putting it on the floor. He looked down at the boxer like silk tied around his waist. He glanced back up at the beasts, feeling the Wyvern stirring beside him. It was glancing nervously between him and the two beasts before them.

'He's harmless.' Astrien said, patting Lucas's head.

The two Bergherren took in the tiny Wyvern for a moment before the one who'd addressed Astrien gave a little puff of hot air from his nostrils.

'Very well, he can go with you.' It replied before giving a motion towards the other guard.

'Follow me...and don't wander off.' It warned before turning and heading deeper into the cave, leaving the other massive creature there to stand watch.

The tunnels were maze-like in their construction and without a proper sense of smell one could easily find themselves hopelessly lost. Some tunnels ran well below the base of the mountains into depths that even dwarves would be wary of, while others ran up to the very tip of the peaks. Needless to say that the tunnels were massive in their construction, large enough that the Bergherren could easily pass through them. They were like massive corridors lit by bright, orange firelight. Even though the Bergherren were considered beasts, their ability to construct such tunneling systems proved that they were far more than just animals. They had existed as long as the mountains, and would continue to exist until they crumbled.

It seemed to take ages before the small group reached the inner chambers. These large areas were used for nesting, rest, and socializing. The one they'd entered was the largest and was also the resting place of Girisha, the leader of the flock. The great creature sat on a massive pile of branches, furs, and feathers that somehow looked as immaculate as he did. He was the largest of the Bergherren with a wingspan of well over one hundred feet and talons that, when extended, were about the length of an average man. His feathers were mostly white or a light grey, reflecting his age, and his eyes were like smoldering charcoal. He straightened when he saw the group enter, his feathers perking and ruffling a little at the sight of a human.

'Who is this you've brought me, Velyn?' He asked, eyeing Astrien and Lucas.

'This human says he is here in peace. He says he's lost and wants to stay here for the day.' Velyn responded. Girisha's head tilted the slightest bit at the news.

'He says?' He pressed, looking at the human more closely now. The human had a strange aura about him...could he speak their tongue?

'Who are you, human? Is it true you understand us and use our speech?'

Astrien followed, peering into the different tunnels. The Wyvern was following close behind, his barbed tail raised and kept straight in fear of hitting the warm walls. He was walking slowly, the steady click of nails on the floor a soothing and familiar sound for Astrien. Once they arrived the large cave, he was awe struck. He had never seen such a large number of those beasts together. His attention turned to the leader. He was clearly much older.

'I am Astrien. I have learned to speak your language over the years.' He said, reaching back and patting Lucas's head. The Wyvern seemed to snap out of the small daze, glancing at the big one. Lowering his head, he curiously approached, sniffing around. Astrien watched, still weary.

'Don't mind Lucas. He is just very playful.' Lucas garbled in response, turning his head and letting out a playful growl. Astrien stepped closer, kneeling next to the nest like area the leader was sitting on.

'If you would allow us to stay the night, we won't be much of a burden.'

Girisha watched the human closely. He knew how cunning humans could be, but he sensed no deceit in the man. The room was eerily silent as the other Bergherren watched and waited for their leader to respond. Finally, Girisha gave a powerful shake with his head and his feathers settled back into place.

'Very well. You may stay with us for a night.' He replied.

'Be warned: the only reason you aren't dead right now is because you have proven you have manners. If I or my kin find you behaving suspiciously, I may change my mind about you.'

Girisha then looked over to one of the other Bergherren sitting nearby.

'Please inform Kohinoor we have a guest.'

He then looked at the creature that had brought Astrien to him.

'Velyn, set him up in one of the chambers and let Thuu know I need to see her once her replacement arrives.' He instructed before looking at the human again.

'Velyn will show you to your resting place. You are welcome to wander a bit, but stay clear of the nesting grounds.' He warned. Velyn then gave a motion with his head to the human and headed back into the tunnels.

Astrien nodded, getting up and following the beast. Lucas stared at the master for a while before getting up and walking after Astrien. The Wyvern sped up, winding itself between the beasts legs before turning down another hallway. Austrian chuckled, following Velyn.

'Have you never encountered other humans? Or pherhaps let one stay here?' He asked, making a small sprint to walk next to the beast. Astrien began fiddling with his necklaces, glancing around. The whole place seemed very nice. He wondered what Lucas was up to.

The Wyvern let out small garbles as he moved, not having understood or heard the instructions of not approaching the nesting area. He slowed down, his presence almost undetectable by sound. Sniffing the air a few more times, he turned down a tunnel and was met with the eggs. He loved eggs. Not eating them, just snuggling up next to them and watch the little hatchlings grow. He immediately noticed the girl, sitting against an egg. Lucas glanced at the stone walls. They were dark, nearly as dark as him. But the place was well lit. He crouched down as low as he could, now barely two feets tall like this. He pressed his wings to the floor as he slithered close to an egg, on a far corner. Once he managed, he garbled quietly, curling around the egg. His barbed tail swayed on the floor slowly, the barbs making small scratching noises.

Velyn glanced down at the human as he spoke to him.

'We've encountered enough.' He replied.

'Most humans run from or attack us, so human guests aren't a usual sight.' He added. He didn't mention the girl living with them; it wasn't his place. It was ultimately up to Girisha on how to handle her presence here.

The two arrived at another open space; this one littered with more messy resting places. Even so, it was well lit and it was warm.

'I or another will come to check on you later. There is usually food to spare should you be hungry. Sleep wherever you like.' Velyn said before turning to leave again. It was about time he got back to the entrance to help guard the tunnels.

The girl was warming another egg when the intruder entered. Her eyes were closed, so she didn't see the little thing slink past, but when it curled up around one of the eggs and started making small scratching sounds she picked up on it right away.

She let go of the egg she was warming and sat up straight, listening to the strange sound. She knew what hatchings and cracking eggs sounded like...this wasn't the some sort of noise. She became more alert, standing and scanning the room with her one good eye. When she finally noticed the Wyvern curled around the egg she felt her heart jump in her chest. What was that thing? What was it doing to the egg?!

The girl let out a deep snarl, baring her teeth at the intruder. She raised her arms up so that the feathery poncho seemed like two massive wings as she moved towards the Wyvern. If it looked like that thing was going to harm the egg, she'd cut it into pieces! How had it even gotten in here?

Astrien nodded. He wondered how they counter attacked. Did they kill the humans or just let them off with a warning?

'Thank you.' He said, nodding his head as he walked over to a small bunch of hay that seemed as if no one had slept on it for a while. He sat down, then layed on his side. A striven watched as the beast left. It always surprised him how smoothly they moved, and silently too. Soon enough, he began snoring.

The Wyvern raised its head, scanning the room for the noise it had just heard. His eyes landed on the girl. What was she doing? He stood slowly, his tail moving carefully in order to not even touch the eggs. It stayed high, the end slightly facing her. Lucas garbled, tilting his head slightly. He moved closer to the egg, placing his hand on the shell. His touch was delicate, fingers facing upwards so his nails were far from the egg. His wings fluttered, opening and one of them wrapped around the egg as he moved back to his original position.

The Wyvern still had his eyes glued to the girl. His head moved closer to the egg, his lips pulling back slightly so only the tips of his teeth were visible. Did she want to attack the eggs?

At the intruder's response, the girl felt herself tense. She didn't know what it was doing, but it didn't matter. She was supposed to protect the eggs, and she was going to do just that. With a feral hiss she charged at the creature, waking the hatchlings who began making small cries. She gave a loud screech of alarm. Another of her kin would come soon, then this thing would be in some real trouble!

Lucas let out an earplitting screech, spreading his wings and hissing as he flew over her head, his nails missing her by a few bare centimeters. His tail didn't. It hit her feather coat, probably ripping it as he flew out. Sniffing around, he found his way to where Astrien was. He quickly curled around him and pretended to be asleep.

Austrian was snoring, not having heard Lucas from the distance they where. He felt Lucas curl up, and he instinctively moved a bit closer.

((Hmm he ain't dumb XD))

The girl managed to duck when the creature screeched and flew over her. The tail nicked her, leaving a scratch on her shoulder, but thankfully it wasn't deep. She chased the thing out, but didn't pursue it as she wasn't about to leave the nest unwatched. Once certain the thing wasn't coming back, she scurried over to the crying hatchlings and snuggled in with them, cooing at them to calm them down. She felt furious at what had just happened; how had none of the others noticed that creature?

Within another couple minutes two Bergherrens rushed into the nesting area and instantly took notice of the upset hatchlings and the girl's bleeding shoulder.

'What happened?' One asked, checking the girl over to make sure she was alright.

'Some strange creature was messing with the eggs. I chased it out, but I don't know if it's been caught.' The girl replied, stroking the hatchlings' heads to keep them calm.

'I have no idea how it got this far in. I don't even know what it was. It looked like some kind of small, two legged lizard.' She added. At the description, the two Bergherrens looked at each other. They'd heard word of the human and his pet and were fairly certain they were behind this. The one closer to the girl looked back at her again.

'Girisha asked to speak with you once you finish your shift. I'll take over now, so you go with Ake. And don't worry, I'll make sure nothing sneaks in.' It said. The girl seemed uncertain for a moment; she usually stayed longer and the hatchlings were frightened, but if Girisha wanted to speak to her she knew she had to go.

Carefully getting up, she gave the hatchlings a little nuzzle goodbye before heading out of the nesting grounds with the other Bergherren. She wasn't certain what Girisha wanted to speak with her about; hopefully it wasn't anything serious. She made her way along, giving little nods of acknowledgment to others as she passed by. Something strange was in the air...she had a feeling that something different was going on. Could it have something to do with that pest that had entered the nests?

They came to where Girisha was sitting and the great beast looked up.

'Thuu, you're here sooner than I expected.' He said, looking to Ake.

'There was an incident with the human's pet.' Ake replied. Girisha's feathers ruffled slightly at the news, his sharp eyes narrowing slightly.

'An incident?' He pressed before taking notice of Thuu's injury. When he saw it he raised himself up, his feathers becoming more wild and untamed. Everyone in the room shrank back in response; Girisha was not pleasant to be around when he was enraged. The girl, Thuu, had no idea what any of them were talking about. Human? Pet? Either way, her injury seemed to be making their leader angry, so she placed a hand over the cut.

I'm alright........but what is this about a human?' She asked. Girisha stared at her for a moment before very slowly sinking back down into the nest, his feathers flattening back into a more tame look.

'There is a human male staying with us for a night. He has a Wyvern with him, which is what I'm assuming you saw.' Girisha responded.

'Thuu...' He started a little more quietly, his tone becoming more serious.

'...when you see him, you will have questions; maybe some confusion. Just remember that you are a part of this flock. For your mother's sake, remember who you are.'

Thuu blinked with a confused look on her face. She'd never seen a human before, but why did Girisha seem so concerned about it? If it was dangerous he wouldn't be keeping it as a guest, right? What exactly was so special about it? Why did she get the feeling he wasn't telling her something?

'Alright...' She replied. It was quiet for a moment before Girisha looked to Ake.

'Bring the human and his pet to me. I want to know what it was doing with our eggs.' He demanded. That Wyvern would be lucky if it didn't end up with a broken leg for what it had done; especially considering it had drawn blood from one of Girisha's own. Ake nodded and went off to fetch the unlucky pair and Thuu prepared to head back to her sleeping chamber when Girisha stopped her.

'Thuu, stay here. I want you to tell me if this human's pet is the one that attacked you in the nesting grounds.' He ordered. The girl nodded and took a seat next to the massive nest, leaning against it a little as she waited for the human and his pet to be brought to them. She couldn't help but feel a little curious; she'd never seen a human before, and after how Girisha had acted she couldn't help but wonder what was in store.

Ake reached the place Astrien and his Wyvern were sleeping and gave a hard stomp with one of its legs, making the ground shake.

'Get up, human! Girisha wants to see you and your pet.' He demanded.

Astrien jolted awake, looking up at the beast. He nodded, turning to look at Lucas.

"Lucas. Lucas, get up."

He said, giving soft yanks to his horns. Lucas opened his eyes, garbling softly. Astrien stood, and followed the beast. He wondered why the leader wished to see him so soon. Maybe for questions. Or because he changed his mind. Either way, Lucas looked agitated. He was walking near Astrien, which was unusual. Astrien immediately became tense. Had he done something? Once they reached the chamber, Licas was reluctant to go in. He stood outside, watching Astrien go in.

"Lucas." Astrien called, moving back over to him and placing his hand on the Wyverns snout. It shrunk back as Astrien walked in.

'You wanted to speak with me?' He said, taking a quick glance around the room. His eyes stopped at the girl. The Wyvern was glaring at her too. What was a human doing here? Didn't they say that they were not allowed. Trying to be respectful, he dragged his gaze back to the leader, tensing slightly. Lucas did something. Astrien lightly flicked the side of his head, earring a garble, and Lucas reluctantly looking at the leader.

Astrien raised his hand, and began fiddling with his necklaces. He noticed the gaze of all the beasts on Lucas. He slowly followed them, looking down at the Wyvern.

'He did something while I slept, didn't he.' Astrien said quietly, watching Lucas as his nostrils flared slightly.

It felt like a long time before Ake returned with the two guests, and everyone seemed a little tense from the anticipation. There was no way of knowing how things would end; it was quite possible that Girisha would kill both of them. When they finally entered all eyes fixed on them, including Thuu's. She felt her body stiffen a little upon seeing Astrien. That was what humans looked like? But...he looked a lot like her; not in coloring or muscle mass or anything like that, but in terms of species. Just like Girisha warned, she suddenly felt very confused and a flurry of questions began swirling inside her head. Why did she look like a human? Was....was she a human...?

Girisha ignored Astrien's questions and looked to Thuu instead.

'Thuu, is that creature the one you saw in the nesting grounds?' He asked. Hearing her name, Thuu snapped out of her shock and turned her attention to the smaller creature at the human's side. Seeing it, she narrowed her gaze just a little.

'Yes.' She replied.

Girisha's feathers rippled a little at the response and he looked at Astrien.

'Your pet entered our nesting grounds, touched our eggs, frightened our hatchlings, and drew blood from one of our own.' He said with a snarl. 'How do you think we should respond?'

His harsh gaze centered on the Wyvern threateningly. He could crush the thing with one fling of his massive wing if he so desired, but for the moment he was holding back; he wanted to see how the human responded first.

Astrien stuttered, glancing up at the beast then down at the Wyvern. Lucas began garbling and grumbling, speaking things that apparently only Astrien could understand. Lucas moved his head up and down, his tail flailing. He began jumping, slamming his small feet on the floor. Astrien sighed.

'He says he was only snuggling with an egg. He didn't mean any harm, he just really likes the small ones. Then the other human startled him, and he reacted by trying to protect the egg. When she attacked, he flew back to me and pretended to be asleep.' He said, running his fingers through his hair. The wyvern gabled again, sitting back and burrying his head in between Astrien's feet.

'You must understand that he didn't possibly mean any harm. He was just startled.' Astrien said, shuffling away from Lucas. He gave a small glance to the girl, still curious as to why she was there. She didn't act like a human, judging by how she stood and reacted. Looking back at the leader, he noticed it didn't seem happy. Astrien garbled something, causing Lucas to stand. The Wyvern glanced at Astrien, then at the girl. Grumbling, it moved over and sat next to the other human. His tail was wrapped around himself, his little hands against his chest as he glanced up at her. It garbled again, tilting it's head.

'It's asking your name.' Astrien said, giving her a small glance before looking back at the leader.

((Sorry for the short post, I'm kind of in a rush.))

Girisha's entire body puffed up in anger when Astrien reffered to Thuu as human.

'OTHER human?' He snapped, his eyes wide with rage.

'There is only one human here, and his inability to control his pet has put him in a -very- dangerous situation.' He warned. He would not have this human putting thoughts into Thuu's mind. Girisha was beginning to think he'd made an error in judgment allowing this man into their den.

Taking a moment to calm down, Girisha addressed the man again.

'Regardless of his intentions, did I not say that the nesting area was off limits? Even if your pet didn't understand, you are responsible for it, are you not? Should I then blame you for what happened?'

It seemed that Astrien and his pet were not in a great situation at the moment. If they wanted to come out of this alive they would have to appeal to Girisha's anger and prove that they were not a threat.

Thuu gave a sideways look at the Wyvern when it curled up near her. She still wasn't pleased with how it had behaved in the nesting grounds, but watching it with Astrien it seemed much more harmless than she'd assumed. When Astrien addressed her, both her and Girisha's attention focused solely on him. She seemed hesitant to answer when Girisha spoke up instead.

'You are to speak to me, human.' He growled. One of his massive wings shifted and moved to cover Thuu, like a mother hen shielding her chicks. Thuu curled up a little and looked up at Girisha in confusion. He was behaving much more protectively than usual...was it because the human was here?

'How do you plan to make things right? We have taken you in to our home, against our better judgment, and so far you have shown that you and your creature cannot be trusted.'

Astrien bit the insides of his cheeks, up to the point where he felt the coppery taste of blood. He furrowed his brows when he said that the girl wasn't human.

'She's not human? But she smells just like one...'

He said quietly, glancing at how protective he was of her. The Wyvern backed up to Astrien, his barbed tail facing high, the tip slightly facing the beast. It garbled, oddly consufed as to why the human was pulled away.Astrien was thinking. If she wasn't human, what was she? A nymph?

'What do you want me to do in order to make things right?'

He asked, his muscles tensing slightly as he noticed all the gazes on him. Astrien clentched his jaw slightly, placing his hand on the Wyverns head and moving in front of it, standing straight as he gave back all the stern gazes. It was annoying the way they glared at them like Astrien and Lucas were something inferior. Just like the human kings. Even worse. His hand glided to the horn on the back of Lucas's head, and he lifted the small dragon to it's feet with quite some effort, his muscles buldging slightly.

'I promise this won't happen again.' He said, lowering his head slightly in respect.

'We can help you and your... Colony in any task. Except anything that involves strong scents. Lucas is very sensitive.'

He added the last few parts silently, glancing up at the leader through his long lashes. Astrien ran his fingers through his hair, shifting his gaze to the Wyvern. It was crouched low, his winds flat against his back and his hands were slightly over his eyes.

'What do you suggest?'

The room was quiet as everyone waited for Girisha to respond. He was thinking about how to deal with their guests as his sharp talons tapped methodically against the branches below him. Finally, he gave a puff of hot air through his nostrils and sat back a little.

'You may stay the night, as promised. However, in the morning you are to leave and never return.' He said.

'Make sure you keep your pet under control. You're one of the few humans that has ever shown us respect, and for that reason I am giving you this one last chance. Be careful that you don't waste it.'

His wing returned to his side and he looked down at Thuu.

'You may go now. I'm sure your mother will want to look at that wound.' He said softly. Thuu nodded and stood up, glancing at Astrien as she passed by him. When she'd left the room, Girisha looked at the human again.

'You are not to give that girl any strange ideas. She is one of us, and that is all that matters.'

He motioned towards the tunnel that Astrien had come from.

'I trust you can find your own way back.'

Astrien furrowed his brows before leaving. He tapped the Wyverns head.

'Follow. Don't enter.'

He garbled, watching as Lucas took off following the girl. Astrien made his way into the den, sitting on the comfortable resting place. A few beasts were in there, getting ready for their sleep. They payed little to no attention to Astrien. He sat down, scratching his chest where his scars were. The ragged lumps felt odd under his fingertips, a reminder that beasts can be dangerous. He rested back against the warm stone wall, wrapping his arms around his chest.

Lucas followed the scent as quietly as he could, careful not to be caught. Once he caught sight of her, he noticed she wasn't there yet. Lucas sped up, garbling softly to cath her attention. He began walking alongside her, keeping his tail far away. He garbled again, glancing up at her as he walked. Lucas tried speaking the very little he knew.

'What. You. Is?'

He said, licking his lips as he just stared up at her.

Thuu had gone a ways down the tunnel when she heard the strange garbling sounds of the human's pet. She looked over to see the Wyvern walking beside her and stopped, uncertain what to make of it.

'Why are you following me? Where is your human?' She asked, remaining guarded. She wasn't very trusting of creatures besides her own kin, as the various scars on her body would explain.

The creature asked her what she was in broken tongue and she blinked.

'I am a Bergherren, of course!' She said defensively. What kind of question was that? Was it because she had no wings of her own? Because she walked on two legs instead of four? Because her body had no feathers or fur other than what was on her head? Thinking about it made her feel uneasy. She knew she was different...but that didn't mean she wasn't a part of the flock, did it?

'Go back to your master and leave me be.' She said, drawing her feathery garment more tightly around herself as she started walking again.

'No. You smell. Different.' He said, followed by a few garbles as he kept going after her.

Astrien felt uneasy. Lucas should have been back by now. He got up, and began following the little scratches on the floor that Lucas made. He ran, and eventually did spot he black tail swaying against the floor, scratching the stone and leaving a trail. Astrien garbled something, approaching. He noticed the girl was there too. Astrien lightly smacked the side of the Wyverns head, earning a garble and a hiss. Astrien glanced back up at the girl.

'I'm sorry about him. He is just clumsy.' He said, chuckling. Scratching the back of his head, he bit his lip. 'May I ask why you are here? As.... Aren't you suppose to be with others of your kind?'

He asked again, crossing his arms as he took a small step back. Astrien returned to scratching his scars. You could say it was some kind of habit. His own little scars made by his nails were there. The red spot from previous scratching was there.

Thuu felt her frustration beginning to rise as the Wyvern continued to follow her. She was getting close to swiping at it when the human suddenly showed up. He gave the creature a little smack before apologizing, then went on to awkwardly ask her why she was with the Bergherren. Thuu's eyebrows knit together as he suggested she wasn't one of them.

'I -am- with others of my kind!' She snarled.

'What is wrong with you?! You show up here, take up our beds, and then suggest I don't belong? I am, and always have been, a part of the flock!' She snapped, glaring at him. In all honesty she felt concerned. Seeing a human, she noticed that she shared more many traits with them than she did with her kin...and it worried her.
