Battle Meditations

The Battle Meditations are mortal combat styles that were developed during the last days of the Primordial War in order to increase the combat prowess of mortals.  In the Second Age, the Battle Meditations are taught across Creation.  In the Blessed Isle, the Battle Meditations are taught to mortal Immaculate Monks to increase their combat prowess.  In the Threshold, Battle Meditations are taught to elite and superior military units as well as to the initiates of hidden monestaries within the wilder areas.  Battle Meditations cost 6 BP or 9 XP for the first level or 6 BP or 6*current level in XP for each additional level.

Battle Meditations are linked to a specific combat Ability (Archery, Brawl, Martial Arts, Melee or Thrown) and may not exceed the linked Ability.  Each weapon has its own Battle Meditation.  For weapons which fall under two combat Abilities, like Brawl Weapons, Martial Arts Weapons, Thrown Weapons and Unarmed Weapons (like Fists, Kick, Clinch, Sweep, Tackle, Throw, Fangs, etc), there two different Battle Meditations, one for each combat Ability, which are mutally exclusive and are not cumulative.

The effect of Battle Meditations are fairly simple.  For each level in the appropriate Battle Meditation, unarmed attacks and melee weapons (including the melee uses of thrown weapons) gain a plus one to Speed, Accuracy, Damage, Defense and Rate.  If applicable, the minimum required Strength, Dexterity and Martial Arts is reduced by one per level as well.  For each level in the appropriate Battle Meditation, thrown weapons gain a plus one to Accuracy, Damage and Rate and gain 10 yards of Range.  For each level in the appropriate Battle Meditation, bows gain a plus one to Accuracy and Rate and gain 50 yards of Range.  For each level in the appropriate Battle Mediatation, crossbows gain a plus one to Accuracy and gain 50 yards of Range.  For each level in the appropriate Battle Mediatation, all other ranged weapons gain plus one to Accuracy.

Battle Meditations cost one temporary Willpower to activate for a scene.  Optionally, in times of extreme stress, the practitioner may spend one permenant Willpower to activate a Battle Meditation for a scene.  If this is done, the effects of the Battle Meditation are doubled for the scene.  Normally only one Battle Meditation may be active at a time and activating another Battle Meditation will cancel the effects of the previous one.  If, however, a practitioner has learned a Battle Meditation Matrix, they may activate all of the Battle Meditations within the Matrix for one temporary Willpower or one permenant Willpower and, while their effects are not cumulative, they allow the practitioner to access multiple Battle Meditations within the same scene without spending excessive amounts of Willpower.  It costs 6 BP or 9 XP per Battle Meditation to link them into a Battle Meditation Matrix.  Additional Battle Meditations may be added to a Battle Meditation Matrix afterwards without difficulty, as long as the 9 XP surcharge is paid.
