well, only partially. to be fair, he does have a lot to work on in the “being gentle” department.

jae-wook’s prickly personality makes it hard for him to work with others, lest he become subject to talk behind his back. frankly, he could care less about the people who badmouth him, but it frustrates him to know that there isn’t a single person who can see more than just his exterior.

more than anything, he wants his talent to be recognized, and genuinely hopes the same for others. his method of “encouragement”, however, is anything but encouraging. jae-wook unwittingly puts his peers down through sharp criticism. his habit of speaking his mind only causes strain on his relationships with others, though a few do stick around (see: douchey cousin & attached family friend) despite it all.

sadly, his reserved personality makes it hard for others to connect, and keeps people wondering what he’s up to. the way jae-wook sees it, rather than waste time doing things he doesn’t like—like going partying with coworkers—he’d value his time by doing things he actually enjoys (see: a quiet night at home, away from everything and everyone). in that regard, he’s very stubborn about trying things that take him out of his comfort zone, an aspect that reflects in his writing and investigative style.

beyond the rough exterior, jae-wook has his own insecurities and soft spots. he constantly worries that he won’t be able to fulfill his ambitions, and triple checks his work before going through with it. and though he doesn’t know how to handle situations with care, he does show affection in his own way. he’s actually very open about how he feels about others, including the people he likes. [div class=firstword]background[/div] born in rather comfortable settings, jae-wook had a relatively happy childhood. he experienced all the loneliness of an only child, but all the delights of being part of a privileged household. in school, jae-wook had few friends, as many avoided conversation with the four-eyes weirdo. to be fair, there wasn’t enough time for friends back then; schoolwork, club duties, tutoring, sports, and exam prep all kept him busy enough.

though always a perfectionist, jae-wook was never the perfect child. he, too, struggled in certain subjects at school (math being the worst), and didn’t graduate at the top of his class like his parents would have wanted. he did, however, have a clear plan of what he wanted to do from the beginning. jae-wook always had an interest in writing, and his passion for literature paired with a strong sense of justice (like his father, who was a lawyer), made journalism the natural path for him in college.

being an independent soul, jae-wook opted to move into an apartment near his college. living away from home took a toll on his relationship with his parents; though his parents appreciated his candid personality and clear mindset, they were always quick to complain about the little things, such as his choice of major or his infrequent visits to their place. though the nagging and fretting only gets worse, twenty-seven-year-old jae-wook is still stubborn in his self-reliant, aloof ways. it is almost impossible to get ahold of him outside of work, a complaint many around him make him aware of.
