Ezrin - 26 - Firebender
MK2VPiA.png

Allegiance:
Rebels
Occupation: Performer (formerly)
Personality: creative, free spirit, passionate, hard working, curious

History:
Born and raised on Ember Island to a family of modest means, Ezrin was always a bit of a free spirit. She followed her own rules and never really cared much about what others thought. Though she is a firebender, Ezrin was never really interested in using her talents as a weapon. She would much rather make flashy sparks and tricks to amuse others...and herself. It was no surprise that she pursed a career as a dancer and musician, and she found as much success as she could hope for. She worked hard, made a modest but stable living, and lived her life doing what she loved.

Her life changed completely when a nobleman saw her dancing and fell for her. They fell in love quickly and were married soon. The union caused a bit of a scandal--but none of that bothered Ezrin, some of the gossip even amused her. She retired from the stage in her new, comfortable life but never stopped creating: her new home was filled with unfinished novels and paintings.

When the war began to take a turn, her husband spoke up to try to convince Firelord Sozin to ease back on the war effort. For a time, he wasn't perceived as much of a threat, but when it became clear that his views could damage the Fire Lord's goals, he was made an example. He was forced to fight an Agni Kai to the death against another nobleman who stood against him, and he was defeated.

Ezrin fled her home without so much as stopping to gather her belongings: recently pregnant and terrified that she would be the next target. It would only take a quick look around her old home to find that many of her unfished works have a very political slant.

Other:
-4 months pregnant
-Finally trying to learn how to use her bending to fight, she's come to the realization that she needs it
-Carries around a first draft of a play she's working on: a comedy of errors about an egotistical Firelord. She swears it's purely fictional...if it was based in truth it would be much more scathing!

Name: Okatsu

Age: 19

Bending: N/A

Allegiance: Rebels

Occupation: Yuyan Archer (formerly)

Personality: Determined; care-free; empathic; careful

History: Born to the noble line of the Shi Dynasty, Okatsu's early life was one of ardent education and rigorous drilling on the Fire Nation's indomitable doctrine. Her father, Governor Xue, was an influential and wealthy administrator of one of the Fire Nation's many Cities, it was no surprise the man was always absorbed in work and care, especially with the country manning for war at Sozin's request. Seeing it as a boon to garner respect, Okatsu's father decided to enrol his two sons and daughter in a series of martial tests. Indeed, if they excelled and were to join the army in respectable positions, his own prestige would grow tenfold.

Her older brother Izu excelled in the sword and was greatly favoured by her and Siru's father due to his ability to firebend. Siru however proved an able strategist and tactician, earning him some small esteem. Yet Okatsu, despite being far from Xue's favoured child, outstripped them both with phenomenal precision with the bow and a graceful light-of-foot. She'd trained with the bow since she could scarcely walk, as expected of a noble child, but her wish to make her father proud earned her total alienation instead. She was to be shipped off from her father's Estate to train under the Yuyan archers in Pohuai Stronghold. Despite the a growing bitterness from her perceived banishment, Okatsu found it easy to sweep into the methodical training and grace the elite warrior sect demanded.

After accomplishing her recruit years, the noble was made an official Yuyan Archer at 16. In the 4 years since her departure from home, she hadn't once seen her brothers or her father. The twilight of her life was yet to come into being, however, as Just three years later, under Sozin's destructive guidance, the Fire Nation seemed enshrined in a frenzy for war that nothing could halt. When balancing on the precipice of war, the Yuyan archers were deployed to ambush an Earth Kingdom noble train. The missive was final in its directive: No survivors. The experience of seeing such brutality unfurled by her own comrades ruined all elements of indoctrination the Yuyan had worked so fearlessly to instil; the girl had always had a soft and empathic heart, faced with such cruelty, she made her decision to flee at first chance.

"The Kemurikage"
Suri_1.jpg
Name: Suri "The Kemurikage" Zaoxin
Age: 20
Bending: Suri was born with the natural ability to firebend, but as far as natural talent goes she's always been mediocre. She was born with an unnatural ability as well, though. The Fire Sages claimed she was blessed by the dragons when it was found that she could sense heat sources around her. As a young girl she described it to the Sages like she could feel the warmth of people's bodies all around her, and if she concentrated she could see blobs of heat for each person even when she closed her eyes. The hotter something was, the further away she could "see" it, but the "blobbier" it was in her mind. She couldn't see things that didn't produce heat, so she couldn't see things like the shape of the ground, where the edge of a stream was, or if there was a steep cliff that led to nothing but air. Still, her heat vision allowed her to see hot things around her in a full 360 degrees. Surely, she could see the world the way the dragons did. At least, that's what the sages speculated.
Allegiance: Rebels
Occupation: (Ex-) Sage Attendant
Personality: Short Tempered, Cold, Stubborn, Decisive, Protective
History: Suri was born the only child to the fourth son of the noble Zaoxin family. Effectively, this meant that while her family enjoyed the luxuries of nobility, her father and mother held very little political power. Her father practiced firebending, almost religiously, and taught others how to bend at an esteemed dojo at the peak of the mountain next to the High Temple. He had earned the privilege of teaching there due to his masterful technique, and more importantly, because his father (Suri's grandfather) served as the current High Sage at the time. Unable to produce any other children, Suri's parents poured everything into raising her to bring the family honor. It was her father's attempts to teach her to be a great firebender that allowed him to first notice her ability to sense heat thanks to his keen eye for subtle details due to teaching many other students.

Her father bragged of Suri's gifted ability to her grandfather which set plans in motion for the Fire Sages to investigate her ability and to test if her father was lying. To their surprise, he had been telling the truth and they confirmed her ability. Unfortunately, her ability seemed to be immature, according to the theories of several Sages. The Sages felt such an auspicious child should be tutored under their care instead of learning how to break blocks of wood or other such nonsense. The High Sage, her grandfather, was one such Sage. Unable to disagree without bringing shame to the family, Suri's parents had no choice but to accept giving up their only child to the religious order.

Suri was saddened by the decision. She had spent her early childhood trying to do nothing but earn the praise of her parents, and now that she had finally earned it she had to leave them. She wasn't kept entirely isolated from them, but visits were infrequent and always closely supervised by a Sage. They didn't want Suri to become distracted from her academic studies, of which her time at the High Temple she spent the majority of her time when she wasn't being used as an errand girl for the elderly and pretentious Sages. Despite how much she disliked the Sages, she did take an interest in some of the topics of her studies, and the visits with her parents allowed them to grow closer and value what little time they got to spent together. Occasionally she would be caught sneaking around the High Temple's forbidden archive's dark passages trying to learn more about topics she was curious about. They would punish her, but they were somewhat pleased that she was sneaking around to do extra studying (even if it was forbidden) instead of trying to sneak out of the temple grounds or something. So punishments were rather light.

For a moment, Suri was beginning to become content with the path in life that had been chosen for her, but the politics outside the temple walls could only escape her knowledge for so long. During one of her skulking escapades, she discovered letters detailing that the Fire Lord had personally directed the High Sage to take her from her parents. The High Sage had actually tried objecting, but the religious sect of Sages (whom had always maintained control over religious matters) now had so little power that they could not go against the bully Fire Lord's demands. Suri was upset, but the new knowledge hardly changed the outcome, and it made her see her grandfather in a new, more positive, light. Bad news always comes in twos, though. Suri's parents had also learned of the Fire Lord's involvement. Her parents, along with most every member of the Zaoxin family for one reason or another, began publicly aligning themselves with the Fire Lord's dissenters. Only a week after learning the truth herself did the Fire Lord commence a large raid against her family...starting with the High Sage.

Fire Army soldiers assaulted the High Temple in the dead of night, taking sages captive from their beds, but the High Priest and several of his most loyal Sages retreated to the inner chamber and fought the soldiers to the death. In the chaos of the attack, Suri used her skill at sneaking and knowledge of every winding hallway to flee capture and escape the temple grounds. Scared and panicking, she rushed to her family home as fast as she could. But when she arrived, all she found was smoldering ashes and two corpses. She recognized them, but only barely, thanks to her mother's hair pin surviving the fires. Broken and traumatized, she swore vengeance that night.

With nowhere to go, Suri made camp in the wilderness outside Capital City and planned her revenge. She didn't want to just destroy those that had stolen her from her parents, and then stolen her parents from her. She wanted to punish their souls. Taking inspiration from the relatable legend of the Kemurikage, a story she had learned from the High Temple's murals, she decided to become a dark spirit herself. But instead of stealing children herself, she would deliver retribution to those that has stolen her from her parents. After fashioning a mask to conceal her identity and to complete her visual impersonation of the Kemurikage, Suri began raiding the Fire Nation at night. For almost a whole year she attacked supplies, assassinated loyalist, and created chaos. Superstitious soldiers that had survived her attacks even began to refer to her as "The Kemurikage". She fought with out fear of death, could disappear in flashes of smoke, could fight even in total darkness, and some could swear she could see people directly behind her.

For the longest time, she fought her war alone despite their being other rebels she could have allied herself with. After a while, though, she became frustrated with just how little of a dent here efforts seemed to be making. So, reluctantly, Suri joined up with the other rebels; though she went out of her way to never remove her mask in the presence of anyone and never tell anyone her name. As far as the rebels knew, she was simply "The Kemurikage". No one could be trusted after all. Eventually, it became clear that the rebels would lose everything and everyone. It was only a matter of time. They hatched a plan to try and escape the Fire Islands with as many people as possible and take refuge in the Earth Kingdom somewhere safe. Suri didn't like the idea of ending her personal war against the Fire Nation, but, in a brief moment clarity, Suri decided that she didn't want the Fire Nation to succeed in doing to those evacuating what they had done to her. So, she agreed to go along with the plan until they found the people a safe place to live, after which she would return to Fire Island and resume her war.

Name: Hiroki Munetake
Age: 19
Bending: While Hiroki has never been an especially talented firebender he is extremely dedicated to the art. However unlike most of the fire nation he has never much cared for the militaristic side of it, taking after the Fire Sages' investment in the spiritual he's more curious about it's relationship with the other elements and sees firebending as a source of research rather than a form of self defense.
Allegiance: Rebels
Occupation: Anthropologist
Personality: Hiroki is the type to be extraordinarily curious about everything. This has often led to him putting more on the line than would be advisable in the pursuit of knowledge. However more than just logical he's very interested in the spiritual world, if not entirely in tune with it. His being nostalgic for a period thousands of years before his time has lead to him being unabashedly against the Fire Lord's current militaristic views and at times a little too vocal about it.
History: Born to Fire Nation nobility, Hiroki was raised to be rather spoiled. The type who thought he could get whatever he wanted when he was young and took full advantage of it. Fortunately his grandfather was there to humble him and educate him on some more esoteric parts of Fire Nation history. The lessons ended up sticking and Hiroki pestered his parents until they pulled some strings to get him loosely under the tutelage of the fire sages due to family history, or more accurately got him access to their library. His parents also made sure he received some formal fire bending training however he never stood out as anything exceptional, just a diligent student. His studies got him very interested in the other nations of the world so from the beginning he's been against the war, not wanting their cultures damaged. His family was in support of his standing but with more political power were the first to be prosecuted for it. He was fortunately away from his home at the time and has been on the run since.
