THE RESURGENCE

???

"Air. Water. Earth. Fire.

This is the Avatar Cycle. Long ago, when we still knew the art of bending, the avatar would be reborn every lifetime. They were in the keeper of peace. The bridge between the two worlds. The protector of all. But the avatar disappeared. Though at first there was much chaos, humanity found a way to survive without an avatar. But the world soon began to forget its traditions, and a new age was brought. The world as we once knew became the subject of legends and children's bedtime stories Now a new threat rises from the dark. But I can feel it... the light is also reborn. The world will see its avatar again.

The world needs its avatar again."

The Dream:

(Up to you if your character has this dream)

Your eyes flutter open. You're lying down on something hard. You look down to see black polished stones littering the ground. You look up to see the sky is a dark grey. There are cliffs behind you that seem to stretch past the clouds like a never ending tower. It all feels so real, yet it's hazy, like you're in a sandstorm, or a static filled TV. You lift and yourself up and turn your head to look around. You're on a beach, but the air doesn't smell like salt, it isn't filled with the sound of seagull-crabs searching for their next meal. The wind reeks of death, and silence fills every empty space. Even the water is still without any tide.

You get to your feet, and notice they aren't yours. You look at your hands, they're someone else's. You're own body is so foreign. You go to the water to see your reflection, but there is none. You only see the murky grey below it. Suddenly you hear something...no...you feel something. You turn and walk along the shore.

It feels like hours pass, but you would never be able to tell. Everything is so still, days could go by and nothing would change. Eventually, a figure comes into view. The closer you get to it the more it seems to fade away. You find yourself going faster and faster, just trying to catch it, but it disappears once you stumble across a massive black tree with thick branches but no leaves. You get closer too it until you're face to face with the trunk. It looks old and slimy with... ink? You press your left hand to it and it comes back with a sticky black substance covering the palm and fingers that weren't really yours.

For the first time you actually hear a sound other than the scraping of feet against stone. A whisper tickles your ear. You freeze when a gentle hand grasps your shoulder. You turn around slowly, until you come face to face with a beautiful woman with light coffee skin, light blue eyes, and long black hair resting on her shoulders. She moved away quickly as you moved, her form levitating off the ground. She had giant rolls of torn fabric covering her body in the shape of a dress. It flowed around her like an aura. She seemed to be speaking, but only a few words were making it out.

"Come... moon... full... Find..." she said, looking through you more than at you, with a blank stare. A sudden surge of images raced across your mind. Streets, and signs all leading to an old warehouse in a trashy part of town. An address appeared, 4700 Ba Sing Se Avenue. She said one more thing, it was crystal clear. The way she said it was terrifying, like she had found so much pain in those words, so much sorrow, so much horror. "Save us," she said softly as the woman looked up towards the branches of the tree. You turn your head to try and focus on whatever she's seeing. You don't know how you didn't see it before. Hundreds of bodies adorned the black branches. Terrifying, gaunt faces looked down, lifeless. Some were large and bulky, while others were much too small. You stumble back to the ground unable to comprehend the atrocious sight. A rough bony hand grabs your shoulder. You turn to see the woman in a new petrifying form. Her face is gaunt as she gazes at you with cold lifeless eyes. She screams at you with the force of a hurricane "SAVE US!"

You wake up, glad to have the nightmare over with. You sit up and look at your legs glad to see you've got you're real self back. You look at your hands, and... what? You turn them over again and again, but nothing changes. It doesn't make sense. It was only a dream. You turn over you left and one last time to see dried black ink covering it like a mark on you soul.

(OOC: Go ahead and put your own variation on that last paragraph if you want. Sorry if this was a bit dark for you, but I'll try not to make it so gloomy for the entire RP. It's not gonna be all sunshine and rainbows either though. Remember it's your decision to let your character have this dream, and it's your decision whether or not he goes to the warehouse. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy trails)

(Oh, and here's my characters post)

He walked carefully through an alleyway. The streets around here weren't exactly the friendliest, and he didn't have a whole lot of friends in low places anymore. Best to watch his back around here, so he didn't get mugged or something. Li finally got to the warehouse. It was nasty. There was trash scattered everywhere, and graffiti (though he didn't particularly mind the artwork) marked the walls on almost all sides. The moon cast dark shadows across the buildings and cars making anything lit pop out like a bright canvas. He scanned the area. No one seemed to be around except for a few cats dukeing it out beside a dumpster. If this was the mystical place he was supposed find his "destiny" in, then they set his standards a little high. Y'know, whoever the hell "they" were.

A cold breeze blew by. Li flicked the hood of his jacket up and stuck his hands in his pocket. Well, what now? Do I start chanting things about spirits and hippies until something pops out and says boo? Maybe I could do a spooky dance on top of that car and summon the spirit of 'ha, you're a dumb ass for listening to a dream.' Honestly, he didn't know why he was here. He didn't believe in any of this crap, but he'd do just about anything to get the dreams to stop, and to get the ink off his hand. He kicked his feet a little before walking towards the brick wall to lean against. He honestly didn't want to believe this stuff was real, but someone breaking into his apartment and dipping his hand in paint while he slept seemed a little far fetched. Magic wasn't real though, if it was someone should've found it by now. He sighs and cracks his neck before leaning it back. "Maybe, someday you won't fall for crap like this, Li," he muttered to himself.

The alarm sounded with the most horrendous noise for Ai, and as she woke up she threw the clock against the wall, luckily for Ai, that was enough and the poor clock stopped ringing. Her hair was a mess, and her face seemed tired, it seemed as she only slept 7 minutes, clearly not enough, as she grabbed her toothbrush Ai caught a glimpse from her right hand, dark and dried, it seemed as she had dried marking in her hand, thus turning her face from tired to quite curious. And then Ai yelped when she noticed that she was quite late and still a shower behind, so she jumped into the shower throwing her clothes to the side and hurried to the dripping water, as she washed herself, she stumbled to her left arm and stopped for a second, quickly Ai hurried to finish showering as to put on some sporty clothing, mostly to be comfortable in the street, it was a green tank top and a sport jacket, tied at the end of her left arm stump, her pants were loose everywhere as it was the pants she used for Kung Fu, and at her feet some white martial arts shoes, they really help at running and jumping. "Shit, late for training, gotta run faster then" After saying that Ai climbed trough her window and left a note saying "left for training, Ai <3" and proceeded to climb trough some auxiliary stairs and got to the top, it was a small building but learning to master it s obstacules made Ai quite happy, 20 minutes of running across buildings later she found herself there, in her dream, flashes, 4700 Ba Sing Se Avenue, it was a trashy wareahouse in a trashy town. When Ai landed at the warehouse she found a great wall, actually quite a pretty wall with an awesome wall art, Ai actually knew the guy who painted it, she remembered the task at hand and swiftly threw herself at the edge of the warehouse, there was a guy! He looked as if he didn't want to be there at all, as sneakly as she could Ai hid there waiting.

"Save us."

"Save you?! How?!" Kyto asked as he awoke in a state of panic. Shirt, pants, pareo, socks, hands. It was just a dream. Again, he thought mentally checked himself

"Nightmare again Sleeping Beauty?" a crew member sleeping in the hammock next to him asked. "Anything new?"

"Yeah. Sorry Fong." the younger man replied as he rested his hands behind his head. "Just the same stupid address. You know where Ba Sing Se Avenue is in town?" Kyto asked with a heavy sigh.

"It's in the run down part of town. Not too hard to find, but everyone will tell you to stay out of those parts."

Kyto chuckled a little bit at the news. "Since when do I listen to the locals? Besides, if I run into trouble, I've got my fists and Tyr with me. Guess I should get up, we will arrive soon." He noted as he rolled out of the hammock. Grabbing his jacket and shoes he sat on the nearest bench and got fully dressed. Retying the pareo around his waist, Kyto made his was to the upper decks.

Several hours later Kyto was strolling down Ba Sing Se Avenue after being pointed in the right direction by the local cab driver. The cabbie had refused to travel down the road without a steep increase in pay, forcing the young man to walk. Leaving his hood down, the breeze felt cool on his skin as he counted the buildings. "2341...2783...3947...4590...4712 Where the hell is this place?" he muttered under his breath, the man's frustration building.

As he was about to give up, Tyr took off into an alleyway between two buildings and leaped into the warehouse. "Tyr! Get back here you damn dog!" Kyto shouted as he pursued the polar dog up to the warehouse. "4700." he mouthed silently as he read the address. That little idiot led me right to it. I'll be damned, he thought as he entered the property. "Tyr? Come here boy!" Kyto yelled in vain to call his pet to his side. He failed to notice the other two occupants of the building as he waltzed out into the main room.

Myra was already in Ba Sing Se Avenue, huddled up underneath a ragged old blanket. The dreams had been happening for a while, always the same thing. Screaming, a woman... Save people? What a joke that was, right? Who did she even have to protect anyway? It wasn't like the people she knew were exactly lining up to have anything to do with her. The one time she'd asked one of them for help, they'd just shut the door in her face in case someone saw her. Protecting people was what got her into this mess in the first place.

Despite herself, though, something had told her the dream was important, and Ba Sing Se Avenue was fairly close anyway to where she'd been living before. So instead of walking there all the time, she'd just changed her sleeping location. Once upon a time, she'd be able to get a shower or something right now, but her priorities were different. Eating was way more important for her health. As if to illustrate this, her stomach rumbled loudly. It was hard to get meals without stealing, and Myra wasn't about to start taking from anyone else, so she'd gone hungry. Again.

People would give her food sometimes, feeling sorry for someone so young out on the streets. She hated having to rely on their kindness like that - every time she actually got money, or food, it was 'cause someone felt sorry for her. If she could get away with it, she wouldn't accept it at all. A girl had to eat, though.

Rubbing her eyes, she glanced at the building next to her. 4700 Ba Sing Se Avenue. A warehouse - she'd been sleeping by the corner of the doors, but since she slept with her blanket covering her head, no-one would notice her while she was sleeping. There seemed to be a few people there, looking suspicious as anything if she was honest. Sitting up properly, she looked around. Even this many people, you never saw in Ba Sing Se Avenue. Something was going on.

"Any of you want to explain what you're doing here? I was getting some good sleep for once." she said, with a suspicious glare at the closest one, a guy who'd been stood there, muttering to himself. All she could hope was that they weren't gang members - if they saw her, she'd probably have to start running, or beat the crap out of them. Depended how many there were.

Kalista flinched as a spark hit her. She put down her welding tool, muttering under her breath, and put her burned finger unceremoniously into her mouth. As the clock struck the hour, signalling the end of her shift, she stood back to observe her handiwork on the large engine sat before her. She was so close to a breakthrough in fuel efficiency...

It would have to wait until tomorrow, however, as she put away her tools and turned off the lights in the old mechanic's shop. As she stepped out into the street, she swung her backpack over her shoulder and turned to lock the door. Then, she began the walk to the location she had been shown in her dream. Since the shop was in one of the poorer neighbourhoods, she only had to walk for a few minutes at most before she reached 4700 Ba Sing Sei.

No one here. Go figure, she thought as she stood outside the structure. However, she put down her bag and fished out a little metallic gadget resembling and empty picture frame, turning it on. It blinked and stalled for a few moments, until Kalista tapped it against the back of her hand a few times; then a see-through hologram appeared in the frame. She pointed it at the warehouse and looked through it, interpreting the vague outlines and colours as heat signatures. Looks like there are some people around after all.

Using her heat sensor as a rough guide, she walked around the building until she found a group. One girl looked as if she had been sleeping here, and Kalista wondered when the girl had last been home, or even if she had one for that matter. Have they all had the same dream? Or is this just some sort of coincidence?

Yeh-Lu was working at the gentlemen's club, walking around pleasuring the women. He was on all the posters outside, and most of the picture inside. He was the number one guy. He smiled his usual charming smile at all the ladies, they were swooning, and he swore he could hear some of them moaning. He was smiling at them, but his inside were screaming for them to leave him alone. Well at least all the ugly ones, some of them he would be happy to pleasure a bit more. And he did not go home alone that night. But a horrible dream woke him up, screaming.

"Honey, are you okay?" the lady asked, Yeh-Lu already forgot her name.

"Get out" he murmured.

"What?" she asked kissing his neck.

"Just get out" he said in a charming voice.

"Oh, you need space, sure!" she said immidiatley getting up, as she was about to leave she put a sticker on his fridge. Her number. She told him to call her any time, and then left with no response.

Yeh-Lu had had that dream for so long now. Normally when he spend the night with a girl he didn't have it, but the last few times the dream was there anyway.

"What the hell brain, you're psycking me out!" he said banging his head. It was already 4 in the afternoon, so he had to be at work in four hours. He decided to sleep just a bit more before he went to work. And when he woke up he saw it was seven, so he had to hurry. He put on some clothes and grabbed his hoverboard and made his way to the club. But he forgot tonight was ladies night so there were about 15-20 women outside when he got there, and they immidiatley recognized him and started screaming as if he was some sort of celebrity. He just looked at them and decided.

"I quit!" he yelled and flew off. He knew where he was going, and as he left the women behind he felt so alive he almost smiled. When he arrived at the adress he saw about four other people there.

"Hey yo, have any of you had a weird a** dream?" he asked them stepping down from his hoverboard lighting a cigarette...

Ai saw enough, enough people gathered down there, and they obviously didn't know each other, that was enough proof for her, danger was not really the case here so Ai proceeded to fall to the ground, landing quite sloppy as she still wasn't used to her missing left arm making her balance a little odd. As she did this Ai said "Hello strangers, waddup?" as chill as she could, it was a bit cringey but at least she tried.

What a stupid dream.

"The stupider idea, is you going to the place." Jamieson sometimes had this habit of talking to himself or his pet. Generally his albino fire-ferret.

His boots clicked over the footpath as he walked, slouched slightly to mask his height, the redhead was tense and very much on edge as he made his way toward a part of the city he was quite familiar with. It was more dangerous here, people like him and worse tended to spend a lot of time after dark conducting all sorts of shady activities. Some shadier than others. His breath hitched in his throat as the distant sound of voices caught his attention and in reaction he flattened himself against a wall, his breath becoming slow and soft.

This group didn't seem dangerous. It seemed, to him at least, they were a bunch of... strangers? Why the hell were they all doing here anyway? There was no way in hell that they'd all have had the same dream... right? Perhaps he'd chance it and just go scope out the group. Smoothing down his clothing, he took a deep breath and strode out casually, hands in his pockets.

"So, are we all here for the same thing?"

Yeh-Lu looked at all the people gathered. What a bunch of misfits he thought as he took another whiff of his cigarette. The girls were pretty cute though. So he totally ignored the stranger asking a question and went straight to the girls.

"Ladies, what bring you to this part of town, this is no place for...anybody actually. I'm a bit scared myself. But you two seem strong! So how about you console me a bit!" he opened his arms a bit to lure them in.

Myra stood up, pushing the blankets to the side. As much as she knew there had to be a reason for these people being here, she was suspicious of what it might be. There were too many for her to be confident of escaping if they were gang members, and it was clear on her expression that she didn't trust the intentions of the people who'd shown up. "Well, unless you were all having some sort of slumber party, I don't think we've been doing the same thing. Do you know how hard it is to get sleep around here?"

She shrugged, trying to look like she wasn't worried, but her clenched fists and tense posture showed otherwise. With a look at the people who'd just arrived, Myra noted some interesting features about them. The girl who'd just greeted them, for instance, had a missing arm, which made Myra raise an eyebrow. Interesting, although it seemed to be affecting her balance. Maybe it wasn't an old injury... Which only reinforced her worries that these people might be gang members of some sort.

Ignoring the guy that had apparently decided flirting was the best course of action - not that she'd bother telling him why it would never work, because she didn't trust these people in the first place - she looked at the group as a whole. "So why are you here? Are you guys gang members or something?" she said, the fear and tension that she felt clear in her voice. It was the only thing that made sense to her, after all. What other things could there be?

After all, Myra had come here because of her dreams, but she didn't have anywhere else to go anyway. For someone else who had somewhere to live to come here, even if they'd somehow shared a dream, just didn't make sense to her.

Ai blushed at the thought of someone flirting with her yet at the time of breathing in some "fresh" air instead finding smoke in her lungs, "cough, cough, my lungs hope you do fine on your own" turning to face the homeless girl, Ai said "I'm sorry to interrupt your sleep, I'm Ai, Ai Bao, I'm not with them, I was training and wanted to explore the area, a friend of mine usually comes to paint over here so I wanted to check it out, you don't know him do you?" It wasn't the truth yet it wasn't a lie, telling everyone she had a dream about the place probably wasn't the smartest idea.

Hearing more footsteps and voices other than his own, Kyto froze in place and stopped calling for Tyr. Upon regaining his composure, the whaler stood up straight and listened to the various questions from the group of visitors. None of them seemed like they knew why the others were here, including himself. Everyone was doing something different, but the only question that mattered was he guy who asked if they had had a crazy dream. "Crazy how?" Kyto asked before the guy decided to start flirting with two of the girls in the room. "Never mind then." He muttered under his breath and continued observing the band of misfits. They were all so strange. But he was the one who probably reeked of fish and saltwater.

Meanwhile, Tyr had run into Kalista and barked at her playfully. @Alnasl

Kalista had been studying a spot on her heat sensor, wondering if it was faulty, when the spot moved suddenly and a girl who was missing an arm fell to the ground. The corners of Kalista's lips turned up a little in the beginning of a smile as she put her bag at her feet in order to stow away the sensor, completely ignoring another boy's attempts at...whatever he was trying to do. She coughed a little at the smoke from his cigarette. Who even smokes anymore?

She sat down on the ground as the homeless girl spoke, inquiring as to whether they were all gang members. "I'm definitely not a gang member. Um...", she decided to tell the truth, on the off chance that the others were here for the same reason, "It may sound weird and crazy, but I came here because I had a dream, actually. I was hoping - " she was cut off by the bark of a large white something that looked like a cross between a polar bear and a dog. She tentatively reached out and stroked the animal on the shoulder, as high as she could reach sitting down, and looked around for the owner. She spotted a boy a bit older than her who was wearing some sort of cloth around his waist, and waved shyly.

Well, technically he was a gang member but there was no way in hell J was just going to tell them that.

"Gang members? Are you high?" Maybe they all were and just happened to gather here. Although, that wouldn't explain why he was here. He withdrew his hands from his pockets as he moved to lean back against a nearby wall. "I just felt like a walk and being sociable." There was sarcasm tinging his words and the expression on his face mirrored that emotion. "I just had some kind of weird dream, this place was in it. Dunno why." He glanced around it as if he'd never spent time skulking in the shadows in this place. "Thought I'd come check it out."

Ai was shocked, "woah, you guys had the dream too?" Ai scratched her right eyebrow and showed her I'm thinking pretty hard now and said "If we shared the dream that's actually really creepy, why are we here though?" Ai didn't know what to expect before, and she didn't really believe anything would actually be there, so now that she was there and heard that the others had the dream it felt more likely for it to be true.

Myra sighed, thinking about the situation. At least they didn't seem to be with the gangs, which was as good as she would probably get. For now, she'd take their word for it. There wasn't much else she really could do in this situation. Besides, they'd mentioned dreams - and dreams were why she'd started sleeping here, after all. Perhaps there really wasn't anything shady about their intentions. And after all, hadn't she had the same thing? "As crazy as sharing dreams sounds, I think I know what you're talking about."

She knelt down, folding up her blankets. It was a pretty token gesture, seeing as they were never exactly going to be tidy, but it made her feel better, having some sort of order to things. "I understand that the dreams were... Compelling. I understand how they could drive you to come here, that's for sure. If I had to guess, whatever we're supposed to find is deeper in the warehouse - and before you ask, I haven't rooted around in there. I've got enough trouble without sticking my nose where it shouldn't be."

With a slightly put-upon expression, she sighed. "Somehow I doubt you people will be quite so patient about this, so we may as well take a look. I imagine you have far more places to be than I do." she said, a little bit of resentment towards her situation showing in her voice in the last sentence. Myra was starting to look a little less suspicious of the group, most of the hostility fading from her expression by this point.

Kyto heard Tyr's playful barking and turned towards it to see a petite looking girl petting him and motioning for him. She had been in the middle of her sentence about dreams when the bark started, but everyone started talking about it after that. He quickly trotted across the floor to his pet and gave the girl a friendly gesture. "So it sounds like we're all here because of a dream. Some woman showed me this place in mine so that's why I'm here. As far as gang members go, I'm far from one." he stated calmly as he pet Tyr's head. He didn't plan on telling everyone who he was. At least not to be the first person. They were a band of strangers in a random warehouse. And all had some dream that led them here. Weird, he thought as he looked over the group to assess them. Homeless, flirt, missing arm, frail looking, sarcasm. Flirt and sarcasm look like they could handle themselves, as does the homeless girl, he continued silently.
