Name: Avatar LiAge: 17Gender: MaleEthnicity: Earth KingdomPosition: Dai Li Agent (Former)Team: The AvatarElement: EarthbenderAbilities: Stonehand Restraint Technique, Sandbending
Strengths:
  • Loyal:: The hardest thing he has ever had to do was abandon his people. He has a hard time reconciling the need to save the world above protecting his people. Breaking the trust of those who put faith in him would tear his soul apart. Faith is always to be rewarded. Never let those down who depend on you most.
  • Cautious:: His ability to stay calm, focused and in control of his emotions all come from his upbringing as an Earthbender. But beyond that, he is naturally gifted in judging when and how to press his advantage and make sure that the situation is neared in the best possible manner.
  • Understanding:: When all the world is in chaos and emotions are heated - he understands the value of listening first, learning, understanding and then reacting. The is nothing to be gained from judging another without first coming to know their ways. Every story has two sides - and not all tales need be ones of war.
Weaknesses:
  • Antisocial:: His upbringing within the military corps of the Dai Li has left him a quiet, obedient and reclusive individual. He is more than happy to sit alone and think about what his tasks are, rather than talking with others over mundane things. He does not like crowds, or noise, or generally people - having learned to be mistrustful of almost everyone.
  • Guiltridden:: His guilt over his forsaking the Dai Li, and leaving his people, to using his position as Avatar to lull others into a sense of false hope and security, while then also using his powers to undermine the welfare of the poor and the weak has left him utterly guilt-ridden. He hates his past actions and does not believe most of what he has done can ever really be forgiven. More than once he has thought of letting the cycle continue on, allowing another to try again. When the war ends... perhaps that might be for the best.
  • Evasive:: Fearing the idea of causing more harm, he tries to evade having to harm others as much as possible. Even if they are enemies. Even if they threaten his life. His loyalty to his allies is often the only reason he can raise a hand against a foe.

Personality:: A quiet, focussed, and somewhat sullen young man - The Avatar has been reduced to a hand within a greater system of order and control. He learned long ago that he is not allowed to ask questions, or even understand motivations. Laws are made for him to follow and enforce. The gnawing feelings of conflict within him have long since been quashed - spilling out only in moments of deep depression and spiritual emptiness. He feels alone even among others. He often thinks of their dependency on him, as well as his loyalty to them as a leash which is keeping him above the water, sparing him from drowning while at the same time cutting off his ability to breathe. The prospect of war terrifies him, yet at the same time - the idea of ending it and being granted freedom offers him some dark hope of a future where he is free to do with his life as he wishes. Often he finds that his innate compassion for others has him doing things his mind would consider stupid - his body sometimes performing acts of kindness and mercy when his brain is on autopilot. When he is inevitably caught out and punished he shuts out the world around him - aware of the many times he must have been brainwashed, aware of how many times he has done bad and been told it was good. And how many times he has tried to do good - or at least that which he feels must be good - only to have those efforts berated and moulded out of him. This has caused him to develop psychosomatic tremors - whenever he does something he knows to be good, something spiritually fulfilling, the excess adrenaline and his fear of retribution cause him to shake and his teeth to gnash. It may take hours, or even days for him to come down from that point - before he falls into his state of autopilot once more.

Name: Zhao (After his grandfather, Zhao the Conqueror)
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Fire Nation
Position: Formerly Nobility
Team: Team Avatar
Element: Firebender
Abilities: Somewhat practiced at Lightning bending but not fully proficient and still learning.

Strengths:

  • Bending: Zhao is an adept bender, being the son of a prominent family within the Fire Nation and thus having been taught by excellent tutors. He started getting to grips with lightning bending but fled before he could be fully taught. He also has some skill with a sword but that is secondary.
  • Knowledge: Apart from the wealth of information taught to him as a member of the nobility, he was also forced to learn the hard way on a number of things. Having been on the run for over a year, he has learnt about villages, leaders and locations aplenty in his efforts to survive the Firenation patrols and the Earth Kingdom rebels alike. This has allowed him to navigate around the Earth Kingdom and survive fatal mistakes.
  • Spirituality: In the time he has been on the run, Zhao has been forced to survive in the rugged and remote areas of the Earth Kingdom. This has led to a deep connection with the land and it's whims, feeling it within him as if it were a living creature. He finds nothing more relaxing that painting a flowing river with the sound of birds around him in a distant patch of land.
Weaknesses: (2-3)

  • Rash: When it comes to the safety of others and the needs of others, Zhao is rash and eager to help no matter what. Sometimes he just doesn't know when to give up or retreat to fight another day. He finds the concept of letting even a single soul suffer as reprehensible.
  • Pariah: To say he is alone is an understatement. He has not had true contact with anyone other than simple merchants for over a year. He would be killed by his own nation and the Earth Kingdom rebels both if they were to capture him. He has nothing left. No connections, no money and no allies. He is hated by all.
  • Emotionally strained: Ever since his family moved to the colonies as a child, many abhorrent things have been seen by Zhao. He has seen Firebending regiments burn down whole villages as his father sat with a smile, graves of innocents being dug en mass for people who's only crime were minor mistakes. His own father even made him give the order to kill a family of earth benders suspected of aiding the rebel cause even when obvious they were innocent. He has seen even more since his time on the run, the barbarism by his former countrymen. This has all left an emotional scar on him. A form of PTSD he struggles with from time to time.
Personality: Zhao has an innate inclination to kindness, willing to help anybody who needs his help whether they know him or not. His upbringing left a mixed impact on him. His grandfather was publicly a genocidal maniac who wiped the Water Tribes off the face of the earth and then tried to do the same with Ba Sing Se. His father was not much of a different figure. In private both seemed to him as just family. These were not evil people. It was only when his father was appointed the Governor of a colony that he saw the type of men they were first hand. He saw the famous 600 day Siege of Ba Sing Se with his own eyes. He found it...glorifying, the Firenation realizing it's potential. Eventually, he began to see that these were normal people, the citizens of the Earth Kingdom were not inferior. They were just people. He now seeks to remedy his former views and the actions of his family with every breath, no matter what it takes or how little thanks he will get.

History: Zhao is the scion of an old and famous line of nobility. In fact, he was born inside the Imperial Palace, his father being an adviser and link between the Firelord and his grandfather, Zhao the Conqueror. The man for who he was named. His birth came on the one year anniversary of the fall of the Northern Water Tribe, seen as a sign by his family of a future leader and Master bender. He grew up within the confines of the Imperial Capital as his grandfather mopped up large swathes of the Earth Kingdom. When all but Ba Sing Se had fallen, his father was appointed Governor of a large swathe of territory immediately surrounding the walled city. He can remember standing on the balcony of his veritable mansion and seeing the imposing walls in the distance. In these days, the citizens of the former Earth Kingdom were not treated as harshly, Firenation control only just being established. But as time passed, the brutality increased. Not that Zhao noticed or even cared, he was taught they were lesser and was too busy under the tutelage of master benders to be concerned. What did a bunch of inferior peasants have to do with him? They were just servants and slaves.

One of the most defining moments in his life came when he was asked by request of his grandfather to come see the infamous 600 day Siege of Ba Sing Se in person. Upon arriving in the war camp he saw the true devastation which he had only viewed from a distance. Bodies lay everywhere, a section of no mans land in between the camp and the outer wall filled with nothing but the Firenations glorious dead. As an impressionable teenager he was infuriated, how could a bunch of barbarians be allowed to kill so many? His grandfather played on these emotions and took him under his own wing. Becoming the Aide-de-Camp of the Conqueror. In this role he thought he would have a chance to prove himself and repay the debt to the peasants inside the city. He certainly got that chance but the outcome was not one he expected. One day, a servant was discovered smuggling contraband to the defenders of the city and he was dragged before Zhao with his entire family. His father and grandfather told him he had to give the order to execute them, they were traitors and so deserved a traitors death. As he looked into the eyes of the family, he felt nothing but sickness as they shivered and begged in fear. These were people. They weren't animals. Every moment he hesitated came another strike from his father. In the end, with tears in his eyes, he gave the order. The family was killed in front of him. He was then ordered to compose a letter about his "thoughtful leadership" that would be presented by his grandfather to the Firelord himself. The moment drained him of his humanity, his rage and emotions for months to come. He became an empty husk, following orders as if they meant nothing.

The Siege of Ba Sing Se eventually came to an end. But not as many thought it would. The morning was bright, the sun high in the sky, when the word came that the Outer Wall had been breached and an opening created. The Conqueror was about to add another medal to his collection. His grandfather gave the order to advance and Zhao watched as the army moved forward to carve a path through the breach and enter the Agricultural Zone. It was a disaster. Like a meat grinder the army continued it's relentless assault, dying en masse as the defenders of the city fought like lions. The Conqueror in his arrogance refused to order the retreat and went forward himself, believing he was "invincible" He was not. With the hit of one lucky Earthbender, the medal collection came to an end. The Conqueror was dead. His grandfather was dead. And he saw it all happen, along with the deaths of thousands. So with the Outer Wall breached and glorious victory all but assured, the army broke upon it, it's commander dead in a pool of blood and the High Command being forced to order an immediate retreat. The Walled City stood. His family legacy was destroyed in a single stroke.

In the aftermath his family was relegated to a poor and corruption filled colony full of bandits. The Governors mansion becoming akin to a small shack. Eventually he snapped out of his state and saw the truth before him. He could no longer be witness to atrocities and disasters. In that moment he gathered his belongings and fled, trying to join up with some form of rebel group. This did not end well and more than not they tried to kill him on sight. Over the year since he has established himself in the wilderness of the earth kingdom, eager to find a way to stand up to his countrymen who throw the lives of innocents and their own away like they mean nothing.

Nation:
Foggy Swamps

Bending:
Water/plants/healing

Personality/Bio:
Saliha was born in the Foggy Swamps and is the daughter of the chief. Growing up she lived a pretty happy life she was energetic and a hard working girl who was always practicing her bending. Her mother mostly taught Saliha everything. The tribe was very close, they were like one big family. Father was very big on teaching her this and about staying away from the outside world. "Remember this Saliha the tribe always come first. Everything we do is to protect the tribe our family. You must never leave this swamp. The outside world is a dangerous place and you can't trust anybody." Even though she was told this about a million times Saliha couldn't help but be curious. All she had ever known was the swamp. She wanted to know what else was out there but she didn't want to disappoint her father. Besides, one day she would be in charge of the tribe. Though she never really had the interest to. Saliha could be a stubborn girl, she would be determined to do things her way or not listen. Sometimes she would end up right and other times she would be really reckless and up in trouble. Part of the reason why she was reckless was because she had a curious nature and sometimes she just couldn't fight it.

The Foggy Swamps wasn't a usual place people would enter but their were times where strangers would pass through. The tribe usually just kept hidden and stayed quiet whenever a stranger did happen to pass through. Because of this is it was unknown to anyone that people actually lived there. There were times Saliha would want to show herself and talk to the strangers but she was good and never made herself known. That was until one day Saliha saw a man, who was badly injured came into the forest. He seemed to be bleeding and was in terrible condition. She wanted to help him but the others told her told leave him. Saliha thought that was much to cruel. She knew the rule was to keep their identity safe but to let a man was in serious condition just lie there and slowly die it wasn't right. Not being able to ignore it she made herself known and appeared before the man. Come to find out the man was a fire bender and a hurt solider. She helped healed him and started to become friends with him. Her father was furious at what she did and told her to stop seeing him and to make him leave but of course she didn't.

Soon enough she started to fall for him and it seemed like he was falling for her to. Saliha felt like she was on cloud nine she was so happy. But of course that happiness wouldn't last. The fire bender told Saliha how he wanted to stay with her and her tribe and wondered if he could meet them and the chief. Saliha of course was happy about this and she ended up telling him where the tribe was and that she would talk to her father first before she brought him. Saliha ended up fallen asleep with him but the next day when she woke up he was gone. She looked around and didn't see him anywhere and she assumed he went to find food for himself. So she went on back home when she got there though she couldn't believe what she saw. She stood there in shock and confused. The place had been completely burned to the ground and except for a few dead bodies everyone was gone. Her eyes then noticed him, the fire bender. She stared at him and asked him who had done this. Without looking at her he said the fire bender soldiers had done it. But why? Why would these people attack her tribe and take them? How did they even know where they were? Then it hit her. He was the one that told them and then they attack. She tried to get him to answer why but he just stayed silent. Tears started streaming down her face and she watched as he walked away. Then suddenly she yelled out. "I swear if I ever see you again I'll kill you!! You hear me?!" He stop for a moment. He looked like he was going to turn around but he started walking again and disappeared into the fog. Saliha went around desperately trying to find survivors. But sadly there was none that is until she found her father breathing slowly laying on the ground. She ran to him and bent down crying saying she was sorry. He looked at her and gave her sad smile. Her father died but before he did he tried to console her saying not to blame herself and that it wasn't her fault but it didn't help. Saliha was now totally alone. There was nobody left. Her once energetic and happy self was now gone, full of anger and self hate. Her eyes had become lifeless. Never would she leave the forest and never again would she ever trust anyone especially fire bender. If she ever saw one again. She would kill on sight.

The swamps now are said to be haunted with ghost and monsters and anyone that goes in can never fully cross through cause they usually run scared for their life. They would never guess it was just a single girl controlling the swamp and making it come to life.
