World Building Authority of Terra- Worldbuilding

Overview

Selee-01

All according to my Scenario
It is the year 7987.

The Authority of Terra relies on the mysterious Hammond Equations to generate power, teleport, levitate, and go faster than light itself. The Equations are created and calculated by the Distance biocomputers, as a human mind could not maintain the focus needed. However, a mysterious species of extradimensional beings attacked two hundred years ago.

These beings are called Aberrations.

A single Aberrant can devastate a world, and utilizes alien geometry to generate eldritch effects on the local terrain. The only way to fight them is via the Harbingers, supermecha that exploit the Hammond Equations to occasionally land a blow. They are... fickle, to say the least, and most prospective Candidates are either confined to mental hospitals or quietly disposed of. The few who can rein in the Harbinger’s intellect are capable of facing the Aberrant on a nearly equal footing.

Why is everything named in the way they are?

EDIT:

Most specifically, why are the Distance supercomputers called Distance, what are hammond equations really, how were Aberrations called that, and why are the mecha Harbingers?

Distance computers ‘go the distance’. They’re incredibly powerful, extremely fast, and work 24/7.

Hammond Equations are, essentially, a glimpse into a realm or brane where reality does not work like ours. This realm can interact with our reality, but without limits and care bad things will happen.

Aberrations are called that because they shouldn’t exist. They can be shimmers of light, skyscrapers of crystal, giant monsters, living fluid, and God knows what else. Plus, reality doesn’t like their existence.

Harbingers are, simply, a sign of the future. A future that does not include humanity as we know it.

I greatly appreciate the OOC context you've considered. Nonetheless, why would the harbingers especially be called this inside the story?

In universe? Rule of cool. If you’re making a mecha that’ll save humanity, you want a cool name for it.

So how did the current status quo of the world come to be? are the Distances the ruling class/sentient or just the mathematic engines that run everything? Also, how does Hammond physics actually work?

Is it like some form of practical-and-usable version of the barnarch tardski paradox?

The Authorium was created centuries ago, to unify humanity beneath one flag after a Dark Age occurred. The Dark Age was likely caused by an early experiment with Hammond Equations.

A Distance is not self-aware. They’re essentially giant calculators, albeit extremely powerful.

Hammond Equations allow for stable portals to another dimension, and the extraction of energy. It’s immensely efficient, and has supplanted other means. They also can be applied to selectively turn the laws of physics off.

So Hammond equations can basically shut off parts of reality selectively and also extract energy from unknown/alternate dimensions and maybe vacuum fluctuations or something?

Alright, so is a Hammond.. mechanism... just overwriting an area of reality around it to follow the laws of a different universe's system?

Are Aberrations meant to be the denizens of these dimensions or a result of the equations themselves?

Basically, yes.

Aberrations are the native life of these dimensions. The Equations are destroying their reality, so the best and brightest of their species are sent to save them.

OK, so this isnt necessarily meant to be an RP, what sort of characters are you thinking about, or are you not considering that yet?

I have a few ideas for characters, but nothing concrete. I'll definitely subvert tropes, though.

Subversion on its own isnt very interesting. Can you better define what you mean?
For instance, the leader who is implied to be evil is actually good, and dedicated to humanity.

Mega-Corporations are mostly good people.

Okay, but how does this work out? What base are you flipping around? Why these ones in particular?
