Name: Captain Atticus "Atti" Sol

Age: 29

Gender: Male

Species/Droid Type: Human

Description: Atticus is a rugged-looking human male with sharp features and a rebellious, masculine air around him. His edgy look is often polarizing to women, catching the eyes of some and utterly disgusting the others. Atticus is often seen with neatly trimmed hair that he takes great pride in, and distinctive high collar coat. Inside the coat's deep V-neck line cutting into his chest is a small, flat pendant in the image of a planet with a ring around it. No one's really sure what it means, and unfortunately, Atticus is not inclined to tell. Besides that he carries a veritable armory of at least seven blasters on his person at all times. Two are readily visible on his hip holsters while the others are hidden in various locations around the rest of his body. Perhaps the greater mystery is where the hell he keeps all these guns, but for your sanity, it's probably better you don't ask.

Personality: Atticus Sol is a charming, tricky professional thief with a penchant for hilarious antics. His arrogance, only matched by his occasional narcissism, compels Atticus to explore his curiosities and make many a foolish decision which he often inelegantly resolves with a blaster. Politeness and his trademark charm indeed appear infrequently to the blunt captain except when it suits his interests. However, as his crew knows, Atticus is a good captain—just rough around the edges. He may be a liar, cheat, thief, and overall prick, but he cares deeply for his crew. It may come to some's surprise that Atticus does have a moral compass and a peculiar line he does not cross that quickly manifests itself when good people are in danger.

Still, despite his eccentric personality, he has an intriguing set of skills to his name. Atticus is a good shot with a blaster, a skilled swindler, and, in times of stress, a leader. He's also quite obsessed with his chosen weapons; Atticus is known to carry around no fewer than seven blasters on his person at all times. He is quite attached to each one of them, even going as far as giving them individual names. In his off hours you might see him drinking and trying to schmooze women frequently in the local cantinas, often to little avail or sometimes disaster. Causing trouble is, in fact, one of his main talents, as is his strange charisma that keeps his crew from mutinying every five minutes. Atticus often becomes quite cagey when prodded about his past, giving half truths and evading questions as best he could. To you Atticus is an idiot, a comrade, and a mystery all in one. An interesting combination for sure.

Background: Atticus was born an orphan on the colossal man-made rings surrounding Kuat, which acted as both one of the galaxy's most enormous space stations and ship production yards all in one. He and dozens of other space-born kids stuck together, working hard on odd jobs or stealing to survive. The rings' other residents looked down on him and the other kids are urchins and a pest. More than once Atticus started a fight after hearing insults directed at his friends, quickly becoming known as an infamously rebellious and insolent child. He hated the elite with a passion and viewed them all as greedy, evil tyrants.

That's until he met Her.

Lexstra Auria, daughter of the Kuat of Kuat, was a princess. Any family of the CEO of Kuat Drive Yards was practically royalty, and she was right at the very top. She was the antithesis to everything he thought about the wealthy. Atticus believed them to be ruthless, greedy, elitist, corrupt, and dishonest; Lexstra was kind, charitable, inclusive, ethical, and truthful. She, stumbling into the rundown little shack they'd repurposed into a home and claiming she was lost, shook his whole world.

It didn't help that she was really pretty too...

In any case, Atticus quickly discovered himself acting a sort of liaison between the kids and Lexstra as he was the bravest of them and considered the leader. Lexstra soon started telling him all about life as a princess. About how she didn't have any friends and felt lonely. About how she wanted to learn to fly a spaceship. About her curiosity for the lives of the people her father told her to stay away from. Atticus was cautious at first, but quickly grinned widely.

"Come with me then. Let me show you around," he said, grabbing her hand and tugging her gently along. He finished with a wink. "Friend."

Her parents didn't approve of her excursions with the little urchins, but Lexstra had a way with words and the stubbornness to back it up. They begrudgingly allowed it under the supervision of her uncle and some bodyguards. All the urchins quickly became friends with the friendly princess, but they all knew Atticus was always the closest. Many a time they'd tease him about his "girlfriend," prompting a blush and outbursts of, "Shut up!" almost every time. It was quite amusing to them, but it really got to Atticus. He soon developed the biggest crush of his life.

Lexstra and he would often fly together on spaceships she'd borrow from her uncle. He tried hard, and got quite good, but knew she was always the better. Where he was a strong pilot she was absolutely breathtaking. Atticus had a hard time believing Lexstra wasn't part space-fish at times. Then they turned eighteen, and, out of the blue, she told him that she wanted him to join her at the Imperial Naval Academy at Prefsbelt IV—the most premier naval training institution in the entire Imperial military. Atticus' jaw dropped.

"Atti, please. I know we can get in! I have lots of clout!" she pleaded, waving her arms excitedly. "Besides, you're a really good pilot! I know they'll accept us."

The young orphan hesitantly agreed. He was sad to leave his friends, but excited for the possibilities of a promising military career. All the other kids cheered the two of them on wildly as they left Kuat, so proud of their leader for passing the initial entrance exams and going on to do great things. With a pretty girlfriend, nonetheless!

Suffice to say, however, Atticus struggled. He really had to grit his teeth and fight to work his way through the academy. Meanwhile Lexstra, who seemed to exude that damned friendly and compassionate atmosphere everywhere she went (which he loved, but mildly got on his nerves), blew every benchmark out of the water. She was the most talented pilot to come through in decades.

Atticus and she both graduated, but as per usual, Lexstra got far more attention. She was the best. He was trash. It made him start to resent her a bit, deep inside, but he held it in for now.

Then active deployment occurred, and soon, the Palaven Purges. You see, working for the Empire changes people. Brings out the ugly darkness they keep hidden to light, and forces them to decide what kind of person they were going to be.

Lexstra, as it turned out, had already decided. So did Atticus. Their arguments over the horrors of the Empire, and the war, scarred their relationship forever. Atticus could not believe there was any justification for the terrible things they had done. But Lexstra refused with her trademark stubbornness, expertly turning the conversation on its head and driving Atticus to a corner. He was in the wrong. Or was he?

Then the Battle of the Citadel. One of the bloodiest battles in Imperial history. Here, in the midst of the chaos, Atticus realized he had enough. With precision under the cover of mayhem, the pilot quickly faked a death, disappearing behind the flashes of explosions to escape and run. Run away as far as he could. Atticus was a traitor.

He always wondered if it was the right decision to run away, to allow her to believe he perished. If he should tell her that he was still alive. Cowardice, however, prevailed. Now Atticus resides in the Outer Rim as a broken shadow of his former self, returning to his thieving roots and spending his life running away from his past.

Perhaps it's about time redemption arrived.
