Carleigh
;; maja

BASICS
name: Maja Erika Tyra Carleigh
nickname: May
age: 23
gender: Female
sexuality: Bisexual
p.o.b: Stockholm, Sweden
ethnicity: Swedish
role type: Royal

VISAGE
hair color: Blonde
eye color: Green
height: 5'2
distinguishing features: Resting bitch face which can be spotted from miles away
body mods: a 'The Empress' tarot card tattoo on her upper left arm
faceclaim: Amanda Seyfried

PERSONA
Maja is the type to tell you to never message her again, and expect a message back straight away. A life of comfortable isolation and luxury has moulded Maja to be the prime example of what a 'bitch' is. Talking to Maja is like talking to a narcissist because that is exactly what she is, expecting the most from everyone around her as she lounges around in comfortability.

When it comes to interacting with other people Maja is definitely not someone you'd consider pleasant, or considerate for that matter. She enjoys being the centre of attention, vehemently believing all attention is good attention, she usually does centre herself in the middle of someone's drama, mostly due to her instigative nature. Willingly pitting people against each other, her favourite phrases are, "are you really going to let them say that to you?" - "personally I wouldn't take it" and of course, "you let them call you what?!"

Maja is also known for being quite the manipulator, gaslighting and lying her way through life. She struggles with being put below people, finding it hard to leave the mantle of The Queen Bitch. Being a material girl has gotten her a lot of possessions she holds dear, her wardrobe full of fancy and shiny dresses she only wears once then retires back to the wardrobe forever.

It seems like wealth, endless affirmation, affection and a life of doing nothing really aren't good for the human psyche, but Maja makes it work, because if you can't be the biggest baddest bitch in your own life, how do you expect to be the Queen of the world?

hobbies - snowboarding, hiking, fencing, shopping

fears - Despite how perfect she claims she is, Maja has fears. She fears abandonment, not being needed, and she ABHORS being anywhere but first place in absolutely anything

habits - She absolutely can't break the habit of biting her lips. Another peculiar habit she has is she picks up on other people's mannerisms and habits, if someone she fancies runs their hand through their hair she may just pick up on it and do it too. This goes for anything, unconscious tapping, breathing patterns, walking patterns, everything.

love language - physical touch, sarcastic flirting

mbti - entj

goals for the aphrodisia - to fill her own self-esteem, getting endless compliments and gifts from people who would obviously notice just how perfect she is. Or maybe, deep inside her somewhere, she might just be interested in meeting someone who can ground her in reality.

BACKSTORY

family - being raised in literal royalty, her family was fairly absent, being raised by the palace helpers more than her family.

residence - raised primarily in the Stockholm Royal Palace, however, she considers it to be rather boring, spending most of her time in her family's estate up north in Tromso. She considers the scenery to be quite beautiful, enjoying time in the snow near the mountains.

history -
an only child in a family of royals, most of her fun derived from time spent with the most real person she knew, herself. Maja has been drowned in superficial love but starved of actual love and care, this reinforced her fragile perception of herself at a young age, quite literally instilling a god complex in her. She has never had any 'actual' friends, many of them just being family friends she'd hang out with as they were the only people she was exposed to.

the closest thing she ever got to an actual parental figure was her fencing coach, a gruff no-nonsense man from Russia. A world-renowned fencer and coach to high-class personnel, Viktor Zhachevko has had experience with brats, and to date he has been the only man to actually put Maja in her place and make her listen during classes, being one of the few people she respects.

the few times her family has properly engaged her have been during family and state functions, such as balls and other fancy dress events. She loved dressing up and would take any excuse to cover herself with expensive clothes and jewels, representing a physical manifestation of her narcissism.

in truth, Maja's life has never been super eventful, she was never part of a royal scandal, never engaged in the public eye and on a global level was fairly unknown. Maja has always had aspirations to change that, but how can a simple princess locked away in the northernmost parts of Europe make a splash in the world? Maybe, just maybe Aphrodisia has the answers for her.

headcanons -
- a queen instigator
- might just try to read your tarot
- very superstitious
- one of those people who will see a message and consciously decide to reply back to it hours later, despite having an abundance of time to reply to it right then
- very petty, will inconvenience you for fun
- will do something just because you told her not to
- does have chronic RBF (resting bitch face)

A charming fool; a man with a heart of gold and a mind equally as malleable. Whatever your lasting opinion of him, most can agree (even if so grudgingly) that Orion Ying is a good guy. He exists with such an easy kindness, from things as simple as offering words of encouragement to as meaningful as giving up a precious opportunity for someone who needs it more. Orion is fearless, and with a moral compass always pointing steadfastly to the north, he has rarely hesitated to do the right thing.

He has his flaws, of course, and some will scathingly say that his fatal one is being an idiot. Desiring the spotlight and the praise of others, Orion's kind actions (though always done with the best intentions) always have a tinge of self-importance. He believes in his own pristine quality as a person and doesn't hesitate to implore others to agree. But even if he's hard to change, he nevertheless accepts criticism wholeheartedly and will admit to his mistakes (though he may need someone else's harsh scolding to realize them).

Yet when others say that Orion Ying's fatal flaw is being an idiot -- well, that statement extends far past the silly arrogance in his persona. In his grandiose tales, Orion will call himself the worst underboss of all time, but that claim is no stretch of the truth. Impulsive is not the right word, but Orion has never needed a mind sharper than a blade or a heart harder than stone. He never needed the guarded consideration of the intentions of everyone around him, never needed to analyze the world like a chessboard in a match to the death. Because he is -- was a normal guy, and he was never meant to be a criminal mastermind. So if he makes foolish decisions, emotional decisions, decisions that summon all the waiting wolves around him to jump at any moment of weakness -- well, sue him for never having needed to know better.

โ€”
history.

It was a somber day, her mother would proclaim, when Lucy Lau had gotten married.

Some would argue otherwise, because Lucy Lau and Ying Cheung had tied the knot in the ides of April, out on the beachfront on the southern coast of Hong Kong. The sun had lit the sand in coral and lilac hues as it began to set, and when the two lovebirds shared a kiss, a smattering of white birds flew over their heads in photographic formation. By all accounts, it was a beautiful day, an untainted one.

But Lucy was a woman in her mid-30s -- unmarried until that moment -- who had foolishly chased after and committed herself to a man six years her junior. That is what her mother will say, bitterly. Not only that, she chased after a man without a college education, a man who worked simple jobs fixing pipes or toilets and whatnot. And as if to top it off, this leech of a man came with a ten-year-old child, an unfortunate product of youthful stupidity and a rightful rejection from a casanova's forgotten fling.

It is not to say that Lucy Lau and Ying Cheung's marriage was the sole, fateful reason for the end of all things, but it was certainly the catalyst for the frigid wedge that was drove itself in between Lucy and her family. She took it in stride, however. A year after the union, she had Orion, raising him and his older half-brother Atlas in a passable apartment in Hong Kong, before landing themselves a nicer one in Singapore and moving there four years later.

And it was there where Orion grew up, experiencing a blissfully happy childhood and love from all sides. In fact, he had never seemed to have lost in his life. His family was comfortably upper middle class; though he had mediocre grades, never once did his family shame him for it or push him beyond his limits; his brother, eleven years his senior and forever understanding the impact he would have on a younger brother, always stuck around to teach him little lessons, show him incredible sights, treat him to small bites of happiness; and at school, he was always popular, always attracting good favor and a group of genuine friends despite his many flaws.

But even so, he was really, truly normal. Though he had a profound talent for martial arts -- one that eventually landed him in international competition -- he was just another teenage boy, struggling with grades and hanging out with his friends after school. Though he was cousins to the Tsais, the wealthiest family in Macau (which made their Chinese New Year visits akin to entering another world), he lived in a comfortable, three-bedroom apartment -- more fortunate than most, but not absurdly so. Though his father, who supposedly was a bum who barely managed to get through trade school, always was away on long, long business trips, whenever he returned, they had family dinners filled with favorite foods and nostalgia.

Life for Orion was easy and painless; everyday, he stared into the Sun and basked in its never-wavering warmth. Perhaps, he had been blinded. Perhaps, he blinded himself.

The solar eclipse came when he was 23, four months fresh out of university with a finance degree. He had finally landed himself a decent job -- nothing at the biggest, most respectable companies, but it was more than enough for Orion. On a Thursday, when he heard that his brother had returned from Hong Kong that day, he took the rest of the day off and immediately returned to their childhood home.

And as the moon crossed the Sun, Orion opened his bedroom door to a crumpled body, blood leaking from his gut and purple bruises crowning his neck. A familiar figure, with a stream of crimson dribbling down his clothed shoulder and a wild lack of composure in his eyes. Stupidly, Orion's first question was why here? He thinks that what happened was a mistake, but in the months that followed, Atlas had always been cold and vague, saying that it was too convoluted for a civilian like Orion to understand.

What is there to misunderstand? Orion would respond, Look, I found you with a dead guy, so I'm understanding that you killed someone! You're a murderer. Why should I trust you, when you apparently killed a man and still dare to lie to my damn face, ha, maybe I should watch my back in case you're after me too now ...

And Atlas Ying -- carefully composed older brother, too mature for his age, even in youth, with too heavy an understanding of responsibility -- crackled with a dangerous lightning he had never let free. The edges of his form cracked in a way no pseudo-parent's would ever allow in front of their children. Atlas, 34, looked Orion in the eye and told him how lucky he was. How lucky, that he never had to live with their father when they were poor and struggling, that he never had to see the times when they relied on welfare and lived in a shoebox with no AC in the thick of Hong Kong summer, that he never had to see Ying Cheung's stress manifest into cruelty. How lucky, that he was too young and stupid to become his father's treasured partner, that he did not have to see the Nighthawk's rise to a power tinged by the blood of too many innocents, that he did not have the wits to afford being taken on as his accomplice. But how lucky he was, that despite his stupidity, his blithe arrogance, his privileged ignorance, he was never turned away; never hated, always loved, always adored; that he never had to uplift everyone, and that everyone around him served to uplift him.

Hours after this defeated harangue, Atlas came to apologize. Orion accepted it. In his heart, nothing between them has really changed; he still loves his brother, still treats him with all the same comfort and joy. But he can't deny that Atlas was right. Orion never really struggled, and he always knew this, but he never before considered how much those alongside him had carried burdens for him to live such a life. He had always been lucky, lucky enough to win; but winning means that someone else has to lose, and Orion has spent too much of his life inflicting defeat on his compatriots.

And Atlas is right in saying that Orion doesn't understand much at all. But he loves his family, loves his normal, good, perfect family, and understands that sometimes they do bad things but always for a better reason. And as a man who loves his family, he wants to help them. Orion understands that people aren't black and white, grudgingly accepts that good people do bad things, blinds himself to the thought that maybe they are bad people who have done good things for him.

Right now, he just handles the finances. It's easy; just numbers and money. And it's easy to avoid thinking about where the money came from and how it was won, as long as Orion thought about his supportive father and his steadfast brother and his sympathetic mother.

(Atlas promised that he wasn't a murderer, that he didn't get blood on his hands until he really, really had to. That he and Dad just did tame, okay things that involved money.)

If Orion closes his eyes, blood just looks like love. And blindness is just staring into the sun.
