Fandom Andromeda Rising

UNEARTHING THE PAST It was an exciting new day in Andromeda. With major victories won, and the human homeworld safely secured from the Kett; all seemed to be moving forward swimmingly. With the alliance between the Angara and Initiative races firmly cemented in by the tremendous success; more access to resources, technology and information began to be freely shared, as both groups hoped to further their understanding of each other. As the ancient terraforming systems hum to life across the universe; more forgiving climates and environments begin to replace the harsh unyielding worlds that were left in the wake of the kett. With this development, researching and exploration is able to reach newer heights. Allowing explorers and researchers a stronger foot hold on planets once deemed hostile environments. One such major discovery is made on the planet of Voeld.

As the deathly frigid temperature begins to warm, melting century old glaciers, and revealing lost landscapes and Remanent vessels; another strange encounter was made. Angara from the Resistance discovered a strange pod; frozen beneath the ice. The technology did not resemble any of their own designs, nor did it echo that of Remanent or kett technology. Most alarming was the clearly identifiable human lettering labeled across its side. --'ECHIDNA'

The strange anomaly was reported to Nexus operations, which baffled researchers and experts. Not much could be identified about the pod other then its human design. With the mystery hanging in the air as to how a pod had been frozen beneath nearly 200 years of ice; the Nexus gathered a small group of experts, and sent them to the Nol system to investigate.

-----------------------------------------------------

"So--..." Dr. D'yseria was about to start barraging Dr. Che with questions again and the human scientist could feel it coming. She stared at the asari expectantly.

"So what do you think it is?" The asari finally blurted out and leaned forward in interest as the shuttled took a smooth course towards the dig-site. They were to meet Resistance members at the rendezvous who would take them to the discovery they had been working on freeing from the ice.

Dr.Che sighed and rolled her eyes. "For the last time, Jinmera --I don't know anything more than what the report said. There's no record of a tech manufacturer by the name of 'ECHIDNA' anyway... it almost sounds like some sort of evil superpower." The human slouched in her seat. She didn't want to get too excited over what they would find. After all if it turned out to just be a piece of junk, it would have left all the hype for naught. Still there was a part of her that couldn't help but imagine what lay locked away in that mysterious crypt.

"The report also said it was pod of some kind..." Dr. D'yseria couldn't help but probe further. Though they were making huge discoveries with Remanent tech, --this had been completely out of left field-- how did a piece of human tech make it all the way out here even before the Initiative was an inkling of an idea. The venture was an extremely ambitious one and anything inside the pod could be considered a relic.

"I doubt there's anything alive inside. If it's pre-alliance tech, it couldn't have held together for that long..." Ever the voice of reality, Dr. Che was still resistant to getting her hopes up. The asari pouted at her, but sat back in her seat.

"We'll see..." The blue skin beauty uttered with a sly smile.

About an hour later they had finally reached a remote site near the base of a mountain. The shuttle found a landing zone just outside the large cave mouth of which a new daar was just beginning to be established. Thanks to the quelling of the cold here, the Angara could now begin reclaiming lost daars that had been taken over by the rolling tundras. It was how this pod had come to be discovered. The two scientists disembarked the shuttled with a small team of Nexus security personal. They were to meet with the group of Resistance that would aid them in recovering the human artifact. Their hosts were already waiting near the entrance of the daar, and greeted the researchers graciously.

"Welcome-- Initiative researchers, yes? I am Major Qarsal In-- I am here to provide assistance with the recovery. My men will escort you to the area--" The Angara who approached them was a broad shouldered soldier, and he was eager to get the strange object out of the daar. It made him uneasy and he was too happy to provide the men for the removal. He gestured to a group of Resistance soldiers and instructed them the guide the team and make sure that everyone returned safely.

With the evolution of Meridian and the defeat of the Archon in a justifiable battle, the Angara had the opportunity to begin life anew in their worlds. Of course, for their lives there to be as exceptional and as gracious as it had been before the Kett arrived there, it will take hard work. However, many of them had hoped that within due time-- whether that be a decade or yet another millennia--, their people would thrive again.

Though, while they had been busy with establishing and revitalizing new daars on Voeld, the most bizarre thing-- item, had been found gradually thawing away from being encased in ice. It was strange, and didn't appear to be of any Angaran artifact to them. Along with the general appearance, the lettering and symbols that were sprawled across the external, smooth wall of the object -- "ECHIDNA"-- were nothing of Angaran origin.

And with a little help from a transcriber or two, they soon figured out that this capsule was not even of Voeld, or even the Vol system. To be quite accurate, the capsule was from the Milky Way. But that wasn't the most peculiar fact; The most alarming thing was that this tech, and whatever could be in it, was many centuries old. The Nexus had not long arrived to Andromeda, so to have something like this-- ancient, human, post-frozen...

"..It's about time the Nexus came to retrieve that thing-- Who knows what could be in there." A male Angara, a soldier in The Resistance, spoke amongst the group of other Resistance soldiers. His skin was emerald, in color, and his frame wasn't very broad. He didn't sound pleased about the discovery that they recently made, and his facial expression could show his slight disgust.

"Oh, calm down, Dorvo. It's not the end of the world just because we are the ones on duty to make sure that this transfer goes through." Another Angara remarked, a female this time, towards the male who was surely outspoken about how he felt. "Besides,... I think it's quite interesting that we discovered something like this from another time and from another place... It's refreshing to know that there is still so little we know about our own worlds, and so little about what has been left behind."

"--Soleye. I'm not going to have such a discussion about this again. You always.. disregard my concerns, either way--" Dorvo immediately begun his rebuttal, only for his statement to be cut short by the female's words.

"-- You're always distrusting of everything, and if you weren't my brother, I would probably push you off the peak of the mountain-- Do you hear him, Ahneh?--" Soleye blurted out, focusing her attention towards another Angara within the group who had not been saying anything.

His tone was much darker than the two of them, though his eyes were as pink as blushing flesh. His demeanor was a bit uncaring, and his face screamed that he would have rather not been bothered. However..

"Honestly, I don't want to be between another argument between the two of you, as your disagreements seem to never get anywhere.... But, if the two of you are going to burden me with this, then I'm going to have to side with Dorvo this time: I don't care what's inside; I just want the Nexus to claim their capsule and leave us be.." Ahneh said, his arms folded across his chest while his eyes had been focusing on the conversation that was being held between the Major and the two aliens that were in Nexus attire.

Within seconds of that moment, the group of them had been beckoned over and been explained to what their current mission was-- which was to guide the Nexus group through the daar and lead them towards that capsule.

"Hm... Your... Nexus possession is just some hundred meters through the cave. We were just starting on getting this daar up and running, so it's still a little dark inside." Dorvo said towards the Asari and the Human that the Major had been speaking with. "Just turn your lamps on, and everything will be fine." The Asari gave some minor details along with some basic instructions.

Having done that, the trio of Resistance soldiers immediately began making their way through the cool cave, starting on their minor adventure of leading the Nexus group to their destination.

"..... I know that Major has spoken to you over the vidcon about the pod, but... do either of you have a clue as to what it could be?.. Is it possible that it could be something you could share with my people? A couple of our historians have already shown interest into wanting to know about it." Soleye eventually said towards the Asari and the Human, wanting to know if they had any thoughts on what it could be.

Dr. D'yseria could barely contain her excitement as the group was escorted towards the belly of the caverns. She was practically shaking her data pad with anticipation by the time the Resistance squad had greeted them. Eagerly Dr.D'yseria followed the group, and nodded quietly at the Angara with bright green skin.

"Thank you for your cooperation, Dr.Che and I will just need to take a few scans before we can call in the recovery team. Oh yes-- and it's nice to meet you all, I'm Doctor Jinmera D'yseria and this is my colleague Doctor Ruby Che."

Ruby nodded respectfully towards the group and fell in line as they trekked their way back. The question the female Angara posed did seem to catch her attention, and chimed in before Dr.D'yseria could.

"--As of now, we don't have a clue. This equipment was not brought by the Initiative, and according to its timeline, it would be too primitive to reach these recesses of space... I don't think it's anything more then a hunk of rusted metal." Dr. Che shrugged, but continued at a languid pace behind the group.

"Oh don't mind her-- She just doesn't want to get anyone's hopes up. --But if it is a major discovery, by all means, it would naturally be apart of Angara history being that's it been resting here for so long."

As they talked and speculated on what the pod could be, they finally reached a hollowed out portion of cave, where ice had been carved away at. The sounds of dripping water rolling down from stalagmites echoed through the chamber. There was obvious signs that this place had been intended to grow food, but with the discovery of the shuttle, all construction had been put on hold.

"Look! Che!" The asari called out to the blonde, and pointed sharply at one of the walls. There, with a sheet of thick ice still wrapped around its base; sat a bulky, geometrical shape. "It doesn't look run down to me..." The asari doctor said with a bit of awe bleeding into her tone. In fact their was light emitting from the inside. Though, it was too bright to see what was on the other side of the tiny view port on the front.

"Remarkable!" The asari set her data pad down and began to scan. Meanwhile Dr.Che went to examine the labeling on it's side.

"Yup-- it says, ECHIDNA... I've never heard that name before--- yet it seems somewhat familiar." Dr. Che began muttering to herself trying to place the origin of the name but before she could; something seemed to excite the Asari more then before.

"Absolutely astonishing!" She chimed and closely watched the scanners fluctuate.

"What is it?" Dr.Che called over. "See anything inside?"

"I can't---" The asari said curtly. "There's some kind of shielding that runs through the entire hull.... it carries the same energy as a biotic shield-- the source of power is inside...." Her voice trailed off as the mystery grew.

"You mean this thing has an internal power source that's been on this whole time?" Che was finally starting to sound intrigued. "But how?"

"I don't know--- Maybe it's connected to whatever is inside." The asari shrugged and then showed the readings to the human scientist who's brows furrowed in confusion. How was any of this even possible?

"Well we need to know what's inside. Let's see if there's anyway to deactivate the power from the exterior...." Che's tone became level as she circled around the pod, looking for any control pads that could be used to disengage shielding. The human discovered a button hidden away on the side of it, and exchanged a wary glance with her colleague.

"Should I press it?" She asked, and the asari-- though nervous-- was too enthralled by the mystery to walk away now.

"Please step back--" The asari turned to the group of resistance Angara and began ushering them back in case the button activated something they weren't expecting.

"Alright--- here we go..." The human announced and then jabbed the switch. It took a little effort from being frozen for so long, but with the right amount of pressure, the button finally slid in.

A moment later the antique pod began to rumble, and Che scrambled away in hurry but her eyes stayed glued onto the machine. Anticipating some kind of door to open, or the shielding to shut off at least, they watched it closely. Until, finally-- the rumbling stopped, and a cloud of chilled gas wafted between the cracks of the pod as it abruptly cracked open; as if releasing pressure. It paused for a moment, allowing the pressurization to stable out, and then finally-- the four walls of the pod came down, like splitting a banana. The heavy metal crushed its way through the remaining ice. It bent the walls into the ground, as the shelter now morphed it to what looked like a display rack, and at its center, hoisted into what looked like a nightmare harness; was a human. Wires, cables, and tubes all wove in and out of the limp and lifeless body. Most connections seemed to by stuck directly down the being's spine. While another large cable was harshly jutting from down inside the human's throat out through their mouth. Its body was suspended in air by what looked like a crane arm, and from the arm; many wires ran down the length of it, and directly into the base of the person's neck, converging into one giant cable.

Che gasped and reeled back, and D'yseria stood stunned. Before either scientist could react. The crane arm dropped the human like it was worthless trash. Allowing the suspended being to violently land on the cave floor with a loud thud. Then slowly but surely, as if each wire was alive of its own accord; they began to detach from the human's body. Unweaving themselves from holes that had been notched beneath the being's ribs and along its spine. The two largest wires unhooked last. One snaking out from the being's throat; removing a good yard or more of what seemed like a feeding tube from the being's stomach. While the larger spinal connection at her neck let out an unseemly whirling noise as it undrilled it's needle like up link and separated from the lifeless body.

Che and D'yseria, completely shocked-- stood there for a minute, registering what had just happened. They stared between each other before their senses came back, and they rushed the subject sprawled onto the ground. It was obviously a human female, but she was covered in a viscous goo, and her hair was nearly completely gone. She wasn't stirring, and more alarmingly she was not breathing. "Turn her over!" Che shouted in urgency and Jinmera rushed to help her. They positioned her on her back to better examine her, but immediately stopped when the girl's eyes fluttered open and they were met with sharp and ragged breathing.

"Its okay! Your alright!" The human scientist tried to assure the woman from the tank, but her words didn't seem to get through. Instead, the unknown woman's eyes rolled back into her head, and her body began to shake violently.

"Oh no! She's having a seizure! We need medical evac! Now!" Che shouted, and the asari complied. The blue-skinned female rushed to her feet, and began hailing medical evacuation while returning back outside to flag the ship down.

Once Dr. Che had discovered a button that was hidden away from plain sight, that mysterious pod begun humming something foul. Not only that, but the pod was gradually beginning to crack ajar. It had been quite unsettling to Dorvo, who had immediately motioned his hand back towards his rifle that had been resting on his back. He was still a little disturbed that some human artifact was found on Voeld, and the fact that the Nexus doctors decided to open it right then and there? It made him much more tense.

Soleye, on the other hand, had been ogling in awe at the mechanics of the mysterious machine as it activated. This was just something that she enjoyed; She enjoyed learning about extraterrestrial cultures, artifacts, people-- the way of life for many aliens. The species that arrived on the Nexus were new to all of the Angara, new to her..

"Whooa.. That is just.. marvelous.." Soleye spoke lowly underneath her breath, her expression drowned in wonder and her broad eyes scanning restlessly over the pod. However, the very moment she had the urge to get closer to the capsule, it merely opened even wider before them. And before anything could be said amongst the Resistance soldiers, the pod revealed exactly what had been inside.

Suspended there in the air was the body of a.. human? This human was connected to several tubes and wires-- which didn't look particularly comfortable. Not to mention, it was actually a difficult and bizarre thing to witness? Was that person.. dead? They didn't look decayed or anything of the sort, but it just had been much too long without nourishment-- without anything.

The three Angara exchanged a few baffled looks amongst each other, not really sure what to make of what they were witnessing.

Although, their attention was soon called back to the pod at the sound of a thud hitting the ground of the cave. Eventually, the human and asari doctors rushed to examine the human. And against the Angara's better judgement, ...that human wasn't dead at all... and a sharp inhalation surely proved that. But, how?! That's just surely impossible, right? Or at least, it would have been thought to be impossible.

While the doctors had been assisting the strange person, the human had begun to convulse on the cold ground of the cave. Of course, it had gave the three Angara quite a shock-- watching this person who had been mounted and wired up in a pod, who had appeared to be lifeless just suddenly begin to spaz uncontrollably.

Collectively as a group, the Angara stepped a few feet back to give the medical team some room to perform. Soleye, however, definitely wanted to be more "hands-on" with everything that was going on. Not only that, but she wanted to take another look inside of the pod-- and maybe even try to interview that person if the opportunity ever arose to do so.

"--! Is there anything that I can do to help?! We've all been trained for basic me--" Soleye was about to inform, only for her words to be halted in her tracks.

"-- Maybe... we should just not be in the way, Soleye.." Ahneh, the Angara with the dark skintone uttered out, his eyes fixated on his eager squadmate.

"Medical transport won't be here for another four minutes, Che!" The asari doctor called into the cave as she came racing back to inform her. Che cursed under her breath, but continued to concentrate on controlling the spasms. Luckily they seemed to be calming, and the female's violent jittering became shallow pulses.

"She's coming out of it-- We need a blanket, or a tarp--- or anything to cover her --Please!" Dr. Che cast a desperate gaze over to the group of Angara escorts whose expressions were a mix of disturbed shock, and apprehension. "Dr. D'yseria, I need you to help me. Hold her still--" The asari jogged around the corner and joined her colleague once more. She did she best to hold the female's body still as the after shocks ran their course.

Meanwhile, Dr.Che retrieved a small flash light from her pocket, and checked the dilation of the being's eyes. Luckily, the unknown female seemed to still be alive; though going into shock. Her body temperature was going to drop fast.

"Damn it-- She's gonna freeze..." Che growled, looking over the female's shocking form. "Blanket please!"

The unknown woman was nearly stark naked. The only thing that kept a small shred of her dignity together were thin strips of a medical grade fabric woven around her breasts, hips and thighs. But with the strange goo lightly coating her, it almost camouflaged against her pale skin. The unknown woman had dark eyes, and now Che could see her hair was very short and was slathered against her head by the viscous substance.

"What is all this?" The asari chimed in calling Che's attention away. She was focused on the inlets burrowed through her skin right beneath her ribs. There was a hole drilled near her collar bone as well, and several similar inlets surgically implanted on either sides of her knees.

"I have---" Che was about to say she was unaware, but after replaying the macabre scene in her head and estimating how old the pod was; she could only assume one thing. "--They modified her so she'd survive the trip..."

The asari's speckled eyes trailed up to the woman's face as if pondering another piece of the mystery. "Who is she? Why would some one go through all this trouble.... and pain---?" Jinmera looked down at the figure below her.

Whilst Dorvo and Ahneh remained some few yards away from all of the spontaneous activity, Soleye only was becoming more and more fascinated. Not that seeing someone suffer like this was a great thing to witness, but the concept of someone traveling along the stars from another galaxy was merely breath-taking. Although, the very second that Dr. Che called out to them in a frantic for some assistance, Soleye immediately snapped out of her captivated trance and almost immediately pivoted around to look at her fellow soldiers.

"Quick! We need to give them something-- anything to help!--" The female angara exclaimed, looking back and forth between the two males.

It was pretty obvious that Soleye wasn't going to give any of this up, and it would be looked down upon if they were nothing but bystanders while this unfortunate soul was having medical issues. They might not be able to do much, but sparing the doctors and their mysterious.. patient some kind of warmth was the least they could do.

In the direction from which they came, there were a few tents set up near some lamps. With the daar being fixed to get back up and running, some of the workers had set up a few tents to keep inside of the cave so they could have "near-comfortable" breaks; There was bound to be something inside of them that the doctors could use.

The three Resistance soldiers hurried on over to where a couple of the tents were set up, hoping to find something that could serve as some warmth. Searching through the tents, there were basic survival things inside such as purified water and some food paste.

In moments of their sudden search, Ahneh actually found a little sheet that was neatly folded inside one of the tents. He simply snatched the blanket up from the far side of the tent with his gloved hand. Hopefully, the person who the blanket belonged to wouldn't miss it that much.

"I've found something-- Let's go back over to where they need us--" Ahneh said just loud enough for Dorvo and Soleye to hear him. Toting the sheet back over to where the doctors were, the angara unfolded the sheet and feathered it out over the person. With that being done, Ahneh slowly backed away from the goo-covered person and the doctors yet again. By this time, Soleye and Dorvo made their way back over to where they had been before, their sights completely focused on what was happening before them.
