Poetry An Ode to a Trash Lizard (From the Mind of a Character Who isn't even on this Site)

Gaius Danius Griinia

Apparently Infamous
Blood and Gunsmoke
The scent filled my waking moments for so long
Day after Day, My Humanity almost gone

Yet a chance encounter, brought about by a simple trip
Led me to you
Sun and Moon Eclipsed

Mustard Smell and Hollow Blue Eyes
You were lost in this world, much like I

We found each other
The pain subsided
My days were bright, my nights exciting

The world smelled of flowers
Color returned to my life
I was no longer alone, together with you in strife

You wallow in trash
You scurry around our home
Your presence is a part of me, even when on my own

A cluster of eggs was a blessing to me
Our little lizards who made water noises just made you scream

They rode atop your back, safe in your embrace
Knowing you would protect them and bear all the weight

The little ones grew strong with our love, we watched them have fun
I still blame myself for how we lost one
The shame I feel is immense and suffocating
Especially when you nudged her body, expecting... waiting

You grew along with our family, friends and allies
The second cluster was born, you joined in with their cries

Our past was cold and our present leaves me flustered
The future is unknowable but I took knowledge in your scent of mustard
