Biography : Born on the Iron Islands Dagon was a robust lad ever from the start. He was a handful for his father at even a very young age. He rarely stayed in the castle, indead preferring to leave Pyke to converse with sailors and raiders and learn how to tie a line or open a sail rather than pay any attention to books. The time of the free Ironborn were past and his father felt books and learning would help his son navigate the tangled waters that the ironborn sailed politically then any skill as arms or even sailing. Perhaps he was right but Dagon never even considered it. When he was 8 years old his father finally caved and allowed him to take an apprenticeship on an ironborn ship and Dagon never looked back. He spent the rest of his early life learning how to sail, how to fight, how to sing the songs of the drowned god and great victories in the halls were Ironborn drank. Even from a young age he had a sense of charisma that drew people to him. He could always convince even hardened ironborn for one more lesson, one more story, one more journey around the rocks that had been his home. He got all those things and by the time he had grown to a young man he could outfight even hardened men, sail the most treacherous waters, and sing the songs better than most in the isles. Soon after however his father would pass suddenly, leaving the young lord the leader of the entire nation.

Where other lords due to lack of experience would have tried to ease into the roll or tried to seek council Dagon decided to gain the loyalty of his people the old fashioned way. Through conflict. Declaring he was bored of following the once spoken rule to not raid in Westeros and with a single order gathered the captains and placed them under command of his younger brother, a much more quiet and studious lad though a capable warrior in his own right who would serve as the strategist for most of the war. Even among the Ironborn who like Dagon there was doubt to how appointing too young leaders would be able to properly combat the West but the first battle of Lannisport his brother proposed an idea worthy of a tale by sailing through a storm, defying the storm god to catch the Reynes and Lannisters off guard and they smashed their fleet before they could even leave harbor and put the entire city to the torch, slaughtering the garrison and stealing its massive portions of wealth before retreating to the Iron Islands. But he was far from done, hardly had they unloaded their supplies and repair did the iron fleet set out again while the west scrambled to ready themselves, fortifying coastal cities. This time they split, Dagon attacking the Banefort which held for some time refusing to come out and do battle till Dagon ordered his men to burn the surrounding villages till they came out, which caused them to poor out of the gates to protect their land. In open battle Dagon proved his worth, leading the charge to smash the Banefort forces and even slew the lord of the castle personally before sending word to his brother of his victory.

Within days he got news that his brother had stormed Fair isle and took it a blaze of glory he was not to be outdone and advanced out of Banefort with half his forces and went like a knife through the countryside, raping and murdering his way and drawing attention off the Banefort. If they had been able to focus their attention they could have likely caught him but his brother taking Fair Isle threatened Castamere itself, making them cautious since his brother had most of the fleet and Dagon crushed the lord of Ashmarks forces when he managed to lead him into an ambush, using the mountainous terrain against the very inhabitants of the land to neutralize their cavalry and unable to utilize their proper formating due to the ambush being in mountainous territory he managed to send them fleeing to the hills, thinking there were more then there were but not after losing hundreds to Dagons assault. Taking half his forces from the Banefort and his remaining ones he took Nunns deep, coming over land and sustaining themselves on local villages and took the mine without great issue, forcing a great number of people to mine gold to be taken by support ships back to Pyke for close to a year. He would then join hands with his brother and take the Crag in an attack from the sea, and while he didn't climb the wall he was one of the first through the gate. After the Crag was taken while his brother stayed in the castle, styling the overall defense of the region Dagon went out and raided, destroying villages and taking on unaligned and isolated men of the west. He fought the Lord of Ashmark again in an indecisive battle that left Dagon wounded and out of the war for 3 months. He decided to take the young daughter of the Westerlings as a salt wife as he recovered, infuriating the lord and surviving hostages to no end.

Once he was recovered and his brother left to retake Fair Isle he began a slow push with his forces towards Castamere. Now battles were much less clear and it was hard to tell when one began and another ended. The greater numbers of the West wore them down and now they used the terrain against him as he had once to the lord of Ashmark and they knew it far better. Within a month he lost the Crag, but not before tossing the lord off the tower when he claimed he would pay for his crimes against his family. Taking his salt wife he abandoned the Crag and rather then retreat back to Banefort which he knew he couldn't hold he did the unexpected and told his men to abandon that fort as well and march to Nunns Deep and sail the boats north of it and collect the gold they had mined there. It took the west long enough to realize the roose for Dagon with men on his heels to take his remaining soldiers and the supplies they had taken aboard and once on the sea the Reynes had no way to pursue his return to the Iron Islands. Declaring their raid a massive success and a powerful victory. It cemented Dagon as nearly a living legend among the Ironborn, being the only leader in living memory to successfully raid the Greenlanders, a reputation which only rose when the king chose not to respond.

Soon songs were sung about those battles throughout the Iron Islands and him and his brother were revered throughout the isles, though soon after his brother left the isles for parts unknown. The wealth they had gained from the much richer west and selling hostages back to their families put the iron islands into a moment of prosperity. The islands got a taste of the old way once again and raids on essos and some even small individual raiders against the green landers spiked and there was even a greater interest to build more ships, to train more warriors, to grow their wealth and power as many across the isles believed that Dagon would lead his people back to what they lost. Dagon himself after about 6 months found himself growing bored once again and went to go raid in Essos. Sometime while there he fought a pirate named Daarys who had grown powerful in the region and crushed his fleet but let then man go, forming a lasting friendship with the man. On his return to Westeros he stopped in Kingslanding and met the royal family for the first time since he had become lord. He immediately grew to dislike the king but grew fond of the young children of his, ever curious to his adventures and stories and the boy learning how to fight. He wouldn't stay long but over the next 8 years this cycle would continue, him going to essos in a coming and going pattern, returning to the isles at least once a year to keep track of several projects, including a new ship and a rebuilt and expanded iron fleet, using the gold to trade for wood to make such a thing possible.

However within the last two years the situation changed slightly, Vaella, now a beautiful girl of 16 was married to a Reyne and he was welcomes less and less in the capital. Spending more time at home within the following two years he heard disturbing rumors of the court, which grew far worse when he heard of the death of the start girl, right on the backs of what was supposed to be a unifying marriage. Her father rode south only to die of sickness days later, turning suspicion to iron certainty in his mind and hatred to thoughts of revolt. He cared little for the Starks other than wanting to fight their lord but if the king was willing to kill a woman sent down to marry him for peace and murder her father meer weeks later then what else would he be willing to do. Yet the return of his brother prevented him from doing this immediately as well as the rebellion of the north. Calling his brother to him he decided to make a plan. Leading the Ironborn came to him in this dark hour and with a king which he lacked any confidence in now was the time to leave the corrupted kingdom that it had become under his rule. He had given the ironborn a taste of the old way with the war on the west, no he meant to give them more than a taste. And Westeros would tremble to every swing of his axe in the days to come.

Other :
Naturally as Iron Born he is an excellent sailor and fighter but after years of only learning raiding and pack wolf tactics he has little skill in large scale battles or diplomatic wheeling and dealing, leaving that role to his advisors. Dagon is one of the most beloved rulers of the Ironborn in recent memory, this gives his troops extra motivation to follow him and rarely is he used to having a decision questioned despite his somewhat erratic nature except for his brother. Has a group of 15 ships, the main part of the iron fleet who survived with him throughout all the battles of the war. They now form a close knit raiding group known as likely the most powerful group of killers on the isles, and are fanatically loyal to their leader Dagon.
