Night Raid won the war, the Empire was essentially conquered and peace reigned as a new more competent Emperor was put into place. Life was good for quite some time, five years in-fact. The Empire regained its standings, cities were rebuilt, and the land prospered once more. Night Raid was employed as the Empires secret ops of sorts, dealing without outside threats when need be and defending the Empire in the shadows. The Guards remained as the more public defense, both being hailed by the citizens now that the corruption was uprooted. Everything seemed entirely peaceful, not even neighboring kingdoms threatened them any longer.

Though…the peace was short lived. On the eve of the sixth year of the Empire’s rebuilding it happened. Danger beasts by the hundreds, even thousands. Some genetically modified beyond anything anyone’s ever seen before while the rest merely swarmed the countryside. The Empire fought back, as did Night Raid. Both sides suffered casualties and in the end were forced back. No longer could they properly defend their land, citizens by the thousands dying in a mere month as the struggle continued.

Finally the Empire managed to set up a stronghold in the Capital capable of defending them from the monsters, for how long no one knew. Scouting parties are sent out daily to quell the seemingly unlimited amount of monsters, some returned, some didn’t. It was dangerous to walk out of the Capital, though luckily they weren’t the only ones that managed to survive. Similar regions were set up, some owned by the capital, others by the neighboring kingdoms. The other kingdoms were lucky, they were warned and casualties kept to a minimum. Able to repel the beasts life continued mostly as normal for them.

Another two months into the incursion a group revealed themselves, loyalists to the old Emperor brought together with an anarchic group aiming for destruction. They had been convinced that what Night Raid did was a fluke, it didn’t benefit the Empire whatsoever. Things would eventually devolve worse than they were, worst of all they actually believed the old Emperor to be a good ruler. Whether this is due to brain wash by the group that spawned the Danger Beasts, the Black Claw, or they are simply as psychotic as the group themselves is unclear. What is clear is the promise of destroying anything and everything on the continent, starting over with a kingdom of their own, while also proving their beliefs of Night Raid being inferior to be true.

Tensions run higher than ever now thanks to this revelation, Night Raid and the Guards already didn’t fully agree with each other; The Guards being more of a Lawful Good type and Night Raid sticking to their more Chaotic Lawful stature. For the most part the animosity is silent, certain members of each group hating the other or even foolishly blaming them for the problem at hand. One thing is for certain however, if full on infighting breaks out all is lost and the Black Claw will get an effortless victory. Will the Empire burn, or will old enemies realize they must fully put their differences aside once and for all for the greater good of their home?

@Monday, 7:00 AM
Another, as much as possible, peaceful day in the Capital. The sun was shining brightly in the sky overhead a cloudless sky, rays peeking through cracks in awnings and into the various windows of homes. Most homes were makeshift and tightly packed together due to evacuation to the Capital, though surprisingly there was still enough space for everyone to get things done properly. Luckily there was also an underground portion of the city so there was more space than met the eye. If it weren't for the Danger Beasts having to be driven back almost daily life would almost be perfect. Almost...more than a few didn't like the cramped conditions but it was either live like this or become somethings next meal.

In the early hours of the morning most people, well, most sane people, would just now be waking up as light beamed into their rooms. For now it seemed to be the normal status quo for both Night Raid and the Guards. Wake up, get dressed, get food, and go over any kind of battle plans for the day. So far they were actually making nice progress on slowly driving the beasts away, or at the very least keeping their populations down so they didn't overrun the Capital. Contact had been made both with the western and northern kingdoms, warning them of the dangers to come. With any luck soon trade routes would somehow be set up, workers already toiling away in the already expansive underground of the Capital to dig said routes.

Something had to be done or they would all starve to death before it was even possible to think about winning this war. Nonetheless, it seemed an average day as everyone milled about their morning activities.

Crane woke up extra early to help prepare dinner for everyone and that included himself. He had everything prepared and tasting delicious around 6:30. He served himself a plate and ate in quiet comfort. He always enjoyed getting up extra early, because it allowed him to eat by himself in peace. Once he was done with his meal, he went to his room to change and grab his equipment. He tech. Wasn’t as fancy or extravagant as many of the guards or night raid. He liked practicality and simplistic equipment. He also made an effort to bring his Teigu, even though he wasn’t the biggest fan of them. He walked out of the base and began his patrol duty. So far it was turning out to be a peaceful morning, he just hoped nothing happened to change that. Crane was happy to report that one hour into the patrol and he had experienced no trouble. Right not he was waiting by an empty area, he was told they were going to try and push some of the danger beast back and gain some ground. So he simply sat waiting for his backup.
