Age of Dragons

Naxtaroth

The Raven
When a rift in the void of time and space itself creates a hole between dimensions, dragons are pulled through to the human world. Can Earth handle the might of these fearsome beasts?

Jordan was walking around one day. Outside around the town, joyful for his free time. His father had recently locked him out of the house with no key and he'd been forced to sleep outside for the past week, luckily he had some spending money so he didn't go hungry. He was supposed to be home by five o' clock, that's when his father got back. So he spent the day lazily in the sun, he didn't care, it was better than him being physically abused.

Five came and he was ready to face the facts, but this time his father wasn't so eager. Dilent had a difficult day, all the equipment was jammed, and communications were down. However, soon he took it out on his son.

Jordan finally decided he wasn't gonna just let him, he fought back, rather weakly comparatively, finally he escaped his father's wrath and ran outside full sprint, his right ear bleeding.

Dante walked out a set of doors, the bustle of a Los Angeles mall all around him. His shift at work had been pretty slow today since it was a Tuesday. Also, the cash registers and computers had all been messing up making it almost impossible to ring people up. There were even times that the store's radio skipped or shut off randomly. He checked his phone. 5PM. His plans to meet Thorne were at 7, he had just enough time to get home and get ready. He got in his somewhat beat-up, black 69' Camaro SS and headed out of the city. He lived in a smaller town about an hour east of LA.

He checked the time again. A little after 6. His screen glitched and he freaked out, wondering why it had acted up. It fixed itself and he let out a sigh of relief. Looking up from his phone, he had to slam on his brakes to avoid running a stop sign. Where was his mind today? He was usually so alert when behind the wheel. A boy whom Dante guessed was about 12 suddenly ran across the street. He was glad he had stopped as quickly as he did, because the boy seemed to be occupied with whatever he was running from. Dante saw no one chasing the boy and drove on, making a point to be more careful.

When he got to his apartment, he changed into a pair of newer black Chucks, a pair of plain black skinny jeans, and a purple and black striped button-up. He went into the bathroom and re-straightened his hair before giving Thorne a call. She arrived around 6:50 and they headed out. Still shaken up about almost hitting the boy, Dante was tense and excessively alert as he drove back into LA.

Jordan was too busy paying attention to himself to notice the car that nearly hit him, and when he did he couldn't do anything but stand there thinking about his luck. He blinked a few times when it missed him and continued running, his dad's car was not far behind. He'd heard it out the driveway. Jordan finally got caught however and the chase resulted in another beating. Nothing he could do.

Dante and Thorne sat in the theater, a big bowl of overly buttered popcorn sitting between them. This movie theater had the armrests that you could put up and down. The two had the armrest up and were cuddled closely together. The lights dimmed and the previews started. Dante looked at Thorne and smiled, placing a soft kiss on her forehead. As he looked back towards the screen, the image flickered and then everything went black. The lights in the floors that designated the walkway were out, there was no movie playing on the screen, the overhead lights were completely off, and even the Exit signs were not illuminated. Dante pulled out his cell phone, but it started glitching out again. This time, however, it didn't stop. It continued to glitch out until it finally went black and wouldn't turn back on.

Dante, Thorne, and other moviegoers hurriedly left the theater only to find that the entire building's power was out. Once outside the building, Dante and Thorne looked down the street to see that no streetlights were on, none of the buildings had lights, and the few cars that were still in power were messing up. As he approached his car and pushed the button to unlock it, he realized his car was being effected too. Great. The fastest form of transportation was out of service and he lived an hour away. He gave Thorne and apologetic look and tried to figure out what to do. There was no power anywhere, every vehicles' electrical systems were screwing up, and it was a long walk home. He hoped he could find a bicycle rental stand open this late or a couple bikes they could just take. Not like the cops would be able to follow them far and there would be no cameras working to catch the crime.

As Jordan finally got up after the beating, he noticed that the power was out, everything was out. He rushed to the window where it was darkening outside to almost pitch black from the clouds that now hovered in the sky. The power was messing up, and then, it went out. Everything, the car, radios, anything, even battery operated equipment. Anything electronic was down.

Dilent commandeered a bike to ride to his work, since he was a known high general, no one would reject. Meanwhile Jordan was left alone in the near pitch-black house, crying, "Why does nothing ever go my way..." He kept repeating it, as he spit out a tooth from his dad's last beating, staring into the darkness.

Dante and Thorne were pedaling furiously down an empty road as the clouds above them blotted out the moon. They weaved in and out of cars that had been abandoned in the road after shutting down. The world was in complete darkness. Then it started. All at once water poured from the sky, drenching the two. They did their best to see in the sudden downpour.

An hour later, they were walking into Dante's house, their clothes drenched. They laughed as they took in each other's appearance and Dante wandered off to his room. He came back out dressed in athletic shorts and a tank top and handed Thorne some pajama pants and a t-shirt. While Thorne changed, he went around lighting some candles. As he passed a window, lightning flashed. Dante stood there, frozen. Lightning didn't scare him, but he thought he had seen something. Another flash of lightning showed nothing. Dante shook his head and walked into the other room, thinking that he must be pretty tired. I mean surely he hadn't seen the silhouette of a dragon with its wings outstretched. Dragons didn't exist.

Jordan sat in the corner and saw a flash of light. He wondered outside as to see what it was, it wasn't normal lightning, there was no thunder following it. Suddenly a big... What was it!? A... No, it couldn't be! It just couldn't. It crashed on the roof, completely destroying the house. It was... A dragon. Jordan had only dreamed of this hapening! Never had he thought to see the day it actually happened, or it ever happen at all! But it did. It happened. Dragons were appearing, out of no where.

The dragon let out a roar of pain, nearly deafening Jordan because of how close he was. He saw that a large support had splintered all into his leg, the rain burned as it hit Jordan. For some reason it was unnatural feeling, it just didn't feel like normal rain. Then this dragon appeared... No... It couldn't be that myth he had heard of in some books, a void storm.

In the void, a distortion crawls out like a hurricane, drying up only after its fuel is lost. This particular distortion is probably what caused the storm, not to Jordan's knowledge, all he knows is he's heard of it.

The dragon roared again, blinking its eyes as it saw the tiny kid gaping in awe.

As the dragon pulled the support out of its leg it spoke, "Sorry, for the damage..." Its wings were beaten by the crash.

The lightning outside had a strange feel to it and Dante quickly rushed to Thorne.

"Something isn't right here."

"What is it, Dante? You aren't the type to be scared of a bit of thunder."

"It's not the thunder that is freaking me out, it's the strange lighting. Come look at it."

He ushered her to the window and they both looked. Every 3 or 4 flashes, a silhouette of a dragon would appear and then be gone as quicly as it had shown. After they'd watched a minute he turned to her.

"Now do you see? There is no logical excuse for this"

"It's, uh, probably just an, uh.... I got nothing."

They went back into the other room, trying to ignore all these strange things. Power outages everywhere, no vehicles working, no electronic devices working period, the giant storm, and the strange silhouettes. What was happening? Sometime they fell asleep, and when they woke, it was still dark outside. It had stopped raining, but still nothing was working. The sky was overcast with dark, ominous clouds and the lightning still persisted. Dante's phone worked long enough to tell him it was 12:34PM and then immediately glitched out. He stepped outside and looked up at the sky. No unusual silhouettes at the moment, but he wasn't convinced. As he turned to go back inside, a glint of purple caught his eye. There, in the bush beside his house, was a large purple orb about 2 feet in diameter that appeared to have an emblem of a cobra on it.

It spoke! He couldn't believe it. These were dragons, through and through, "It's uh, alright, uhm, what are you doing here?"

"No, what are you doing here?" He blinked again. Neither of them could believe this was happening!

Something crashed into a house several blocks down, he could hear the wood break from here. Then something fell from the sky and hit him on the head, he was out.

Jordan awoke in the next day under an awning, someone else's house but somewhere dry and out of the rain, with the, what looked like, an egg. It was black, and round and about up to his ankles when laid on its side. It was a huge egg, he decided to stay here while the rain poured, as it had stopped and started again apparently.

As he went back inside, the rain picked up again. Great. He set the orb down in front of his TV and went to get some food. He figured he'd start in the fridge/freezer so the stuff wouldn't go bad while the power was out. About an hour later, Thorne woke up and came into the kitchen.

"Why is there a strange purple thing in your living room?"

"Oh i found it outside, it must have appeared during the storm. I figured it might be valuable."

"You found a large, smooth, purple rock with a cobra emblem on it and decided to just bring it inside? I never will understand your thinking."

Meanwhile Jordan's Father Dilent, was on his way to determine the course of the army's reaction to these, 'dragons,' and decided to kill them. They're a blight, destroying people's houses, appearing out of nowhere, causing harm, everything about them was bad to him. As the only appointed high general as of now, in this continent, he decides the course of action. The action, kill. Kill them all.
Jordan silently fell asleep on that porch he was laid on, but was awoken the next day, apparently he had been out for more then a day! the rain and clouds were cleared, and the electronics then slowly started to come back to working. Cars starting, cell phones ringing, all that, and it only took three days, according to the clock that was in the other room. He saw all the destruction that was done, and all the damage. No one was home at the house he was at, and all.

Next thing Jordan noticed is the dragons. Everywhere it seemed, it was hard to miss. How the hell did they get here? Why the hell are they here?

Last thing he noticed was the egg, it was hatching. a small tooth pertruded the shell...

Dante and Thorne waited it out in the house. They ate whatever food was in the house. The purple orb sat in the living room, unmoving, unchanging. They awoke on the fourth morning after the storm had started to find sunlight shining through the window. Dante scrambled up from the couch, carefully laying Thorne down and looked out the window. He was not prepared for the sight he saw next. A flash of scales whipped past the window, startling him and sending him backwards, scrambling for something to grab onto. He slowly crept to the window, wondering where whatever had flown past had gone. His jaw dropped in awe as he took it in. There were dragons, real life dragons, flying in the air, walking around, and snoozing. There were a few houses in the neighborhood that had been destroyed and he was glad that his had not been one of them. He jumped as he heard a noise from the other room.

"DANTE! GET YOUR A** IN HERE! YOUR F****** PURPLE THING IS CRACKING! THERE'S A GOD D*** CLAW COMING OUT OF IT!"

Dante rushed into Thorne and saw she was huddled against the couch, a look of surprise, awe, and fear on her face. He turned his attention to the purple orb and sure enough there was a giant crack in it. There were sharp things protruding from one side that slowly extended into what appeared to be a claw. The claw grabbed at the purple orb and cracked it further. The whole top half of the orb disconnected with the bottom and started rising. As the distance between the two halves grew greater, the details of what was inside came clearer. This wasn't an orb. It was a dragon's egg. Dante stared into the glow of a pair of purple eyes. The eyes were staring back at him.

Jordan was amazed at what came out, a dark dragon, dark black, with glowing yellow eyes, with a streak of yellow down his back. Jordan backed up only to find that he would be coming closer, soon, Jordan would inch towards it curious.

"You gonna do something or just stand there?" This startled Drake, the dragon had spoken! Wait, of course they could speak, they're dragons. But wait, it just hatched?

"Well, uhm, I don't know. Honestly. Wh-why are you here?"

"Where else am I suppose to be? I live here don't I?" The small dragon, only about 3 ft tall, was confused, "But, you don't look like my dad?"

"Not usually, and uh, I'm not? I don't know what to say? I mean, you're a baby, you shouldn't be talking."

"And you're a human, you shouldn't be here." Their conversation went on and on and they decided to stick together in the end, to find out what this whole mess was about.
