Read more about this role play...

Okay so there's obviously a lot of flexibility with this RP. You can essentially be any type of magical creature you want or you can be completely human, it's up to you. Your character MUST be a creature of intelligence however (so no dragons, griffons, etc.). Images are encouraged but not necessary - real or anime or description, whatever works best for you.

**NOTE: There are roles such as members of the royal family in the human cities, faerie king/queen, Dwarven king, lords of provinces, etc that are up for grabs. Message me if you're interested, these roles are in a first-come, first-serve basis, so once they're taken, that's it!

You're allowed to have as many characters as you like so long as they are approved by me. Romance is encouraged, and with a roleplay such as this it's easy to get separated from the plot or have your character wander around. Try to keep your character interacting closely with the other characters and not off in some other part of Laurelin just doing their own thing. Also, somewhere in the character sheet please include your characters' views on industrialization (do they like it, hate it, is it all they've ever known or do they prefer the forests and nature?).

Name: Tarryn Gaiana

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Species: Human

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Personality: She's a bit of a free spirit and down to earth. She doesn't like staying in one place at one time and feels the need to often leave places after a bit of time, however, her stay in the kingdom's capitol has been the longest yet. She doesn't worry about the future or live in the past, and she's very wise and often the voice of reason. She stays calm and grounded when everyone else is nervous. Tarryn's the person you go to for advice or when you need help. She's a warm person who is always welcome to meeting new people and doesn't judge others. Everyone is equal in her eyes. However, she's a hard person to get close to. Tarryn is a wanderer by nature, she doesn't like feeling trapped be it in her lifestyle or her personal relationships. Because she's always moving around, there are very few people with whom she is genuinely close to and still in contact with which can get lonely at times, but Tarryn has always been a social and adventurous person so even though her relationships with many people don't go very deep, Tarryn is happy. She'll never back down from a challenge and her easy-going nature is almost contagious. She's also not one to take sides on any issues, something that garners both respect and frustration from people, but it's likely this impartial quality in her that makes her so rational. It's for this reason that Tarryn's view on the industrialization are neither negative nor positive. She loves the inventions that have come as a result of this new world and as someone who is an inventor and works with machines, she appreciates it. However, being from such a small town and traveling so often, Tarryn sees the cost that this new world has brought upon many. When asked about her views, she simply replies "It's all about balance."

Background: Tarryn grew up in a small town in the countryside with two sisters. Her mother was the sole caretaker of the house and family and she was a merchant by trade. Tarryn began tinkering with some of the junk parts and machinery people would trade with her mother (or that she would find in a dumpster) and became quite skillful with machinery. By the time she was sixteen, Tarryn's reputation grew around her area that there was nothing she couldn't fix. Her mechanic skills were greatly appreciated by the people who lived in the countryside and didn't necessarily have a mechanic from Napier to fix everything for them. By the age of seventeen, Tarryn began traveling on her own to several cities among the kingdom. She became a pilot in Monserrat and fell in love with flying. She does it whenever she can now and would sometimes do airshows in towns and cities for the extra cash. At the age of twenty-one, Tarryn was offered a position in Napier as a mechanic and pilot for the Royal Military. Most of the time she's simply fixing machinery and tinkering in her shop, but on occasion, she gets to fly. She's been in Napier for about a year now and plans to stay indefinitely.

Name: Morcant DeGuerre

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Sexuality: Bisexual

Personality: Morcant is generally a playful, happy, slightly pompous guy with a small streak of sadism, which he blames on his mother. He considers himself to be cursed with an unfortunately depressing name, which he also blames on his mother, and an unfortunately tragic childhood, which, again, he blames on his mother. He also likes to blame his mother for things.

Morcant heartily embraces industrialization, mostly because of the invention of running water, running heated water (he could finally fill his daily quota of hot baths without overusing his magic), but that’s not to say he doesn’t appreciate the other various gadgets people seemed to have popped out. He realizes that one day technology will reach the point where magic becomes obsolete, but he figures he’ll be dead by then so he decided not to worry about it.

Background: Morcant came from a line of powerful and bitchy sorceresses. His mother was… somewhat unhappy, to put it lightly, when she bore a son instead of a daughter, a son with magical potential at that. She spent the first seven years of his life mostly ignoring him and sleeping around trying to get a daughter, but that didn’t work out so well, so eventually she gave up, and on Morcant’s seventh birthday, or at least she was somewhat sure it was his birthday, she never kept track, she grudgingly took him on as an apprentice and taught him the ways of magic.

As his mother quickly found out, Morcant had an affinity for magic. He mastered spells with ease and grasped magic theory with an intuition that astounded. Soon, he became a topic that she frequently bragged about when she went and met with her fellow bitchy sorceresses. Despite her sudden interest in him, Morcant’s mother still didn’t treat him as her own child, instead regarding him as more of a trophy, something to show off. He didn’t like that.

As soon as he was able too, he cut all ties with his mother and moved to Napier to make his fortune. He would have changed his name too, but his mother’s fellow bitchy sorceresses had spread his name around and who was he to refuse a boost to his reputation. Commissions don’t grow on trees you know (though he thinks with the whole deforestation thing going on, it probably wouldn’t help much even if they did).

Morcant currently lives in Napier, studiously ignoring all the communication his mother sends and taking commissions to pay the bills and everything else that needs to be paid.

Name: Raemari Green

Age:
19

Gender: Female

Species: Human

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Personality: She’s very cocky. There’s nothing she can do wrong, and she always gets what she wants. She avoids low society and turns her nose up at the slums of the town. But don’t be fooled, by day she’s the highest of high society, and by night she’s sneaking into mansions with the intent to kill. She hates industry, its smog and disgusting smell, but thrives in the chaos it causes. She loves pretty things, to dress up, and to leave a pretty, golden rose when she commits to a death. She’s your run of the mill pretty girl, with a sharp tongue and fierce fashion sense.

Background: Raemari grew up with only a father as her mother “died” when she was very young. At least, that was the story she was told growing up. At the age of ten, her mother re-appeared at the door of her father’s mechanical repairs shop with fancy clothes and a way out of the slums. She had remarried and was ridiculously wealthy. Raemari wasn’t given a choice between her father or mother, and was taken away. Two weeks later her father was killed and the police were uncertain who may have done it.

At the age of 12, her mother brought her to a very special school. In this school, society was what mattered more than grades and if your parents had strings to pull, you were brought to the underground lessons taught there. These underground lessons included Classical Assassinations, Theory of Death, Laws of the Order, and High Society Etiquette. At age 14, Raemari committed her first kill and has been rising in rank as an assassin since.

She now lives in the richest part of Napier with her mother. Having graduated from her school, she has become a very important figure among her peers. No one knows of her assassin side except for other assassins. She is one of very few that still preside in the world of the rich.

Name: Labyrinthine "Rin" deBough

Age: 24

Gender: Lady

Species: Half elf half human

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Personality: Rin has always been a bit cynical, her mom taught her how tough the world truly was at a very young age. She takes pride in her Elven heritage, celebrating it while hiding her human half. Due to her cynicism, she has a hard time bonding with people, but once she does, she will literally walk on water for you. She loves animals, as so all Fair Folk, and finds she has a certain bond with woodland creatures due to her childhood. She is a bit of a diva, despite growing up in a forest, and avoids getting dirty whenever possible. Also, as trivia, she is an excellent chef, even with nothing but a few logs and whatever spices she can scrounge up.

Background: She is the child of a royal diplomat and a now shunned elf woman. Her father fooled her mother into believing he would actually abandon his wife and prominent position to live with her mother, but left once signs of pregnancy began. She carries his surname as a constant reminder to never, ever trust humans. She is named after the labyrinth that is life according to her mother, and has come to terms with having such a strange name. Shortly after her birth, the women in the community learned of her true parentage and she and her mother were shunned to live in the forest. They lived there for a time, while her mother grew more and more bitter and withdrawn, ultimately ending in her death. It is unknown if she didn't care enough to stop it or if she truly tried to throw herself off the cliff, but Rin always blamed the humans. She has recently decided to get a new start in a new town, and will do whatever it takes to find her father and avenge her mother's death.

Name: Alex Faye

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Sexuality: Bisexual

Personality: Alex was quiet for most of his life which led to him making not very many friends and for his mother dying nobody loved him other this his friend Black. So he began to trust Black which led to him having a part of him that was completely insane which he ignores so that he does not hurt others but it is easy to make him go to that side and he will not regret the deaths of those that made him go past his boundary.

Background:
Alex grew up as a foster child for his mother had died at giving birth to him and nobody has whereabouts of his father and his mother's relatives would not take him in. He was a quiet child and because of this he didn't make any friends. He was quite imaginative for he had a made a imaginary friend that he called Black. Name: Arlo Larson

Age: 24

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Personality: Arlo is a very glum-looking young man. He sulks a lot and those who don't know him think that he's probably depressed, or that he's panning to hurt someone. To stranger's he is a danger that should be avoided, or just a waste of air. Inside though Arlo is full of life. He's dying to meet someone that he feels can bring out that happy-go-lucky man in him. But with a dreary world comes dreary people, and Arlo tends to fit in with the depressing smog and rubble all too well.

Background: Industrialization is all that Arlo has ever known, having been born in the heart of the city. Though it is natural to him he does long for fresh air and a forrest he can take refuge in once in a while. His mother died when he was only three, due to some lung failure or other (his father never spoke of his mother's death clearly to Arlo), so she is not even a scarce memory to him although he feels that the emptiness inside him has something to do with her. His father tried his hardest to be both parents and fill that emptiness when Arlo was a boy. It worked for some time and he and Arlo grew very close, as his father was a very loving, good man (and quite humerous too). Unfortunately, that bond was unexpectedly broken when Arlo's father was killed in factory accident. The boy was just ten years old at the time. A family friend came a delivered the news to the young boy and offered to take him home to live with him and his family, but the distraught Arlo ran away before he could convince the boy to come with him. Out on the street at just ten years old caused Arlo to steal from people, pick pockets, and rob houses - things he would have never dreamed of doing prior to his sudden homelessness. He fought to stay alive for about eight years that way, until he was old to be useful as a worker at one of the factories. Even with a job in the factory, Arlo stayed homeless and kept working and saving money until one day he could afford to buy a house with what he had saved. He still slaves away at the factory at 24 years old and lives only for the sake of working. Life has become very nearly meaningless to him, but he carries on in the hopes

Name: Agareth Esgalwath

Age: 23

Gender: Female

Species: Witch

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Personality:
Agareth appears to have a gentle demeanour at first, but she is far from caring or friendly. She speaks in a soft-spoken tone, though she elicits harsh words. Agareth often shows an interest in others, wanting to get information out of them, but dares not to get close. Bonds are useless to her, they would only slow her down.

Agareth is a strategist and an analyzer. She thinks carefully before making any harsh decisions. Her greatest desire is power. Thus, she slowly, but surely, makes her way towards it.

Background: Agareth's parents were killed in a witch hunt. Her parents had managed to hide her, which lead her to be taken in by her grandparents who lived in a small village.. The incident left her to be distant to strangers, but she viewed her grandparents as the only people who mattered.

Agareth was taught magic by her grandfather and alchemy by her grandmother. She proved to be very adept and showed a lot of potential. She was often told stories of how her father was a respected warlock, or how her mother was an acute witch. This made Agareth strive to achieve a similar greatness in the area of magic.

By the time Agareth had turned 16, both her grandparents had already been taken by old age. Agareth was free to do as she pleased, so she sold the house and became a traveller in pursuit of bettering herself, thus becoming a lone wolf. She visited many places, gathering knowledge and new skills, and in the cities discovered the industrialization. She was in awe of the beauty of mechanics, and saw new opportunities in alchemy.

Now Agareth mostly deals in alchemy, but still offers magical services as well. She has secured herself a notable name for her vast knowledge in nearly any mystical subject, and her powerful magical skills. She has come to Napier seeking out new business opportunities.

Name: Sayuri

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Species: Vampire

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Personality: Sayuri only talks when it is needed and tries to avoid getting too close to humans. However, if she meets someone who has piqued her interests, she will follow them, even if they dislike it. But, after 2 days, if the person still does not want her around, she'll leave. Sayuri also has trouble opening up to people. She quickly throws off the conversation when it gets to be too uncomfortable and personal for her. On the other hand, if she manages to open up to someone, she won't ever doubt them.

Background: When Sayuri was a baby, her birth parents had left her in an alleyway. Some time later, a human couple found her and adopted her. Little did they know that they had adopted a vampire. Growing up was hard for her. She'd always have an insatiable appetite for blood and yearn for it endlessly. Sometimes, she'd even bite her parents. Not long after, they figured out that she wasn't normal. They tried teaching her to control her hunger, but it was always too unbearable for her.

At the age of 11, her parents kicked her out of their house after many failed attempts. She wandered the cities endlessly for 7 years. Over that time, she got into many street fights with other species. Through these fights, she learned how to control herself and how to fight for herself.

Just letting you all know, I cannot keep my commitment if this RP does not start by Monday. It has been inactive for a few days and I cannot promise that this time next week I won't be occupied with other RPs. I hope the creator hasn't abandoned the thread. It had promise.

Due to the anger management problems the head of the Finch family had, Nancy was sent away to a clock tower to tinker away her life's end. The Finches easily covered up the fact that they had a young miss in the family and went on with their lives. The birth mother was devastated when learning the fact and quickly let go of any type of emotions and such. The father found a mistress and the family began to slowly fall apart. Nancy, on the other hand, found that living in the clock tower wasn't so bad. An old man, Grandpoppy, took care of Nancy and the clock tower. Grandpoppy affectionately called Nancy, Ann and the name stuck to her. Grandpoppy was slowly dying and he instructed Ann to leave the clock tower. When Ann turned 13, Grandpoppy died. She did what she was told and left the clock tower.
