Fantasy A War in the West [LORE]

H I S T O R Y

The history of Vodenfell is long and bloody, with the continent rarely ever being at peace (especially nowadays). Keep in mind that the following information will be condensed (yes, THIS is condensed,) to keep it easy to remember, as nobody likes a large infodump. More and more will be revealed as the RP progresses.
Known history is split into three main eras; The Elden Era, The United Era, and The New Era.

The Elden Era, ranging from 2,000 to 500BFUV (Before the Fall of United Volenfell), saw a time of great change. Ever since Vodenfell had been created by the "gods" (if there are any), elves and Dvergii and orcs ruled the west. The First Empire, founded by the elves in southern Theokos, stretched across the entire southern half of the continent; Caldia and Sachev remained untouched in these times. Not much is known about their culture, but the elves were highly magical and were said to have tamed dragons. The orcs lived in tribes in Caldia and Sachev, and the Dvergii ruled a thriving yet primitive kingdom across the Yukavian Mountains. All was well for the nonhumans...
...until mankind arrived.
In 1,200BFUV, the first tribes of mankind began coming west from the mysterious lands of the east, destroying much in their path and forming their own kingdoms. The dwarves were slaughtered and the survivors retreated deep into their underground systems, where they could not be bothered, the orcs fled to the far norths and became extremely bitter towards humankind, and the First Empire fell within a few years, the elves spreading across Vodenfell or retreating to the Yukavian Mountains.
By 500BFUV mankind had formed new kingdoms and princedoms, as well as the opportunity to technologically advanced, frequently infighting and forming thousands of noble lineages that survive to this day.

The United Era officially began in 499 BFUV, but the buildup had been going on for a decade. A mysterious man known as Tyros I Jurguin united all of Theokos under one banner, and declared himself the rightful Emperor of Vodenfell. He fought a series of bloody wars against the ancient Kingdom of Miven, the tribes of Sachev, and the Sultanate of Azhar, forming the Vodenfellian Empire, more commonly known as the Second Empire. Under Tyros's bloodline, 500 years of relative peace, with a few large rebellions and times of uncertain succession, saw Vodenfell become economically prosperous. Instead of forcing religion and culture on his subjects, Tyros let the nobles and peasants keep their customs so long as they paid their taxes, and he grew very popular thanks to this policy. However, it was infamously cruel towards elves and orcs and Dvergii, giving them no opportunities to regain what they had lost centuries ago, in fear of these elder races one day rebelling.

The New Era saw this prosperity ended. In the infamous period known as the Black Year (0AUV), the Jurguin bloodline went extinct after a devastating plague. With no clear heir to the imperial throne, many military governors and aristocrats seized land for themselves, causing the Empire to collapse and for hundreds of wars to break out. In 150AUV, due to the Caldian peasantry having been constantly abused by their feudal overlords, the peasants revolted and took back their homeland, forming the Order of Caldia, a somewhat democratic nation where the people elect a Grandmaster amongst the military officials, giving little power to the nobility. In Sachev, a man known as Tsar Vakev the Great conquered all the tribes and united them, slaughtering the Theokolan governors and violently pushing their kind out of the motherland, forming the Tsardom of Sachev. In 251AUV, the independent realms of Miven had slowly begun to blob into three major kingdoms, but King Atenas the Conquerer crushed them in numerous strategic defeats, forming the Kingdom of Miven. Sultan Yashrib the Cruel, a conquerer from the western lands, brought a religion worshipping the deity Batu, and with thousands of religious fanatics at his back, lead a series of holy wars across Azhar, uniting the pagan people and converting them to "the true faith." Known for his extreme prejudice and hatred towards nonbelievers, underneath him many heathens were tortured and burnt, making him both a legendary figure and one of the vilest rulers in history.

Wars broke out once in a while from all these nations, but by far the most troubling were the Theokolans. Being the last of the Jurguin bloodline, the imperial royalty has always been trying to reclaim land lost, many of their Emperors dreaming of re-uniting Vodenfell, just as their predecessors did, but for the last 1,100 years sadly haven't been making any progress. Many consider the Theokolans to be the last ember of a long gone fire, that will never ignite again.

R A C E S

HUMANS are by far the most numerous of the races, making up 90% of the population. Adaptive, willful, and culturally diverse, mankind makes up a lot of the ruling class and are magically the weakest, having no inborn potential, but make up for it magical resilience, having no specific weaknesses.

ELVES are the second strongest race, and the most magically powerful. Pale skin, pointy ears, and abnormally long hair, especially for boys, are common features of their race. Thanks to their inborn potential of magic they easily grasp magic and are linked to nature, but only a few of them actually revere it and have no problem with killing animals or chopping down trees. They have a strong weakness towards iron as it burns them, the creation of dwarves and man, so they have historically used bronze in weapons. A few elves have found themselves wiggling through the Theokolan nobility as of late, and may one day reach the high classes of society
.
DVERGII, also known as Dwarves, are the most technologically advanced and possibly the oldest of the races. Originating in the Yukavian Mountains, they share many physical features with humans, but the most notable differences are growing no taller than 5 feet (and even 5 feet is rare), and having unusually sturdy bodies despite their short statures. Often racially referred to as "bearded children", they are the inventors of crossbows, ballistas, steam power, and most recently proto-trains which they use to navigate the mountains, combining magic with tech; not enchanting, but rather fueling their technology with magic.

ORCS are the weakest of the races, but physically the most dominant, they grow up to 7 feet, and are generally grey-skinned, flat-nosed, with strong teeth, with the strongest of them being green. Often mistaken for being inherently stupid, the orcs are close to humans in intelligence; they just have no need for it, nor do they have the resources to put it into use. Brutish, practical, yet resilient, they have survived years of prejudice and slavery. Often vilified by the Caldians and Sachevi, whose land they inhabit in the far northern coasts, orcs are not inherently evil, but often raid and pillage villages to sustain themselves. Orcs are quite capable at magic but very few may take it up, preferring to stick an axe in someone's skull than to go through study.
