Name: Gunnar Blacklash
Role: Bounty Hunter. Well, more of a bounty hunter who hunts bounties on hunters whose bounties are hunted by other hunters.
In other words, a justified hitman with a slightly more developed conscience than he'd like.
Age: 26
Appearance:
This is his dog, Gengiz
Weapon: Gunnar is skilled in survival tactics and ranged combat of all kinds. On his person, he carries a musket, two flintlock pistols,
a bayonet, a pair of brass knuckles, and lots of gunpowder and ammunition. All weapons, with the exception of the musket, can be
concealed under his boot-length cloak-like outer apparel. Blacklash also carries multiple hunting knives with him along with a small,
utilliary hand axe. While classified as weapons, they are more for utiliary purposes than anything else.
Biography: Ever since a young age, Gunnar's always been a fighter. Some kid wanted to snag some lunch money? Hell no. Blacklash
would find that motherfucker and beat him down. But Gunnar wouldn't hold onto the spoils,, he'd find the person who was wronged and
give them what they had lost. He was always quiet about what he did, and never bragged or looked for any credit. Soon the bullies
traveled in packs to stay away from him. Gunnar made alot of enemies this way, but alot of friends as well. This is something that carried
into his later years as well.
The kid spent alot of time outdoors, sometimes weeks on end. Midway was surrounded by plains and grasslands, and young Gunnar
had some antique toys (ok, weapons) to play around with. In the summers in his teens, he'd go outside the city limits with nothing more
but a canteen of water and a hunting knife, and only come back once school came into session. He didn't see many betrayed out there,
the ones that were smart stayed away from the city. As a matter of fact, he only came across one, and that'll be mentioned later.
His career was only helped by the first time he brought one of the betrayed in. Blacklash was sixteen, and spending more and more time
outside the city limits. The adults laughed at him, and the guards swore he'd get himself killed, but he was fine, as always. Anyways,
Gunnar was outside for about two and a half weeks, and checking some of his homemade bear traps. He'd neglected to for some time,
and didn't expect to find anything. However, in a groove between a small creek and a tree was where he'd rigged a trap to drop large rocks
upon unsuspecting prey, Gunnar found something. A humanoid figure with the long ears and tail of a fox. The individual was a large male,
but couldn't have been any older than he was. Blacklash had only seen the betrayed inside the city, and then they were being executed,
so this wasn't any different. The corpse wasn't too heavy, and bringing his catch to the city wasn't too hard. Collecting his bounty from
the wardens office, Gunnar cut off the tail and has carried it with him since.
Blacklash always wanted to be a hunter. Smacking the shit outta people for fun, and getting paid to do it? Why the hell not? Believing in
the older ways, and relying on wit and skill like he always had in his childhood instead of some fancy tech, he donned his musket,
pistols, and trademark long cloaklike attire to go earn himself a living. On one such year of outing, at age seventeen, Gunnar encountered
a wounded, half wolf, half coyote breed kind of dog. It was wounded, and had a makeshift spear sticking out of its back half. His first
instinct was to simply put the animal out of its misery, but when he approached, it didn't react. Gunnar decided to nurse the dog back to
health instead, and after sucessful rehabilitation, the dog took up a steadfast position at his side. Blacklash named the dog Gengiz.
Gunnar Blacklash didn't start questioning what he did untill about age twenty one. For five years, he'd been hunting the betrayed, just
like any other animals. He'd killed and collected countless bounties on all kinds of the vermin, just simply stalking them from a distance
the way a lone coyote lurks in wait for an easy meal. He'd never interacted with the betrayed, just bagged them and tagged them. Gengiz
didn't care much for them either, even aiding in their hunts. But one fateful day, Gengiz sniffed something out, bounding ahead. Reluctantly,
Gunnar followed. He caught up to Gengiz standing over a betrayed woman, half covered in blood and dirt, other half lying in a ditch.
Gengiz panted expectantly, expecting a 'good boy', or a 'nice work Gengiz' like he usually got, but no praise came. Blacklash knelt down
to examine the betrayed woman, and to his suprise, Gengiz had not harmed her. She was this way when Gengiz found her. Blacklash
was even more suprised when the betrayed's eyes fluttered open and she begged for death: "Please... Finish what you started." Gunnar
thought about going along with it, but something tugged at him. Something that tugged at him the same day he'd rescued Gengiz.
Setting his mouth in a grim line, Blacklash picked up the betrayed and began heading back to the city. She was worth more alive
anyways. However, as a look of utter sorrow and defeat came across the betrayed's face, Blacklash turned around. "I'm takin' you back
to your people," he said gruffly.
As the trek continued, he learned that the woman had been chased by hunters with much higher tech than him had run her and her entire
clan into the ground. She was the only one left. Gunnar spent the rest of the summer with her, taking care of her and nursing her back to
health like he had Gengiz. At the end of the summer, he left.
The next time he saw her, five years later and closer to present day, she was stepping up to be hanged in the center of the city. Her eyes
Found his before the floor was pulled from under her. Blacklash pulled his hat low and left the public event. He was glad he'd never
brought one in alive.
Personality: Blacklash would like to come off as gruff, shady, grizzled, and an angry semi-old man who is better left alone, however, this
is not especially the case. He's got some ethical issues, and while he'd rather be able to just shoot people and get some money, that
doesn't always work out to plan either. Why is this? Because Blacklash has a conscience. He's merciful, much against his better
judgement, and it's come back to bite him in the ass countless times. However, he's proven time and time again that he's got more grit
than a whole factorys worth of sandpaper, and that's more than enough to keep him well fed and happy enough. While his past kills and
mistreatment of others can haunt him from time to time, Blacklash tries his best to do what he thinks is right. After all, the only law
outside the main cities limits is dispensed from the barrel of a smoking gun.
But Gunnar, Gunnar Blacklash has a sense of Justice. Integrity. Honor. He's a man worthy of more respect than he recieves.
