Atraxus, homeworld of the ancient Atraxi people perished in the fire of a solar eruption, and the few of her children who escaped the purgatory were scattered among the stars of the central worlds, welcomed by the leaders of the Galactic Congress to settle in small colonies in the hope of rebuilding and building a new world for their descendants.
But the power of the congress was all too fleeting, for the eruption of Atraxus' star brought havoc to the galaxy. And from the chaos, a powerful new conglomerate emerged, the Fan Kian alliance, under the headship of Queen Vall, first regent of the Silarians. The Fan Kian machine turned the ire of the suffering galaxy against the Atraxi and rode a wave of Xenophobia and hateful fear into a coup that overturned the power of the congress, establishing the reign of the Fan Kian Empire over all worlds within the rim.
First there was concentration, the Atraxi colonies were relegated to reservations and ghettos on select worlds. Then the purges began, campaigns of atrocity and murder that drove the Atraxi from the central worlds in a second great eruption of violence. Then came the third great evil, a weapon devised to condemn the Atraxi to the slow death of time. The Genitor Virus, a biologically engineered disease designed to spread to every Atraxi community in the galaxy, killing many, disabling others, and leaving every man and woman of the Atraxi people unable to conceive another generation.
The Empire, confident in its victory, turned it attention to the remaining resistance fighters and insurgents threatening its rule, unaware that on a single forgotten moon, a spark of hope still burned, waiting to emerge.
