Halloween, was easily, one the best days of the year. There was something about it, dressing up as someone else for the night and having no care in the world about it, that drew Klaus to it. To him, Halloween was better than any other holiday โ€” Christmas, Easter, they all seemed inferior. Perhaps the main reason Klaus was so enthralled by the spooky-themed tradition was because it was an excuse, a silly night to dress up. Unlike his side job, which had reason, Klaus could relax his shoulders and pretend to be normal for one night.

Every year since he'd begun living in the city, Klaus could always rely on the mayor's Halloween bash; an open invitation to those who knew the right people, or had the right costume. While Klaus didn't have the best costume, he certainly had a few connection that could get him in. A perk of his job โ€” not his night-time job, of course, but one of his beloved customers, and close friend over the years, had a job working the invite list for the party and had two tickets left over. Well, Klaus always did well when it came to being charming when needed to and earned himself a ticket in. The male wandered down the busy streets in his suit, a toy gun hidden in his store-bought costume holster and the sounds of his black shoes clapping against the concrete pavement. The party wasn't too far from his apartment, his cheeks were attacked by the autumn wind as it brushed past him. He could hear the bass humming through the ground, hazy lights growing stronger as he wandered closer.

The line was long, as it was every year. Faceless citizens were dressed up to the nines, desperate to get in. Klaus noticed different takes on clowns, mythical creatures, and even a few superheroes amongst the crowd. He had noticed a little girl dressed in white, an oversized cape trailing behind her and a toothy grin hiding behind blonde hair. A bitter smile grew on the male's lips, 'Don't meet your hero, kid.' He mused to himself. Without another thought, Klaus headed up the staircase โ€” ignoring the disappointed and annoyed reactions from those who were waiting.

"Wait, why are you letting him in? Who the fuck is he suppose to be anyway?"
"I'm Vincent, from Pulp Fiction, dumbass."

With a swift interaction; Klaus handed his ticket in, thanked the bouncer with a polite smile and headed inside the city hall.

Inside felt like a whole other world. Every corner, from each wall to another, was decorated in expensive Halloween decoration. Golds, oranges and silvers shimmered under the disco lights to the sound of remixed classic Halloween songs. As Klaus stood in the room, the smell of alcohol attacked his nose with force. While Halloween was one of his favourite holidays, as he grew older and his view changed, dealing with a crowd as large as a small city shoved into the room wasn't Klaus' ideal night. But, he wasn't going to complain, not when his friend put himself out on a limb for an extra ticket. A buzz of his phone pulled Klaus away from the awe of the room, a bright notification lighting up his phone.

'Declan: sorry mate, traffic is a fucking mess. might be a while, don't get too drunk on me lmao.'

A loud, exasperated groan left Klaus' lips as he shoved his phone back into his pocket. His eyes scanned around the room, seeing only a sea of unfamiliar faces. He would only have to make best out of the situation, right?

Admittedly, it was rather ironic, considering she now dressed up and was called a monster on the daily. But she wasn't that person tonight; she was Maeve, a hopeful journalist hoping to enjoy herself at the Halloween bash. Maeve didn't have the connections to get an invite, and so she stood in line, the cool breeze causing her skin to prickle and goosebumps to form. A jacket. How did she always forget? It wasn't worth going back to grab anything, or else Maeve would loose her spot in the line and wouldn't even have a chance of getting in before sunrise.

The line crept forward, the shuffling of feet and hushed excitement of people hoping their costumes were good enough to get in. Maeve felt a few judgemental glances thrown her way, her outfit not exactly the epitome of Halloween style โ€” at least in their opinion. Her red cowboy ensemble was stylish as hell, and by the time she'd made it to the front she was proven right.

"And what are you wearing?" A bouncer, she assumed, asked.

"Can't you tell? I'm a wild cowboy hitchhiker." Maeve grinned widely, sticking her thumb up and hand out for dramatic effect. "You at least got to admit, I'm unique."

"One of a kind." he responded, stepping aside and waving her in, "Know you made my night a little less boring."

Maeve nearly skipped in, joy radiating off her glowing skin. She'd come alone, but like hell that'd stop her from having a good night at the first Hallowen bash she'd actually managed to get into. For a moment, she stood, taking everything in. The over-the-top spooky, yet simultaneously cartoon-ish decorations littering the walls, tables and ceilings. The mist leaking in from the edges of the room was a nice touch, though it meant she could hardly see a few feet in front of her. The remixed Halloween songs had an intense base, almost rattling the floor as it pulsed.

She narrowed her eyes, spying a table with drinks and food spread along it. Now that's what she's talking about. Maeve set off towards the table, weaving between people when she thought she heard her name called out from behind her. A quick glance over her shoulder revealed nothing, as she truthfully expected, but continuing to walk whilst she literally wasn't watching where she was going turned out to be a mistake.

Maeve ran straight into someone, and she could already tell was well built and upon looking up, frighteningly tall. Is he already brooding? Sure looks like it. Maeve realised she was staring, right after she'd walked into him, "Shit, I'm so sorry! Great start to the night..." Maeve groaned rubbing her forehead but being sure not to knock her cowboy hat off. Klaus wasn't too mad about his friend not being next to him. Declan, very much so, couldn't control how the traffic was outside. Unlike Klaus, Declan was as human as they come โ€” boyish smile, tired eyes nd the worst sleeping pattern. It was times like these where Klaus wished his friend's shitty habits would come into play and drove him here to be on time. The black-haired male stood by himself, cup of some sort of alcohol in his hand and the black shoelace around his neck beginning to feel like a weak noose. Klaus wasn't even much of a drinker, the bitter taste of alcohol tasted like poison to him, but trying to blend into the crowd felt like a better option rather than politely rejecting offers with each step. Feigning a smile, the male pulled out his phone and saw another text from his missing friend.

'Declan: i know ur grumpy i can feel it from here, but i'm like five minutes away i swear !1!!'

It almost seemed pointless to hold out on being hopeful for Declan. Klaus didn't want to celebrate the night alone, and the thought of partying with a stranger put him off the night, entirely. Five minutes, He promised to himself, taking a deep breath and shoving his phone away. The male's hand slowly began to ache from holding the cup anxiously, gripping it tightly enough to make sure it was visible to everyone in his vicinity. Klaus' eyes studied the room, taking in the costumes of the city. It was clear he didn't went all out with his look, but there's only so much he could afford, and using his shoelace felt like an inventive idea.

The songs blended together as Klaus wandered through the sea of sweaty witches and drunk vampires, giving sheepish smiles at the accidental eye contact from other party-gooers. Fuck you, Declan, Klaus thought to himself. The drink table was nearby, he could simple dump his drink and perhaps wander home, invite Declan to a movie marathon instead to finish Halloween. Caught up in his own internal turmoil, Klaus' sense of direction became a second priority and seeing who was in his path, well, wasn't on his list either.

Saved by his balance, Klaus stumbled a few steps backwards before regaining his composure. His body collided with someone petite in frame, small โ€” which was a broad term, seeming that he stood quite tall, himself โ€” and wearing a costume that left Klaus slightly baffled. "Uh- Sorry about that," Klaus yelled over the pounding music. "Didn't see you there." An awkward, sheepish toy of a smirk grew on his lips. The male paused, taking in the blonde's costume with a focused expression etched into his face. "Excuse me for asking, but what are you suppose to be?"

"If 'didn't see you there' is a comment on my height, I'll have you know I'm perfectly average." she spoke with a playful tone, And you're freakishly tall. Maeve thought, though that would be rude to point out โ€” she was sure he'd already know. Maeve properly glanced up into his eyes, feeling strangely captivated. She could swear that the world sat behind those eyes, but there was also a spark in them her stomach told her she recognised. But where? and how?

Her thoughts were shortly drowned out by the pounding bass and the dark haired male's question. "Admittedly? I just slapped a cowboy hat," she tipped it dramatically as she mentioned it, "onto a funky outfit." Maeve motioned to the rest of her outfit, almost taking a slight bow. The female took a moment to study his outfit, "And what are you? Shoelace man?" Maeve blithely flicked the makeshift piece of clothing around his neck with a single deft finger, her smirk complimented by a raised eyebrow.

Maeve glanced around the packed room, noting that virtually everyone else was either with a group or at least another person, their bodies swaying with the beat. She was acutely aware that this wasn't the type of party where making new friends โ€” despite being something that came to her all too easily โ€” was at the top of the agenda list. People were here to dance the night away with people they already knew. Though this male didn't seem to be with anyone else either.

"Are you here alone too?" She asked, her voice straining and her head tilted slightly as though portraying her confusion. Maeve doubted she was loud enough, as the song currently playing seemed louder than the last. Before getting an answer, she instead grasped his hand, leading him towards the table she'd been approaching before colliding with him. When they arrived, she grabbed a drink and spun on her heels to face him. The music was just as loud, but there was a lower concentration of people and she'd be able to hear him better. "Sorry. Now I can actually hear you. Are you here alone?" [/div] [/div] [div class=bottomRight] [div class=bigImg][/div] [div class=text2] [div class=tag]location[/div]

A dramatic yet playful scoff escaped from Klaus, before he just quietly nodded his head. "Must be me and my height then." He acknowledged.

The funky outfit, the playful smirk on the girl's lips and the flick of his make-shift bolo tie โ€” albeit, he did agree on how sketchy it appeared โ€” had left him stunned. Not in the bad way either, if there was a bad way, but rather the kind that left Klaus in state wanting more, as strange as that sounded in his head. As the thumping of the music only got louder with each change of a song, a matching smirk grew on the male's lip. His costume would've made much more sense with Declan by his side, but his friend wasn't here โ€” Fuck it, just for tonight.

"Absolutely." Klaus chuckled with a smirk, shoving his hands into his pockets. "No one else in here has seem to get it right." He joked. Raising an eyebrow at her question, Klaus simply shrugged and nodded. "Yeah, are you?" He asked, yelling over the music, in return. One white lie couldn't hurt, and it wasn't such a stretch either, Declan wasn't here โ€” physically. Klaus' dark eyes fell on the woman's funky cowboy hat once more, smiling quietly, "You make a gr-"
His words quickly fell short, feeling the woman's arm lunge for his and pulling him out of the sea of dancing drunks, and leading him to somewhere he wasn't quite sure where. But there wasn't a feeling of resent from it, rather, Klaus was happy to follow her without question. Was it a bad idea? possibly. For all he knew, the funky looking cowboy could be some excitable murderer. Perhaps it was also the strange feeling of curiosity that bubbled within that encouraged him to go along. The female's voice sounded โ€” felt โ€” familiar, but Klaus couldn't put the voice to the name.

All in good time, he guessed.

As they wandered to a table, Klaus swiftly placed his drink down without stopping. The smile on Klaus' face never left as the two hid around a table, away from the pounding music and sweaty bodies. The male was quietly grateful for her assertiveness. "Don't apologise," He reassured, "But yeah, I'm alone. Are you?"

It was sort of a last minute idea to come along, I didn't have anything else to do." Well, that wasn't the entire truth. Halloween not only brought rowdy teens and some drunken assaults, but often more dangerous individuals, whom she was the only one capable of stopping. Or at least, it felt that way. The police were incapable, and chose to hunt her more religiously than the people who actively worked to create anarchy or harm others. Her eyes glazed over as she remained deep in thoughtโ€”brood, more accuratelyโ€”about the people she was letting down, and the difficulty in continuing when she wasn't appreciated. Only a short moment had passed before Maeve caught herself, physically shaking away the thought before refocusing on the male in front of her. Hopefully he didn't notice. She knew he did, though. But she could hope.

A sheepish grin crept on her face when she realised she'd dragged him around and they weren't even properly acquainted. "I'm Maeve, by the way."

Maeve found herself shuffling closer to the tall male to be able to hear him better as their conversation continued, considering the bass of the music felt louder and louder with each passing song. Even as someone who loved to strike up conversation and learn about others, there was something about his demeanour that was magnetic to her. She just wanted to understand how his brain ticked, so similar yet different to hers. The pair never returned to the dance floor, sinking further towards the edges of the room, and Maeve absentmindedly sipping away. She hadn't been keeping count of her drinks, but noticed her cup empty again.

"I'm going to get some more," she motioned to her cup with a single pointer finger, a slight slur to her words, before striding over to the table. Well, if slightly tipsy walking can be considered striding. Her refill was swift, and she snatched an unknown fried object from a plateโ€”she hoped it was a chicken nuggetโ€”with an all-too-happy, childish grin shining on her face.

Maeve turned with her hands full, and began moving back, before her foot caught on nothing. The clumsiness and alcohol meant she wasn't going to catch herself before falling face first on the floor. The fried food item in her hand went flying, and her tightened grip on her cup meant some of the alcohol splashed out on the wooden floors. All Maeve could manage was her eyes widening in realisation.

It almost humorous at the amount of police and security were at the party. It was a terrible habit of his, but his brown hues covertly studied the area, counting the ear pieces that slid behind each guard's ear and all the solemn faces that stood at each door. Klaus wasn't planning to cause havoc; Halloween was his night off and he was going to enjoy it, embrace the momentarily feeling of being average, of being human It was a rare moment when the male could act his own age, to be care-free and be blissfully ignorant for a night.

Truthfully, Klaus didn't expect to be dragged around by a tiny, homeless cowboy but the male didn't complain. His counting was interrupted, stopping at eight when the blonde's voice clouded his mind like a moody, rainy dayโ€” his favourite kind of day, with the simple mention of her name. A grin broke out on his lips, hands falling into his pockets. "I'm Klaus." He responded, the smile on his lips almost reflective of hers. Time seem to become relative around the infectious woman, slipping away like grains of sand through his grasp and he couldn't care less. His gaze flickered between her empty cup and the toothy smile. Klaus gave a nod and a smile, "Take your time, I'll wait here." He replied, watching her disappear like a mouse into a field of people. God, she really was short.

A moment to himself, Klaus took the time to reply back to Declan. A short message and his phone was back in his pocket, fingers idly drumming against the high table surface waiting for Maeve to return. Instead of counting, Klaus' eyes scanned for Maeve โ€” searching for her giddy smile to appear from the sea of party-goers. Was it terrible of him to feel like he was ditched? Klaus slowly left their table, heading into the crowd himself. It didn't take long to find himself near the buffet table, his sight suffering through the small gaps of moving bodies. Time almost slowed down as he watched Maeve stumble. A faltering moment in thinking, but with a discreet flick of his hand, Klaus focused on a chair nearby and dragged it closer from afar. That was the beauty of the modern world, there was always a tiny bit of metal in everything โ€” a wonderful factor for his curious ability.

Without a second thought, Klaus swiftly moved towards Maeve, furrowed eyebrows and a concerned look upon his face. "Hey, you alright?" He asked, bending down to help her up. He should've noticed the signs earlier, perhaps Maeve had passed the 'one too many' drinks stage โ€” uncertainty filled him, especially since he'd only met her tonight, but it was better to be safe than sorry. "Maybe it's time to call it a night?" Klaus suggested, a gentle tone intertwined with his voice.
