Question, during this RP did you ever have trouble with nobody completing their objective in the time limit? I'm running an RP in a format that sounds fairly close to yours and I'm scared of that happening.
Coming from a background of D&D this is just how I like to play, it feels like the "Right" way to GM. (Though there really is no right way obviously). It helps the players think of you as a completely neutral arbiter. Plus it just doesn't feel satisfying to me to play as a DMPC, because it's...
But there are better ways to go about it, IMO abilities weaknesses should be more organic. Superman has heat vision, it doesn't do 100dps for 20 seconds with a 60 second cooldown, he cuts through things with his laser eyes, it's either on or off, and it's really cool, and the tradeoff is in the...
When people try to balance their characters abilities (magical or not) the same way you would a video game ability. I always cringe a little inside whenever I see an ability with a cooldown time, or "it only works X times a day", it just kind of breaks the immersion for me and feels like a kind...
Exactly, Bio is one of those things you kinda need to know as a GM to make sure it actually makes a lick of sense.
"Wait.. no, this area of the map is literally irradiated with magic, you can't have lived a cushy noble life there it's a wasteland!"
The one problem that comes with allowing players to explain their history IC Is you'll get lots of fiat "oh my char can suddenly do this because he was taught how to in the past how convenient!". In my CSes all fields are mandatory but they don't need to be posted publicly. As long as I see your...
Favourite thing? Abilities, as someone interested in game design I always love seeing creative abilities.
Least favorite is personality, it feels like you're forced you play as whatever it is you've written and make players scared to show personality growth.
Aww, I appreciate the gesture unfortunately I'm a little tied up atm with work, school and co-GMing (also IRL DMing, busy busy~). If you'd like though I'm planning a group RP about a lovely band of heisters taking on the world in a steampunky setting. I can tag you in that if I get it up and...
Highlighting should work on tablet and smart phone, at least it does on my Samsung I'm not sure about others. Try pressing and holding your finger over a line of text and you should highlight it and get these little nubs that you can place at the start and end of what you wanna highlight...
Just a little tip, highlighting the text generally helps a lot, and if the font is too small you can always copy and paste it into a word document and play around with it yourself.
Ho boy do I have an experience to share with you guys. Before I came here I held a single 1x1 RP over Skype, a friend from a forum I won't name because it's embarrassing.
Anyways, the RP started off pretty great tbh. Our characters met and had some great chemist, my introverted inventor, his...
It was honestly just stressful, it felt like I was fighting him with every post instead of just collaborating to make an interesting story. Part of me was glad when he just stopped replying.
I can understand that, I really can, but at the same time he really had no hand in writing the story in the first place...
And not because I wouldn't let him, he just didn't really have any input, so I just kind of took over because otherwise a story wouldn't happen... I didn't really mind...
